Thanks Japan. Notice there's not one male cosplayer on the stage?

God, I hadn't realised that it'll be at least 6 years of the same Healers now. That's rough.

Are any of them in a spot where they could undergo a Bard style rework to at least make them at least feel more fresh for this expansion?

I feel like AST having the choice of taking a style from each could give WHM and SCH room to be differentiated.

Dancer hopefully will be fun to play based on the limited preview, but was hoping for it to be a healer since I really like that role. Oh well.

The gender locked races don't personally affect me (going to be a boring Hyur for life) but can definitely understand the disappointment and I do think it's a bit lame we don't get to see male viera.

Dancer not being a healer is such a terrible decision and downright upsetting to me. At least we learned Lalafells were truly a mistake today though.

My only disappointment is the no healer thing :(

Besides that I'm still hyped but of course am disappointed and I hope people call Yoshi on the healer issue.

I'm just amazed how they can't acknowledge the neglect toward people who prefer the healer role. Three expansions, and a single new healer in all. Like, are healers just never supposed to be included in the fun new stuff? I guess not.

Dude, healers got done dirty. Two expansions with no healer (unless they have a surprise in store with the hammer thing). I don't play healers but goddamn.

I'm happy we finally have dancer, but I wish it was a healer.
When will we finally get a new one?

I'm just going to count down the days until they realize it was a mistake to do gender-locked races again so we can get some bunny boys and lion girls.

As for dancer, it's disappointing it's yet another DPS but I'm still excited to try it out. I like the idea of support ranged DPS but BRD hurts my hand with how it plays.

I wish that would be the case, but this is Square Enix 2019. They don't listen to their customers or fans. Not even FFXIV is allowed to remain consistently good. They had to fuck it up somehow.

- Sexist gender representation
- Time travel shenanigans
- More DPS

My hype for future content for this game has been totally deflated.

I'm so damn disappointed. Hell, look at the official FFXIV forums about dancer. Everyone is disappointed. We absolutely did not need another dps. It's clear SE hates us healer mains and it is tiring. I'm gonna hope that Yoshi p is teasing something healer related with that "gaia" thing but I doubt it.

Well technically it isn't time travel right? It's world travel? But yeah I'm disappointed. Like, I don't even care about the patch on Tuesday.

I expected nothing and was somehow still disappointed.

There's no way enough people will play Hrothgar to make it worth it. People WANTED manbunnies. Also, no healer is bullshit

Just came back from watching Spiderverse...
So my greatest fear of the last two years is confirmed ;_;
All I wanted was Dancer for healer...
(also the Viera and Hrothgar stuff is really, really dumb)

Did we watch the same trailers? Burly shirtless men with leather strap suspender things and a speedo under a short skirt is pretty textbook male sexualization. The first thing that came to mind was Hrothgar pander to a Bara/Furry type deal.

Hold the fuck on. This game wasn't already pandering before? I don't know about you buddy, but those Hrothgar look pretty sexualized to me. I'm sure the individuals into "bara"would agree.

We're never going to Garlemald, are we?
Based on the pattern so far, we will in 6.0 I think. In 2.X, they introduced the Domans and set up Ilberd's desire to free Ala Mhigo, both of which ultimately set up 4.0. In 3.X, they introduced the Warriors of Darkness and had Minfillia head off to the First, which apparently set up 5.0. Following that pattern, 4.X has apparently been setting up the conflict for 6.0.

More furry than bara. It's like a niche within a niche within a niche who'll find these anthropomorphic characters attractive. It's in no way a male equivalent to what they presented with the female viera.

It used to be an equal opportunity offender.

I was expecting healer, and I think physical ranged is a dumb, dumb decision, but I'm not mad about it. This gives them another crack at making Noct AST viable, and focuses their healer dev time on what they should have done with Shadowbringers: Actually have three viable healers that have different strengths and weaknesses, not just The OP One, The One That Makes Parses Look Good, and The One That Can Whack People With A Really Big Healing Hammer And That's About It, because that third one is always going to be in for a struggle.

I'm only down on physical ranged because they've yet to really handle balancing two jobs fighting for one spot--adding a third makes me wonder how much adjusting we're going to end up seeing as the expansion rolls on, unless they go for the gold and get rid of differentiating between caster DPS and physical ranged DPS and just kill off the 2/2/2/1/1 default raid comp for good.

