The real question is, will they show the penis on the statue now that the series is in high def?

See that Public Works Project?

You can go there

Visually I want the Pocket Camp look with the Mario Kart lighting engine. I'd like to see the game world expanded quite a bit with more variety in vegetation and terrain, even if that has to be outside of your town. Hopefully you will be able to switch between items with a BotW scrolling menu and quickly pick things up rather than having that .5sec animation of putting something in your pocket everytime. Small things like that to speed laborious things up and reduce some of the clunkiness of past titles. The big thing I expect is more intricate events that connect players more so that the connected nature of the game can be more important and impactful, especially for players who haven't messed with the online stuff much in previous games. Like make fishing contests have leaderboards or special rotating challenges, or have a holiday centered around visiting another player's town or something. Nintendo's gotten pretty good at making little events to keep people coming back and getting involved so I'm sure they'll have something like that here.

  • No more mortgage bullshit. I pay and I decide how to expand my house.
  • The Sims-esque build mode. Both for house and the outdoors. If we have enough money, we can add as many rooms as we want. Anything we do for the outdoors will be recognized by the game, so no more guest deleting our laid paths.
  • For the love of everything holy, an option to visit strangers. Now with the new parental controls this should be possible. Many of us here don't have friends that own Switches. Meeting new people in the game should be a thing.
  • Create your own furniture. Gather materials and design it, build it. You want a desk with shelves? You do it. Draw the shape on the screen and done!
  • A little AI to the neighbors. They're nothing but annoying dummies right now. Let em remember all the bar or good thing you do for them and your relationship points with them changes with everything you do. You gave hima fruit the other day without him asking? He'll remember how generous you were. Also when they ask for catchphrases, their attitude changes if the word had good or bad meaning. Giving "stupid" catchphrase turns him into a bully. Giving "my God" turns them into a spiritual person. No more Satan worshippers in every village please.
  • Personal points. They should affect people's thoughts on you. Like if you throw garbage at floor, everyone will see you as a sloppy and disrespectful. If you run around The village without any reason, everyone will see you as a sporty person. If you buy lots of art and put it around your house, they'll see you as a artsy person. Their conversation will change accordingly.
  • Bat neighbors

To be disappointed. :(
I'm expecting New Leaf ++ in HD.

Look to similar games and steal from them; Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, Rune Factory, Stardew Valley/Boku no Natsu Yasumi...
To bring a more relevant thought to the discussion; I'll add more daily "grind"
If volume is an issue I'd rather have fewer villagers with more to the depth of writing and reaction.
More verbs/interactions. It's been shovel/net/fishing pole/axe since the beginning and they all basically are used for a single or two interactions. The slingshot didn't add much.
More connectivity.
More events, either scheduled or random
Letter writing hasn't meant anything since Gamecube.

Secretly add the original dungeon crawl concept

The power fluctuation in the reveal was a clue: the game will feature sim city style utility management.

Improve villager interaction. More personality types and each Villager is now a custom mix of bits from each personality type so they are each unique without being unreasonable as an ask. Also more of the types of interactions from the GameCube game

I would be sad if they got rid of the rolling log look. I feel it contributes a lot to the "feel" of the game. I also get why people don't like grass deterioration, but I kind of like it, as it's realistic and shows a natural development to the town. But I think having it be part of the new equivalent of that town rule that prevents flowers from dying would be good for those who are concerned. I also wouldn't mind other "natural" developments of the town that are similar to that effect, if less impactful to the aesthetics for folks that are into it for that.

I honestly don't know what to expect. It's been so long since the last mainline entry, I feel like there are going to be some substantial changes. But I don't know what.

If you had asked me a year ago, I would have guessed that there would be a bit of an art style change. But based on the Smash Isabelle trailer with Tom Nook, I'm now guessing that's not the case.

I didn't play amiibo Festival, but I did download the Animal Crossing Plaza that released on Wii U for free and thought that was pretty. (Maybe my memory is leading me astray.) I'd be happy with that level of graphics.

I know that Happy Home Designer added some QOL improvements, so I'm hoping those get implemented.

Beyond that, I don't have many expectations. I'll be playing the game as a solo experience, so anything they can add to make that experience better would be appreciated. I like to play the game as a quaint and calming escape, so keep enabling that, Nintendo.

Oh, and a soundtrack with tracks like 7 PM would be awesome, too.

A dream addition for me would be to get the Nintendo themed items through a new box who'd give them as a reward for playing Nintendo themed mini games (think something akin to 8 volts games in warioware) instead of the fortune cookies. Additionally there'd be a new museum section dedicated to such items

I'm honestly expecting a pretty conservative approach to the general design. They could port the 3DS game to the Switch and it would sell a ton. I'm not expecting any huge changes which (if correct) would be disappointing to me. I'd really like this game to take a page or 40 from the Stardew Valley playbook.

I am hoping for more activities to do and everything on a larger scale (town, more shops, increase villager limit, a city, etc...).

The public work projects unlock requirement were too random so I hope it's more accessible this time. The Pocket Camp amenities and fortune cookie items are really adorable especially with how the villagers interact with the items so looking forward to that sort of interactive furniture.

There's so many other things on my wish list but at the same time keeping my expectations realistic. Can't wait for the first trailer, hope we get something at E3.

