Massive sales for both PS4 and Xbox, honestly expected a bit more from the Switch. But it is what it is..

How do sales usually pace itself in December after BF/November? I could see Nintendo having a better December than November but for Xbox and PS4?

Wasn't the Mizuho report SKU based?
Battlefront 2 is a multiplatform game and sold 882k at retail combined across Ps4 and Xb1.
Yeah, that's probably true. The Mizuho report says:
Mizuho said:
As for software, Call of Duty: WWII (Activision Blizzard) came out top in the US (PS4 came top on a SKU basis; xbox One second), while Super Mario Odyssey came in second (Switch exclusive, Nintendo)
Considering they are working things out via SKUs, I would say they are lookiing at a per-sku ranking (although it would be strange to proclaim SMO as the no. 2 if it wasn't really no.2 when combining SWBF2 SKUs). I'm not sure how to interpret this quite yet.

When do the official numbers come out?
Next thursday 6:30 PM ET.

ResetERA Aggregate Predictions - Nov-2017

1. PS4 - 1363K
2. XB1 - 1210K
3. NSW - 1108K

Thanks donny.
So the average underestimated Ps4 slightly (~180k or 11.5%) and the Xb1 even a bit more (~190k or 13.6%).
Switch again overestimated by a decent margin (~300k or 38.5%).

I can't believe people still think PC and Xbox overlap to the general consumer.

Forza sells systems. Just not as much as Halo or so. It sold system in 2013, Horizon sold systems in the UK, and charts in Europe bumped Forza 7 up in a few countries after the x launch.

I mean yeah it's no Halo, but the mizoho thread implied a 40% bump so I mean the X still helped Xbox a lot.

The only thing we don't have is the split.
In EU we can discuss but US... no, racing games are not system seller even more Forza.

And console/PC overlaps... a part of PC owners have consoles just to play exclusives.

While that may be a bit early in terms of basing it on data, I think in general these mid-term updates seem to not cause much of a ripple. Ultimately it's impulse buy prices that sell consoles past the halfway point.
Absolutely. I do think they are good for, well, goodwill.

The X more than a smash generation console is the best PR Microsoft would hope for in the wake of a new gen. People will now be curious about how good, in tech terms, will the next xbox be.

Meanwhile, the Pro helped the PS brand look "hip" in the wake of 4k and, while not as well thought as the X, still offers a glimpse on the Sony design philosophies.

Mid gen refreshes are just PR basically.

That's not what I said or what you said before. Your implication was clearly Forza on PC would effect the franchises ability to sell well.

I've yet to see an Xbox exclusive game being on PC hurting the Xbox version.

Er which article? The one from the screenshot links it to the hefty criticism over the monetization feature.

Probably the part where it talks about software sales being up and Call of Duty, a game with loot boxes, being a significant driver of that growth.

Those Adobe charts never spoke for the whole market, nor did they pretend to. If anyone took them as such, then they were just being silly.

Google maps trends are a hilariously bad thing to gauge sales on, though!

Yeah, talking more about those who extrapolated the Adobe info. :)

Next year will happen again lol

MS launching XBO X with such little effort on the first party software front is indeed baffling.
I suppose they don't care increasing their first-party output and simply are content with releasing a better performing XBO.
No need for supposition, they said so recently. I mean, Penello came on ERA and proudly touted they consider it to have the 'most launch titles for a console ever'. That should tell you they're hedging their bets on having the best looking multiplats this gen.

Does anyone know if the loot boxes that where in COD where as intrusive and pay to win as they were in BFII? I'm guessing the majority don't mind loot boxes as long as they don't give a blatant advantage to someone with deep pockets.

Loot boxes done correctly can indeed help a game grow, done incorrectly and face the backlash?

This is the (only) correct take about loot boxes and MTX

Not really he was saying all 3 might be close, all 3 have a chance of winning, but he expected switch to sell the leas though. Mean while i been saying ps4 would out sell switch 2:1, and it pissed some people off, enough of call me a fanboy.

Nah man.

My final prediction was PS4 and Xbox above 1 mil. Switch not likely to.

Again I was basing this all on real world data. Happy to help everyone out :-)

If you think about it the guys over at Sony are wizards. They knew they had to lower the price to $199, and knew exactly how many PS4s to put at $199 to beat MS by 10% again...and when they sold them out they didn't replace them.

They could've sold any number they wanted but did it best to maximize profit and still be Number 1 on NPD

I guess that's a sign that being first on the NPD is somewhat valuable for them.

Looks like PS4 sold double what it did in November 2014. Impressive.

There is still so much demand for consoles at sub $200 prices. If and when Sony and MS manage to get sku's permanently in that price range we will see a ton of units moved. As in the past that price is still a magic number to impulse buy for a lot of consumers

Wow. PS4 and XB1 both did very well. Crazy that PS4 sold nearly double of what the SW did. Even XB1 nearly did double of what SW did. Don't think anyone came close to predicting that, which interestingly shows how perception can often be mistaken for something more.

Nintendo is gonna' need to bring it next year. Hope they've got a pretty diverse software lineup brewing.

A little early for Switch's swan song, now isn' it? Holiday season ain't over yet.

I predict they'll have a massive December, beating both PS4 and XBOX unless those get some serious discounts (again). But that's a story for another predicition thread, of course.

Yeah you were definitely on point, man. Awesome stuff. Do you have any sneak peaks or thoughts on how December is going so far? :)

Thank you.

I'm going to keep silent on December opinions until the full month is over. I'm not going to lie talking about November / Black Friday as much as I did stressed me out. Gonna take this month a lot more quietly :-)

I'm curious to see how much money Sony and Microsoft spent on advertising. Last November, Sony outspent Microsoft by only a few million $ and both companies' marketing expenses were in the high 20s (in millions). Considering how much attention Microsoft has given to the XB1X leading up to its launch, I would assume that Microsoft outspent Sony by a significantly larger margin.

They will get discounts, it would be a pretty shitty holiday months for them if they didn't.

Once again Switch has let me down, I honestly expected it to be closer to 1M in November. While my PS4 and Xbox predictions were closer I also underestimated how much they could sell at the lower price point, especially X1S sales.

December will be interesting since I think Switch needs to sell >1.5M to hit 5M in it's first year on the NPD. Thankfully supply in Japan should give us a clue about what to expect in other territories. In terms of PS4 it's just a question of waiting to see what Sony has in store in terms of holiday discounts and bundles, if they run another good deal with ample supply it's definitely possible for them to take December.
Microsoft will definitely be in an ok position after November, with a good discount and PUBG they could continue to sell X1S - to me the demand for X1X after its launch month will be a more interesting thing to follow. It's a bit understated how much better they might have fared if they were able to secure a big exclusive that takes full advantage of X1X's capability - PUBG should do well but I doubt it would move many X1Xs, should have a bigger effect on X1S.

Wow Battlefront 2 sold less then a million? The combination of being a bad game and the awful lootbox stuff hopefully killing a game that doesn't deserve to sell well.

Actually, not so sure about that (anymore). Sony already introduced discounts for its Pro and PSVR. But no news about a discounted PS4 Slim yet. Last year, they announced the price drop for the Slim on December 7th, which became effective on the 11th.