I wish that would be the case, but this is Square Enix 2019. They don't listen to their customers or fans. Not even FFXIV is allowed to remain consistently good. They had to fuck it up somehow.

My hype for future content for this game has been totally deflated.

Let's be real: 1 and 3 could not be more pandering to a very large chunk of the player base. I know people like to cite how there's not TERA-tier armor in game as proof they don't overly sexualize women, but half the raid gear this tier exposed more flesh on female characters Just Because. The last race they added, Au Ra, had some of the most stereotypical teehee waifu emotes possible, and the most popular gender/race combinations tend to be cat wife and lizard wife. That the bunny race would also be targeting the miqo'te/au ra players is unsurprising. It'll be popular as hell, people will buy fantasias like crazy. The pandering has been in since day 1. Even the giant burly mancats is a sort of roundabout way of trying to appease the vocal fanbase--this is targeted at people who play manroes, who have had no viable swap option ever. They're a smaller audience than people who want to play bunny girls, but there's no way to see the new male race and not immediately think of the group of players it's for.

And adding a new DPS is a 'safe' bet, because almost everyone plays DPS. Even if you main tank or healer, you end up leveling DPS as something to mess around on for fun. We will almost certainly see more dancers leveled in Shadowbringers than we would have if they were healers, because DPS just flat appeals to more people.

The middle thing I have to opt out of mostly because I have long since given up trying to track the story in this game, but I thought we were looking at an isekai situation which is definitely a super popular thing with many people who play these games.

SE doing dumb stuff with the direction they take the game and my disappointment in it aren't new, but I feel like nothing tonight was super shocking or out of step with the way the game's gone since ARR. They know their market and they play to it hard; it kind of sucks to not be in the section of the market they play to, but then they do occasionally do things to target that market too (see:Ultimate) and on balance it stays worth.

I was so looking forward to a new healing Job. It's been way too long, and I might want a new Job to escape to if WHM keeps getting treated badly.

Them not making dancer a healer is about the kindest thing they could do to WHM--they have no idea how to actually balance three healers, and it's always just been SCH And The Other One. If dancer was a shield healer, it'd compete with SCH but likely leave WHM as a distant runner up to AST in all the ways it currently is. If it were a Regen healer, WHM would just risk being shoved further down the bench. Honestly, my guess is their plan for future expansions is new tank OR new healer + DPS as the two jobs, and just never doing tank and healer at once. Somebody had to sit this one out, and if it gives them time to figure out how to make any healer pairing actually play well and feel worth it could pay off in the end.

How Dancer being DPS and Gender Locked Races being reintroduced is being received

Dancer healer would have been cool but it doesn't really upset me or anything, especially because I plan to eventually get every job to cap. And there are only two ranged DPS, so it's not like they added another melee or something.

I think gender locking races is dumb because they already know from previous experience that people will demand the other gender. I get why people are upset about the sexualization and stuff, but that's nothing new for this game, so it didn't really surprise me.

The whole "it's sexist!" Thing drives me up the wall and causes me to roll my eyes back so hard in my head.
The only issue I just see is the healer class, but that's it. I'm just happy we are getting more content, new stuff and things to enjoy. They stated their reasons and I'm sure they will roll out the other side of the genders in due time. Come on now.

Healer is definitely the only thing I'm super disappointed in, I was gearing my current jobs to prepare for that, but since my current main is a BRD... guess ill be fine. Just really hope if they aren't going to do a 4th healer any time they do a bit more differentiate the three they got play style wise. Looks like my next Genesis tome stuff is going to be tank, as I was originally going to be Healer/Aiming but I want to level a new job that is going to be useful at end game, and I refuse to make it a DPS again after the queues I had endure lol.

Aside from that the race thing doesn't bother me much but I understand why it bother others, I doubt I will be changing myself out of Hyur so that content is more of a lore thing, new races = new NPCs = new characters and world to immerse in so with that I kinda like having two races even though I know there is negative with the single gender issue for player characters who want to play them.

The more I think about it though the more I love the angle of the story and location we are going. It initially felt like a side story we are forced to take part in against the garlean invasion, but I also like what this could setup for the actual garlean storyline. Yoshida hinted that the main aspect of the story in bringing darkness is about restoring balance, a world of perpetual light that one of the biggest angles of the story is we might be bringing weather and night time back to the world when we reach its conclusion which is a much larger altering effect then we have had thus far in the world as far as changing your surroundings even if just aesthetically.

