How convenient for you. If we're so keen on seeing everything in black and white, binary terms, then you either support developers, or you don't.

Not wanting to support a company that gave a platform to, again, bigotry and child porn isn't a hard decision for me to make. You want to play Darksiders 3? Go right ahead. If the devs face negative consequences because one person said fuck this noise it's probably because this industry is in real need of a teaching moment and introspection about how it runs things, even extending past this since you decided to bring Activision into this with someone else.

Haven't bought a THQNordic game (I usually rent). I will probably not buy any games from them but GOD help if they release a Battle for Bikini Bottom remaster, that's the line I'm willing to cross no matter what.

I don't know of any games that I have bought from them or am likely to buy in the future. If they publish a game I really want to play, I'll buy it.

Aren't they a publisher? Would seem wrong to the developers if the game is good to not buy it.

Atlas on the other hand develops their own mess they are in.

I'm not punishing god knows how many developers working at THQ just because some fuckwit PR guy/team screwed up.

Not until they've properly addressed the situation.

There's THQ Nordic GmbH and THQ Nordic AB.
GmbH is a publishing arm of AB. AB is the parent company that owns all of the things, including Koch Media and Deep Silver.
I'll be boycotting all games under THQ Nordic AB. Because while AB had nothing to do with the creation of this shitshow as far as I know, Lars Wingefors, the CEO, founder, board member and majority shareholder of THQ Nordic AB, is the one who decides how to respond to it. And he basically hasn't. AB is ostensibly ok with this. I'm not ok with that.

Effectively bought Shenmue 3 in 2015, so I'll be playing that one.

Horribly written poll, and I say that as a person who will likely not buy anything from them.

Again, no developers are obligated to get your money. People choose not to buy games for any number of reasons, and foul PR is just one of them.

I'm not telling anyone how to spend their money, but don't think that not buying a game is somehow "punishing" devs.

This is such a pointless question because all the major offenders are higher ups and PR devs wholly separate from the dev team who probably don't share those views and are now getting flack for it.
Therefore you are going to have a lot of people who will continue to buy THQ Nordic games. If it was just 4 people with names attached responsible for the controversy than why not put all our efforts into firing them as opposed to harming hundreds of devs?

Again though, at the end of the day, people will either buy the games or they won't. How they feel about the situation doesn't change the fact that the outcome is binary.

If people want to share their more nuanced feelings in the thread, that's what replies are for.
And the downside to having more options is what? You'll still see how people are standing RIGHT NOW if there are options like "no, not until proper contrition is proven" or "yes, but only if THQN doesn't directly benefit", you'll just get more information about how they feel, which is actually the point of the thread.

I don't base my entertainment purchases on if someone is "good or bad", that's just ridiculous. The actions of few people don't mean the entire company is bad. I guarantee there are many people within THQ that felt that "AMA" was a terrible idea. There are bad people everywhere, don't punish the people subjected to them because you want to have the moral high ground.

With that said, they don't put out good games, so i'll continue ignoring them.

I will continue to buy most of their games, as long as they keep releasing on Steam. Now if they sold timed exclusivity on another big title to Epic, I might consider boycotting them.

Let's take TV/Movies for example. If I were to boycott everyone who worked with Kevin Spacey, I wouldn't have a lot of options left. Musically, I would lose a lot of options around Michael Jackson. And bear in mind these are people who were, or were possibly, active paedophiles, rather than just posting on a board where paedophiles also posted.
If I were to apply that logic, I couldn't even play Sonic because of the MJ influence there. That wouldn't be a life worth living.

If Deep Silver, a company owned by THQ Nordic, is THQ Nordic, then yes. I am definitely buying Shenmue 3. I assume anyone in Europe who enjoys Sega or Atlus games will as well, as Deep Silver handles physical distribution of those titles. Going to be hard to avoid all of those games, I'm afraid.

Those are feel-good options to help posters feel less guilty about their choices.

I like that the current poll draws a line in the sand and asks posters to pick a side.

Honestly the more I think about it I am okay not buying anything until there is change from the top at THQ Nordic. On top of that, if they ever really released a game I want, I am sure I could find 100 ways to play it legally without having to actually give the company money.

