Some more 'info' about the new trilogy:

Rian Johnson said:
That's what I want to capture of Star Wars: the way that it makes you feel as a kid – and as an adult, I guess. And also the world, which is tied into the design (of the originals). That's not necessarily to say that we will or won't have TIE Fighters or X-Wings or what have you, but there's an aesthetic and a feel to Star Wars. A big part of that was drawn from Japanese culture, whether it's the samurai culture and Vader's mask, or even just the clean graphic approach to the design and the very boiled-down design.

Kathleen Kennedy said:
Asked why she felt confident to entrust this new trilogy to Johnson, Kennedy replied, "Needless to say, we've had an unbelievable experience working with Rian. It's hard to believe that we're well into three years, almost four, since I first sat down with Rian and started to talk about making a film. He wrote a beautiful movie, he prepared it beautifully with his producing partner, Ram Bergman. And I have to say, this is one of the best moviemaking experiences I've ever had. So I feel not only personally but I think Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company are very, very fortunate to be able to move into the future of the franchise with Rian at the helm."

I haven't really looked at very many of the TV spots, but if it's really that big of a deal, then alright. I'd just generally wouldn't call anything officially released a spoiler.

Surprise surprise. She's a Mary Sue IRL too.

I highly recommend you don't. It's a pretty big spoiler and I saw it by accident via fucking YT thumbnail

YO

There's a spoiler thread

Please get them tags outta here
If it's in an official advertisement, I don't know if it really qualifies as a spoiler.
I was curious about this and consulted the FAQ for the website. Here's what it says about spoilers:
Spoiler sensitivity, however, cannot be allowed to stifle discussion of actual news. If information is publicized as part of promotional material, or otherwise announced through official channels, it is fair game.
Mod edit: removed spoiler.

Thanks for spoiling the rest of the shit I saw on the YT thumbnail. Fucking thanks a lot.

Thanks, again, for flaunting spoilers in the face of everybody in this thread who asked for you, multiple times, to take this to the spoiler thread, because of the exceptionally unusual nature of that particular TV spot.

The rules clearly state it's OK for discussion. You can't just pick and choose which of the officially released footage is spoilers or not. There has to be a line drawn somewhere -- and I think the rules have it right. Anything that is officially released is fair game.

True, but then the Star Wars thread title we're currently in also says NO SPOILERS.

You maliciously posted things people asked politely to be discussed elsewhere because of their unusually revealing nature. Literally no other TV spot in the last 2 years revealed that much.

The title was changed to NO SPOILERS after that discussion.

Then you chose to say "fuck you all, I am going to post that in the thread you asked not to post it in" just to be able to prove some dumb point.

Again, thanks.

Regardless of if it's technically within the rules, that's a fucking dick move.

I've literally never put anyone on ignore on my entire history of using the internet but gotta do it to Lizzy, thankfully I didn't finish reading her post. So many people have said they're not watching the TV ads, so continuously talking about what is being shown on the TV ads is pretty douchy.

Surfinn, look, man, I think you're misunderstanding me here. First off, I can't be watching this thread 24/7 -- I didn't see the conversation you mentioned in this post. Secondly, what does NO SPOILERS mean for a thread title? It's vague. What counts as spoilers and what doesn't? What counts as unusually revealing nature? As I said, it's hard to know what can be discussed if we're just picking and choosing from officially released footage. Is there some sort of guide here? (Honestly asking).

I apologize if I was coming off as malicious.

Yeah, I see the community here wants no spoilers at all, so avoid posting any in the future, please consider that some people want to go into the movie completely blind. Any further posting of spoilers will result in a temp ban.

I thought this was going to be a safe spot to post. Man.. this is so frustrating.

Getting hit before the release week of the movie.

Anyway, hopefully they do a JW special and we see a bit from his score. They did that for TFA.

My personal stance on no spoilers is for anything that the vast majority haven't seen yet and could impact things (in this case, the movie itself). The thing you mentioned was in a TV spot, but I think once TV spots start popping up more and more, most spoiler-concerned people check out and don't want things ruined on them. But it's also something that would have been a big surprise to most in the theatre only 5-6 days out. That two second image is a fairly big spoiler, and I think since The Last Jedi is only a few days away, mentioning moments outside of the two main trailers is a little iffy.

But that's just my stance on it, not sure how everyone else feels.

I agree with the mod post. This is a place that's for people who wanna go into the film relatively blind. Extra shots from random, already established scenes in TV spots is one thing. But that's something else entirely. Ugh I knew I should have freaking ignored. That, I admit, is on me.

Like I've said exhaustively in this thread, and apparently pointlessly, there's an entire thread dedicated to all that shit.

Shit, I came back to ask about a phantom edit alternative, and almost got that television spot spoiler?

Thankfully I started watching Pulp Empire, randomly and missed all that bullshit

Yenno what I don't even care anymore. Watching the behind the scenes videos washed the taste out of my mouth

I'm full expecting this movie to be incredible.

First Star Wars I ever saw at the theater was Attack of the Clones. I remember loving it and hearing people clap at the end. Weird stuff.

This is the only Star Wars movie I've seen in theatres so far, I saw it with my high school. It's also probably my least favourite Star Wars movie now lol, but oh well.

Considering JJ has acknowledged criticism about TFA being too OT-based and wants IX to feel appropriate for the whole saga, who wants to see Dex's Diner back for one last go?

You didn't see TFA in theaters?!

