I don't know why but it's always funny reading the immense disgust people seem to have with anyone who orders a steak this way because I can't think of another food item that this applies to. Is there anything else? I was thinking something like pineapple pizza but the people who like / dislike that seem a bit more evenly split. At the very least there are more vocal people on both sides of that whereas there isn't a vocal "well-done steak advocacy" group. And I guess ingredient or preparation or whatever choices are fine but I'm not talking about just "eating x vs. not eating x".

Are people who order well-done steaks an oppressed group? Is it woke to order well-done steaks in support of them?

I prefer steak well done. I'll take it with a little pink, if I have to, but I prefer well done. My dad likes his steak almost bleeding. I couldn't eat it like that.

edit: Sorry, early morning here so I was not capable to read all the text.

The well-done steak is hard to top, the only thing I can think of is if you choose not to remove the pickled cucumber on the cheeseburger from McDonalds. Maybe that was just a typical thing from where I grew up, but if you didn't remove people went crazy.

People who bitch about people's food preferences annoy the fuck out of me. Hate to break it to you, but not everyone can actually EAT certain foods the way you cook them, and I'm physically incapable of eating certain textures or mixtures. This doesn't just about well done steaks, either, and it doesn't have to do with "culinary experience".

Rare steak is cooked... as long as the internal temp is at least ~130 you're good.

I can understand why people might fuss over people eating well-done steaks, but really if you like it that way then go nuts.
Be aware that restaurants will give you the lowest quality steak they got though.
This is just a food item not a choice.
Depends if you choose to eat it.
I'd also add shark fins to the list.

Look, if you like steak well done, that's your decision. Whatever cranks your tractor.

Just don't make your whole family eat it cooked to that level just because you like it that way.

Otherwise you might have a child who grows up thinking steak is disgusting shoe leather only to grow up, realize what medium rare tastes like and wonder what they did to deserve all those years of chewing and chewing and chewing and chewing only to give up and spit out a half-masticated grey wad into a napkin.

Purely random example that has nothing to do with me

There should not be. Anyone eating a well done steak deserves to eat the nastiest piece of meat possible.

Go to the store buy the cheapest piece of steak you can get and then Grill it to death and save yourself some money ya fuckin sicko.

Might as well just go to McDonalds.

Any steak cooked above medium is trash, and even medium is pushing it.

Probably not, but my pet peeve is someone saying they don't like seafood. There are so many flavours and textures in seafood that the notion baffles me (this coming from someone who isn't particularly fond of any kind of cured salmon, but it doesn't diminish my enjoyment of other forms of seafood). It's like saying you don't like vegetables.

I try not to be a knob about it though, so my reaction just tends to be a shrug.

Mmm... lots of food I wouldn't order, but the only ones I would judge people on are endangered species of fish. Really don't know why those aren't banned.

Ketchup in Chili, but the dirty secret is that people actually like it. I added spicy ketchup to a chili that I submitted into a corporate chili cook off and I won second place. There was nothing unique or remarkable about the chili except the ketchup.

People hate on well done steaks because they say it's dry. Which it can be, if you cook it wrong.

If you know how to cook a steak, you can have it well done and still tender and juicy.

To be honest, you like what you like. As long as it's not causing any actual harm, it... really shouldn't matter.

As for the topic at hand, in terms of preference for Steak, I think Well-done is a bit much, since it can be really rubbery at that point and tough. But I don't like it medium rare, either. Something inbetween that and Medium is usually pretty good for me.

Honestly, what used to gross me out (and still does) is when my mother prepares meatballs or meatloaf, occasionally she's eat it raw while prepping it. I'm amazed she hasn't ever gotten sick from that, if I can be honest.

EDIT:

Honestly, I'd love for a guide if you know how to, because neither my mom or I when we've made our steaks have had luck in this area (and we've usually cooked it to well done more so on accident than anything).

You can't just toss it on a grill or in a pan and expect to be super tender. I mean, you can do it and still have it soft, but you run the risk of having it dry out too much.

People generally fail there because they cook it all the way and then when they let it rest, dries out. You gotta cook it close enough, and then when it rests, it'll cook itself properly and still have juices.

But the real secret is marinades and foil. Let it soak in a flavor bath, toss it in a pan or on a grill to get those nice lines that everyone likes, then wrap it in foil and toss it in the oven. I mean, you can toss it on a grill at that point too, but the marinade will keep it from drying out as you cook it since you're trapping it in a juice sauna.
