Shrug guess I have to wait a few hours more to know if starlink goes on sale digitally this week or next
Just a reminder that a demo for Super Dragon Ball heroes is out on the eshop.

We talked about it some pages ago and the majority of us that took the bullet and got it, loved the game and it's card mechanics.
For everyone on the fence you can try the demo finally.

Also the game got an update adding more cards and extra missions for free so that's a good sign that the game is getting good support and even more extra content after it came out.

Details about the demo are on the final seconds of the video.

Need to try the demo

It's tragic that the original Backyard Football will forever be shackled to those NFL licenses. I can't see that one ever getting a rerelease, and that makes me depressed.

But in the meantime, I'll settle for the hilarious Spy Fox 2 (and maybe grab the other two that I never had the chance to try). I spent waaaaay too much time on that bonus shmup minigame as a kid. In fact, now that I think about it, it might be the first shmup that I ever really played obsessively and the first game-within-a-game that overshadowed its source for me. It might not look like much, but it was fun, and that's all that matters.

Woah memories, didn't realize they were still alive

'Death Coming' has resulted in one of my biggest surprises of this month.

Basically, the game is like a 'The Sims' entry, but centered in the fun part: being a sociopath, trying to build death traps to kill the NPCs in ridiculous ways.

It looks simple on the surface: you navigate through a vast map in each city, interacting with elements to kill people. With a gorgeous pixel art style, and tons of small and subtle details in each animation, making of every death something funny and hilarious.

But at the same time, there is more complicated interactions that require to solve small environmental puzzles.

And in each map there are tons of secrets and easter eggs. With every level being infinitely replayable, trying to earn medals for killing the maximum number of characters. And things like a combo system.

It's like 'Hidden Folks' meets 'The Sims' meets the ridiculousness of 'Saints Row: The Third'.

A bloody brilliant game infused with creativity.

They have nailed the feeling of the controls and the placement of enemies.

It really has this hard to achieve sense of being playing a 90s Japanese game.

The game is heavily inspired by the 'Monster Boy' series.

And maybe this is its major problem to shine: regarding the production values, it can't rival with 'Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom', that is a production with a much bigger budget.

But at the same time, there is something charming in playing a new 'Wonder Boy' entry in which the graphics feel so close to an early-gen Mega Drive game.

The game comes from a French studio who comes from the Dreamcast scene, Storybird Games.

They also ported recently 'Gigantic Army' to Switch. A game originally created by Astro Port, one of the most well regarded doujin Japanese studios.

This deep knowledge of the Japanese classics (and having worked close to Japanese developers), can clearly seen in the superb level design of 'Aggelos'.

Is it just me because all I can see is a slightly altered Blastoise whenever I see this game on the coming soon section.

I'd been eyeing this for a while, will have to pick it up later today.

Glad to hear Aggelos is good. I saw it on the store today and checked it out as it just screamed Monster Boy to me. Definitely grabbing that when more of my backlog is dealt with... which is gonna be a while because I got Katana Zero and Cuphead today, and that's in addition to Virtua Racing and the Konami Arcade collection (Japanese version naturally) yesterday. All I can say so far is Virtua Racing is absolutely brilliant, I've not played it since the Mega Drive? port and this version running in 60FPS is gonna get so much playtime out of me. M2 does it yet again.

Has anyone complained that in 2019 Nintendo still releases eShop games randomly? If a game isn't up for preorder it'll go live during the afternoon of the release day, like Picross S3 (basically a second party title) not being out today at midday. Baffling.

A minute would be 00:01
Wasn't there at 13:00
I'm not ultra mad (I am), but I thought it was the basic standard to be able to preload a game or at least being able to download and buy it at midnight not when Grace Chen wants.

At this point now it feels like give it a minute was just give it a minute to betray expectations. 9AM PST is when it usually updates with new stuff. Midnight for the bigger 1st party stuff. But Picross not being there right now feels like a Grace Chen moment

Just started Cuphead, playing via handheld mode. I already loved the Xbox One version of the game, and I can't believe how amazing a job the devs have done on this. My jaw is once again on the floor. Time to finally clear expert mode this time round then. Probably get all the in game achievements as well.

