Lets be honest, Nintendo will likely drop Labo like a bad habit and never look back.

I remember a lot of the "Wii Music wasn't a big hit, but there's potential here, Nintendo should totally do Wii Music 2" ... yeah they couldn't run away faster from that idea.

Nintendo loves to throw their weight behind "crazy" ideas, but they can also be remarkably cold to something if it doesn't become a hit the way they expected.

The other big problem with Labo and I suspect Nintendo is getting an earful about it from retailers is the packaging is so huge it takes up a ton of retail space and that is not a small problem.

The main difference for me is that Wii Music absolutely sucked.

Did Nintendo reveal a release date for the gun kit? I wonder if they just bury Labo at this point and never release it.

I expected better sales for Labo on holidays but I also expected Nintendo to promote them these months but they never did

Is a gun kit really a great idea? The sight of kids building cardboard guns with the way the gun violence issue is in the US ... Nintendo might be better off just leaving that concept in their R&D lab.
It really wouldn't be a big deal, especially if the guns are unrealistic. Nerf guns and the like sell very well without issue.

Week 52 report will be out at Wednesday 9 January for Famitsu and Thursday 10 January for Media Create. Media Create will likely have week 1 report together.

that's so sad. :(

anyway, with Switch hitting above 300k in both Famitsu and Degenki, how do we stand in the DOOM & GLOOM narrative?

The narrative wasn't Switch to just barely hit 300k (and sell even less than last year on Famitsu). But to sell well over 300k, more like 350k.

So almost nothing changed.

WTF 350k?

People should start lowing their hype because this is getting ridiculous.

I predicted 310k and I thought I was being waaaay too much optimistic.

It wasn't ridiculous or even remotely optimistic to think that it could reach around 350k. Following a traditional sales curve for the holiday period it's what it led to.

People should maybe do more researches before claiming that someone else's prediction is ridiculous.

Another day and date 3rd multiplatform release doing better on the Switch. Who will be the first to tell me why it doesn't count? ;)

I wonder how much of the hardware forecast bet on Labo, even sales analysts bet it would do really well back at reveal because it's so Nintendo.
I think Switch hardware forecast is an obsession that exists only in this forum and the mind of some "analysts" but since it was Labo day today, it's a last chance for it to be heard again before Nintendo abandons it for ever.

Fire Emblem and Yoshi missed CY and one or both of them will miss FY too
Nintendo online was delayed from its original target and with it some games
Labo failed to achieve Nintendo's target
No price drop for Japan, just one day cheaper Mario Kart 8 bundle for US and holidays cheaper Mario Kart 8 bundle for Europe.

With all these circumstances, unlucky and intentional, software target will be beaten handily and the worst scenario for hardware is that it will be missed for 1m.
If Nintendo was so insecure for these 20m as some think they would move at drastic actions but their actions show they are very confident they'll come close and even if they miss it by a little they hardly care when revenue and profits will explode this year.

400 units is statistical noise :v
/s but there have also been a couple of NSW+PS4 releases where PS4 version opened higher, such as Warriors Orochi 4 or even DQB2. Let's just say the combination of NSW and PS4 is healthy for third-parties. :)

I never understood the obsession for the twenty million goal for Switch by Era or some analysts. Even if Nintendo misses out by one or maybe even two million, Switch sales went up and their software sales are fantastic.

"We missed our hardware goal, but perhaps we were a bit too ambitieus with that goal. Thanks to our sales of the hardware still being fantastic and we hitting our software target 2018 proved to be a great year. For 2019 we are aiming for twenty million again, but we have extra plans to reach this particular goal."

Done.

It's likely Captain Toad Switch will join million seller club this quarter. 3DS version must be around half million but it's doubtful numbers will be given for it.

Octopath Traveler at west remains a question. First of its two chances is approaching.

This will be another quarter of many updates.

Switch is selling well, Nintendo not reaching a very ambitious sales target is seen as a good excuse to downplay overall positive results.

The code of 1-2-Switch at Dengeki is close with this game that is charting and they have mixed the names but so far no one had realized the mistake.

It seems everybody in Japan forgot that today was Mario & Luigi RPG launch.

Yeah, the game on Amazon.co.jp is just 129th, quite outside of Top 100. And while it's the Holiday period, thus being 129th right now can mean more sales than usual, it will still lead to quite low sales.

It'll be quite funny to see the deluxe / remake version of the best selling Mario & Luigi game getting easily outsold by *checks Amazon rankings*

- the late port of the complete edition of Diablo III
- God Eater 3's third week on the market
- Go Vacation and...Katamari Damacy's second week (...?)

I think the problem with labo was that the pack 2 and 3 weren't half as good as the first one.

Wait really? I thought people thought pack 3 was far better. I haven't played that one, but thought that was the sentiment.

Honestly, I think if anything should be free included software, it's the Labo Garage. Sell the kits individually and push the wheel and motorcycle as cheap Mario Kart controllers and let people download instructions as DLC.

Even if Switch FW sales might be lower than PS4 FW sales, legs are often better to the point that LTD might turn out to be very close if not greater.

Just look at FIFA 2019.

It's likely Captain Toad Switch will join million seller club this quarter. 3DS version must be around half million but it's doubtful numbers will be given for it.

At this point Nintendo can fill line-up gaps by porting every Wii U game on Switch. In 2019, late Winter, Summer and mid-Autumn might be used to release such games and collect sales here and there. Pikmin, Xenoblade, Kirby, Star Fox Zero---well, there's not much left but still some nice addition to Switch line-up.

Totally agree with you.
Last year, 15,05 M switch hardware were shipped + 63.51 million units software.
And 6,40 M 3ds hardware were shipped + 35.64 million units software.

If, in this quarter Nintendo ships 19 M switch hardware and 2,5 M 3ds hardware. It's better than last year.
And 100 millions software on Switch + 12-15 millions software on 3ds, it's better than last year.
It's safe to say that Nintendo will make profit and shareholders will be proud even if it don't reach 20 M switch hardware.

I think that Nintendo was confident for Q3 but Furukawa said that beginning of 2019 is also very important.

"It's not an easy goal, so we'll see how things go at the start of the year."

http://www.siliconera.com/2018/12/2...not-so-much-for-hardware/#0cPxiBExtGaVJuVB.99

https://www.kyoto-np.co.jp/economy/article/20181221000056

To reach 10 M hardware on Q3, it needs 4,5 M ( shipped ) for north america, 2 M for Japan and 3,5 M for the rest of the world. ( Europe, Southern Asia, Australia etc...)

Cool seeing all the evergreen games rise this week. Shout-outs to Mario Party for completely blowing my expectations this year, really good return for that brand.

Wow, that would be way better for the 3DS version than I had expected.

People need to stop being so negative about the 20 million forecast discussion. Want to know why people talk about it? Because it's up in the air on whether or not nintendo will hit it. This naturally brings out more discussion as people go back and forth discussing whether or not they will hit it and what may have caused the struggle to hit it. Not everyone is a Nintendo hater or part of some conspiracy theory just because they discuss their forecast.

All of the "obsession" posts just seem to be a drive to shut down discussion because they don't like it. Maybe people should focus on all the shitposting that goes on with the stupid Nintendo doomed meme posting. Does that add anything of value to threads?
