I'm really interested to see what they did with War of the Spark to make the limited not be a mess, depending on how many walkers there really are. Games with multiples Planeswalkers are kind of a mess with all the attacking decisions and whatnot and can be super demoralizing if you get behind. I'm assuming it's gonna be just some Walkers at rare, and not common/uncommon (because that'd be ridiculous) but even then that's adding way way more to Limited games.

Trying to jam 30+ planeswalkers in a set sounds like a disaster unless they do something very different with the way they design planeswalkers. Otherwise it'll just look like they replaced all the sorceries with planeswalkers-as-sorceries.

I'd like to see older planeswalkers show up like Dakkon Blackblade. Maybe Geyadrone Dihada arrives to assist Bolas and summons Dakkon to force him to do the same.

I will admit that getting nothing for my 8 or so 4-2s in Singleton is a real feel bad, but I got two free Ghaltas (one with white weenie and one with mono green ramp) so I have three now which is nice. And experimenting with deck building was fun.

Personally I enjoyed playing Singleton, even though it took me hours and hours and hours this weekend to get my 3rd and 4th copies using Golgari.

Mostly just want a standard queue for it tbh, I'd take it even without any prizes.

Yes. I was hoping since the Blackblade had resurfaced that he would make an appearance eventually. But if he shows up, Dihada will probably be in tow.
Just read a summary. I love how much history they have to draw back from.

On that note, I wish we would get to know who the Raven Man is already.

Another cool thing to point out is that Gideon has the Blackblade in hand in his new artwork in the War of the Spark trailer.

No more MSRP

Here is the weird story of the day... WOTC is going to stop having MSRP associated with it's Products https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/no-more-msrp-2019-02-18
This is probably in response to the backlash to Ultimate Masters- where unlike every other product they offer, they only had an MSRP on box prices and not boosters, which lead to people thinking boosters would cost $14 (they didn't), and due to the MSRP bump to last years commander which got people unhappy. Now, MSRP "increases" are going to be better hidden- the price to distributors goes up, which means the price to stores goes up, which means that it's up to the store to decide if they want to raise the price of a booster to 4.25 or whatever.

Whats funny about this is they are still selling stuff on MTGO, and until they decide to change it, they mirror the paper prices, so we will still have an "official" MSRP reflected by the MTGO store!

Doesn't 'release' just determine when the cards are Standard-legal in official events?

No. Only a subset of products can actually be sold at pre-release right now. You can buy booster boxes from your LGS if you pre-order, but lots of other product has to get held back until official release.

Personally I would really prefer it if all products were allowed to be sold the same weekend as pre-release. I hate preordering cards and then having to wait until official release in order for them to get shipped. Nobody is running standard events at their LGS on pre-release weekend anyway so let people get the cards they need earlier.

It very much appears like Gideon is going to, so, you'll probably have your bloodthirst met with the conclusion.
Helios "killed" a single planeswalker and he's a 2nd or 3rd tier villain. The best villains have to kill at least 2 protagonists before people take them seriously. I'd count Jace, Chandra, or Liliana as worth two kills though.

Somewhere South
Gideon dying to save the Gatewatch bunch will finalize his character redemption arc that started with him getting all of his friends killed. He has no other meaningful plot threads, IIRC. Jace just recovered his memories and there's his whole past to address. Lili, life post-pact. Nissa has Zendikar revival and, possibly, the Eldrazi.

What? That's not even an arc they literally made it up in origins barely mentioned it since and is a terrible lesson to boot.
Gideon has been fighting w/o pause ever since the eldrazi got released.
He is or was a follower of Heliod who's kinda the baddie in theros now. He's been crushing on Chandra for ages. The eldrazi are still out there he still has to embrace the Boros in him.

I think Lili has the most interesting stuff with the Raven Man and Chain Veil threads.

My favourite time in Magic is when we're on a plane that doesn't have anything to do with Bolas.

Huh, so from my debut games for my new commander decks: my angels just seemed to run into some bad luck with manabase draws, but that said, I think I DO need to skew a bit more heavily towards white (it's R/W/B with roughly even distribution and lots of duals and junk.) Actually got to terrorize the board a bit, but then took that guy who knocks your life to one in the face because I despite having two kill spells in my hand and like 5 mana open, they both needed one white which I didn't have (well, had two sources tapped because angels will do that.) So yeah, got knocked out there.

Merfolk on the other hand... well, I didn't win, but I got the dominant position with a field of them working in sync and it was amazing... and then my one friend managed to throw kill at my face twice in one turn and I could only counter one... BUT my other friend had that one demon or whatever on the board that makes it so you can't win and your opponents can't lose. And man, despite both the other two being on the verge of death, I managed to prevent them from killing each other fully for like 2 turns, because either getting lethal would've ended it, and then managed to get them both down to zero for a three way tie. So that was a fun, dumb game.

Damn, MaRo is a machine. In addition to his articles, podcasts, convention appearance, family, and actual job, he's filming an interview series now.

The man obviously works hard and loves his job, but I mean, they pay him good money to be doing this stuff. I'd do all that too if I got to be paid to be involved that deep in something I love.

Looks like I've finally found a playgroup here in Tokyo! Lotta really nice and welcoming people. Hoping I can get some of them into EDH so I have someone to play that with, haha

I mean, they're saying mono-white and Boros are the worst because they actually paid a stats expert to pour through a reasonably large sample size of recorded Commander game data, and what the statsman arrived at was "don't play white".

I'll admit I don't have a mono-white deck to confirm this, though that's more because I can't really think of a mono-white Legendary I'd even remotely want to build around other than maybe Elesh Norn, who's already in my Selesnya Anthems Tribal.

I don't need stats to tell me a dearth of card draw and ramp makes mono-white largely a feel bad deck in EDH. If you've played even one game with the Nahiri precon you already know what most of them feel like. You're driving a perfectly serviceable Ford Focus that COULD get you to point B but everyone else is in a souped up muscle car, zooming past you while you sputter your way up to 30mph.