I remember playing swords of ditto on PC but the movement felt so slow, I don't think I got very far into it. Anyone know of videos or update logs saying what's different in the switch version?

I just came across this post from the "A Dark Room" dev:
https://ruby.social/@amirrajan/101985836120728909

Dear Ruby devs and game devs. I have a crazy announcement I want to share. Please boost.

Last week I released A Dark Room to the Nintendo Switch. Within the game, I also shipped a Ruby interpreter and a code editor as an Easter Egg.

*This Easter Egg effectively turns every consumer spec-ed Nintendo Switch into a Ruby Machine.*

1. Download A Dark Room from the US/EU.
2. Connect a USB keyboard and press the "~" key.
3. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Yes! This game is superb and I reviewed the switch port a few weeks ago. Was well worth the money for sure and it's a perfect compliment to Monster Boy if anyone enjoyed that game. I really do hope it doesn't get buried in today's releases since I think it's one of the strongest titles to launch today. It's a super well-crafted tribute to the Master System too.

You guys made me buy Picross S3 even though I have no idea what it is and it looks like the most boring shit in the world to me. I have a problem.

I just bought Dark Souls. I've beaten it before on my crappy notebook at 720p and mostly 25 fps, so you can imagine I'm not very picky about technical issues.

I've followed the conversation about the port and whenever I saw people complaining about the sound, I was "nah, itsfuckingnothing.gif".

Boy, was I wrong. This is really, really bad. Sound is awful, horrible. I'm not sure whether it makes me regret my purchase or not, but it's super bad. I mean, even using headphones I can't tell the difference between 128 and 320 kbps mp3s, but as soon as the game starts and you first hit something, it's immediately clear how bad the sound is. The music, the voices, the sound effect, everything is really freaking bad.

There is also a weird issue that annoys me a lot. I love playing as a thief and I'm very quick at parry/riposting, but if I riposte too fast, cancelling the parrying motion, there is no parry sound at all. You guys know how satisfying that parry sound is, right?

Yeah the sound is veerrrrry bad. I don't own it but I've seen a friend's copy and if you care at all about audio quality I'd stay away from this version.

Okay, which one of you filthy degenerates are buying both Moero Chronicle Hyper and Panty Party.

I know you're out there.

tenor.gif
yes but.

which one of us will buy...THE PANTY PARTY LIMITED EDITION.

BECAUSE THAT EXISTS FOR SOME REASON.

........aannnyyywaaayyyssss....

Picross S3 impressions: You can now preview the puzzle's grid before starting it, which is alright, but I kinda wish it was a feature that you could turn on or off. Maybe in S4. I'm really wishing there was an auto-fill option when you complete a line & just have the rest of the column/row be filled with Xs, something I never knew I wanted until I played Konami Puzzle Collection on mobile. I'm starting the Color Picross tutorial & considering how much I disliked it in Pic-a-Pix or whatever its called, this is at least doing a better job of explaining to me how it differs and what I should be looking for in terms of clues/hints.

Edit: Yeah, the UI for color picross is clicking with me much better in informing me what it is I should be focusing on next. I don't know if I'd want an entire game based on this, but as a side mode, it's completely fine, especially since there's only 30 color puzzles. That's more than enough for me, honestly.

I have many bad things to say about dark souls, but the sound on switch, while certainly not great, didn't bother me more than that. Still a relatively low effort port; i wish it offered a performance mode at 60fps. There's been a few last gen ports recently boosting the fps from 30 to 60.

Wait, why can't I play Boxboy yet?

*checks eShop*

"April 26th"

................why not just make it today. Kinda hoping it's a midnight release since it's first party & it's my night off.

I wish there was a digital version of Starlink as affordable as the frequently discounted physical version. I'd like to try it but don't want to fuss with the plastic bits.
This is how I feel, too. I watch that update vid and I'd love to play some of that. Just give me the opportunity to play the game without all the toy crap. I want all of the content at a reasonable price. No gimmicks.

And I already know I am going to buy Dragon's Dogma, again. I don't need any more games but I know I have to have it.
what are you guys talking about? starlink's digital starter edition and the delxue edition have been on sale for big discounts all the time, even just as recently as a few weeks ago (last week? right now?)

