The meeting of nations story, right? I didn't expect much from the main story, but it's nice to hear Twilight's good.

Speaking of supplemental products, a new Equestria Girls book (A Friendship to Remember) came out and everything about it looked unremarkable... but it turns out it's actually a huge deal! The premise of the story is actually that everyone loses their memories of Sunset other than her personality from the first movie, and she has to find a way to return things to normal. Apparently a significant chunk of the story is spent in pony form, and she reunites with Celestia. And pretty major stuff happens with Trixie, too. Like "this is seriously just a supplemental book?!" major. See more at the Wikia page.

EDIT: Friendship is Dragons' adaptation of "The Best Night Ever" has turned Blueblood into a full-blown boss encounter, and the newest issue is pretty great.

It's Trig that's out. I'm going to run a stream anyway, but it will probably be a Turnabout Storm marathon instead of an actual episode. I'll see if I can maybe play the episodes at 1.2x speed or something.

Hmm, we've seen Applejack prepare pancakes and Rarity prepare eggs for breakfast, but have we ever seen Twilight eat breakfast? Besides in "Castle Sweet Castle", since Pinkie provided those pancakes.

I feel like she wouldn't care much about what she ate, but if asked to design a cereal for others to eat, she'd go crazy making it healthy yet appealing.

In another note, this topic about failed attempts to introduce shows and movies to people made me think about failed MLP introductions.

Years ago, I introduced the show to my family. My older sister liked Sailor Moon and some other anime, liked The Last Unicorn, and had unicorn based merchandise, so I thought she'd love MLP. My family watches shows and movies every night during dinner, so I put it on one day. After watching some episodes over a period of several days, getting through "Dragonshy" I believe, she exploded at me for continuing to suggest it, and said she didn't want to watch it. My dad, on the other hand, liked it, so I continued watching it with him and my mom on days my sister is out. I don't know what her issue was.

Similar things happened with Steven Universe and Star vs., but in those cases, it was more that no one was interested in continuing when I brought them up and I didn't press. In the former, we got past Lapis's introduction, and in the latter, we got past Toffee's introduction. I skipped past weaker episodes for both shows.

I just want you to pause and reflect on this. It's gotten to the point where we're analyzing what kind of breakfast the characters would make. Have we gone too far?

The people I watch the show with all got into it by themselves, so I don't have any spicy stories on that front. I'm just the only one that keeps current with it.

Sort of a shame in Steven Universe's case because I do not think the show gets all that good until the first season is ending. Still been meaning to catch up with that show myself but I only really enjoy Peridot related episodes in it anymore.

Have not seen Star vs but I think I will enjoy it.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #61
This issue on its own was a lot of fun. It was great seeing Twilight interact with all of these characters, both old and new (and background), act diplomatic, and then dive into a pile of paperwork. It was odd getting such sudden focus on Raven, who you might remember as a background character who most notably appeared as Celestia's unicorn assistant once but also appeared as an earth pony as Mayor Mare's assistant (this comic goes with the former). I almost wonder if she'll appear in season 8. I particularly liked seeing Twilight bond with the librarians and archivists, and the new characters were decently interesting. It was also nice to get some followup to the events of The Movie, with Queen Novo appearing (both as a hippogriff and a seapony) and mentions of the Storm King's defeat changing the political situation.

The art was generally good, with a lot of fun details and cute moments (such as Twilight and Cadance hugging as two male guards stare), but it also felt sloppy at points. Notably, there's one moment at the start where Raven is randomly wearing sunglasses, not as part of a gag or anything. I can only imagine the line drawing depicted her glasses as fully reflective, and the inker misunderstood this. Panels were sometimes visually confusing, and I feel like there isn't much continuity from panel to panel, with characters jumping around a lot. Many of the details with who was at the convocation were strange, and it's hard to tell what to take seriously and what's just a gag. Like, did the Pony Tones just show up for that one panel, or should we expect Rarity and Fluttershy to pop up again later in the story? And Longhorn is the bovine delegate? Really?

Still, it was fun and I would have loved to see more of just Twilight going around the convocation making friends. It's a shame they felt the need to introduce a big conflict in the end.

Silver Quill's review makes an interesting point about how Twilight takes a much more proactive and excited approach with her princess duties than often presented in the show, where she's usually bored by them. I did really like how Twilight was so excited about experiencing what the other nations had to offer, and brought the bureaucrats with her to share in the wonder. This is a princess going out of her way to encourage friendship between nations, completely on her own initiative.

I was actually thinking of jumping ahead to the season 1 finale after that, but the opportunity didn't come up. That said, I feel like the Lapis two parter should be a decent enough place to check if you're really interested in the show by that point. As for me, I fell off the show after the Pearl vs. Peridot giant robot episode. I stopped to let more episodes build up, and when checked in months later, there were only a few new episodes due to a break soon after that, and then I just never got back to it.

Star vs. is pretty decent. The characters are a lot of fun, and it builds up interesting stories, but the resolutions have been somewhat unsatisfying so far.

In the book that comes with Weird Al's Squeeze Box, containing his complete works, has a listing for "Super Duper Party Pony".

