LOL. Well the true crossover has arrived. I'm sure he'll be just as powerful as Bayonetta. /s

Shtsh I saw your post on reddit, can't say I feel much differently even though I've played more casually than you. Dx2 is veering straight into pay-to-win territory by removing almost every way to get gacha demons for f2p players. It's frustrating because I love the SMT series and I really like the implementation of it mechanically in this game, but Sega seems content to focus on whales going forwards. I won't stop completely, but I'm lacking the impetus to fuse or improve my demons.

And that crossover will be locked behind a paywall too but f2p will get the shitty banner. The game is entirely pay to win. It's not possible to get diamond 2 without masakado. My main problem with him is occult flash and nothing else. That move is so damn broken.

Nekomata from current banner solves this problem :) Of cause you'll need decent brands with high evade tertiaries.
Currently alternative Nekomata and Persephone are 4* demons who is more useful than most of the 5*.

There are different ways to bypass his movements.
1) Have samrecarms (Alilat + Quetz works for attack, Alilat can have Mahamarin Karin, Quets - Barrier Break)
3) Evade (You'll need decent brands with high evade stat and Antanta with Fog breath)
4) Ailments (Different at the same time, because having only charm is a way to dangerous)
5) Make him go first with you slower double IS team (You must kill him on your turn)

Occult flash costs 7 mana and Masakado is likely to wear life brands. So in the most cases he will cast OF only once, after this he will be dead. And you can predict the target if you have some experience.
For example my main attacking team was (consider the 5-6 star brands with the bonus 70+ percent to the attack).

Trumpeter with 3 auto skills as a replacement for Antanta, Life brands with magic attack.
Teal Masakado (Enduring Soul, Greater Aim), Life brands with accuracy and physical attack.
Purple Rama (Enduring Soul, Butcher) to save Masakado from physical attacks, Life brands with accuracy and magic attack.
Yellow Persephone (War cry, Infernal Mask), Divine brands with evade and HP.

Masakado always attacked Trumpeter if he had mana to cast apocalypse or have concentrate
If trumpeter doesn't have mana, the target is Rama.
Not sure about persephone, because she always casted War Cry on the first round so she didn't have mana.

This team usually lose once or twice in a season and it was enough to get to top 10. I usually replace persephone with Kinmanmon if there is Nergal or Lakshmi in the defense team and with teal Mother Harlot if I want more damage or MP drain (or for one more drain phys if there are Masakado + Huang Di + Support altogether).

LOL. Well the true crossover has arrived. I'm sure he'll be just as powerful as Bayonetta. /s.
Bayonetta (5) and Jeanne (5) were designed soooo poorly. It looks like they hired a part-time student who isn't familiar enough with the game to design them. Their movements animations are nice though.

I quit mostly because grind in the game became really boring and unrewarding for me. My in-game day routine was: wake up, play pvp revenge, auto AG50, auto brands 10/leveling, in couple hours repeat. Add active pvp on Sundays for hour or more before the season ends. And the worst part is there is no real reward for those activities.

Personally I highly dislike the idea of paying to pull from the featured banner and think this is the worst design decision in the game overall.

Yeah, that's totally fair. They've just failed to provide meaningful content compared to a game like Epic Seven. They seem to be trying to maximize profit with minimal investment. How many times do they think people are going to get excited by the same formulaic event banner over and over?

But the bigger problem of course is locking off everything from f2p. Without a chance of getting any of the new demons, there's not too much reason for me to even log in and do my dailies or the events.

Thanks for your analysis but I dont have Masakado, Nekomata, Harlot. I do however have Purple Rama with Butcher/enduring soul and yellow Persephone though she lacks war cry. It's sad that you have to pay though and that is what is making me tired of this game a little bit. My team right now defense is Heca/Rama/Ananta/Di and my attack team is Di/Rama/Heca to make YLK lose press turns and Garuda for fog breath spam. It works well and I always hit diamond 1 but never farther and it's impossible to get top 100.

It's a horrible thing to do. Makes me feel like I should stop supporting this game even as a f2p player.

They are running this game into the ground honestly.

I hope Sega looks at the success of something like Epic Seven and realizes that they need to provide meaningful content along with the gacha experience. And that you can still make a lot of money by supporting F2P players. It's probably too late for this game though; they seem dead set on alienating everyone who isn't whaling.

Got a Aragami version of Yoshitsune from the 5* ticket. Not one of the preferred colors, but I was still really pleased to pull him.

I'm giving this another shot, and I hope to be of use in the Era Faction! Are there any particular demons that I should be shooting for in rerolling?

I'm well aware hero and fiend demons are gatcha exclusive, and that I shouldn't bother even trying to get a 5star DMC character, but I'd like to provide a helpful demon support, and get a fun combo going!

