Era, we're all well aware that the industry is in a healthy place atm. Large studios are getting large budgets and lots of time to bring whatever their imagination comes up with to life with stunning amounts of detail. Now, that also includes games where you aren't just killing human grunts. Our greatest fears can be brought to life. In short, there are some things where the thought of seeing them would just make me utter "I'm good fam"

As an example:
GIANT ENEMY SPIDERS AND INSECTS IN GENERAL

So, all that said. What enemies would you prefer to not see in games nowadays?

Yeah going to agree on the spider thing. Sorry spider fans, but spiders are creepy as fuck.
God can you picture an EDF game with realistic graphics? I do not know if I could play that.

I saw some metro exodus gameplay and immediately noped out at some ugly spider scorpion thing inside a crawlspace.

It's already happening.

I feel like animation quality is a big part of this as well.

I hate anything involving underwater sea monster-type enemies. That's why I'm never going to play Subnautica.

I'm definitely terrified of spiders, but spiders in games/movies don't bother me in the slightest. Even now I don't think games could do spiders realistic enough to trigger my phobia, it's the way they move in addition to the look, something I've yet to see done correctly in a game.

I'll fight creepy video game spiders all day long, but one single creepy gif of a real spider? Fuck that noise.

I would be interested in seeing Drakengard's infamous cannibal babies rendered in photorealistic detail.

Depending on the visual style of prime 4, there might be some creepy looking enemies. Some already looked creepy in prime trilogy.

Just think of hd realistic sheegoths. Metroids themselves might even look kind of creepy.

There were a lot of people accusing TLOU2 of being unnecessary gore porn. while I'm sure there is some truth to that, it seems to me most of it is just cause of how fucking realistic it looks.

So humans.

If Capcom was crazy enough to do a VR Dino Crisis revival on PSVR, that might legitimately give me a heart attack -- not just because I want to play it, but because I think Dinosaurs are pretty spoopy and seeing them in VR, in first-person, would be insanely creepy. I mean, imagine that scene in Jurassic Park where the kids are hiding from the velociraptors in the kitchen, but now imagine that's you...

Pokemon. Technically speaking, Detective Pikachu is a pretty solid confirmation that "Real Life" Pokemon are scary as hell to look at.

Trypophobia based monsters.

That Mlb shit is horrifying enough, let's see what happens when someone actually TRIES to emulate that feeling

Yeah I agree on that sentiment OP. The spiders in Bloodborne are legitmately terrifying due to how real they look.

EDF is already spooky as fuck despite being extremely zany, I really would not want to imagine it with realistic graphics at all. I just hate giant insects tbh.

Normal humans are harder to justify for me
So much this

Yup. I still haven't watched the reveal trailer til the end, I simply see no positive gains for myself by doing that. Humans and realistic brutal violence needs to go. And even if I could adjust to it it's still an annoyance when the focus on AAA games is violence since I can only play games late at night because the kids might watch.

Oh, please. How would it be any different from movies with realistic violence? It's ridiculous to me that people in 2019 are complaining about violent video games.

I'm going to go with insect and insectoids definitely. They have an insect creature in RE5 and whoa man, holy shit is that thing scary. It's especially terrifying when it lands it insta-kill attack and it very briefly zooms in on it's face and showing the creature stabbing the player repeatedly with its subarms. It's locomotion when injured in certain ways is also frightening. Shit! Fuck bugs...except bees, lady bugs, crickets, spiders, ants, worms and caterpillars.

I dismissed this post at first because I don't find dinosaurs scary. Then I imagined what ultra-realistic Spiders or Cockroaches would look like in VR and, yeah, I can see where you're coming from. The small 'face hugger' type creatures in Farpoint made it so that I couldn't even get past the first level of that game. It is weird though because I was perfectly fine going up against the big spider in Skyrim VR.

There were a lot of people accusing TLOU2 of being unnecessary gore porn. while I'm sure there is some truth to that, it seems to me most of it is just cause of how fucking realistic it looks.

I've been one of the biggest detractors of TLoU2's marketing here so far and my biggest issue is less that it's that violent but that it's that violent with nothing else of substance to add on top of it. To me those trailers are literally just unnecessary gore porn because they utterly fail to ground themselves in any form of real context beyond "shit's fucked, yo." It would be bad in any generation but it's only made worse with how ultra-realistic everything looks.

So, what I'd argue is that I'm fine with a game featuring that kind of ultra-realistic violence and gore; what I'm not fine is a game using that violence and gore as if it were a new lighting technique meant purely to ogle at or, in the case of the 'PSX' trailer, a showcase of how 'edgy' your game is.

Spiders have been a no no since Gamecube tbh. Some games arent too bad but the better the art direction the worse they get

Skyrim VR wasnt so bad because of the major jank, but it can still make you flinch a bit if it runs straight at you. VR spiders are unfortunately just going to get more and more nope... Until Dawn VR was already pretty nope