The Teen Titans meet their voice actors, meaning Raven meets Tara Strong. She goes through a bunch of her voices briefly, including Twilight Sparkle.

Video about Discord's backstory, adapted from a 2012 comic by CosmicUnicorn, hence it's super contradicted by the show. But it's still interesting, and the Discord voice actor is great, so I recommend checking it out. The art in the original comic is really neat, too.

With Trigonometrize busy, I'm taking over the stream, and instead of watching episodes of the show, we're watching some fan videos. Specifically,

We're watching the first two parts of the crossover between Ace Attorney and My Little Pony, Turnabout Storm. Season 1 era views of how Equestria works! Trixie as Twilight's ultimate rival! A mystery more convoluted than Case 1-5 Rise from the Ashes! You get it all from this series. It was interesting while it first ran, so let's see how it holds up now.

But if there's one thing I remember, it's that the dialogue is drawn out in order to match the text box flow of the Ace Attorney games. So to make up for that, we'll actually be watching at x1.25 speed.

And it's not just Turnabout Storm! We'll be watching Snowdrop and Fall of the Crystal Empire, also at x1.25 speed. The former is the biggest combination of popularity and sentimentality to come out of this fandom, and beat out Double Rainboom as best video of that month. The latter features super edgy scythe wielding King Somba, and Luna becoming Nightmare Moon for a bit because of course it does.

Watching through this one since it's pretty short and I'm curious to see what Berrow has to say. Will edit in further info. Apparently Ponyville was initially supposed to be Fillydelphia. Mitch pitched an idea for an episode where Rarity and AJ are called to the map to Fillydelphia, where Flim becomes mayor and outlaws cider. AJ would become a bootlegger and Rarity would pretend to be in love with Flam to influence him to get it back. The idea was rejected for being too "adult." There was also apparently an idea for Big Mac to have had a lifelong dream to be a royal guard and would become Twilight's but would be super bad at it so things would be weird since Big Mac is Twilight's friend. Also Berrow sticks up for Fluttershy Leans In, saying that it would make sense that Fluttershy would keep that sort of dream to herself so it's believable that she wouldn't have already shared that.

The interview itself is largely a lot of wanking off Larson. It's only like halfway through the interview that they direct a question at Berrow. They ask what it was like finally writing episodes after doing books for a while. She talks about how it was nice finally doing work that was largely considered canon since most of her books were always written to be like an episode of the show.

Both are asked what their favorite episode of the show is. Berrow says that it's an unreleased Season 8 episode. The only info she spills on it is that it's one of the first 6 episodes of the season and that the main Mane 6 pony is Rainbow Dash but features some other unexpected characters. (Please be Starlight Please be Starlight) Larson says that all of his episodes are amazing and he loves them all (Kappa) but the one he specifically called out was Return of Harmony. Berrow mentions that she wanted to explain why Twilight doesn't like Quesadillas but apparently the higher-ups thought it was too weird.

Finally got around to watching the TV special The Making of My Little Pony: The Movie. Still weird seeing the character voices come out of the voice actors. It outright says the seaponies are hippogriffs, so I guess I didn't need to treat that as a spoiler after all. I kind of feel like watching the movie again. Good thing the digital release is soonish, on December 19.

Tails of Equestria expansion The Festival of Light has been released in the US. ED didn't include the description due to spoilers, so here is is under a spoiler block.

Two more Belle Eve designs, based on the gray in the logo this time instead of dark mode. Also fixed some recolor errors I made with the previous images, and made the orange hair highlights better.

So it turns out that Monochromatic and lilfunkman are working on a visual novel for The Enchanted Library.

Monochromatic's Patreon actually has a demo, but it's very basic. You choose what Rarity says: "Do you love me?" or "I want to break up with you." The former leads to dialogue I believe from the story, where Twilight replies yes, then Rarity gets closer and asks if she's sure, and this repeats a couple of times with an increasingly nervous Twilight saying yes, until Rarity says good, that's all she needed to know. The end. Second choice, Rarity gets angry at the player and continues with the first path. Not linking because sorry, patron only.

Speaking of which, new chapters of The Enchanted Kingdom! Review below.

Not exactly a happy set of chapters. The first is a flashback to Spike and Cadance getting into an argument about how they're handling the search for Twilight and the others, and the second features Twilight having panic attacks about going through a changed Canterlot and talking to Cadance.

I hadn't really thought about just how frustrating the situation Spike and Cadance found themselves in was. As time passes, people are forgetting what the other princesses look like and even their names, but they can't actually tell people about them because that would curse them with being unable to ever find them. I had forgotten about the red herring earlier in The Enchanted Library about a changeling having replaced Princess Denza. That was actually the case, but it was because Cadance is a ghost and they're acting on her behalf, not anything sinister.

It's kind of weird seeing Spike be so mistrustful of changelings, given Thorax in the show, but that does lead me to think about the frequent use of OCs in this story instead of show characters. If Thorax appeared, the audience would be taken out of the world of the story and go, "Oh, so now this this and this will happen!" A show character introduced after the start carries expectations about how they will be handled, while an original character won't impact the reader in the same way.