In case it's the best I can hope for, I do have an account loaded already with Yellow Hell Biker, Purple Samael, and Red Zhao-Gongen, with 4 star Dante rounding it out. No real progress, outside of an afternoon's blitz into halfway through chapter 6.

Also, I concur that they really need to clean up their act with the Gatcha nonsense they're pulling, because I want to actually be excited if they start pulling crazy shit with banners in the future, like the Reason Gods from Nocturne, or everybody's favourite Toilet Foot. At least, like Star Ocean Anamnesis, this provides an outlet to create high quality assets, because these demons look GORGEOUS, oh man!

I've been playing this on and off for several months now. Mostly just logging in to check out events and use free summon tickets hoping to get some cool demons. The story battles are a chore to grind through so I haven't gotten far in Aura Gate and I'm only up to Chapter 5.

So anyway, I logged in the other day and got an Absolute Summon ticket for some reason and ended up pulling a purple Metatron. So I figured I might log some more time to get through the later chapters and floors of Aura Gate so I can get to fusing a full team to match this absolute unit. The DMC5 event seemed to give a good amount of exp compared to the story.

Joined the Era faction btw.

The hell is Sega doing? Is the game closing down soon?
  • 5 star drop rates reduced to 0.5%.
  • Featured and trial banner rates reduced to 1%.
  • All of the paid packs will be removed next month (May 16, 2019).
  • No more free superior summon files.
  • Daily rewards changed to 20 stamina, 3000 macca, 300 magnetite, 10 gems.
  • 5☆ Step-up skill extraction rates lowered to 2%, 4%, 7%, 10%.

Yeah it's bad. My friend put in 9 months non stop in it and she finally quit. I may do the same when Aura Gate 2 is proven to be bland content.

Well, the 5 star drop rates are now going to be the same as Japan's rates, so it may signal the servers merging. Or Sega just being Sega.
The other stuff is unexcusably terrible, and I guess it's a sign that they have no regard for f2p players now. Their focus is only on whales.

The game had so much potential, but Sega just never put effort into it. If it wasn't for the SMT demons and battle system they were drawing from, the game would've been dead long ago with how barebones it is from a content perspective.

Yeah I saw these changes yesterday and they didn't look good. May end up being the nail in the coffin for me. My interest was already at all all time low the past month or so. Don't think I even finished the DMC collab stuff.

Wow what the fuck? I uninstalled in frustration about a week ago and started getting back in just now, only to find this?

This is just... baffling. I guess Sega only cares about wringing as much money out of the whales as possible. But even then, there have to be other, better games with far better rates and content out there for people to spend money on, right?

What's extra baffling to me is that they even bothered investing resources in the Bayonetta and DMC collabs when they already knew they were going to do this.

I'm mostly playing Epic Seven these days. It doesn't match the experimentation you can do with this game and the tone is much different than SMT, but it's got great production values, fairly good writing/story, and lots of content. It's night and day in terms of what they invest into the game compared to this game, and at least so far it's still pretty fair for F2P players.

I do wonder if Atlus was running Dx2 directly instead of Sega if it would be any different. It just seems like such an easy win to have a company that does JRPGs create good content for a similar mobile game.

Is it still possible to get Bayonetta in this game? I just downloaded it because I saw it in the App Store. I read that Bayonetta was part of an event or something.

This game is dead in a hole currently l. I rarely play it myself anymore. Locked banners put me off it but hey I guess the 1.5% rates harlot and reapers banner is the only minor improvement they've made for f2p players. ....

Yeah, after the loop of grinding and getting new shit at a snail's pace for events wears out there's not much to keep you going unless you wanna sink hundreds of dollars into overpriced packs for gacha-exclusive summons.

Man, we really need SMT V

The PVP changes killed it for me. I enjoyed doing PVP as my main thing, trying to crawl up the ranks so I could get gems, but now they've nerfed gem output and its painful. Just doesn't feel like I should bother anymore.

I've pretty much stopped doing even the dailies. I just log in, collect some rewards, and I'm done. I guess that's me holding out some hope that they'll reverse course on their anti-f2p tactics, but it's only a sliver of hope. If Sega had invested into the game to make the content rich and interesting, and kept it f2p-friendly, I think they could've had a lot more success, but since they put as little effort into the game as possible on the content side, they see focusing on whales as the only revenue source left for them.

Sooooo, after seeing that they added quite a bit stuff since... last year, I've decided to give this another go. Sadly I lost my old account, but eh, it's fine. I wasn't thaaaat far anyway (Aura Gate Floor 30 beat and somwhere in chapter 5 or 6 I think). I still think the game overall is really good, no matter what people may tell.

