After the whole fiasco with them bugging out their customer support tickets to users for Fallout, you want me to use your launcher? Yeah, no thanks.
For sure. 28 November 2018 was what, like a decade or something? They really need to step it up.
Will that prevent Bethesda from using their own launcher? Because that's the issue here.

I was really looking forward to this game, shame. I guess I'll be forced to get that FarCry New Dawn instead; Bethesda, what a bunch of goobers.
Yeah I believe so, I remember installed a launcher to play Fallout 76.
Windows store sucks, but I can't fathom deciding never to play what could be an amazing game just because it's exclusive to that platform.
The mindset I'm seeing here seems to go hand-in-hand with the pretty passionate and angry posts in the Epic Games Launcher thread.
I've never been attached like that to any specific launcher or platform - I'll download whatever the fuck I need to that allows me to play the game and anything beyond that is pretty odd to me. I can see that this mindset is a bit of an outlier. I had never really thought of Steam as anything else other than the platform that has the games I want to play.
It's not patently false and we both have no real objective statistics about how much people care about software client features. Steam has obviously been growing the past 5 years and so has every other software client that has launched since then. That's indicative of PC gaming itself getting bigger and bigger.
What has told us and will further tell us how much features really matter is how games on the other AAA publisher software clients will fare that have factually less features. And going by Blizzard, Epic, Origin, Rockstar and even Ubisoft this hasn't been a problem for them at all.
Haha! No, that's not why it happened. Back then they didn't have the resources nor the aspirations. Since then they've become a big publisher. Back then they needed an anti-piracy solution (their words, not mine) and Steam provided that. Now they can provide that themselves and turn a bigger profit thanks to cutting Steam's 30% out of the equation. It's never been about going where the customers are, it's been about profits. The customers will go where the games are, unless of course they feel weirdly loyal to a store like Steam and refuse to load their games from anywhere else. That's a tiny minority with some odd issues though...
There is nothing wrong with your mindset. I'm just not willing to put up with a variety of bad launchers to play games.
They'll pull this shit and wonder why the PC sales numbers are even worse than expectations. I give up.

Went from a, "maybe I'll buy it," to an, "eh I'll probably pass." Bethesda's launcher is trash and I'm not sure I'd trust them with my info right now anyway.
Oh man, Rage 2 looks like all the things I wanted improved and changed from the original, too.
It's a hassle to deal with multiple stores and game libraries. Would have preferred it on Steam.
Oh well, hope they at least have good discounts in the future and will continue putting their games in bundles.

It's incredible how this game is jumped from "my best E3 game" to "damn the gameplay looks as bas as Rage1 but maybe..." to "yeah, no way I'm gonna buy full price on Epic store, bye!".

well bethesda's handling of the 76 stuff hasn't been good.
then it turned out, Farcry was making a direct competitor to Rage.
then it turned out, Obsidian was potentially redefining what a RPG is again.
also the lack of story information, on rage, instead they just went its a madmax themepark style on the adverts. =/
this isn't happening under ANY circumstance and in no way is this good for the consumer.

Same. Not that I think Doom will be a bad game though. But this made my Doom into a maybe for me. And I freaking loved the first reboot.
I was going to get this on PC, guess not anymore. Not getting all of these damn launchers. Ridiculous..
I get the feeling this game is going to tank on all platforms, this is basically the nail in the coffin for the PC version seeing any success

Poor Avalanche. They go from a (seemingly) rushed December release the same year as Smash to the publisher destroying all sales potential on PC. They can't catch a break from publishers.

You can add non steam games to steam, which allows you to use the steam overlay and even the steam FPS counter if you want. It sucks the game isn't coming to steam but as someone who already has Battlenet, Uplay, Origin, Epic Launcher, Steam, MS Store, Discord, etc on my computer the Bethesda Launcher doesn't deter me from buying games I want.
It's disappointing for sure, I absolutely can see a not-too-distant future where all the AAA games that would usually be on Steam being moved off it to their own storefronts. So far, Ubisoft have done it the best way by allowing their games on Steam and launching through Uplay that way (although, that double-DRM element could easily be seen as a negative in a sense, too).
More like they're doing what they always do, seeking a quick path to growth that may or may not pay off in the long run.
I doubt they have any enmity towards Steam/Valve, who made them a lot of money by providing all the infrastructure in exchange for that 30% cut.
Steam was initially the path to increased sales on PC compared to retail or releasing some kind of barebones DRM/cdkey solution. Now many big devs are on to the next thing that gets them new revenue (intuitively from their perspective, at least). We'll see if the sales follow.
My guess is it turns out like Origin. The big BGS games will do fine and probably make more money due to the increased per-sale margin. And the releases that are less of a sure thing will be nearly invisible shortly after release.
