I have no idea if Necrodancer/Cadence of Hyrule is my thing. I enjoy rhythm games & it sounds like a neat concept, but at the same time, I can't help but fear it's not gonna click for me. Granted, I can get it for $3 via PS+, so that might be worth the price of trying it out.

Also gave in & got Blaster Master Zero 2, despite telling myself to just wait for a sale like I did with the first one. Least I can use my 700+ gold coins on Cuphead to bring the price to about $13.

Not sure if this is the best place to put this but why the hell doesn't the NSO service have manuals for the NES games? The little blurb is nice but doesn't say much about the controls or gameplay. Having to google stuff about Startropics and didn't even realize at first there's an inventory/sub menu.

I was personally disappointed by AAC but Nuclear Throne is good -- better than Gungeon, IMO.

What disappointed you if i may ?

On another note, one game i would like to see on switch is Hidden in plain sight, great game to play with friends (gamer or not) , but i think the dev mentionned in 2018 that Nintendo dit not answer favorably or at all.

Put time into a few games I grabbed on sale last night.

- The Missing: JJ something something I forgot the subtitle. Unity engine feels a spotty here as things kind of feel like they are wrestling to stay stable but it's been great so far! Very reminiscent of Inside or similar puzzle platformers, though the use of limbs and environmental threats are very creative early in. I'm digging it a lot.

- Minit: Also digging it. Basically compartmentalizes exploration and discovery into a mechanical loop and it's thrilling chipping away with progress as you find new tools.

- Blaster Master Zero -2: Played the first a lot, even most of the game with done DLC characters. Feels like it improves the imbalance(first was way too easy). Human gunplay is a bit more interesting but the use of counter kind of isn't explained well.

Looking at maybe getting Wizard of Legend, Darkest Dungeon, and Nuclear Throne also on this sale...

Oh thank god, Blaster Master 0 2 allows you to warp back outside from a cave or even better, DIRECTLY BACK TO SOPHIA. This alone is going to help so much, it got rather tedious having to travel back through a cave to exit considering how many there were. Also hearing this one is much tougher, but I'm still in the first area of the game.

I wonder if it'll get a bunch of DLC again like with the last game. Would've been cool if the DLC you got from the first game worked on this one.

Human gunplsy a bit more interesting but the use of counter kind of isn't explained well.
Could've been better explained, but I quickly figured it out. Basically, as a bullet is about to hit you, press X & Jason will do a spin, then you'll see a special cut-in showing that you were successful. Best place to test it out is in the 2nd cave where there's some barrier robot things since their bullets are slow enough to know when to press X. Something else to note is that you can move while doing the dodge, which can help with avoiding enemies.

Seems they also balanced out your weapon/leveling up while playing as Jason in caves, no more just getting a few power-up items for the highest weapon & just obliterating everything.

Be aware that 'SKYHIL' has some bloody and violent scenes. I recommend you to watch some videos, maybe the game is not for you, knowing your personal tastes. I don't have problems with some violence or gory scenes in games, even when I prefer vivid colors, pastel pallets... and 'SKYHILL' made me feel uncomfortable in some sections. Not only for the violence, that is nothing exaggerated compared with other games, but that is present in some scenes. But because the setting is incredibly depressive, with a terrible vision of the humanity and of our future.

All of that said, as a roguelike, it's an incredibly well designed game. Very few elements and mechanics, but all of them masterfully integrated. A brilliant exercise in how to take elements from other games, and use them in an original way through an exercise in minimalism.
Thank you for the warning, I'll look at some gameplay to see if I can handle it. My main issue with violence is more how it's treated -- super stylized violence like in Hotline Miami or Ape Out makes me very uncomfortable, whereas I had no issue with Bloodborne.
What disappointed you if i may ?

I am a big fan of twinstick shooters but I am also very particular about them. AAC is an ugly game, which is fine, but it is also very hard to read from a distance. The game was basically unplayable for me on a TV. I also didn't care for the design of the level arenas, the weapon change button being the same as the roll button is awkward and unnecessary, the different levels blend together too much, and the pacing of the enemy waves just feels off. None of the gameplay mechanics that make the game unique came together in a cohesive, fun way, making the game feel less than the sum of its parts.

FWIW Monolith is my favorite top-down twinstick shooter. I'd love to see a Switch port at some point.

I have no idea if Necrodancer/Cadence of Hyrule is my thing. I enjoy rhythm games & it sounds like a neat concept, but at the same time, I can't help but fear it's not gonna click for me. Granted, I can get it for $3 via PS+, so that might be worth the price of trying it out.
reminder that there's a demo for Necrodancer on the JP eShop (why they never released that globally is beyond me).

