What iOS version do new US iPhone X phones currently come with? iOS 11/11.1 or 11.2 already? I would like my new iPhone X to stay on iOS 11.1.2.
And if it's lower than 11.2, does the phone force you to update?

You waiting on a jailbreak or something?

I doubt new phones comes with 11.2 already, it hasn't been long enough. But I wouldn't wait too long

what's even the point of jailbreaking anymore?
I mean, for the X there are some exciting possibilities. From home bar removed (as mentioned) to an always-on display, to maybe a better control center activation, better/denser status bar icon displaying, changing or adding to the lock screen shortcuts, better dark mode, etc.

I still wouldn't do it anymore at this time, but still.

An always on display is particularly appealing. Would be one more thing that blurs the line between iOS and Android.

Mine came with 11.1.X or something. I was asked to update to 11.2.

Hm, that's not good. My initial plan was to wait 3 more weeks at least.

what's even the point of jailbreaking anymore?
At this point I'm just too used to so many tweaks that make iOS life (a bit) easier and still haven't been introduced by Apple yet.
e.g. what about moving apps? Is there still no copy/paste option to easily move them around? There is with a JB (MultiIconMover).
Or placing the apps wherever I want (Anchor).

Removing the pointless homebar, or being able to skip the lock screen.

Also like to remove the dock's blurred background and have more than the 4 apps in there.
Just too many customization options that I would miss and it's too late for me to make the jump to Android.

MultiIconMover is so much easier by simply double tapping to paste it/them where you want.
Oh I know, it was one of the many tweaks I missed when I couldn't jailbreak my 7+.
FYI, VLC got updated today with iPhone X support and support for HEVC 4k videos.
Tried some 4k, Hdr .ts files over the network and they immediately caused a reboot.
Does VLC still only airplay audio and not video to ATV?
Yes.

Random question for people here
When looking at my phone from the top at an angle, i can see light from the screen shining through the ear speaker. I dont want to be nitpicky at all but
I just want to know if everyone else has that or if its a flaw on mine and if anything can slip through that gap (if its even a gap?)

Dam i might rly just be looking too closely tho smh

I see it too but I'm not entirely sure it's not a reflection

I wouldn't worry about it

Could be the part of the screen that wraps underneath the display? Might explain why you can't see it when you went to a darker page.

The increased size of certain UI elements is bothering the hell out of me.

It feels like a lot of the increased screen size is just going towards empty space, and I can't seem to find a way to turn off (or even shrink) things like the top bar in safari, the bar above text entry fields that's just an entire centimeter of nothing, the massive block of gray beneath your keyboard that's completely empty other than a tiny emoji and microphone icon, the navigation bar in safari being twice as large as it needs to be, etc.

They're also almost all white, making night browsing suck and wasting excessive battery life. Is there a way to customize any of this?

Edit: It looks like the top bar is stark white in night mode for so many apps because apple's design guidelines forbid hiding the notch. Some apps seem to make it very dark grey to get around this.

Yea I think they'll improve some

I guess this is more of a iOS thing than iPhone X specific thing, I wish we could screen record with a shortcut to start and stop. My suggestion is long press side button and volume - button on the X. Screen recording is great that even exists at all, but yeah it always ends up showing the recording stop UI and sometimes the recording start UI as well so that gets annoying. Not to mention a hardware shortcut would lend to more impromptu recordings.

That's the hard restart.

Also, in iOS11 can't you add Screen Recording to the quick start (pull down) menu?
Oh I thought that was side button and volume +. Anyway, some shortcut.

You can have screen recording straight on the control center yes, but the action of stopping the recording always gets shown in the recording footage, regardless of you pulling down the control center or tapping the top bar (when not in a full screen app).

The side button and volume up turn the phone off. The side button and volume down do a hard restart. At the very least, you should be able to add an icon to the screen, similar to the digital home button you can add, that turns screen recording on/off.

Side button plus volume + is screenshot
Side button plus volume - is normal shutdown menu
volume + (push and release), volume - (push and release) then holding the side button for a long time is hard restart

Thanks, but you still have to pull the app(s) to the edge to move it/them to the next screen which always annoys me.
MultiIconMover is so much easier by simply double tapping to paste it/them where you want.

No you don't have to move them to the edge of the screen anymore.

You can just swipe with your other hand to the next page while holding the apps you want to move. Like you would when swiping through your home screen.

Based on that and on me trying those out, then quick side button and volume - is the one that seems to be available.

Although, people would get pissed for a bunch of accidental recordings.

Locking the phone with the side button will stop the recording without showing any UI.