For the 5* Free summon I got a purple Seth, which I awakened during the Awakening Tutorial. I am still in the beginning (only made the account yesterday).

One question for those playing on an emulator:
Which one are you using? I am currently using Nox, but while I thought being able to play on the highest settings wouldn't be that much of a problem (this being on a PC and all that) but the game still stutters quite a bit, even on regular speed. I am not sure if that is a problem with Nox or the game though.

Is Aura Gate still as restricted as it is, mainly where it's only accessible at certain hours of the day? I always hated how restricted it was, and I found it to easily be the most enjoyable part of the game. If they ever changed that I might reinstall it, but the rest of it fell into the common gacha traps.

As far as I can tell, it's still the same as before. But I never found it that restrictive. If you are out of action points, well, okay. But aside from that, it's open for 55 minutes and then closed for 5, which is not restrictive at all. xD

I thought it was closed a lot longer than 5 minutes. Like if you weren't on at the right time, you couldn't do it.

Despite how P2W Sega has taken the game, there's some surprisingly F2P-friendly things here:

To celebrate 1.5 year anniversary. From July 11 to Aug 20, all players will be gifted up to 6 5 star demons as presents.
- 5 star Cybele will be added to multi-fusion. Making her the second 5 star since Alilat.
- 3 gacha-only demons (Guan Yu, Mother Harlot, and Daisoujou) are being added to the normal summon pool.
- AI shifter will be added, which allows characters to focus on certain tasks like Attack or Support.
- 1.5 year anniversary free 100 summons will be available from July 22 to Aug 29. Hope everyone can get a 5 star~
- Tenma race return from beyond the grave of the old games with 5 star Indrajit. Bringing the game's first single target multihit with Electric Pierce and 30% to bind. If he kills someone, he get 3 MP back and cast Makarakarn on the party. Sounds totally balanced.
- New Story contents (summer event?) and event with GK Mou-Ryo, Phantom, and Shadow.
- New Aura Gate 2 coming in August, will bring new demons. More info later.
- Certain demons will be able to have their abilities massively increased through a new process called Spirit Merge

Here's the Spirit Merge buffs according to the reddit thread:
Yoshitsune

  1. Rank 1: Phys Acc +15%

Well, I'm glad to know they are at least TRYING to make up for the abhorenttly anti-F2P stuff they've interpreted into the game at this point.

It may be a little too late for me, I wanted to try to get one of the DMC 5 Stars in several rerolls only to be deterred by the Rediculously low sub-1% rate of getting them, but best of wishes of these anniversary bonuses sets anyone up to enjoy the game to it's fullest!

Yeah, I stopped doing the dailies after they took away our daily free summon; I just log in for the rewards. I don't have a lot of hope, but it does seem like they're trying to course correct a bit. Then again, at the same time they they are giving F2P some ways to compete, they are also releasing a pretty broken gacha-only character. So who knows. I'm too much of a sucker for the SMT franchise to not keep one eye on it at least.

Recently started up on this game and really liking it. I usually fall off with mobile games I play after a few days but I'm going to make the effort to try and stick with this one. Praying that SMT5 has animated demons. It's probably weird to mention but I love a lot of the new skill names in this game like Mamari Karinon, Mamakajaon, Mapoismaon etc. I actually didn't know about Mamari Karinon existed till I summoned an Oberon that had it. Strange to touch on but I'm always envious at the SMT/Persona designers getting to brainstorm new demons and create and name the different skills in the games lol

I have to say Sega has really turned things around on the content front. Aura Gate 2 feels like old school SMT dungeon crawling, and the amount of new stories and non-gacha demons they are releasing is a promising direction for the title.

They just released news for version 2.6, and big news on the QoL front is that they're getting rid of brand equip costs! Sega is also releasing several new demons, on top of the OG angels from the currently running event, as well as two new story chapters. Also, Democalypse is coming out of beta with new rewards.

Making Tiamat a 3* was an odd choice though.

I swore off all gacha games because I found I wasn't enjoying them, including this one, but the one thing I did like about this game was Aura gate. Would I stll enjoy this if all I wanted to do was Aura Gate and Aura Gate 2? I might redownload it if so.

Maybe so? AG 2 really has more of that SMT vibe, with NPCs you can talk to, etc. I haven't gotten super far in it, but I don't think the traps are as elaborate as the mainline games. But for what it is it's still a decent experience.

I would also say the current "SMT anniversary" story is kinda cool. It brings back four of the old school SMT angels and has a nice little story on that front. Rather SMT in tone. Probably worth checking that out if you're into the story aspects.

Personally I avoid most of the real gacha areas of the game and avoid pvp, and mostly just tinker with demons and do the pve content.

Can I just say fuck the doggo speak or whatever that every single demon comment section is filled with.
