Loved the pokemon in the wild change but got incredibly bored with the catching. Called it quits after 5 gym badges I think, couldn't do it anymore. Was also rather frustrating using berries and getting excellent throws 99% of the time but it still taking an insane amount of balls just to catch a simple pokemon, which you had to do to level.

It got me to pick up Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, which shortly afterwards got delisted from the PSN Stores.

So for letting my play Cyber Sleuth I can say that let's not an entire trash fire and a waste of everyones time, because had not been a completely unneeded and the first mainline series I ever passed on. It pushed me towards to a great game I wouldn't have gotten around to otherwise.

I didn't really like it. My impression is that it didn't bring new players into the fold, and it didn't really further the franchise in any way. In the end, I thought it was an ok game, good for those that just want to ride on nostalgia, but ultimately a waste.

Honestly my time replaying Pokemon Yellow on the 3DS was more fun than Let's Go. I enjoyed it but it's a bit of a sterile remake. It ignored too many of the advancements the series has made over time and has a mostly unappealing art style, so yeah I can see why you think it's monotonously repetitive.

My favorite Pokemon game from Game Freak. Loved the overworld Pokemon, quality of life features, and the amazingly orchestrated OST. Takes me straight back to the anime I grew up on.

Absolutely hated it. Annoyingly slow. Pretends to be a sequel but quite literally reuses the same dialogue and story beats. Frame rate drops to the 20s in places where it absolutely shouldn't. Quite really no reason at all to play it when GBA games exist from 10+ years ago with more content

Dumped it after about six hours. I didn't like the capture system at all. I didn't like how slow and dull the battles are. I really didn't like the artstyle. I think the main issue, though, is that despite adoring Kanto...I feel like I'd seen this all before. It's far too sterile of a remake to feel fresh again (imo).

It honestly felt like a watered-down version of the original Game Boy Yellow, which I had so much more fun playing through on the 3DS. I'd never recommend Let's Go when original Yellow and the far superior Gen 1 remakes (FireRed/LeafGreen) exist.

I didnt like it. Took whatever depth there was out of pokemon battling, with held items and abilities removed.
Chibi art style is atrocious. Removal of wild battles also sucks.
And Kanto is probably the blandest region in the series.

I had fun at first but the game started getting boring after the 4th badge. Kanto region is dry as hell...

I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did.

And I REALLY wasn't expecting it to look better than what GF is going to release this year.

I personally loved it. I suppose it reflects how I play games now and what I want out of them, but I really appreciated how extraordinarily respectful of your time it was in comparison to nearly every other Pokemon game, especially in the end game which does require a bit of grind to raise good pokemon to defeat the 151 masters.

The funny thing is I agree that the main game was a bit too easy, and that I'm usually the sort that prefers games (especially RPGs) to be on the harder side. But I can't deny I loved the couple of weeks I spent playing this during my daily commute.

I caught all the Pokemon available in the Eevee version (outside of Mew/Meltan). I sought out and defeated all the trainers up to Red. This is the closest I've ever come to "100%"ing a Pokemon game and that reflects how much I enjoyed it.

If they keep up this formula, I'll be on board. On the other hand, I doubt I'm on board at all for Sword/Shield. I don't think they should just pick one though. I hope there's a market for both styles.

Still slowly working my way through it, but I'm having fun. It had been nearly 15 years since I played a Pokémon game though, so what felt fresh to me might have been stale to fans following the series.

The newer games intimidate me. The strategy seems deeper, which is great if you're into that, but I honestly just want Rock Paper Scissors

I thought it served its purpose very well. A way to entice PKGO players to pick up the Switch and introduce them to console gaming.

From XY onwards the games are still reaaaalllllyyy easy, at least for the main campaign.
There's not much strategy other than hitting something with a super effective move. Playing online is a different story though and actually makes use of Gamefreaks effort and work put into the delicate battle system, but yeah, its surprising they actually managed to make the main campaign in LGPE even easier than in XY/SM.

It's my favourite series, but having a busier life now I need these games to be immersive and at least offer a difficulty option. It doesnt respect the players time by how long battles last compared to how easy and most times mindless they are.

A fun distraction for a week or so with pretty visuals and great music.

Hoping SwSh will last longer, though.

Riding pokemon was fun, until you realize the annoying limitations of it with flying and large pokemon. Stuff they got rid of made me upset, but there were some QoL features I'd like to see in future main series games

It's the absolutely worst game in the franchise bar none. Everything it tried to do was a massive failure: no random battles, visible pokémon, the shallow and tired catching mechanics, the removal of tons of battle moves, no bike, no held items, €40 Mew DLC in the form of the Pokéball Plus, revisionist approach to the established canon, etc. It's a trash-tier installment in the franchise by any measurement. Even Learn with Pokémon: Typing Adventure is a more involved entry than Let's Go, but it somehow became the first main series game of Gen 8. Mindboggling.

Well, at least you can get the Mystery Box in Pokémon GO. That's... something, I guess.

It's pretty good. A lot of good QoL for the series, and it's generally very charming and cute.

I wish the gym leaders were harder. I wanted each battle to feel epic but most were very easy,
but some of the post-game battles are really good.

Completing the pokédex was an enjoyable breeze. With these mechanics, I'd do it even for 800+ pokémon haha

Enjoyed it way more then I thought I would. I'm obviously more interested in Sword/Shield more but I hope the Let's Go series continues as in between Pokemon generation games.

I like the capture system and the interaction with your partner Pokémon but I find the game an absolute chore to play. It's just such a basic experience and the few new features aren't enough to keep me from getting bored after 10 minutes.

I thought it was god awful.

