I've been a Nintendo fan for a long time. My first console was a Genesis, but it belonged to the family as a whole. I eventually bought an NES at a garage sale with my own money and got a Gameboy Color that Christmas. Like many my first Nintendo franchise was Super Mario, but it was Link to the Past/Link's Awakening and Pokemon Blue/Yellow that really made me fall in love.

Nowadays I am loving my Switch and the amazing games Nintendo have released for it and there are still so many of their great franchises to come. Metroid Prime 4, the next mainline Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion 3, some kind of Mario RPG, Donkey Kong, etc.

I'm so N with this thread. Nintendo has defined my free time for over 20 years, and the Switch now has a stranglehold that's choking out many other lesser hobbies of mine.

What a glorious new era we're in! Can't wait to see where they take us in 2018 and beyond.

What's a ARMS Party Crash?
It's sort of like the ARMS version of a Splatfest. For a 48 hour period, 2 characters are pitted against each other - though you can choose whichever character you would like. The amount of points you earn as either of the selected characters goes toward a global total, and as you play you level up similar to a Splatfest Rank. Every other 5 minutes there is an additional ruleset that grants another 2x or 3x bonus to the points you need to level up - things like "first hit wins" or "Rush fills near-instantly". Every 5 minutes the game encourages you to choose either of 2 specific ARMS by providing you additional bonuses for using them as well. At the end, you get badges and 50 x your level in coins, so you can get tons of money quite easily. It's a great event for encouraging people to get online and play. You get to play as a character you may not have necessarily played much of before and experiment with new ARMS in a fun setting.

Love me some Nintendo goods, a bit less than I used to though. While the Switch is only on the market for less than a year, it makes me wonder what Nintendo has in store for their tenth console.

Pokemon Colosseum is the greatest JRPG of all time.

Double Dash is second only to 8, but surpasses it in charm and OST.

Those are some hot takes alright.

I wouldn't call them "hot takes", just them expressing how they feel. Double Dash may not be the best mechanically but it sure does have a lot of charm.

Really excited to see what Nintendo has in store for Switch next year. That console has really brought back a lot of my lapsed or more casual gaming friends.

Smash Switch when?

but seriously, this is such a great time to be a Nintendo fan - we just keep on getting these awesome reveals! Meanwhile, my Switch backlog continues to grow as a I neglect everything for BotW.

Bruh, I need my fudgin' Smash on Switch. I can't wait to use the Switch Pro as my new Smash controller. I love GC Pads, but as a competitive player, they tend to not be the most ergonomic and I think Switch Pro is gonna be a great Smash controller.

I feel a bit out of place sometimes as I am not really a fan of Smash or Splatoon. Though MP competitive games are generally notr my cup of tea.
After a great 2017, I'm fine taking a back seat next year for Smash fans to get their fix, but I am always very much someone who appreciates Nintendo's SP output.

Hoping for exciting new announcements in 2018.

That's really reassuring to hear! I haven't bought a pro controller yet (although I almost got the XC2 one) and have been holding it off in hopes that they will release a special Smash edition to coincide with the release of the game.

Smash is really the number one title that I'm anticipating on Switch right now. I know that they need time to perfect things, especially if it'll be more than just as Wii U port/enhancement, but !! I need to play Smash on Switch! It's such a perfect platform for it, too. Just picturing myself getting to put in some training between classes or during commute gets me excited.

I need a Switch before my Wii U gets totally burnt, dammit

Also, watching thread.

Just dropping by to give Nintendo's best underappreciated franchise, Advance Wars, some love. It has three fantastic entries, (didn't care for Days of Ruin) a wonderful cast of characters and some of Nintendo's best music.

Here's hoping some of Intelligent System's Fire Emblem money gets pumped into an AW for Switch! Heck, I'd even take a Fire Emblem Heroes esque Mobile title - just skip the Gacha this time around.

Yeah, dude. Playing Smash on the go with something that's much better in the hands than a 3DS will be sweet.

KID ICARUS UPRISING!!
kid-icarus-uprising-194521.10.jpg

Like this here is one of the most unique games ive ever played . it merges On-rails Shooter segments with hack-and Slash/Third Person shooter elements.
It has a very addicting story mode with many unique and amazing characters along that have a great voice cast (imo)
The story is a amazing Train Ride from beginning to end with so many plot twists its just crazy.
This isnt even getting into how it expertly handles its difficulty system via risk/reward betting to up the difficulty by betting hearts(the game's currency) in an attempt to get more treasures and stronger weapons from the level while risking losing said hearts bet if you die.

I havent even mentioned how cool the weapons merging is . you can get so many unique combinations of weapons depending on what you merge along with different perks that come from them. There are also (i think about 9) many classes of weapons to chose from ,all with different play styles that allow the gameplay to keep fresh.

