The logical approach to take with Walking Dead threads is to have one official OT for the current season, a Community Hangout OT for comic discussion and then a spoiler thread to discuss and speculate TV show filming leaks with additional context from comic storylines. It does seem kind of silly to have those latter two things in one combined thread.

finally got around to issue 173. I guess i should have seen that coming. The Whisperers were last arc and they wouldn't be interesting as a continuing enemy after they were already defeated. The Beta reveal was funny. I still think Jesus is going to get it soon.

I'm not really into leaked spoilers but I'd like to discuss comic spoilers and how the show could or won't follow the comic storyline

as far as the rumored spoiler in this thread, I seriously doubt that character will leave the show, but it's possible. Maybe another character could take his story but I really do doubt it
That's how I am--want a thread with anything from the comic and show fair game but I don't want to read leaks; I like being surprised when it actually happens. I don't even watch previews or look at future issue covers. But I was fine with how the old thread worked; i just phased out when people talked leaks.

I think it's combined because there would have to be 4 threads to meet everyone's needs (show only, comic only, show/comic discussion, leak thread) and there just aren't that many people who were talking about the comic to have 4 threads.

Just read the latest comic. A lot of plot points are being handled. I can't wait for next issue! Also, I'm down with the no Coral! Hell yeah. Drive this show into the ground...on fire! Twice, off a cliff! I enjoy the show, btw lol

I can throw up a comic thread if people want. Or someone else can. Then I can get a mod to change the title of this thread so people know it's just about leaks. The only reason I combined leaks/comics is because that's how it was on the other site.

I really hope they don't have to fight these people cause I don't know how they can conceivably make them win honestly.

So...big death still not officially confirmed, but "most shocking moment ever", hyping it up.

Pretty much confirmed :(

Unless they're being so transparent about it to swerve, but I don't think so...

Edit: No Chandler Riggs or "surprise guest" on Talking next week...

Poor Coral :(

Premiere will be his send off, since he was seen filming for episode 9, and then since then, hasn't been filming.

This doesn't really even feel like that big of a deviation from the comic books.......at least no more than Andrea's death. When I heard that the midseason finale was going to be a major change, I thought they meant a completely different direction. Maybe with the pilots of that helicopter showing up. Instead it feels like they are still following the comic books, albeit very very slowly.

So this means this scene from the comics is never happening now:

LnhFgZ8.png

What a waste of two characters with tons of potential, would've been a great way to show how far the series has come.

Enid could have replaced Sophie. They can still do the Whisperers, but the Carl/Lydia story is gone.

Why.. did they not just let him play out S8 and recast for the time jump??

I don't understand
Don't worry no one fucking understands. Gimple decided to kill Carl off even tho he's constantly said how much he loves the comic. Just doesn't make any fucking sense. Why kill him off right before Carl gets a shit load of material after the time jump. Plus Gimple worked really hard to get this show back on course with the comic when he took over in season 4.
Sigh I honestly wonder how Kirkman feels about all this.

They have to kill Negan off at the end of the season now, his post-AOW arc does not work whatsoever without Carl.

But apparently the entire point of killing Carl was to reconcile the Rick who wants to kill Negan now and the Rick who will show him mercy.

Not sure why Carl had to die for that :(

They'll keep Negan and give Carl's part in the story to Daryl.

I mean... I guess that could kind of work.

I will say though that Chandler Riggs is a god awful actor so the prospect of long prison cell talks between Reedus and Morgan is far more appealing from a watchability standpoint. His little speech to Negan before everything started blowing up was painful to listen to.

Getting Daryl to the point where any kind of connection between him and Negan feels genuine is going to be extremely hard work and I don't have any faith in the writing team to get us there. It's just going to start happening and we'll be expected to get onboard. And while he's a better actor than Riggs, he's not really all that great either and has about two dials at all times. Andrew Lincoln is the best right now followed by Lennie James, but James hasn't had shit to work with all season.

While it would be a long shot, I think the whole sending-a-doctor thing is going to end up saving Coral in some horribly written way. Maybe he'll hide under a Lazarus Dumpster.

Anyway, the show is too dumb to kill one of the main characters 'offscreen', so he's gonna live.

I can picture a world in which they play off Carl's death as what sets Rick down the path to Merciful Rick, but like with a lot of plot threads coming up, it'll take serious writing skills far beyond what Kirkman did in the comics since they've now (literally) written themselves into a corner (several corners).

Merciful Rick will happen, and I guess heel turn Negan will happen, but the way we get there is going to be stupid most likely. It was already kind of stupid in the comics.

I don't know how I'm going to survive never hearing Rick yell "Coraal" again.
Perhaps Carl can have guest appearances as a ghost like Lori did. Remember Ghost Lori?

Then we can get another "Coraal" for old time's sake.

Shane came back as a ghost, too.

All of the ghosts can't help themselves from wanting to see how The Walking Dead ends.

Dale was asked to come back as a ghost and he gave this "fuck that shit" expression...

I miss Dale.

Loved the last issue. I was worried that the Maggie stuff would pile in on top of the shit going down at the Kingdom and the Sanctuary, so it's good that there was some relative peace made with the Negan situation and that he has grown further.

As for the show, based on talk as I'm still two episodes behind, killing Carl makes little sense. Rick already didn't want to kill them all. His loss doesn't really scream "imprison Negan" as a choice over killing him.

Personally didn't have an issue with Riggs' acting, considering the dredge he was given to work with. I'd be stiff too if I had to act out of character and hardly utilized with poor dialogue.

I don't know if I can either. Hopefully we get a lot of sad "Coral, no..." in the premiere to tide us over for the rest of our lives.

It's just weird how...it was going to happen anyway. With Carl alive or dead, they have six or seven episodes to get there. I almost feel like Carl dying makes it seem LESS likely Rick would want to spare anyone lol. I would think he'd want to burn the world down.

I don't agree with any of this, to be honest. I think Riggs plays the part of Carl very well. And I don't think "adult to another adult" works. The Carl/Negan relationship works because of who each character is, where they are in their lives and their ages. I don't think that has as much of an impact with Daryl.

The problem I have with the mercy stuff is it feels completely undeserved. If you're going to try to make the point that not all the saviors are evil then maybe you should introduce some saviors that aren't huge pieces of shit. I've yet to see any saviors (besides Negan's "wives" who don't have a choice) that aren't awful people.

Pry similar to the spaceship in Fargo. This seasons been pretty awful.

Yeah that was really weird. All of a sudden see a helicopter above while rick goes to the trash people's place. then no mention of it at all later. is he just losing his mind again like in the prison?

or is that part of what eugene did hahaha. i mean i can believe he did some mcguyver stuff and made a helicopter work to lead walkers away or whatever haha.

Is Carl dying a virgin?

I hope Rick takes his hat back.

"Hey, your boy... Is he dead?"
"No?"
"He will be... See, cause people like you, the good people, they always die..."
"And the bad people do too, but the weaker people... The people like me... We have inherited the Earth."

One of the most appealing thing of this war and the post war arc on the comic was the relationship between Carl and Negan
The show failed to deliver the first part so I don't care how they will handle the second part.

Is Lennie James working in the 2 shows now?
Or they gonna kill him in the premiere?

Is make more sense to me replacing Carl with moran rather than Daryl
