So the season is kinda shaking out like this:

Tonight: Episodes 1 and 2
Dec. 8: Episode 3
Dec. 15: Episode 4
Jan. 5?: Episode 5
Jan. 12?: Episode 6
Jan. 19?: Episode 7
Jan. 26?: Episode 8
Feb. 2?: Episode 9
Feb. 9?: Episode 10
Feb. 16?: Episode 11
Feb. 23?: Episode 12 (100th episode overall, finale of first story pod)

The Winter Olympics run Feb. 9 to 25, though, so I wonder if they'll take a break after Feb. 2 and come back March 2, or if they'll double up episodes for a few weeks to get through Episode 12 by Feb. 2. Or maybe they'll just run right through the Olympics, ratings be damned! Who knows.
Taking a break makes more sense than not.

The show gets better as it goes. S4 > S2 > Back half of S1 > S3 > First half of S1.

First part's the worst, but sticking with it is worth it.

Just keep watching. The impact on later seasons will be much greater if you watched what happened in Season 1. Ep 10 is probably the worst of the entire series but it improves steadily after that and the end of S1 is great.

I pretty much agree with this except I would split S3 into two halfs like you did S1.

S4 > S2 > back of S1 > front of S3 > back of S3 > front of S1.

Just watch it all. S1 gets much better and the best arc in the series so far (in S4) is so much better if you have history with the characters.

I'm so excited this is coming back. I wish I could watch it live. No cheap streaming options available for international viewers either. =(

Agreed w/ your rankings w/ that split, S3 is just such a blue of stupid romance plots for me at this point.

Thanks for this.

Hopefully the schedule won't get too borked over the next couple of months. Tired of "momentum killer" breaks every time I get invested in a tv show. Winter finales, arcs, holiday interruptions... fine.

Nothing like getting hyped up only to crash because of repeated breaks between episodes -- along with the utter stupidity that is the scheduling snafu of airing one ep, followed by two week break, another ep, then a three week or month long break, etc.

So excited for tonight! Probably the very last time I'll ever be this excited over the premiere of a network television show!

I don't know if I should be sad about this prospect or not... love this show, though.

I agree with this ranking.

Also, about the two "pods" this year... hmmm... wasn't that basically what they did every other year?

S1A: Introduction/standalone cases/Clairvoyant & Raina
S1B: HYDRA/Garrett (Clairvoyant)
S2A: Whitehall/HYDRA/Calvin
S2B: "Real" SHIELD/Daisy's Parents and Inhumans
S3A: Inhumans/Ward-HYDRA/ATCU/romance shit
S3B: Hive and the real purpose of HYDRA/Inhumans/romance shit

So I'm kinda worried now... but hey, let's hope I'm just getting ahead of myself and S5 ends up being really good.

It's kind of what they did but I feel like the S4 pods felt a lot more separate. S3 had two different arcs but it didn't feel like a completely new story line, at least in my opinion.

And it worked great for S2, which I think is almost as good as S4.

I suspected the season would be two pods ever since they mentioned the first arc would be all of 10 episodes some weeks ago. I'm still hopeful we are gonna get a great season that can live up to S4 or close to it.

Been making my way through S4. Will probably be a few days before I'm caught up, but man it's been great so far. Just finished episode 10.

S4 > S2 > back of S1 > front of S3 > back of S3 > front of S1

This is my exact ranking.

Season 1 gets better from episode 11 onward when they introduce the Clairvoyant plot.

Then from episode 17 ("Turn, Turn, Turn"), which is the Winter Soldier tie-in episode and one of my favourite episodes to date still, the remainder of the season is awesome.

Season 2 was just great. Especially the finale, that was dope shit.

Season 3 was wonky. It hit some high highs but the overall consistency was lower than season 2 and it was less enjoyable than the back half of season 1 imo.

Season 4 stalled a bit at parts but was still damn dope and my favourite season. I keep alternating between 4 and 2, but right now I'll say 4.

While S4 and S2 are my favorite seasons (as I just mentioned) I have some small nitpicks with both of them:

-S2: That dumb episode with Calvin's band of misfits and how they wasted EDWARD JAMES OLMOS for fuck's sake.
-S4: Low-budget Racoon Ghosts and then the actual "bad guy" for the Ghost Rider pod were both disappointing and felt non-threatening compared to the rest of the villains throughout the season.

I'm so gonna love this guy. Can't wait for him to place some truth bombs.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Showrunner Admits MCU Tie-Ins Will Be More Thematic Going Forward
"It's a thematic tie," Whedon told CBR. "We try to make it feel like that the whole thing is moving in this swelling direction. We're not in space for no reason. We wouldn't have gone there if they hadn't. The overt ties were a necessity of starting out, but those have faded over time, basically because we have our own mythology. That started to be much more interesting to us, and hopefully to the audience, just digging that stuff up. No one wants to come to see our show to see another show. Now they want to see our show, which, yay."

This makes sense. That being said, if it looks like they're getting renewed for season 6, the end of the season will every likely have a direct tie-in to Infinity War. How can it not?

But I do feel like some people expected more tie-ins than would have made sense. Winter Solider is still the only MCU movie where a direct tie-in was something that needed to happen. Doing a tie-in for Guardians, Guardians 2 or Ragnarok simply doesn't make sense. And most others would be forced.

Winter Solider was a must. Infinity War is a must. But even Age of Ultron wasn't needed, though it was fun.

Yeah, tie-ins are the least interesting part for me. I do care more for the characters and their arcs than the possibility of "omg they might have to fight a stray Ultronbot or something!"

There looks to be a lot of new faces in this thread for the new season. Just to let you all know, I know you love May, but I'ma vocal about my displeasure of her character and how she drags down almost every scene she's in.

She's been dry since the first season, it sucks.

Oh wow someone agrees with me! At the other place I was alone on an island. She has had zero character development or growth during the entire series. She's mad at the world blah blah blah. She has cool fight scenes but her dialogue is shit
On the old place I did express my dissatisfaction of the May character, probably in all season threads lol.

I blame the writers though. She was at her best in the episode were she was actually smiling haha.

Aos has the best pacing of any show on tv, the stuff that went down in season 4 would be 6 seasons anywhere else. 6 bad seasons

It especially made clear watching it along with Flash season 3 whose pacing was.....less than perfect

It helps they don't have one big overarching story but 2 or 3 smaller ones which means it has to progress shit and not waste time

That is where they get you, the overarching stuff happened in the background and only popped up just to let you know shit was building. The Darkhold was the season arc, but they had other shit going on. And remember the senator lady? Any other show she would have been the season villain and wore out her welcome

I hate Coulson... but I love Iain, he's constantly knocking all of his scenes out of the park and is the best reason to keep watching the show, so I guess I'll tune in. New guy is kinda cute too, so there's that.

May is dull, yes. Occasionally good with some of the better fight scenes (I miss Bobbi so much...), but mostly dull.

They also kinda tied into Thor 2 (THE DARK WORLD!) and Civil War. They could have tied into Black Panther if they really wanted to.

I like the tie-ins, they're fun. I like SHIELD as it is, but I also still want it to be a shared universe.
