No? And are these poor ppl the same ones buying the latest iPhone? More about ppl spending beyond their means. You don't need the new hotness if you can't afford it
Okay so you are literally poor shaming, cool.

There's only 1 card I can think of that offers 2%. Hardly a standard. That being said, 1% is wack.
I was being a bit hyperbolic, I guess I can only think of the doublecash and Alliant credit union card. Would have thought other cards would catch up given how popular the citi is.

is this like a poor shaming thread now or something?

friend, pal, buddy, calm. see below -

rewards cards are traditionally very high on interest rates (like 15-20% and above) so this will also be around the same

if you need to carry a balance due to emergencies, you should carry a low apr card, some will even give you 0% interest for 12-15 months.

what the other poster probably tried to say was you'll be paying A LOt in interest if you carry balances on any rewards card

You do know that you can finance your phone through your contract, right? Of course it's not a subsidy, but it does take the sting out of paying full price for an iDevice.
Yes I know that. But like I said there are no subsidies. You get an interest free loan (full amount due immediately if you cancel your service or miss a payment), but you still pay full price

You do know you're wrong, right? Subsidies went away a long time ago. You pay full price. You didn't know that? How old is your device?
Semantics, I mixed up subsidized with finance.
Over a 12-24 month period, financing makes modern phones affordable to most. Even someone making 20k a year can generally afford phones they are 1-2yrs behind on this model.

PayPal keeps sending me emails for their card that is apparently 2%, but i would never trust anything i wouldn't want to lose to PayPal.

Yeah, I don't expect the apr to be much different from other cards. And even if it is, hopefully ppl considering opening this card and holding a balance are doing it with a plan to pay the card off. Also know that there are typically sizeable balance transfer fees so if you're considering opening this card and transferring significant balances to it you should do your math to see what makes the most sense.

Like you said if you're really interested in a card to help you pay off your balance you should open one of the cards that offer 0% apr for a year on new purchases and balance transfers. This apple card is not your answer to paying off your debt

But according to Braainer you should just try not to spend all your money on necessary things like food
OH yeah I'm sure the several ppl in this thread hyping up the low apr are holding out on buying food until this credit card becomes available so they can get that sweet low apr.

don't have enough money
get credit card
spend money on APR instead???
Is this a serious post?
Can you seriously not understand or sympathize with the fact that people sometimes have emergencies that send them to 0, and need temporary/immediate financial relief so they can feed themselves, their family, or get their car fixed so they can actually show up to work?

their email even reads a like a scam "congratulations! you've been selected"
i have it, its through synchrony bank

it drops the cashback on your paypal account. but you cant make payments through the paypal app directly, gotta go through synchrony's shit website, so i dont use it as much. but its not bad, no minimum amount needed to redeem rewards

This isn't exclusive at all; as much as Apple's marketing would like you to believe. It's a cool card, but the perks are unknown/nonexistent and cash back is pretty average. Anyone making $30k a year and has a 700 credit score will get approved, I imagine.

Where's that Apple Card +?

It's actually a better argument, financially speaking, to say no one should pay for the phone in a lump sum if interest free financing is available. No sense tying up your cash when you can use someone else's for free, especially if the penalty for cancelling service is just to pay the balance.

Wow, very interesting move by Apple. Probably their most interesting, ambitious move in quite a while. Will be fascinating to see how this goes for them.

Apple said on stage the interest rates for holding a balance would be "low".

Their website says "Variable APRs range from 13.24% to 24.24% based on creditworthiness. Rates as of March 2019."

Gruber said: ""Those interest rates are usury, right in line with the rest of the credit card industry. 24% interest ought to be criminal, and 13% is not"low"."

I don't think there was anything said about the "exclusivity" of the card.

I don't think the goal is exclusivity... seems more like they'll let anyone qualified get it to increase brand loyalty

What's a standard interest rate on credit cards in the US?

Here in NZ the lowest you can get (a "low rate" credit card, with no perks/rewards) is 13%, with most around the 19-25% mark.

Right but since the loan is interest free, it's actually smarter to buy a phone that way. Also smartphones are basically a necessity in modern life.

Oh no, you both are right; they didn't. But my point is the marketing really tries to sell it as such, anyway - much like an iPhone is a "luxury phone" and green texts are referred to as "poverty bubbles" in iMessage by many. The "titanium card" that costs two cents to make adds to the allure. For a short while, people will absolutely be signing up to be part of a small - but quickly growing - club.

Either way, I couldn't care less. I go wherever the best benefits are.

Not sure it replaces any of my daily drivers but I'll have to look into it. I pay with Apple Pay almost every day.

I have apple pay and have never used it and I have no particular reason why I shouldn't. Once or twice when a chip reader didn't work I forgot I had it. Just old man superstition I guess.

Wtf???

So every credit card in nz is basically a loan shark?

I think it's a different kind of set-up compared to the US. Here, debit cards rule the roost (we've had EFTPOS, which is swipe & PIN and basically an old-school debit card, since the early 1990s), and credit cards are not accepted everywhere (especially small restaurants/merchants). People definitely have them though, especially ones that give you AirPoints (travel rewards).

In the US, do you have credit cards that give you rewards, with interest rates in the single digits?

These are our credit card interest rates: https://www.interest.co.nz/borrowing/credit-cards (look at the right-hand column, Purchases %, in the Mastercard & Visa sections).

So what kind of credit limit would you get with this? And how much are they charging for the physical titanium card because I'm assuming they ain't just gonna send it to you for free.

I wouldn't mind leaving my actual credit card at home and only carrying one of these in my phone wallet just because of the lack of visible numbers and security that requires my interaction. But I bet a lot of places will give you weird looks when you hand them a blank card and you end up having to explain that it's new and they should trust you and just.. uh.. swipe? Does it have a strip? Or is it just a chip? Because a lot of places still don't do chips either. I'd assume it has a magnetic strip. How else you gonna buy gas?
