11.1 beta 5 feels damn good, battery is great too. I'll probably get off the beta on both phone and tablet when the gold release is out.

Since this problem relates to Safari 11 on both the Mac and iOS, I'll post it here (I originally posted this in the programming thread):

Why does this code not work anymore? It used to work just fine in previous versions of Safari and iOS but not in the most recent ones. The problem is all of the unread urls that should open in "window.open" inside the for loop don't. Only the first one opens. I've done enough checks to know that the for loop is working correctly and the array of URLs is correct, so I know it is just window.open() that fails. Did something change with Javascript or with the Safari browsers to prevent window.open() from now working in a for loop correctly?

Here's the code I have saved as a bookmarklet.

Code:
javascript:
var SITE = location.host;
if(SITE=="www.resetera.com"){
    var arr = [], l = document.links;
    for(var i=0; i<l.length; i++) {
        if(l[i].href.indexOf("/unread") !== -1)
            arr.push(l[i].href);
    }

    for ( var i = 0; i < arr.length; i++) {
        window.open(arr[i]);
     }

}

Is anyone else having issues with their iPhone 6s only using half of it's CPU power when under 75% battery? It's driving me nuts

I'm on 11.1 beta 5 btw

What are your best battery tips? I'm on a 6 plus and my battery doesn't last long.

I have a 6s and getting through the day since iOS 11, I of course instantly put my phone on low power mode but also turn off cellular except when I really need to use the internet on my phone. Cellular downloading kills battery way more than wi-fi. I also listen to music a lot so when walking around with my AirPods, I listen to stuff that's downloaded on my Apple Watch because my phone can't handle streaming so much anymore.

I never stream. I also can't afford to turn off cellular data for the chance that my Mom, Dad or, Brother calls me. I changed some of my location sharing to try to cut back on battery but hasn't helped. I might have to start using low power mode, though.

Alright. I think I'll wait till there's an official iOS OT.
Hey, I asked a very specific JavaScript coding question about how bookmarklets work in this thread. Surely your specific question would probably be ok!

Also, I really like the Siri Apple TV remote. I've not had any of the problems most people seem to have with it.

Well. Took my macbook to the Apple store and apparently they're back ordered for my battery replacement on a 2012 mbp. So they're going to replace it at no cost mid-november. I'll take 200$!

I think it's fine for this thread to be a catch-all hardware and software discussion. This way questions are more likely to get answers and a lot of us use Macs, iPhones and iPads anyway. It's not like outside of hype threads the previous separate OTs got that much daily traffic either.

Did the same thing the other day with my 2012 MBP battery. I'll wait a couple of weeks for a free battery.

i upgraded my 6s to ios11 last week and regretted it instantly. so bad. will buy the 8 (have no interest in the X really) in a fortnight or so, looking forward to it. probably need a new macbook soon as well (have a 2012 MBA which is my primary computer), although the australian retail price/s now are insanity...

It's really bad as far as battery life is concerned but everything else about iOS 11 is great to me.

Yeah iOS11 is riddled with inconsistencies which irk me continuously but on the whole I'm a fan (or at least will be when iCloud Messages and Apple Pay Cash are finally implemented.)

Hey all!

So timing sucked for me.... I had plan to keep chugging along with my 32GB 6+ for another year (had it since launch) and on Thursday it started having that unresponsive screen glitch where it flickers from the top down. So obviously my Apple care is expired and they want me to get a new one.

I decided to buy an unlocked 8+ 256GB yesterday. I have 13 days to return it, and I wanted to know how realistic it would be to walk into an Apple Store and leave with an unlocked X in the first week or so?

Thanks

There is just not enough manufacturing supply at a reasonable fail rate for OLED to work as a laptop or Tablet standard. Every laptop that has shipped with OLED to date on the PC side has basically just been limited edition or BTO, and in many cases they are no longer sold.

Simply put there is too much demand for phones so why push that demand to devices that sell a lot less and have a much lower margin?

If we see some new major players in the OLED space then I would expect things to change.

Going from a series 0 watch to a series 3 has been nothing but a great upgrade. Glad I decided to do it. All the new features, the gps, water resistance, altimeter, all work great. The extra battery life is nice to have, but the speed difference is the best part. Using apps now, for the first time since the loading times on the 0 were just to big. For example, having Authy on my watch is just wonderful, quick access to 2fa codes is just perfect.

It also seems to be more accurate in tracking my walks, certainly seems to report a higher active calorie count compared to my old watch.

My 6s+ battery barely makes it 5 hours. I found out I can upgrade to an 8+ for like $13/mo if I trade in my 6s+ to sprint. This also allows me to upgrade again in 12 months. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this instead of just buying a new battery for my current phone, but idk. iOS11 runs great minus the battery life so no reason to upgrade other than that

Not a fan of a single Apple thread.

Apple Music
Apple TV/iTunes
macOS
iOS
iPad
Watch

either things will move too fast or things will be ignored due to clutter.

just MHO.

It also looks like the iOS 11.2 beta came out. iOS 11.1 should be coming out today then, right?

Yasss, can't wait for 11.1 stable. And tvOS 11.2 sounds great but should've been what it shipped on to begin with.

who cares what should've? It's there and pretty much establishes it as the best streaming box out (with an asterisk over atmos.. however NO box does HDR10, Dolby Vision, Atmos, AND 24/60Hz on all HDR all combined. every box seems to be missing one of those bullet points)

Just to confirm: if I'm on 11.1 beta 5 and get off the beta, I'll be able to update to 11.1 stable when it's released, right?

correct. the profile just says you are allowed to download/install the betas. It isn't required to actually run them. 11.1 release supersedes 11.1 beta so you can install it.

I can't wait until the X is out and we can start getting some more news on the December products. Been needing to replace an old Mac Pro for a long time and I really want an iMac Pro. That said though I really want more info on stuff like pricing options for the different skis and exact benchmarks so I can make an informed decision on what exactly I want in the BTO. Info on a lot of parts has (mostly) been super scarce these last few months though...

lol come on. Them "squeezing" SDR content in HDR color space and ignoring native framerate is just plain bad and an absolute no-go for most of the crowd that spends 200 bucks on a streaming box.
I don't even care much about it personally but at the very least they should've shipped with the option to display the content as intended. Could've easily avoided the bad press this caused.

I don't really get why its worth arguing over when they're adding it and making good on it

Based on those notes the only thing it doesn't switch automatically is resolution, so it'll still scale everything to 4K on its own. But honestly I'm cool with that, framrate and color space were way more important

exactly my point. "should've shipped with it" is a pointless dig. It's here, the world won't care about the 6-8 weeks (for release) that it wasn't here.

literally cannot wait to get home. Sadly I don't know how to verify what refresh rate my TV is at, and my AVR doesn't support HDMI2 so I can't run it through my receiver and use that info screen.

edit - resolution "should" be moot. 1080p to 4K is 2:1. also curious how stuff like YouTube will work where they have 25fps videos and such. (or 30fps TV video, etc). I do have some legit SD video (movies in iTunes that don't have HD versions).
