DS2 progress: I had my first invasion today; I got him down to 25% HP but then I got too aggressive and made a couple dumb exchanges and died. I've really enjoyed exploring the Lost Bastille. As an area it looks kinda bland (the usual crumbling ruins and such), but it has a lot of hidden stuff to find, which is fun. I made it to the 1st fog door and put down my white soapstone and got summoned to help someone fight the Ruin Sentinels. I like doing that because it gives me a risk-free way to have my 1st encounter with a boss. We won and then I returned to my world and killed the Ruin Sentinels myself. On a trip back to Majula to cash in some souls, I bought the Silvercat Ring and jumped down the pit to the Grave of Saints. I made it to the bonfire right before the fog door and left, wanting to get back to the Lost Bastille. There I made it to the jail where I freed the petrified Straid and bought some boss weapons, and then I ran to the 2nd fog door where I ended my session.

Nice. The Bastille is a great level. Tons of hidden nooks and crannies and it's just really well-designed overall, and the bosses are cool.

So after doing a few Dungeon Chalices I started The Old Hunters DLC in Bloodbourne (this is the first DLC I ever bought, I despise DLC but I love Bloodborne so figured what the hell) and I gotta say, I'm am blown away so far, just finished..

Ludwig. What a great fight with a nice "holy shit" moment when he took out the Moonsword. It was pretty tragic seeing what became of one of the greatest hunters. Fight wasn't too bad, but damn did I feel for what he turned into.

Can't wait to dive back in and see what else is coming for me. Gotta say this DLC is pretty damn amazing so far. Love the look and feel of the place. Also the weapons... that Hacksaw.

Yeah, Old Hunters is fantastic. The area that you're up to next is my favourite in the entire game. It's so so good lol.

I just went through the Frigid Outskirts...I think I need to go lie down now.

Hey here's something funny! I learned during the Lud and Zallen fight that you can just chug Estus by panic-mashing the heal button. Hahahaha...

I'm of two minds about Dark Souls II. I love a lot of it, but some of the biggest parts of what makes Souls games so wonderful- it really lacks. Level design and enemy placement come across as a huge step backward from DS1.

I can't say much about DS3 because I just started it, LOVING IT as usual.

Yeah the world design in Dark Souls 2 is pretty non-existent. It flows more like a linear path than a winding web like every other games. I will give Dark Souls 2 credit that the gameplay (sans AGI) is a huge step up. Granted I only have experience with SotFS, but I thought everything but the world design was an improvement over DS1.

DS3 is my favorite of the series. (Sans Bloodborne) You'll love it.

This is the greatest DS2 video:

Nice. The Bastille is a great level. Tons of hidden nooks and crannies and it's just really well-designed overall, and the bosses are cool.

Yeah I really enjoyed it. I spent a lot of time there before finally moving on to Sinner's Rise and killing Lost Sinner. But now I'm looking at the wiki and I apparently missed an entire area (Belfry Luna)! Wtf.

I had no idea where to go after Sinner's Rise, so I decided to check out that new path Licia opened up in between Majula and Heide's Tower of Flame. (Looking at the wiki, it turns out that's exactly where I was supposed to go, so yay.)

Huntsman's Copse has been fun too. It has tougher enemies than Lost Bastille for sure, and is generally more treacherous. I was wrong yesterday when I said I had my first invasion. I realized The Forlorn was a dark spirit when he invaded me again in Huntsman's Copse. However, after that I did get my first invader, who I killed with my Grand Lance. After doing a lot of exploring I killed the spooky skeleton bosses and lit the bonfire at the entrance of Harvest Valley, before turning back and heading to Undead Purgatory, where I got killed by the fucking chariot.

Soo... Bloodborne Old Hunters Progress... I finally met a boss that is giving trouble and thy name is....

Motherfucking Bastard of Kos. He's mobile, has a big frontal hit box that's larger than your dodge roll, punishes backstepping hard, has a quick stun recovery and can 100 - 0 you if he can lock down his combo. His Super Saiyain mode is also a pretty big pain in the ass... took me awhile to find out the strategy to beat him (dodge toward the side opposite his weapon - because he backswings so it's counter to most enemies. And exploit his leap recovery in phase 2.)