Can anyone test it? Especially when lights are low

Doesn't the snapchat camera always look bad since it compressed everything to shit, even before sending it off through the internet? I just tested it and yeah it looks worse than the stock camera app, but since the stock one looks fine I ain't trippin

Android user of 5 years here. Not getting an iPhone X, but I'm getting either a free iPhone 7 or 7 plus through work probably this coming week.

Why the switch? Incoming rant... I've had 5 Android phones in 5 years, all of which had incredible features up front, but all 5 of them had a major issue that required a replacement. Most recently, my Nexus 6P got caught in a widespread issue with the battery. There's been tons of reports on the internet that after a year or more of owning the phone, the battery would start to die early during usage - for example my phone plummets to 0% and dies at over 20% battery, some people reporting it's as bad as at 50%. Needless to say this is a major issue, so much so that there's an ongoing class action lawsuit. Some people got free replacements out of warranty, so I called Google, but they are only replacing phones if they are bought through Google directly. I bought mine through Best Buy, so they require I go through Huawei (the manufacturer) who isn't replacing any phones for free, period.

That's some bullshittery if you ask me. Any time I've had an Apple product where there's a widespread manufacturing defect, I'd get the problem fixed at an Apple store, no charge, no questions asked. As for the Nexus, I'd replace the battery myself but apparently it's almost impossible to replace it yourself due to the way the phone is constructed. Just not something I should have to deal with or want to anymore. I'm done with Android. I know people have their technical problems with iPhones, but 5 phones in a row with a major dealbreaker is nonsense. At this point I'd rather invest in a product that I feel like has better reliability and better customer service.

Thought I'd just share my story

Peel cases. I have one. They don't have clear, but on my silver X i have the silver case. It's basically white opaque. Can see the Apple logo through it.

Won't protect against huge drops, but keeps the back from getting all scratched up.
Thanks. Ordered a dBrand skin. If I don't like it, peel is next.

That's one of the nice benefits of going iPhone, if there's ever any issue you can usually just walk into any Apple Store and get it swapped or fixed on the spot.

The very first iPhone 6S launch batch had a similar battery issue as what you experienced on the Nexus, but Apple swapped out the battery no questions asked and the whole process took only like 30 min (didn't even wait at the store, just walked around the mall).

And before that my launch iPhone 4 had one dead pixel which the Apple Store employee couldn't even see and he took my word for it and simply gave me a whole new unit.

Finally have had my X for a full 24 hours now. Apple leather case and screen protector fitted.

This is such a HUGE upgrade from my ancient 5S.

It's ridiculous to write off Android because of one phone issue you had in five years. Apple has plenty of reliability and customer service problems. See Macbook keyboards. See Macbook exploding batteries and check the history on how long Apple took to acknowledge it, let alone solve it. If you want an iPhone, great. Some people should switch every few years just to see what the other side is about. But don't come with a crusade because you'll get burned eventually, anyway. All these tech companies are user hostile and won't admit fault.

Exactly. My phone should be replaced, it shouldn't matter if I bought it from best buy that's ludicrous

You misread. Five phones in five years. Every single phone has had a major issue. I understand apple has its issues, again something I mentioned in my post, but overall it's been slightly more reliable than the other companies I've dealt with. It's just not worth it for me at this point to deal with another Android manufacturer

Well then, that's really bad luck. Sorry to hear. What were the major issues?
- Samsung Galaxy S3. Samsung's early versions of Android (known as touchwiz) were terrible in my opinion. Performance wasn't the best upfront but performance took a serious hit after using it for many months. I also wasn't really impressed with the plastic build.
- HTC one m7. Sim card tray failed. Replaced with second htc one m7, which had a screen issue and a camera fault.
- htc one 8. Similar battery issues to my most recent phone, except additionally the phone's battery life overall was also abysmal within 8 months. Again performance plummeted badly as well.

It's really a shame because outside the Samsung I really liked every phone. Especially my most recent one. But damn, reliability is number one and that isn't the best track record. I'm sure if I tried Samsung again or lg or something it would be fine, but there's a point where it's hard to keep throwing money at Android

I switched to Apple for similar reasons a decade ago (HP wouldn't fix or replace my laptop with a non-faulty chipset that wouldn't lead to overheating, would only replace it for one with the same defective chipset until the warranty runs out - they lost me forever). I never looked back. Apple went above and beyond to fix things that sometimes were of my own doing, like when my cat chewed my Magsafe charger wire. Not all companies are the same.

Yeah. I guess I shouldn't panic since the stock camera app is really good