Huh, weird that it's only in Japan (& only on Switch), but thank you for letting me know. Was able to find it & got it downloading. Hopefully, there's no language barrier.

Sweet. I'll have to let my friend try it out as well, he's a huge Zelda fan & was absolutely perplexed when I told him "hey, there's gonna be an indie team making a zelda game that's a rhythm based dungeon crawler", but then was super interested when he saw the trailer.

I&F posted a price, but no date:

I almost want to say this is too much, too soon. The way they were talking about it at the reveal in February, I thought this was going to be something late in the year. Now it's bunched up right next to Cuphead and BoxBoy, and I am drowning.

Uhhh something called Junk Planet just released. Japanese developer and looks like Terraria. Does anyone know if this is good? I can't find impressions or reviews online. The travails for it looks great

Ok so I bought Junk Planet aaaaand

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS GAME!!!

I feel ripped off. The game looked pretty on eshop but it's a blurry mess docked with tiles being visible everywhere like they don't quite fit together. The English translation is the WORST I have ever seen in my life.

So bad I did not understand most of the tutorial it's so broken it's not readable tbh.

Does Nintendo have a refund policy? In 2 years and over 209 games I have never asked for one but this is just beyond terrible

Been putting some time into Assault Android Cactus+. Loving every minute of it but stressful when you lose that combo, lol.

I just finished a 30 min session of Infinity Drive, which is basically Survival mode (how many waves can you beat). Died at wave 27, which put me at #22 on the leaderboards! Playing in TV mode with joycons really took a toll on my right hand. It was cramped up but that's my fault because I never paused to take a break, haha.

Here's a 15 second clip during that run:

Many characters to choose from and each are different because of their weapon loadout. I've been enjoying the character you see in the clip because of her secondary, which is a slow ball that passes through enemies and destroys them instantly! Great for when they're lined up.

Great game!

Grabbed some Azure Saga: Pathfinder for Switch footage. I like the visuals. Still not sure of the story.

I've been loving Strikey Sisters, almost done with the extra levels. Are there any other similar games on the platform?

Wandersong is on sale? You guys, don't sleep on this game. It's a very charming side-scrolling adventur/ puzzle-platformer that feels like a Paper Mario in terms of character and story. Also it has lovely art and music.

I was personally disappointed by AAC but Nuclear Throne is good -- better than Gungeon, IMO.

This got my attention. I'm interested in Nuclear Throne as my next rogue-like, as Gungeon's gun-riffic world theme doesn't really appeal to me. What do you like about Nuclear Throne?

I'm right there with you. If you missed it yesterday, keep an eye on Creature in the Well, which seems to scratch both the pinball and Breakout-style itch. IGN did a 10-minute let's play with the dev today, too.

Oh I can't wait. Looks awesome, watched the IGN video earlier. I'd love Shatter, Wizorb, and Siesta Fiesta ports until then!

Or, dare I dream, the GOAT... AlphaBounce DSi!

Pretty impressed with 'Rogue Bit' so far.

I was a bit worried of being a programming puzzle game based in ASCII binary characters, at the end resulting in something super complex.

But it's super easy to understand even if you don't any fucking idea about programming or the internals of compute coding.

Basically, there are two parts in the screen. One with a computer monitor and a labyrinth beautifully represented with ASCII characters, in which you move a character.

And other one, with the binary representation for each character displayed in the monitor.

You can use both parts to move the character (representen in orange) through the labyrinth, and in the left part with the ASCII characters, the obstacles are always represented in a blue color, showing that these are obstacles.

So you don't need to do stupid math calculations.

The Switch port is great.

It has a scanlines option for the display in the monitor, and it uses HD rumble.

A pretty fascinating game, if you are super into old 80s computer games, in the vein of ancient MUDs and roguelikes, and how they simulated complex worlds through mere ASCII characters.

The game I didn't know I needed (or even know existed). Is it only available on the US eShop?

Yup, only available in the US eShop, I used my accumulated US gold coins to pick this.

But all the other (and not so interesting) games by this developer have been released in Europe.

His games sometimes appear before in Europe, and other times in the US, by looking at the release dates in the various eShops.

He simply pulls the trigger when the age ratings are ready for each region.

it says "2019' again now, doesn't mean the date won't prove accurate though

They didn't, I checked my MyNintendo account and had the coins + an entry in my coin history with the notice. It's weird that they didn't let anyone know :P maybe they're planning to notify winners later? But if so why give the coins so soon? :p

Region was NA/US
real question is how many wins did you get over the weekend to qualify?

I've been wanting Wandersong, but $15 still seems a little high given what I've heard about its short run-time. Backlog on Switch doesn't help either :P