Other notes. Fishing Hamlet is well designed, but those whale monstrosities can die in a fire. The well is harder than most chalice bosses and I found myself using paper just to finish them quick.
Rsearch Hall was fine and Maria was a cool fight (Her V ATK hitbox is really wonky, I ended up auto attacking through her more times than I would have liked). I'm not sure why the 3rd boss was called Living Failures when they were harder than Celestial Emissary, they should swap names.

Also, Hacksaw is an awesome weapon. V. Attack? How about giant spinning blade for 3 thousand damage.

Dark Souls 3 dlc is amazing so far' problem is I want to continue it and I'm stuck with no avenue of souls (I've never ever farmed before) and only two boss walls I am at. Sister Friede and Demon Prince.

I only go solo. That's just the way I roll.

1. Is there any way to continue?

2. Which one should I devote myself to

3. Any major tips for either?

I'm level 92 assassin build

38 Vigor and 46 intellect ice 25 endurance and the rest low level

Level 92 is fine for Sister Friede and Demon Prince. Your Vigor is good but I'd put some points into Endurance to get your Stamina up. You need to dodge a good amount for both these fights.

1. You need to beat Demon Prince to continue onto the Ringed City. Sister Friede is the last boss of Ashes so you don't *need* to beat her, she doesn't unlock anything special when she dies sans the end of a questline, boss soul and some dialogue.

2. Devote yourself to Demon Prince so you can at least continue onto Ringed City and farm souls there to make Friede easier if you want to return to her.

3. Friede: Use headphones for when she disappears so you can find her location and punish her before she charges her attack. In Phase 3 watch where her ice shards originate, she should be near where the second cast was and you can get some hits on her if you find her. She's what I call a "Leap Punisher." Try and bait our her grab / leap, dodge forward, then turn around and punish her during the recovery.

Demon Prince: Depending on which one you kill first changes how you approach the second phase of the fight. Killing Demon from Below first will result in a more caster like phase 2 where he shoots out fireballs (IMO, this one is harder) where as killing Demon in Pain first results in a more Melee type Phase 2 where he uses a fire breath attack (This one is easier, and I always use this tactic) You can safely attack this one from behind, and when he uses his fire breath you have a good 5-10 seconds of free hits if you get behind him in time. Also, Thunder is your best friend.

I really wanna go back to DS1 and do a play-through up to DS3 but my backlog just keeps getting worse (my fault of course, nobody is forcing me to buy new games lol). I suppose I could squeeze in each game between spots on my backlog... Also, dammit, I need a Demons Souls remaster in my life.

Dude your a saint!!

If I could pick your brain a little more. I'm gonna keep doing demon prince but I'm running a moonlight great sword +5 and I'm doing decent damage but I heard black knight weapons really do well.

I've got 16 strength and dexterity. Could I two hand a black knight sword and keep damage or would moonlight still be best?

I don't have one but I could farm one I think.

Thank you!!!

I spent two weeks on nameless king but these two are gonna be the end of me!

Anytime, always happy to help.

If you're running 46 Intelligence stick with the Moonlight Greatsword. The Intelligence scaling is ridiculous and since you're used to it's moveset, stick with it. A common misconception people make when facing a difficult boss is "This would be easier with a different weapon / this would be easier with a different build." In reality you need to learn the bosses patterns and how to best respond to them with your given playstyle. There are bosses that are near impossible with specific builds (looking at you Smelter Demon 2.0) but Friede and Demon Princes isn't one of them. Don't be discouraged if you're doing low damage on Princes, we all do low damage on Princes, they purposely have a LOT of health. It's an Endurance fight... good luck :)

Edit: Nameless king and Friede have a lot in common. They're both "Leap Punishers" like I mentioned before, where they have quick, magic damaging attacks in a 180 degree arc. Keep your distance, wait for the gap close (they both have long wind up animations) then roll and punish.

Good advice. I can get friede to third phase but only a few times and then I get manhandled pretty easily but I think I can get it down eventually. Demon Princes I've only once got past the 1st phase. My strategy is to go ape on one and then the other. Trouble is when they both get involved I get killed so I have to be really fast. After 10th time I'm gonna have to change strategies :)

For first phase pay attention to the Demons colors. The one that's Red (Enraged) will relentlessly attack you, while the one that's docile (black) will stay back and shoot Venom at you. Either kite the red one away and go in on the black one, or attack the red one while dodging the Venom ranged attacks. It all depends which one you want to kill first. If they're both enraged.. run away and wait for one of them to turn black, then repeat.