It sucks that shitty people in leadership can effectively fuck over so many people under them because they can't realize what a dumb thing they did and how supporting that site wasn't the right way to go. Hell even if they had a reasonable mea culpa their posts that were screenshotted should have been enough to put any one off.

I've heard enough arguments in this thread alone that I doubt the speaker can actually possibly believe that I'm not even that concerned by the amount of people who refuse to do anything about THQ Nordic at this point. I'd just like to hear people stop trying to pretend that they care about anything and aren't knowingly complicit. Just concede that you don't deserve a pat on the back when you're not interested in doing anything to earn one.

Ah yes, "edge", the scumbag's first line of defense.

Let's just ignore all the stuff they actually posted tho.

Oh no. I'm not ignoring that at all.
"Edge" was a poor choice of word. I guess. I'm going off what I read others post in the older thread. I couldn't figure out why they did this. But it seems to fall in line with Hbomberguy's video. THQN is banking on the "all publicity is good publicity". They did the AMA and interacted with the scumbags the way they did because they knew it would generate a negative reaction.
It's the only way it makes sense to me aside from the PR guy and board guy actually being irl 8channers.
In reality I don't know. I just don't think it's fair to label them as supporting child exploitation based on what happened because I don't think it's that clear cut.

THQN are still assholes though and I hate that they're doing this. I'm just saying we should be more nuanced about this instead of jumping to the worst possible conclusion because that's the quickest way to generate outrage.

Looking at their list of games released / coming up I don't think there's any chance of me buying one of their games for a long while either way.

Personal boycotts of the games are great from the personal morals perspective, but unlikely to leave much of an impact in their own right whether you engage in them or not. A site-wide boycott would be more effective, but that is apparently off the table. You would need to look at some sort of wider-ranging campaign focused on ensuring this isn't forgotten by next Friday, e.g. constantly highlighting and rewarding the few anti-pedophilia journalists out there such that they feel empowered to harp on this, condemning those who stayed silent or posted weak lip service, targeting advertisers and sponsors as well as the games, etc.

Kevin Spacey stopped getting work after his sexual assaults became public, imagine Kevin Spacey actively advertising himself as a pedophile and a white supremacist who likes to dox people, and then a TV company got on twitter to promote an interview with him, then didn't discipline that employee or even acknowledge the situation and refuses to answer questions about it.

That would never happen, unless your name is THQ nordic, in which case it did happen.

If we stopped making excuses for a company that posted on a webpage that was literally too vile for even 4chan and was taken off Google search results, maybe we could start finding some of that fabled "nuance". I don't see how any of their actions during or after the incident make them deserving of the benefit of doubt.

I'll buy if the game is good, same as any other game company. What they did doesn't affect my decision at all.

Disagree. The fact that results are anonymous and can't be changed makes me think that is exactly the point of this thread. It's a "put up or shut up" type deal.

And have you considered maybe thats silly, especially with a thread asking us how we "really feel"?
Absolutely not. It forces people to consider the actual consequences of their actions.

If you're arguing that the thread title is poorly worded, fine, but I don't see how that matters. The body of the first post makes the intent of the thread perfectly clear.

User Banned (3 days): Advocating Piracy
If a boycott is really going to be effective, people need to start pirating THQN games en masse because direct action that actively harms their bottom line will get a response a lot faster than a couple thousand units not shipping. Chest-beating isn't enough, steal their shit.

I'm not making excuses.

What they did was wrong.

We can condemn them for that without saying they were explicitly doing something they weren't.

Honestly wish my other thread wasn't locked, it was acting as a great flytrap
This is not meant as an attack to you, but I wonder if you'd boycott a Persona game if it was published by THQ :P While nowhere as worse as what THQ has done and as much as I liked that game, Persona 5 has transphobic and homophobic elements that the main characters don't speak against.

The reason I ask this is because you don't want to support THQ. I don't want to support them either and I don't see myself as supporting them. However, when it comes to our fave franchises, I'm not sure I'd have the strength to resist despite the horrible scum they're supporting. At most, I'd buy it second-hand or in a bundle where all proceeds go to charity.