Was anything ever done with the sound quality in Dark Souls? (I'm guessing no.)
nothing.

Has anyone complained that in 2019 Nintendo still releases eShop games randomly? If a game isn't up for preorder it'll go live during the afternoon of the release day, like Picross S3 (basically a second party title) not being out today at midday. Baffling.
Publishers set release times. Not Nintendo.

Aggelos for me today. I like the premise behind the new Steamworld game but I didn't really enjoy the other Steamworld games so I might pass on it.

1. I didn't know Cytus was coming to Switch
2. holy hell $50 is expensive, they're making up for the fact that they gave away all that Voez dlc for free
It's 200+ songs. The entire Cytus tracklist and some is there. Original Cytus on phones was a ridiculous steal, it was a couple of dollars and they kept releasing free song packs when they hit certain sales milestones. So for like $2-3 you got 100+ tracks.

I can vouch for Cytus, Alpha seems like a reasonable deal for a game full of music.

But also I'm waiting because they just announced a physical edition for Europe.

As anyone tried Tardy? Looks absolutely gorgeous and the setting looks interesting.
Picked up The Way Remastered. I'm a sucker for that kind of neat, crisp pixel art. Hope it's good.

'Tardy' was a disappointment for me, but depending on your tastes, it can be your type of game.

It's a point'n click adventure, and here comes my first and major complaint: there are not puzzles based on combining objects, indeed there is not an inventory. They have decided to center all the puzzles in panels and mechanisms.

So if you're a fan of games like 'Myst', this can be your jam.

The second problem is precisely the setting.

While it looks great on the screenshots, with a captivating sci-fi mood... instead of creating a mysterious story with a more philosophical tone, they have opted for a sit-com type of humor full of jokes, with a main character who will be constantly saying funny phrases.

So at the end, while for the artistic design in the screenshots this looks like a more contemplative, meditative or abstract type of story, the tone is much more close to the 'Space Quest' series.

And while I love the 'Space Quest' series, this type of tone or humor doesn't fit with what you're seeing on the screen.

All in this game, from the ambient and moody electronic music with a 70s kraut rock vibe, to the cryptic puzzles interacting with mysterious mechanisms... seems as if it has been created for a completely different game, with a different tone and narrative.

I'm digging Picross S3, even if most of it is the same ol' thing. Color Picross is pretty cool and a different spin on the series compared to Pic-A-Pix. It was fun beating the last puzzle, and it took a good half-hour to beat for me. I still wish they'd include achievements or unlockables or something similar to TP Picross or Pokemon Picross but it's still real good fun.

Ok so I'm going on vacation next week and want a Switch game to tide me over.

I've played BotW and Odyssey and have Mario Kart and M+R.

Is Smash a good single player game? Any other first party/exclusive recommendations or anything?

Not first party, but Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and Final Fantasy XII would be perfect for the ride.

Damn, I think I figured out why friend-related events barely happened in The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa. I noticed that the two times I passed out, overslept and went to school after classes ended, I triggered events, so now after class I dismissed my friends before going down the stairs and sure enough I triggered another.

Looks like having your friends in your party keeps their individual events from triggering, which was a problem because I made an habit out of making them all join me every day before class started lol.

Yeah those would be good. I already played them on PC though so I was leaning towards more of a first party or exclusive game I haven't played yet. Thanks though. Those are good games lol.

Do the Switch Picross games have touch controls as an option?

I still have a bunch unplayed on 3DS, but I'm just curious since I'm sure I'll get around to getting them on Switch someday.

Nope. For whatever reason.
Aw, that's a shame. I've played some Picross knockoffs on mobile and they work fine in a touch screen IMO, Switch is big enough that it would work even better. Hut then again it's kind of a heavy system, so it might be hard to hold for long.

That said I've only played through 1 of the 3DS Picross games I think, and there's like 9 of them I think, plus Picross 3D 2 which I never finished either.

About 3 chapters into Steamworld Quest. I guess I shouldn't be surprised but it has all the charm and snappy gameplay Image and Form are so good at. The combat is fun and there is just enough depth in the systems to not be boring. Unfortunately, the world/environment traversal is way too limited. Still, fun so far.