I'll be very disappointed if nothing is done about my second request: preventing new houses from springing up over my carefully laid paths. I blocked and zoned as elegantly as I could in New Leaf but ran out of PWPs to enforce this level of control. This is a game-ending issue until the intruder moves out (and you can't do much to accelerate that either).
.

In ACNL, one of the later updates made it so that villagers no longer move in on squares that have paths laid down on unless there is no other available space.

I have extremely low expectations. That is, it'll be the same as all the others plus a new dumb feature, like haircuts.

Yeah yeah, sometimes they do better, but it's the same thing over and over, and it'll never blow me away like the very first time.
I'm going to get it, I'm going to love it for a week, but the more new changes they can make, the more they can develop this game beyond the core concept, the more excited I will be.

And as I say I have low expectations, I'm still really excited.

The power fluctuation in the reveal was a clue: the game will feature sim city style utility management.

You have no idea how badly I want this.

No need to stop at SimCity, either. It's 2019, and Factorio-style uranium enrichment and nuclear reactor heat-sink management are right there.

In ACNL, one of the later updates made it so that villagers no longer move in on squares that have paths laid down on unless there is no other available space.

Oh, I wasn't aware of that; I've booted the game exactly once since the Welcome Amiibo update, so pretty much everything that came to New Leaf with that and afterwards is news to me. Unfortunately, the one critical interloper who wrecked my whole layout is still there. We are not friends.

Online play in New Leaf (the most recent main title in the series) was downright awful. It would take around 2 minutes for you to go online, cause the game needs to connect to the internet, search, hide loading time behind animations, save your progress, then save again, and save one more time. It was a pain in the ass.

Uhhh... what? My friends and I loved New Leaf. We could text each other in real time in the game. Visiting each other was fun.

I've only played the Gamecube one and CF, so I'm not really sure what my expectations are.

That being said, something I'd like to see (but know I won't) would be a way to unlock old music tracks from past games and customize what songs play hourly. For instance, I can have 1 PM from WW, but then 2 PM from CF, 3 PM AC Switch, etc.

I'm hoping for a bit of a shake up in its formula, honestly. Have the game be Animal Crossing and maintain what makes it AC, but also evolve the series. They've been doing that a lot with their franchises lately like Zelda with BoTW and Mario with Odyssey. It's Animal Crossing's turn now.

-Bigger city with more shops to explore to put those hard earned Bells to use
-More upgrades to your house(s)
-A bigger world to explore in general
-More collectibles!

The series has so much potential, so I really hope they expand on everything.

more, of everything, basically.

i will love to have way improved customization options compared to new leaf in terms of clothing (a better clothing editor with more resolution) and furniture, plus being able to customize spaces like in Happy Home Designer.

but yeah, i just need it already, my most hyped game of 2019 besides astral chain.

I want to see more variation in the environment. We've regressed since the original N64 release. Maybe the option to expand the bounds of the town, kind of like in Cities Skylines where you choose a block to expand to.

Free camera at least outside.
Updated look.
Expansive and Customizable town.
New explorable areas outside of the town like the City.
The Mayor job was an interesting change, how about adding more jobs.

If this game is just incremental changes and a graphics bump like a lot of the ACs are, I'll probably try Stardew instead.

I would like some kind of "urban planning" feature for my town. At the very least, I want to choose where exactly my villagers can build their house so that they don't randomly vaporize my flowers without my permission. It would also be cool if bells could be spent on creating road/sidewalk networks of various pavement and surface types. Making the town look really fancy is a nice goal to work towards after fully upgrading to a mansion.

Since NES games aren't individually available for purchase anymore, maybe we could get them back as super rare items?

I hope they expand certain things (give every shop keeper a home in the village you can visit when they like you enough), go back to basics on certain things (more daily events with weird hours like the ghost from the original game), and either lower the bell amounts needed for non-house payments or make getting bells easier. It was not fun milking the island for bugs in the last game anytime I wanted to pay something off.

Visually I expect nothing special. But gameplay wise I expect a lot of changes, especially multiplayer and online. The dev team did a great job with Splatoon 2 imo so I'm very excited.

No camera controls, even though I think it would be nice and could work well.

I only want two things of it, and I know I'm not getting them:
  1. A return to the simple but cute aesthetic of the N64/Cube game.
  2. Emulated NES or Classic games as furniture.

I'm expecting to get talked into buying it again somehow, playing for maybe 2-3 months, then never touching it again, just like the previous games in the series.

I predict AC Switch will look shockingly similar to Pocket Camp but with the soft lighting from the AC Plaza app from the WiiU.

Expectations? New Leaf with a resolution bump.

Hopes? Greater camera control, visuals on par with MK8, some kind of clever "adventure" mechanic that you can do on the side (not unlike caving in Stardew)

Fears? Pocket Camp influence.

I'd love it if there was some sort of offline coop/multiplayer so that my wife and I could play it without having to buy two consoles and games

Not a lot to be honest.

And that's not to say it won't be a good Animal Crossing game. I just think they won't go full BOTW with it and change tons or create some sort of new masterpiece of the genre.

It'll be Animal Crossing in good and in bad.

I'm expecting it'll be more iterative like Pokémon than something like BOTW or odyssey. I also think the graphics will end up disappointing those expecting a big jump.

I just hope we see it sooner rather than later, feels like forever since we've had a new AC let alone a proper console version.

I think you need to wind your expectations right back.
