There is only one omission for me on the list that irks me slightly BUT at the same time I can understand why he isn't.

OK, but within the context of Activision Blizzard, they're not losing money on the socks. They're making a shit ton of money on those socks.

It's just corporate greed that's trying to maximize what is already a record profit for them without any consideration for the people who are actually producing these record-breaking profits. There's no upside to this.
Let's real, it's (as Jim Sterling has ranted on) short term greed. Companies are laser focused on quarterly results, which works almost ok in some industries and demonstrably poorly in others. In the case of the games industry, it's clearly destructive behavior, both towards consumers and the market as a whole. And, probably, the long term health of some of these companies.

(but companies love sacrificing long term plans for short term gain)

I would have snuck Grant Kirkhope on that list somewhere, and David Wise needs to be even higher! But all good choices, hard to argue with any really!

Martin O'Donnell is the only glaring omission, should be in the 3-5 spot. Otherwise it was a really good video. Top notch editing to boot.

There's a lot of great game composers so some greats are inevitably going to get left off. I do wish Kohei Tanaka was more recognized in the industry. Gravity Rush Soundtracks are my all time favorites, but he has a huge library beyond that. The games just aren't as well known.

Apologies if mentioned earlier,
But Jones on "Cup" briefly lifted the curtain about Kyle's "Pro Strats only Please" origins, and also his (Brandon's) thoughts and personal family history with bits and sarcastic humor in general in the middle of the episode. Very Illuminating, and really one of the reasons Cup of Jones is unique compared with all the other EZA content. Overall, another fantastic episode .

I'll always appreciate how Kyle is so dedicated to keeping the humor with a narrative. And that goes to everything he does, podcast segments, streams and... Final Bosman.

To be fair in regards to Jones' comments on the layoffs, Kyle gave the floor to the other panelists by saying, "So I do, I wonder, panel, when we have a headline like that, obviously it sucks to be let go, obviously we care about any employee, what you believe the effect of this will be."

So Kyle kind of already made the point of how terrible it is. And before it gets around to Jones he's been thinking about what the effect will be, and it seems like he always typically goes to trying to find the positive. Outside of the effect of '800 people are out of their jobs' the only other sorts of effects it makes sense to talk about it is what it means for the company, basically. Unless you want to talk about what it means for the industry, I suppose.

Obviously it was rough, and, in my opinion, really really not the time for it, but I think a big part of it was how Kyle framed the question beforehand (combined with the way Jones tends to think).

I really want to know how they picked the journey composer over shoji meguro, that man has literally mastered so many different genres, come on now

While Meguro is also one of my favourite composers (granted, I don't even know all of the composers on this list, I only got really into listening to video game soundtracks because of Persona 5 actually), it's hard for me to be upset about that list.
Austin Wintory for sure has done a lot of video game music and it's usually very good. I would personally put Meguro higher as well, but I can't really argue against the others on the list.

Even though I didn't know some of them by name, you can't argue with a lot of the games they created music for. Eg, I didn't know the name of the Mario and Zelda composer, but it's hard to be angry that he is high on the list.

I am actually happy with that list. I have some names to search for as I got some from the comments on here and youtube as well (I dared having a look). It's just impossible to put everybody with great soundtracks on a list like this. There are so many great composers and it's even harder to put them in order.

Uematsu is weird for me as well. I would probably put him on the same spot, but I was looking for soundtracks to buy of a couple of FF games or Lost Odyssey and while I really loved those games and I really enjoyed the music in game, listening to the soundtracks is usually meh for me for some reason. I get bored with the relatively quickly and there are usually only a couple of tracks that stand out to me.

It's possible I will still buy Lost Odyssey at some point, but only because I love that game, not because I love listening to that soundtrack.
It sounds old to me for some reason, which is weird because I love the Shin Megami Tensei III soundtrack and that one sounds old as well (and I haven't even played SMT III). That said, he is still a legendary composer and deserves the spot he's in 100% imo.

Edit:
I also love both Gravity Daze (Gravity Rush) soundtracks by Kohei Tanaka, but I totally understand why he's not on the list. Not sure if I would place him in the top 10 either.

All in all I am happy with the list. It's a difficult job to make a top 10 list in general and for sure for something like music as there are different tastes and styles of music which makes it very difficult to compare.

He probably wouldn't make the list as he hasn't composed a video game score in years, but honorable mention should go to Michael Giacchino. He was primarily a video game composer and was able to become one of Hollywood's busiest composers. His video game breakout hit was Medal of Honor (created by none other than Steven Spielberg). J.J. Abrams loved the music from the game so much he hired him to work on Alias. That was the start of his Hollywood career and the beginning of the end of his video game career. It worked out for him, considering he's won an Oscar (Disney/Pixar's Up) and nominations for his work.

This top ten might be the best they've done yet, just from an audio/visual standpoint. Fantastic editing.

Im just ready to fight to the death to put some more respect on shojis name, using different music styles that arent seen in video games all the time. Creating soundtracks that lift up a game but also are surprisngly incredibly playable out and about in the world.

Just think he should have 100% been above that journey composer for a ton of reasons, everyone else above has a right to be there

"That Journey composer" has also utilized a wide range of styles, creativity, and atypical musicians. Sounds like you have a very surface-level understanding of his works. Which is fine, I don't know Meguro's work quite as well, but that's how these lists come together, a collective group of putting different candidates forward and trying to sort out differences of opinion. If I were to do a list myself, it would look entirely different (and I'd never get it done because I'd keep wanting someone else on it.)

Lmaooo im sorry blood, I honestly did not expect to get a response from you and wasnt being totally serious. I also do not think I have played a single game that "the journey composer" has worked on, so yes less than a surface level understanding. As I have been constanly amazed at how meguro has adapted over the years and been being such a corner stone of Atlus for so long.

In all seriousness it was easily the best top ten yet

Just got up and watched one of Kyle's Tetris runs and he won!

I have no idea if he had won earlier in the stream but that was such a thrill.

Perhaps I have lead Kyle down a terrible dark path by submitting Dummy! that bit got dark

Tho the character of the Dummy in Undertale is a dirtbag jerk so it fits the bit

Of the 3 new releases I played yesterday, I enjoyed this the most out of Anthem and Far Cry New Dawn, but I can't really disagree with the review either. Sometimes you just gotta throw a car and grab some orbs after you get bored of a doctor yelling MY DUDE at you while you do plodding swimming and valve puzzles, or got horrendously bored of Anthems story and combat

If I were to mute this review and wait till the end for a score, I would have seriously been surprised at the 5.5 lol.

Crackdown 3 is another one of those games where it makes me feel so disconnected from the general gaming news outlets because of how much joy it brings me. Having discussions about it anywhere outside of the community thread has proven to be a chore as well, but hey if people really don't like it then that's all good. It's just a shame because I doubt we'll ever get another one, same with ReCore and same with Sunset Overdrive, some of my favorite middling reviewed Xbox exclusives.

The funny thing? I've had way more fun playing Crackdown 3 than many other higher scoring AAA titles reviewed within the past year. Ahh well.

Even though he already streamed Tetris Effect not long ago, last night's Tetris 99 session was oddly nostalgic. Lot of great moments and was happy to see he enjoyed the game.