There is also cool multiplayer modes also ,i didnt play it as much so i cant really get too deep into it.
And the graphics are very top notch for a 3DS game ,still one of the bestest looking games on the system

I really hope Nintendo chooses to remaster this game on switch ,it really deserves the big screen and a control scheme that doesnt turn-off persons who dont like it. (also itd be nice to get a sequel too :P)

Great write up - you put in a bit more effort than I did! But you've made me want to give Uprising another playthrough. Played it twice before but it's a fantastic game that fuses action packed gameplay with a cheesy romp of a story brilliantly. I'd love to see Kid Icarus on Switch too but I'm hoping a sequel is on the cards.

Sadly, I think the franchise is dead...

I'd gladly back a spiritual successor or something on kickstarter.

What's a ARMS Party Crash?
Splatfest-esque event for ARMS. Party Mode changes into Party Crash, and the fights have a specific theme for five to ten minutes. Some themes include infinite rushes, one hit KOs, all Headlok battles, only 1v1 etc. Every fifteen minutes there is a special multiplier round where you get double or triple the experience for your Lab Level, which determines what prizes you get at the end of the Party Crash. Other ways to raise your lab level include using the highlighted arms and featured characters. This time it's Ninjara vs. Min Min, so if you use one of those plus whatever the featured arms is, you get more experience to raise your Lab Level. Every five levels gives you a unique badge, and you get 50 coins X your level at the end of the Party Crash. So if you get to level 10, you get two badges based on either Ninjara/Min Min plus 500 coins when the event ends.

It's probably the easiest way to earn coins and the actual event is pretty fun since the themes and featured arms change up frequently. Even if you play for 30 minutes, you will have seen a few mixups. I definitely recommend trying it out a bit even if you haven't picked up ARMS in a while.

The Nintendo 64 was what turned me into an actual gamer, and in turn a hardcore Nintendo fan. (I own stock!) Via rentals, I think I've played about half of its library. Here is a list of the inarguably good exclusive games on the system that I've played:

1080° Snowboarding
Banjo-Kazooie
Banjo-Tooie
Beetle Adventure Racing
Blast Corps
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Diddy Kong Racing
Donkey Kong 64
F-Zero X
GoldenEye 007
Harvest Moon 64
Mario Kart 64
Mario Party
Mario Party 2
Paper Mario
Perfect Dark
Pokémon Snap
Pokémon Stadium
Pokémon Stadium 2
Robotron 64
Star Fox 64 (The first game I played on the system, and the first game I ever loved)
Super Smash Bros.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Wave Race 64

That's 25 games right there...so much for the "it only has Mario, GoldenEye, and Zelda!" crowd. :P Now let's add in the inarguably good non-exclusives that I've played:

Cruis'n USA
Hydro Thunder
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2
Star Wars Episode I: Racer
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
Worms Armageddon

Another 8...now for the arguably good games I've played:

Bomberman 64
Destruction Derby 64
Extreme-G
Extreme-G 2
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
Mario Party 3
San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Top Gear Rally
WWF Attitude (also WWF War Zone, but it's almost the same game, and Attitude is better)

Just like that, we're at 45! Now for games that I have mixed feelings about, but are worth looking at:

AeroGauge
Army Men: Sarge's Heroes
Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2
Gex 64: Enter the Gecko
Mario Golf
Mission: Impossible
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero
Spider-Man
Star Wars: Episode I Battle for Naboo
The World Is Not Enough

And finally, games that either I don't like or haven't played, but have definite high acclaim:

Excitebike 64
Mario Tennis
Mischief Makers
Pokémon Puzzle League
Resident Evil 2
San Francisco Rush 2049
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Super Mario 64
WWF No Mercy

64 legit games! So much for the "it's just Nintendo, Rareware, and kiddy platformers!" crowd! And that's not even counting popular games I don't know enough about like Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Yoshi's Story, or cult favorites such as the Goemon games, the Snowboard Kids games, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, Jet Force Gemini, Pilotwings 64, and Space Station Silicon Valley.

People give the Nintendo 64 so much flak compared to the PS1 for not having JRPGs, oodles of grimdark and dudebro games, CD-quality music, and FMVs, but when you have a system with so many genre-defining games, so many all-time classic multiplayer party games, no loading times, and a surprisingly deep and varied catalogue as seen above, all that smack talk just slides right off.

Oh, and lets not forget it did the analog stick first, rumble first, and had six controller colours right out of the gate! :D

I have been pretty much Nintendo exclusive my whole life, only console I have ever owned outside the Big N was a Playstation 2 to play Persona 4 and it was stolen a week after I bought it.