I don't understand this logic...

Viera were the most wanted new race by a MILE. And people wanted them ... because of Fran. So that's what they gave us. They gave us a race of bunny ladies that even wear Fran's iconic outfit as race gear. And besides that it's not like they control how you dress them. They don't have stripper dance emotes, infact they seem to take the best emotes and poses from other female races and change them.

So either people got what they wanted (a race of Frans) and are calling them "Sexually objectified" because they literally got the whole package that is Fran (aka gear included) or they're only "Sexually objectified" because there's no males?

reposting.

I definitely called dancer being range physical in my static. I finally get the chance to play an actual support class (bard and machinist barely count).

I can see why healers are upset that they didn't get a new class but to label all dps as just dps is lame when in reality it should be divided as

1) melee
2) physical ranged
3) caster

So far we have 3 tanks, 3 healers, 4 melee, 2 ranged and 3 casters. Adding another range physical just makes sense to me, considering they are near vital in any end game group.

What they need to do in regards to healers is actually give them a healing identity. WHM is just so awful in every way. Not only they aren't as efficient as healing as the other 2 (SCH/AST), they also affect their co-healer negatively.

Either they have to redesign their approach to healers and/or fight design. WHM will never be an actual contender unless they give it "support (raid dps)" which is lazy and bad design in the current raid environment.

I'm looking forward to dancer being an actual support class. Please don't just tack "support (raid dps buffs)" and call it a day.

Also, for those asking about Female Lions.

Who are you trying to fool?
How many of you would even entertain the THOUGHT of playing a female version of this beastly looking race? I say this as someone who has been a Femroe for years in game and still is one.
Our tiny tiny least played race-gender combo group is the ONLY group of people who have shown any interest in playing tall, strong, not-conventionally-attractive females. If anyone should be annoyed it's the Femroe players ... and a decent number of us are gonna jump ship to bunny women cause they're tall and pretty and are not corpse people.

So I don't personally blame them for not doing it. The only way they would get people playing females from a race with animal heads would be to pull what they did last time and make the sexual dimorphism so large that the women are basically as "sexy" as the men are beastly ... cause the weeby culture this game has cultivated isn't interested in it.

Some confusing decisions, but still excited. Just not sure if Tuesday will be enough to keep me until 5.0. Balmung is still locked, so there's no new blood there til world visit, though that might help.

Unsure if I want to give UCoB a crack to finish both ultimates before 5.0 or if I don't want to go through that much time into one fight again.

Really not a fan of Dancer being a ranged DPS (I mean, I might play it now whereas I probably wouldn't if it was a healer, but I wanted DNC to be a healer) and the hrothgar look kinda lame. Like there doesn't seem to be much animation in the faces, looks like they just retextured that lion mask/helmet you can get.

Avant Garde move there

Yeesh. Going to "the first" is cool and I expect the story to be pretty good. I can get over dancer being a ranged DPS but I'm not particularly happy about it, I truly hope there's a new healer this expansion.

I'm furious about the gender-locked races. Given that there was an outcry resulting in them bringing out female Roe and male Miqote with ARR I expect we'll see them in the future, but to do this right out the gate is just horrible. Male viera in particular is something I've been looking forward to since FFXII so for them to do this now is just shit. I kinda don't get the Hrothgar thing at all either, it's probably about to become the least played race in the game lol. At least they're "ronso" on the First.

At the end of the day they just lost a bunch of fantasia sales (including mine) so it's kinda whatever.

Some of the posts people have made on the main forums and reddit are pretty funny, but I'm sorry and do feel bad for anyone disappointed in this. I honestly think they did the genderlock just to save on resources and not for lore or any other reason. They will probably add them later.

It's true and this is why people should pay attention to the seemingly innocuous details in his interviews because he actually says a lot of things that turn out to come true. It's still a bad decision that I really can't agree with, especially with a weak justification like "bunny boys would be weird" and following the male casino bunny costumes fiasco where they dragged their feet for a literal year.

And I say this as someone who doesn't care about the viera race or bunny suits at all and actually likes playing buff dudes.
