Gears4, Forza 7, AC Origins, Ratchet and Clank, Battlefront 2, GT sport.

I'm still dialing in all the settings.. I realised after reading more of the thread that I have my OLED light and contrast way too high for SDR, very worried about burn-in...
I was using default game mode for HDR with dynamic contrast set to low and colour temp of C45 the only changes. I did go through each game and set the in game HDR settings if they were available.

Wanted to ask fellow LG OLED owners about presets.. maybe I'm over thinking this but this is what Im thinking of with regards to configuring presets.

Game HDR
Game SDR

Your color temp is way too cool. Should be at least Warm 20, although some suggest Warm 50. Default game mode without any tinkering is bad looking. I'm assuming you also enabled 'Ultra Deep Color' for HDR on each HDMI input as well?

Looking at Square Trade 3 year extended warranty coverage for my OLED. Would give me 4 years coverage and my CC gives me 2 on top of extended warranty. $90 for 5 additional years above standard warranty coverage. Not bad. I called Square Trade and the guy said it covers burn-in, but it's just some dude on a phone so who knows for sure.

Whoa whoa, credit card warranty goes on top of extended?? What do you have?

So it appears that after only having it for three or four days, my LG B7A already has some minor burn-in. Somehow, in the top right corner of my screen, there is now a quarter of a circle burned in. I've run multiple Pixel Refresher cycles and it's still there. The frustrating thing is that I've not watched any content that could've left such a shape in that part of the screen, so I'm very confused.

Haven't used those cables personally, but they should be. I've been using some cheap $5 Amazon Basics cables from last year before the "Certified Premium" labels started appearing. As long as they have that, they are considered up to spec, but that only means if the cable isn't faulty, they will work for your 18Gbs needs. Depending on the shipping, you might find a better deal on Amazon though. Monoprice has cables for cheap, but often if you aren't buying in bulk they cost more from their obscene shipping.

No games either? Because that sounds like part of a minimap, unless you literally meant a quarter circle, sides and all. And this was a brand new TV, not a floor model?

edit: wasn't considering the TV menu. Shouldn't have left any actual burn-in from just navigating that. If it did, that's one borked set.

Their terms have burn in listed under what they don't cover: "Television or personal computer monitor screen imperfections, including "burn-in" or burned CRT phosphor."

Is it from staying in the menu for too long? Don't they make lil circles in the right side? Try just watching stuff instead of doing the pixel refresher. Might go away after that. So far mine is fine on the second day. Guess we'll see what happens.

I can't find or think of anything that would have caused this shape. I just retraced my steps from the last few days, looking at every piece of content I've viewed on this TV for more than a minute and I've found nothing. Here's what it looks like by the way:

I have the x900e and notice slight grainy texture when watching 1080p content. 4k looks crisp. I am using the rtings settings. Anything I can do about this?

I wonder if it's a different issue than standard burn-in/image retention since you can't place how it could get there and the pixel refresher isn't working

Idk

Is there any precedent for panels coming with elements "burned-in" like this? If I can't scrub it out with varied content and consistent pixel refresher cycles, I'm contemplating replacing it, but that sounds like a nightmare, having to box everything up and return it all to Best Buy. Does anyone know if Best Buy will come to your home with a replacement set and let you do the replacement there? I've got a 5-year extended warranty with them for the set.

Not sure, you can call and ask how replacements work. It would make sense if they delivered a replacement and took away the old one for you. Def replace it if it's really bothering you.

It could be burn in, I'm just thinking that would be really unusual/early at this point coupled with no content you watched having that shape there. That's why I suspect it's possibly a separate issue.

Regarding you BB question, a few years ago we had the warranty on a dishwasher and they came out to replace it. I suspect they will come to you to replace your TV

So I believe folks in this thread have stated the BB extended warranty covers burn-in. I presume you need to purchase the TV in their store and they don't just sell the extended warranty separately for a TV purchased from another retailer. Is that correct?

Edit: Yeah looking at their site it doesn't look like I can buy their coverage without buying the TV from them. Was worth a look. :)

Some weird circle in my B7, pretty sure it's just temporary but quite interesting nevertheless as I'm not sure where it came from. Was checking the gray slides for any banding and noticed it:
4FQoTqq.png

At first I thought it was from Mario but the HP is not connected to the corners like that, seems like part of some sort of circle though. I've had the TV for month and under 100 hours of usage, and it's not visible at all in any content I've watched so not worried but just interesting, could it be something else than IR?

Is that circle IR only visible when people check gray scale? Is it something else? Can they see it when viewing other content.?

So ended up getting a good deal for the C7. TV looks good but I'm not blown away, have only watched Strager things on the netflix app though.

Is there a good link for how to set up the TV properly? Found a few online but not sure what to use.
Also how do I know if my HDMI cables are good enough?

I kind of noticed 1080p looking more grainy or something at first, but I think it was just because this TV is so much brighter and contrast higher than my last, so I am now seeing details that went unnoticed. I also think it's just from directly comparing to a razor sharp 4K image.

I gotta say that the last half-dozen pages really have me relieved I didn't go for the OLED just yet. Having to rename inputs and tinker with settings (some of which seem to be broken) just to get things working as expected shouldn't be necessary.

Are you watching Stranger Things in 4K / HDR (S1 doesn't have HDR though) ?
Though that probably isn't the best showcase anyhow. Just make sure you have the right Netflix plan.

I think so. I do have the right plan and the dolby vision logo came up. Like it looks really good but i remember the one they videos on the store were extra good.