I guess wants me to be a Nintendo purist.

Anyway, maybe ONE DAY we will have the blessing of a Mother 3 localization.

And heh, yeah, fortunately I have time to spare, but I imagine once I get more busy with my life having a device I can play in handheld mode or tabletop will come in handy to pass the time.

Long time Nintendo fan here since the NES. They started losing me during the end of the Wii, and the Wii U was the first Nintendo system I didn't get at launch (I got it a couple months before smash Bros came out).

Post Mario Maker things seemed so dire. I didn't want to even touch the Wii U and barely anything came out.

I was pretty hesitant on the switch until more Zelda info came out. Then I knew I had to have it.

Switch has been my most played system by far. I think I have something like 150 hours in Zelda, 80 in splatoon and 60 some in Mario.

Along with a bunch of hours in other games. I've put a ton of time into the system and I don't see that slowing down.

Now it's my PS4 that sits there. I'm slowly making my way through assassins creed but after 1-2 missions I jump back to the switch. It's what I've always wanted: my games everywhere all the time.

I don't own any other consoles and I haven't built a gaming PC in 20 years.

I don't even think of myself as a "gamer" but rather just a man who loves playing Nintendo with his 6 year old son, thereby sharing something with him that was very important/influential for me at his age.

Nintendo are kind of exactly what the world needs at this moment. Their games have a tendency to remind even the most cynical/defeated among us of the fact that happy/joyous experiences are still a possibility in play.

Great OT!

Nice OT!

Do we have a 3DS OT?

I'll post my question here, for now:

I'm thinking about picking up Rhythm Heaven Megamix while it's on sale, but I played the demo and I wasn't impressed. See, I've played the original GBA game a lot, and the DS game, AND the Wii game. I'm just not sure I want a game of mostly recycled content I've played through plenty.

I'm also really keen on picking up Metroid 2 but I ALSO want Majora's Mask and I have enough gold coins to get the 40% off discount from MyNintendo. And THAT's expiring in January.

And then there's the rest of my 3DS wishlist:

Fire Emblem Echoes
Fantasy Life
Mario & Luigi SSS
Kirby Robobot
SMT4-A (though I'm skipping this sale for now)

Problem is I also have a new Switch and games on that WL and it's hard going back to the 3DS.

Personally, unless it is a very good discount, I'm skipping new 3DS games to focus on my Wii U and 3DS backlog plus new Switch games. I haven't purchased any new games apart from Odyssey, since there's no way I can play them all. This year was insane for the Switch.

Can't live without Nintendo.

Yeah, I have my 3DS still but Im probably gonna Bank my mons, maybe try to get to Samus Returns, then bench it. Ill always have those other games to go back to if I get bored. Plus with the expansion of the 2DS line, youll always find 3DS games.

From this list I played Echoes, Robobot and SMT4A. I would say Robobot is the better game, but also the shortest. Echoes was good, but the NES map design annoys some people and SMT4A had meh story and characters to me, even though it started very strong and slowly went downhill. Maybe go with Majora's if you never played it?

I am a Nintendo only player.

Is Anyone here like me?
I'm not made of money, so I always just stick to Nintendo platforms as these offer me the stuff I want (I like platformers, RPGs and japanese games in general - dislike AAA games). I had a good PC, but played few games on it and when the graphic cards died I never got a new one. If I want to play something on other systems, I just borrow from my friends.

I have an unexplainable attachment to the GC and GBA. Even though they don't have my favorite console or handheld libraries (they both have a lot of cool games though).

Maybe because GBA was like a 16bit renaissance, and the GC... well the OS was charming (dat bootup), and Animal Crossing was chill AF.

Having played the first four in you wishlist, I'd heartily recommend all of them for different reasons.

Echoes is great if you love classic style FE characters and story. The presentation is top notch with beautiful music and a sleek UI. Gameplay borrows too much from the NES original and is thus clunky in places but still can be a lot of fun and a nice change of pace from the usual formula.

Fantasy Life on the other hand has a pretty boring story and meh characters but is really addictive gameplay wise with large areas to explore, a fun if simple combat system and lots of jobs to take on. Music is composed by Nobuo Uematsu of Final Fantasy fame and is fantastic.

Superstar Saga was my first Mario and Luigi RPG and it was a real fun romp through a very different Mushroom Kingdom. The battle system is very easy to get to grips with and a lot of fun to mess around with.

Robobot is my favourite Kirby game and is generally considered by the fanbase to be one of the best in the series. It uses the Triple Deluxe formula but improves EVERYTHING. The new powers are dope and the music is real nice. Out of the lot, I'd recommend this one the most.
