Yeah, apologies, didn't realize how big that text block was until I loaded this thread up in my phone.

TLDR: Beni and Bogey are beasts.

Yeah I was looking at league leaders last night and saw that Benitendi was having an even better season than God Emperor Mike Trout. What a monster.

I'm kinda annoyed that Erick Weiss on Detroit might beat out Rizzo for RotY given that Weiss is 28 and Rizzo is 23, but alas. Also I had Weiss on my Rule 5 list but didn't manage to get him :(

Weiss has been ridiculous for me. The rest of my team sucks, but he's been a gem at least.

June was very kind to the Rays. Turns out, if you rotate most of your AAA roster through the majors, eventually you'll find one or two that can hit. Didn't only have to find a substitute for World Series MVP Joe McCarthy, lost for 4 months with a concussion, but I have this Justin Williams guy who just completely shit the bed. He hit .314/.373/.574 with 23 HRs and 68 RBIs in 331 ABs last season. But this season? .160/.200/.240 in 75 ABs before I pulled the plug.

I also have a guy that OSA thought was one of my top pitching prospects (Triston Casas) that I converted to a 3B, and that seems to be going well so far in an extremely small sample. I love finding guys to convert. There's a guy the Mets have that I'd convert in a heartbeat.

This league man. I went to see who the Yankees pitching coach was because they have a staff of young starters all basically killing it for them. It's Oil Can Boyd. That's cold OOTP.

Man, I have so many ex-players as coaches. I love a recognizable name. I've got Larkin, Mike Hampton, and Mark Grace on the ML team. Jason Grimsley, Charlie Hough, and Ozzie Timmons are my AAA staff. Mitch Williams and Barry Bonds are at AA. Harold Reynolds and Eric Young at A+. George Brett at A. Jason Ellison and Dante Bichette at A-.

Former players who become coaches during the course of a game (read: not already coaches at the start of the game in 2017) are some of the best candidates to find really great coaches. I had Richie Sexton come back as a hitting coach and in the editor his teach hitting rating was 187 (max is 200 so 100 is average). Their stats are randomized but given that the reputation attributes for coaches are almost completely irrelevant regarding their actual skill level I'm generally ok with rolling the dice on a player turned coach.

I'm betting that's what the Yankees got with Oil Can Boyd. A player turned coach who RNG'd into a well above average teach pitching score, turning all their solid pitching prospects into productive starters overnight. Going to suck in the AL East if that's the case, 1. because they won't fire him as long as they're good and 2. the development boost he'll give those 20-something starters isn't going to disappear any time soon.

That said, nothing matches a good ol' fashioned glitch on the game's part. I once had a pitching coach with a teach pitching score of 6885. Even as commissioner going into the editor it couldn't be changed. I positioned him in my first full season mL tier and basically every kid with a worthwhile makeup who spent any time with him turned into a stud. New pitches and velo increases for someone nearly every monthly scouting update. Game breaking really.

I sent a couple PMs to people already but might as well post it here if anyone has interest in trading for:
1B - Paul Goldschmidt
SP - David Price
CL - Craig Kimbrel

Let me know. Still in the WC hunt so I'm not going full-on sell necessarily, but we've got five user controlled teams fighting for the two WC spots and I'm 4th in that group. Add being 6 games out on the division and it only makes sense to listen on anyone outside of my 25-28 year old core.

My first round draft pick is already in the starting rotation. Probably one of the quickest promotions in modern baseball history.

The knuckleball can do screwy things in OOTP. I've had Steven Wright put up multiple <4 ERA seasons when using the Red Sox, and he isn't even a particularly well rated knuckleballer. Josh Gann (the kid you got) has the best profile I've seen the game generate for one. Especially interesting that he was created with three pitches, but no fastballs, yet higher than standard velocity compared to most knuckleballers. The low work ethic isn't great but I've always found intelligence matters more for pitchers and he's got that as a positive.

His ERA will likely regress as his BABIP normalizes, but plugging a first rounder into your rotation not much more than a month after the draft and knowing he's probably going to consistently post a >100 ERA+ over 200+ inning for the next decade is a pretty nice haul.

Your only problem is that the Astros are just stacked. Being 5 out on my division while my team is playing good ball is a bit frustrating for me but you're 10 out with nearly the same record.

Yeah I'm used to playing for a Wild Card, same thing happened in our past league. The Astros were the best team in the AL West until like 2025.

Also Gann's stuff increased during the last player dev update.

I'm about to add a knuckler baller to my rotation. Hopefully it works out!

Tons of injuries for my team that sim, mostly in the minors but still. My 2nd best hitter is now nursing a nagging injury for two weeks. And I went 1-5 :(

I need to send you a Christmas card for Mathias, Brent. He's approaching my team leader in WAR. Too bad Knapp, the guy I got in the R5 the previous season, couldn't keep up the magic that made him the ROTY runner-up.

In other news, it's a shame Esteban Carrillo ended up on an NL team. Dude might hit 50 HRs and get close to 140 RBIs, but he'll probably only net 1.5 WAR due to his absolute hatchet job in RF. He already has a ZR of about -20.

Just a disastrous August for the Mariners. After hovering around .500 most of the season I went like 8 games under in August. Losing my top two position players by WAR hurt a lot.

August was such a buzzkill. All the injuries, especially to my top 2 hitters, just derailed the season. If I played anywhere close to .500 that month I might've made the playoffs.

Alas, another season added to the longest playoff drought in baseball.

I've been fortunate to have enough depth to deal with the slew of injuries I had to a lot of my best players. Kershaw is out until well into next year and I'm still doing pretty well. A lot of young position players too, and I'll be shedding some big money at the end of this year, which is desperately needed.

The production I got out of what looked like a very marginal, injury-ridden pitching staff this season has been astonishing. If I was told at the beginning of the season that my two offseason hole-fillers DeSclafani and Bailey would spend a decent chunk of the season as my #1 and #2, I would've predicted a 75 win season.