Some interesting elements. Like the wild Pokemon in the overworld. But it's ruined by having no bike, no running, low difficulty, and not being able to turn off Go Catching.

Kinda wish they it was just a remake based on FRLG without the random encounters. Would have picked it up then.

It was alright.
My main gripe with them is that after about 20 hours of play time there isn't really much to do, whereas depending on what sort of post-game activities you're into the other mainline games will easily last 200 and more.

Thought why am I playing a goddamn GameBoy game in 2019.

The systems are so fucking archaic and slow. The battles are just as static as they were two decades ago. Awful.

Plus that distinct jank when the character moves from walking to running is just an epitome for the awful game mechanics and design Game Freak still has in their game.

I got it for my little boy and me to play over the Christmas period and we both really loved it. It was the perfect introduction for him and a great little nostalgia trip for me.

I think we'll both really miss seeing wild Pokémon walking around in the next release.

I personally hope they continue the Lets Go series and slowly remake all the games.

I wish it was a Fire Red/Leaf Green remake too. The Sevii Islands would've been awesome. Hell, they could have added in the Orange Islands and had Orange Crew as post-game bosses.

I haven't played a Pokemon game since Red/Blue.

... I was an avid player of Pokemon Go though.

I'm a degenerate who only cares about catching Pokémon so Let's Go was absolutely my jam. And also pleasantly nostalgic as I recognized many of the plot beats from Red/Blue.

It's less than an older remake of the same games and that is extremely disappointing, not sure how fans gave this one a pass, not good practice by GameFreak.

Going back to Kanto yet again was a sore spot, but I enjoyed the more unique elements of Let's Go and hope to see them integrated into the mainline games as optional features. Seeing Pokémon in the overworld grass, quick encounters instead of having to watch your character throw out their pokémon every single time (seriously, why can't we choose whether to run or battle straight away?), having box access anywhere in the world.

My favourite Pokémon being an interactive starter was icing on the cake.

The new catching mechanic was cool for the first few hours, then it got stale. My biggest Gripe was that the game was nearly identical to the originals down to the last tile. Apparently GF thought such a basic remake wasn't enough for the GBA ,so they added the extra Islands, but somehow it is okay on the Switch? music was cool, couldn't save the game from being mediocre though.

There were some moments of brilliance stitched in there. Like you said, overworld pokemon, the box always being with you, the Pokemon following you.

But it's short comings just made it frustrating.

Would have been a solid game if:
- They asked us at the game if we wanted to turn on Go Mode and reminded us that we can turn it off in OPTIONS at any time
- If the bike store sold a bike.
- If you had running shoes
- If you could remove Pikachu from your team and have him be a non-battling companion.
- If you could switch between overworld pokemon and random encounters in the options.
- If the fishing didn't suck.
- If experience share was heavily nerfed.
- There was more post game content. Where the heck were the Sevii Islands?

Pokémon Let's Go was fun but a highly flawed game

The post-game was a literal grindfest. It was a bit too easy. The capture mechanics are fun for the first half hour and then horrific. The stat system is broken to high hell. Storage, while being great, broke the game structure as you could just change your Pokémon in the middle of the Elite Four for example.

isn't that already a thing?
Yes

There also wasn't any fishing and the running shoes were automatic based on the amount you push the analogue stick.

I haven't seen any new Star Wars movie or played Chrono Cross. But I highly doubt they are worse than Let's Go.

Yeah, you tell us every thread how severely the game offends you. I was joking about a previous thread that compared Chrono with TLJ.

.... I played the entire game with him there when I could have had an Elektabuzz?

derp

Storage, while being great, broke the game structure as you could just change your Pokémon in the middle of the Elite Four for example.

How did you have extra Pokemon that were anywhere near being high enough level to be viable vs the elite 4 by that point in the game? You could grind, but that's not much different to grinding to be over levelled?

I am not the biggest fan of the catching and how important it is to keep catching for EXP, but it was alright. The worst thing for me is how awfully slow the entire UX is: slow menus, lots of buttons, managing all the Pokémon you caught. Performance is also terrible.

Couldn't get myself to finish it, even though I've finished most of the mainline Pokémon games.

It's actually really interesting, because I feel like the more time you invest into these, the more flawed they become.

At first I was fine with the new catching mechanic, but as Pokemon started to actually dodge things and the motion controls not always registering what I just did, I got more and more burnt out and stopped catching new Pokemon. Trainer battles alone don't give as much exp anymore, so I was severely underleveled for most of the game. Once I reached the actual postgame and started shiny chaining, which I did in handheld mode, because for whatever reason you can only use a control stick to aim in handheld mode, the flaws became more pronounced. Actually catching Pokemon takes more time than in the other mainline games, because of the elimination of Quick and Dusk Balls. The Master trainers are simply not fun, only grindy. It takes forever to catch a legendary, because they break out of 20 ultra balls despite using berries and you have no way of enhancing your catch rate beyond that so you are simply stuck throwing ball after ball.

On the other hand things like having access to the box from anywhere, which does not heal contrary to popular belief, and overworld Pokemon are great additions.

In the end I am a core Pokemon player that has a full living dex and plays each game for hundreds of hours together with my fiancé, so I understand that maybe they just wanted to create a "simpler" experience for players, but removing the options for players like me as well as not being able to use a wider varitey of Pokemon through transferring are questionable decisions, that I highly doubt would have interfered with anyone that simply wanted to play Kanto again with the new mechanics.

Was it just me or was something off about the art style too? Everything looks so plastic...

Dogpiling onto the "catching a billion pokemon to level is lame" bandwagon.

Also dogpiling on the "it's cool to see pokemon wandering around" bandwagon as well.

Pretty much. And I hated how it basically forced me to play portable to avoid waggle catching.