I've learned 2 things in DS2 tonight:

1. You can be hitstunned out of entering a fog door.

2. Of all the bosses so far, the fucking gimmicky Executioner's Chariot is giving me the most problems. It's like if I had beat Pontiff no problem but got stuck on Wolnir. I keep dying in the stupidest fucking ways too, like getting myself pinned against a wall by a dozen skeletons and all of us getting oneshotted by the chariot.

Edit: I just fucking fell off the bridge on the way there after accidentally doing a strong attack.

Edit 2: Yay I finally killed him. I don't know why I had so much trouble dodging that stupid horse's attacks. Then I backtracked to Lost Bastille and found the Luna Belfry. Lmao @ the gargoyle boss fight. Wtf, I was not expecting having 3 enemies attack me at once.

For future reference in Executioner's Chariot boss, Alluring Skulls are great for keeping the skellies out of your hair. Aim the camera up a little and throw them far to get rid of them.

Finally bought DS3 but I never really gave DS2 the time of day. Should I play SotFS before DS3?

It's honestly up to you. There's not really much connecting them, 3 removes a lot of interesting ideas and mechanics from DS2 but brings some new things to the table, and they both play extremely different from each other.

You should definitely give SotFS a proper go, but it doesn't matter if you do that before or after 3.

3 is significantly shorter than SotFS though.

i don't think it really matters. i guess it comes down to preference.

if you want a shorter game that feels like a true sequel then play DS3. if you want a longer game which tries some new stuff then play DS2.

I don't think DS2 is a bad game on it's own and I'm glad I played it. The bosses are all super easy and only 2 stand out to me now where I had trouble with them but otherwise the world feels much larger/varied. Also the controls in DS2 i just couldn't get used to and it's still the Souls game I played most (per single playthrough). compared to DS1/3/Bloodborne DS2 just feels so slow and unresponsive.

I always was a DS2 apologist but playing it back to back, Ds3 plays so much better. I think in 10 years time DS3 will be remembered really highly after people clamor for more Souls. It is the ultimate Souls game for me.

No hate on DS2 as it's a good game on its own and feels like there's always a new area around the corner. It just suffers in gameplay and design

Is it normal in Firelink Shrine where if you die outside if it and try to go back outside once you spawn at the bonfire that there's a cloudy wall blocking you for 5-10 seconds while the outside area loads?

I want to make sure it's not just me who has to wait for the area to load before proceeding.

Yes, the game does that to load the hub faster.

After listening to the recent Easy Allies podcast, where there was a discussion about loot and treasure chests and their contents, I came to the realization why I personally like/enjoy DeS and DaS1 a lot more than DkS2.
Granted I haven't played DkS3 yet and sadly can't remember how BB dealt with it, even though I nearly finished that one and its DLC.

An absence of chests in the former one and "carefully placed" ones in the latter.

DkS2 - "Vanilla" and SotfS - in my opinion/experience has an over abundance of treasure chests.

I'm going through SotfS on the PS4 at the moment and have to say that quite a bunch of them don't even make any sense to me in their placement and importance of why their contents need to be in one in the first place.
For a few of them a lootable corpse, to me, would've sufficed.

They sometimes feel like they are there just to - I hate to use that phrase - "artificially inflate the difficulty", by making wooden ones breakable during the heat of a badly placed enemy encounter/fight.

DeS, with its lootable corpses, had a "sense of intimacy" when pillaging them, even further enhanced by the Item Burden stat, that I personally liked even though I totally understand and agree why others don't.

DkS1 on the other hand made its contents and placement deliberate enough to where I understood why they had to be protected by a chest and where they were placed.

That is not to say that there aren't weirdly placed chests in DkS1 or ones with a purpose in DkS2, I just can't think of them right now.

I don't know, in the end this post seems a bit rambley, badly constructed and I don't know why I started to write it in the first place. Sorry.

I kinda like Blighttown, even if it's kicking my ass. But I also liked Valley of Defilement, so it works out I guess. I'm weird.
