Yeh it turns it into almost a 2v1 as you shoot at this little hovering thing, not really paying attention to him as he shoots you, and then finally him. If you're trying to 1v1 him and he uses it, that's 450 hp to burn through, not counting his crappy self-heal.
Is it any different than Symmetra's turrets and teleporter though? Or Torbs and his turret?

Baptiste achievement for amplifying 2500 damage or healing is crazy difficult. I just went through a super long match where I was able to ult 5 times without dying. Had a couple team mates and myself shooting at tanks through the barrier every single time with our normal guns and that still was not enough. Hardest character achievement since cratered.

I do really like playing as him, and I usually hate playing healer

Baptiste is fun! I'm not sure how to use his ult efficiently yet but the rest of his kit is nice.
Orisa also feels much better with the improved movement speed when firing.
Yeah I have awful timing with it. Even used it once when we got a full team kill, problem is my teammates had killed everything before it even got set up. Keep forgdtting i can just use it to amplify my heals though. keep using it for dps purposes.

Ah, I see we've already gotten to the "Baptiste is OP, pls nerf" discussion. That didn't take long.

Immortality field is really easy to bait and get rid of. Especially in lower levels, people who aren't used to the kit are just throwing it willy-nilly and team members are just walking out of it and dying. As soon as it goes up I aim for it and can take it down in a few shots. It's no different than having to face down and kill a Torb turret that's firing at you.

Man, I wish people didn't cry nerf as soon as a new ability that requires new thoughts or tactics shows up. I think they're going to wait and see how he plays out in Overwatch League before they change anything in his kit.

I don't know if it needs a nerf but it needs a little longer cool down. I had a tiste use it. I killed it but his team came to save him before I could kill him. Retreated to get health then came back all within what felt like 10 seconds and he fucking had it again!

I am definitely becoming a Baptiste main once he joins competitive, having a lot of fun with him so far.

Initial thoughts about who I play:

  • I like Baptiste and can see myself playing him more. I feel effective in healing with him, he has a ton of tools, and I really like his mobility. Field is pretty easy to counterplay IMO; I normally play Zen and a fully charged volley with almost take it out (240/250HP). I did notice it getting stuck under a payload once though...I thought they fixed that?
  • Zen feels the same from my perspective, which I guess was the point of the tweaks.
  • 76 feels really good. I like playing 76 the most of the DPS; I do spray a bit and since he enables that for me I've always latched on to him.
  • On that note, I really need to learn the rhythm of burst fire/single shot hitscans. I've always been a shitty Mcree/Widow. Hopefully Bap will level up that aspect of my game.

Yes, because if I shoot Sym instead of her turrets, Sym can die. There are some sizable differences.

That said teammates were much better about shooting the thing last night so I've mellowed on it considerably.

Also Bap protip: you can fire a healing nade between hitscan bursts without losing dps. You can hold down both buttons and it does it automatically.

I think this ability is very balance. It's super powerful, but it relies on the baptiste player to place it well, so with that alone, it's attached with a fail condition (granted, it's not super hard to aim, but the fact that you can wiff it is good). That it's also destructible and on a long cooldown adds pressure to using it well, and if either of these numbers are off, it's very easily changable. And while it's good against some DPS characters, like Tracer (sorry chance), it's not against others. For example, Doomfist doesn't care about the immortality field unless it's a REALLY tight space, because his punch will throw you out of it. Any character with knock back in general is gonna have openings against it.

Also, against the character in general, one shot characters have a slight advantage. Tracer is a character that needs to get close and does damage over time (even if the time is short if your aim is good). I had some luck shooting Baptistes down with Hanzos, because even though they threw out the immortality field, I headshot him before it activated.

In short, I feel that this is the Tracer/genji/dive counter SHOULD have gotten instead of Brigette. It's a skill based hero whose abilities are strong and especially good against diving, but is still counterable in numerous ways.

Okay I agree it's a genuine problem for Tracers, but Bap himself - when that field's on CD - has zero survivability Vs Tracer, I think. Maybe his boots if I don't one-clip him during the windup.

Maybe when I'm meeting Baps who can turn and ding 3 headshots on me.

I was having a lot of fun as Hammond just swinging through an immortality field and knocking entire teams out of it since they grouped up inside it.

Is Baptiste worth learning if Lucio and Zen are the only supports i like?

The other risk for the immortality beacon is that it forces the enemy team to group up together.

I just feel like you're gonna be missing a lot of shots of one or the other, and that it's more efficient to be consistently switching priorities

I tried it last night holding both buttons on my main tank and it worked out good.

His hitscan ammo is kind of a non-issue - it's a huge clip and it takes him 2x longer to exhaust the hitscan clip than the healing. He's always reloading for more heals, so there's literally no downside to shooting 3 damage shots every time you shoot a nade.

You might body the Tracer beyond your tank! We don't like going in with less than 120hp, and one bullet brings us down to 125...

A new character gets released so I played Mystery Heroes in Arcade for a round of loot boxes, got blue junk for the new guy and piles of coins reminding me never to play for boxes outside of events.

Haven't played with Baptiste much outside of giving him a go in the training area, but I don't really like his design; he looks like a generic sci-fi FPS character with the clunky boots and high-tech armor and scouter. It makes him stand out from the rest of the Overwatch crowd, but not in a good way for me.

Totally agree. He's kinda devoid of personality compared to the rest of the cast - visually at least.

also: I love Baptiste's voice actor. somehow he sounds exactly like a "supportive badass" should.

I LOVE his "thank you, Baptiste! Oh, you're welcome!" voice line.

Nerfing him would definitely hurt the casual play

He can't solo heal at all. Not that he can't provide the healing but his survivability is absolute trash. All it would take is one flanker. His self heal isn't a burst like Ana's, it can easily be damaged through, he doesn't have range like Ana does so he has to be within the mid range area. His 'escape' is a vertical jump which is highly situational and requires a charge. His beacon is likely being used on his team so if a Reaper comes walking up behind him A) It's on a long cd B) it has a casting animation. Not to mention his fairly sizeable hitbox for a support compared to all the other rail thin supports(and Zen)

DF feels more broken than ever with his cooldowns buff. Blizzard clearly doesn't know what they are doing.

Decided to play a game of DF off this post, since I haven't tried DF since hte patch outside of DM.

I feel that his mistakes are more forgiving now, but I'll still instadie as soon as the team focus fires on me or if I get stunned at all.

I think this is actually a good patch unless your just idealogically against CC-ability based heroes in general.

He looks the way Soldier76 plays.

That is a hell of an insult to the new guy

This why I'm loving Baptiste cause I can simultaneously dps & heal.
Certainly a cool tip but I dunno how useful it is in moment to moment gameplay
Since there is negligible delay from holding down both primary & secondary fire, I just do it habitually all the time, often times healing/damaging someone I wasn't even aiming at.