Also you're got a great avatar
I would have really liked to, but my nearest cinema that shows movies on release is about an hour away and long travel makes me feel sick, so I usually avoid it. There's another cinema very close to me, but that usually doesn't show movies until around the time they are released on home video, and by the point I just end up getting the blu-ray lol.

And thanks, I love GOT. <3

I would looooove to, I'm so hyped for it, but I'll probably not see it next week. Although, I just checked the site for the cinema near me and it's showing on January 5th, which is much, much sooner than I thought they would show it, so I might go to that.

Damn I'm too excited for this! Need to get to Friday without any spoilers.

I did see that TV spot...no spoilers I promise! I don't know what to think of it to be honest but I'm very interested to see how it comes about.

I guess it's time to leave the internet and rewatch all the movies.

Next on the rewatch list:

REVENGE OF THE SITH

-- It's kind of fascinating knowing that all that TCW stuff we watched happened in between this movie and AOTC. Ahsoka, Maul, all that crazy shit happened offscreen before this movie
-- Unlike boring-ass TPM and AOTC, at least this movie starts off with a decent action sequence instead of boring people standing around talking
-- "My powers have doubled since the last time we met." Which was like, what, two months ago? During that TCW arc with Sifo-Dyas?
-- Dooku has like no reaction to getting his hands cut off. And Dooku, dude, you should probably start squealing when Palpatine says he's gonna have you killed
-- Maybe Anakin should contact the clones and tell them to stop firing on Grievous' ship when he and the damn chancellor are onboard. What would Palpatine have done if the ship got blown up? Use his Sith powers and escape?
-- Since Grievous doesn't know that Palpatine is Sidious, it'd be pretty awkward if he just decided to execute Palpatine as a show of force
-- I really wish we could get the Battle of Mandalore adapted as a book or something. I'm imagining that Anakin tries to get in touch with Ahsoka to see how things are going, and it ends up being their last conversation (for 20 years)
-- The Anakin/Padme conversation ("So love has blinded you?") makes no sense. Like, their dialogue and responses to each other are not related in any way. It's like they edited three different versions of this scene together
-- Okay, wait, why does Padme say the queen won't let her continue to serve in the Senate if she has a baby? Can you not be a parent and a senator? What about Bail Organa?
-- Anakin and Obi-Wan just meandering around while Ahsoka and Rex are off trying to take out Maul
-- "I need your help, son." Palpatine to Anakin
-- Anakin's anger at the Jedi Council makes a lot more sense with the context of how they screwed over Ahsoka
-- Dumbass Ki-Adi-Mundi apparently thinks Grievous is hiding on a Republic-controlled world
-- Obi-Wan and the Council are aware that Palpatine is up to something, that a Sith is controlling the Senate, and that their clone army was produced from nowhere by a shadowy conspiracy...and they still don't see what's coming
-- I'm confused about the length of time this movie takes place over. How many months has it been since Padme last saw Anakin? She's already eight or nine months pregnant?
-- "Hey why is this kind old man trying to tell me Sith propaganda? Why does he know about Sith legends? Should I tell somebody about this?"
-- Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Snoke the Wise? I thought not. It's not a story Rian Johnson would tell you
-- These helmetless clones standing next to Cody look like they're all played by different actors?
-- Why exactly did the Jedi send only one guy to take out Grievous?
-- Anakin: "Dooku is a defenseless prisoner but he's too dangerous to be kept alive." Also Anakin: "Palpatine is a super-powerful Sith and behind everything, but I'm gonna let him chill in his office while I decide what to do"
-- I A M T H E S E N A T E
-- IT'S TREASON THEN...RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
-- "To cheat death is a power only one has achieved..." Palpatine just admitted he bullshitted about knowing how to save Padme, who's going to give birth in like two hours, and Anakin is still like "Sure, I guess we can find out the secret together"
-- Anakin's turn to the dark side really does happen way too fast. This morning he was all chummy with Obi-Wan and tonight he's like "Eh, I guess all my friends I've known for decades deserve to be murdered"
-- Did Vader ever figure out that Palpatine was running both sides of the war? Did he never question why Palpatine would do that and realize he made all that shit up and completely manipulated him?
-- And now Anakin decides to slaughter a bunch of children because a creepy old man who just admitted to lying about everything claimed he could save his wife from dying
-- I wonder if Luke and Chewie ever discussed Yoda together
-- Padme is such a terrible character in these films. She just stands around crying, she has no agency, she constantly forgives Anakin for his psychotic, genocidal behavior
-- Finally, after thirteen years and three movies of following the orders of some cloaked hologram, Nute Gunray realizes maybe he got played
-- The editing during this climax is so bad. We get the cool Anakin/Obi-Wan fight, the culmination of this trilogy, and then we keep cutting back to a pointless Yoda/Palpatine fight scene
-- How many people ended up dying because Obi-Wan couldn't bring himself to finish the job and kill Anakin?
-- And there's the...[Mike Stoklasa snickering]...newly renamed Emperor Palpatine Surgical Reconstruction Center
-- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-- So does Bail Organa know that Anakin is Vader? He must, right? Why did he keep that a secret from Ahsoka? Did he fear how she would react?
-- And we're finally done with the prequels. Jesus, these movies are even more of a slog than I remembered

That's why I love all the new EU stuff.
It's very clear that The Clone Wars and Episode III do not exist in the same universe, even if The Clone Wars is "canon". It's like there are tiers of canon, movie canon is above everything and then EU canon, which is canon to the EU but doesn't really affect the movies. Kinda like Marvel movies and Marvel TV shows.

The new canon, though? It actually feels like it all exists together and their aren't tiers of canon.