I guess I need to get a nice 4k UHD bluray and a one x now.

Yea, I got the pop up that in order to watch Netflix with 4K, I need to give them extra $4/month. I'll do that after I catch up on my Blu-rays first. Regular Netflix looks alright on it.

This looks like a defect, although I don't know what would have caused it to spontaneously appear after a few days.

Yep HDR is definitely engaging. I wondered about the Color temp I couldn't seem to adjust it beyond a limited range under all settings->picture mode->advanced controls?

Is there a manual for the tv somewhere? All I could find was a HTML manual which seems quite basic.

It's not burn in, it's a panel defect. My first unit had thesame issuestraight out of the box. Always seems to be in the top right corner. Conspiracy conjecture, I think they're probably trying to pass off B-Grade panels hoping people don't notice stuff like this since they've been dropping prices.

You should definitely get it replaced, that's a defect for sure.

Hey!
That's exactly the same I have!

EDIT: I'll add, it's not from anything you've watched. I've been super careful with mine and it's permanent I think, good thing it doesn't show up on 99.9% content so I'm personally fine with it as that's the only flaw in my panel otherwise, got pretty good gray uniformity etc.
Elsewhere someone mentioned that it could possibly the glue between panel and glass coming off at the top, or just some weird uniform issue there, I have no clue. Let me know how it goes if you pursue it with LG.

Did LG do exchange without any issues?

So I have a PS4 Pro and XB1X now and I'm looking to get a 4K HDR TV. My room for gaming isn't really suited for anything more than 40-43 inches, input lag is also important to me. Am I still best off getting the Samsung in the first post?

*Edit also the room in question is rather dark with low lighting and no sunlight.

Might get more replies later, but I asked elsewhere also and was given a similar response. They said that it was uncured adhesive that sticks the panel to the backing, which was basically the problem I specifically asked about.

Not sure I'd let that slide. Literally.

Why on earth would you pay a fortune for a TV and keep it with a defect like that?

Yeah, guess I'll try with LG see if I can get better panel just the thought of getting one with worse banding is what's keeping me off currently.

Alright thanks for the insight everyone. I'm going to give Best Buy a call today and see about getting it replaced. Here's to hoping the panel I get in exchange isn't full of vertical banding issues.

I have Sony X900E tv (or actually the XE9005 model, which is the European version.

I get SD/HD Tv signal over HDMI 2 and no other source of importance right now. No consoles, so no important game video modes to tinker with either. I do use Netflix/Twitch/Kodi/Youtube as it's a Smart TV, which is often HD and sometimes 4K(+HDR). However, as these apps are of the Smart TV and thus the source is not HDMI. How do I need to configure my video modes?

I am using Cinema Pro for TV and internal apps, whereas the tv automatically makes some switches when it detects HDR content (Netflix). Is this the right way to set this up?

I have an Nvidia Shield that I can use, but I've read that the Shield can only output on one resolution but actually serves up all kinds of HD, 4K and HDR content and that down/upscaling is best left to the TV, not the Shield. So I opted out of the Shield and went with the SmartTV apps, but I can switch back if need be.

Any Sony tv owners have some advice?

I haven't done the grayscale thing and I'm worried if it's a dirty panel or have issues like the one posted above. So far the PQ has been excellent with no weird issues. Guess I'll check that YouTube video tonight and see how my panel looks. Crossing my fingers that there are no issues.

I still don't get the 8K thing beyond marketing to the "gottahaveit" tech crowd. Even with a 65" 4K set, I'm using the outer boundary of some of the "recommend seating guidelines" in order to see the difference.

With 8K, what is it, we are going to have to have 100" sets and sit 3 feet from them?

What am I missing?

EDIT: And that's not even getting into the whole "where's the 4K content vs. 8K content piece."

Now that you mentioned it, I notice the bands on panning or when the xtreme Black is on....same with yours?
Haha, sorry I mentioned it! Mine is a 2014, so I don't have xtreme black, I'm not sure what that is, I think on mine it's just called black level, which I turn off (I turn off basically anything but the active zones).

The banding mostly happens on vertical pans, when the zones have trouble keeping up. My wife doesn't notice it (and neither do most people), until I point it out. Sometimes I have being hyper aware of picture quality! Or are you referring to color banding? That's probably being caused by the xtreme black setting, if I had to guess. My set has no color banding.

I feel like it's a trade off for picture quality based on what bugs you. I hate, hate, hate, any cloudy spots in black scenes. I'll happly trade a few times noticing the zones work for having perfect blacks.

I agree with this comment:
"8K won't be mainstream or mass produced for years yet. These displays at CES 2018 will be "look what we can do" prototypes."

But I am more interested in this "true LED TVs where each pixel is made out of light emitting diodes – no LCD panel required."
It looks like that Sony and Samsung will showcase this tech at CES 2018.

Not true. You can get IR and burn-in on an LED.

Well, the chance of having that on an LED must be quite a lot smaller than on an OLED.

Still, people seem to act like those are widespread problems on OLED (a la Red Ring of Deah), but plenty of people here didn't have any problems and don't have to babysit their set. But LG definitely should adknowledge the issue and garanty it with their warranty imo.

If CES 2018 ends up being the year of "Look at all of these zany 8K TV sets!", I feel like it might really spook a lot of people off from getting a 4K set. "Why buy a 4K TV with 8K right around the corner?". Never mind how absurd the diminishing returns for 8K are, it's kind of a bad look if it ends up going that way in a month.