Gotta love Mono rubbing things in by having Cadance choose to meet with a pony in person for the first time in a while, and it turns out to be that relative of Applejack who found Twilight, thus giving him the curse.

In chapter 4, while reading it, I did think it overplayed Twilight's nerves a bit, with every step through Canterlot being a herculean effort, but I suppose it does make sense in this context. It's her old home, but every pony she knew there is dead, except for someone who's there because of a lie she was the center of, told because of a mistake she made. It's sad seeing Twilight in this state, having to rely so much emotionally on Rarity and Spike.

Still, there were cute moments, including Twilight getting angry at Spike for swearing, and Rarity joking about Twilight kissing Cadance.

Oh, and the part at the beginning of the chapter! So Discord is meeting with Rarity while she's hiding from Twilight, asking her if she changed her mind about something. I suspected before that Rarity has a curse that teleports her around if anyone affiliated with Twilight finds her, and this seems to support it. Definitely curious about what this all means.

I was hoping for a happier reunion, but the chapter ends with them just starting to talk, so hopefully next chapter we get Cadance going, "So anyway, how's your sex life?" like I wanted.

Saturday's RP was just a one-man show from me, and shorter than the others, so I'll just directly post it here.

Equestria Girls getting a Christmas marathon on Discovery Family. Unknown if it's just the movies or also the specials and shorts.

ED wrote an article about a subject some here have brought up before, "Shadow Play" being the theatrical movie instead of what we got. There isn't much to it, though; just the obvious points of there being way too much to explain to a new viewer.

I started reading the fanfic Fractured Sunlight yesterday, but I'm still only just past the prologue. Seems decent enough so far; I knew the premise involved Dougworld Twilight having known a Dougworld Sunset that died, but I hadn't thought about the fact that Dougworld Sunset would have parents.

New MLP: CENSORED special, about the Hearth's Warming specials. It works pretty well.

Unfortunately, with Trig busy, it was just me and Sylvee. And then Sylvee had to drop out partway through Turnabout Storm part 2, and I kept playing the stream for some reason instead of pausing. In any case, it was interesting seeing the four main videos again after so long. I had forgotten a lot of the twists and turns of Turnabout Storm. Phoenix's VA was good, but wow, the pony VAs are really rough. Especially compared to how good they tend to be now. Trixie's the worst, and she speaks the most of all the ponies!

I thought Snowdrop was insipid even back then, and it's even more so now. She brought her class problems all on herself by procrastinating and not asking for help. And I forgot that weird moment where she has a flashback with her mother, implying she's dead... but then the mother just appears in the present without fanfare. Also Celestia and Luna were SO MOVED by her dumb project.

Fall of the Crystal Empire is still hilariously edgy, with scythe wielding Sombra and Luna quoting The Dark Knight Rises. Also pretty sure I used some of her lines in "Blood Moon". I will admit the action is pretty, though.

EDIT: As I've been mentioning, the Friendship is Dragons webcomic has added a boss fight with Blueblood to its adaptation of "Best Night Ever". I think Blueblood would have been better off actually damaging Rarity in the latest issue.

A while back I made a big deal about the special weeks that Reddit do to promote art being posted to their sub during the downtime. The past several weeks have had very few decent submissions so I didn't really bother but this week's has been Villain week and it had a decent amount posted so I'll make a compilation here with my favorites once the week is over. Also I have a discussion topic I've been saving for a rainy day and I'll probably pull the trigger on it soon.

Discord is good for actually getting responses to the art, but there are way more lurkers here than in the chat, and it's easier to look back on posts months later, which is why I like to post stuff both in the chat and here.

I started using this avatar (Twilight in a school uniform by NCMares) ever since we moved to ResetEra. For future reference, when GAF fell, I was using Pirate Rarity art.

I think your confusion comes from me continuing to use the Pirate Rarity art in Discord until recently. I'm now using a Fluttershy avatar there since too many people were Rarity, and avatars appear much closer together in a chat.

I played seriously for a little over two years. Then sets rotated. Which made me stop playing. Basically new cards and sets come out all the time, and those sets are playable for about two years. After that, you can't play them in the format/standard I liked playing. So all my cards became unplayable and worthless. Made me too depressed to have to keep buying more cards that become useless.

From there I picked up weiss schwarz and still play that. (I also played the Mlpccg for a bit but don't anymore) Who?

Back when I was in Magic I never really got super deep into Standard because I didn't really have all the money to get a decent deck. What I usually tried to do was trade all the stuff that I figured would drop when the meta changed/sets rotated (stuff that doesn't see any play outside of standard or just randomly became good in one deck like Frost Titan was for a couple months) and get stuff that I knew would retain value/grow in value. The most obvious ones for this would be lands since they often see play in Modern/Extended back when that was a thing and will always have value in stuff like EDH. Lands are the backbone of most multi-color decks so they're literally always going to have value assuming they're a decent land cycle.

That being said if you're not constantly staying on top of things and managing your collection in anticipation of meta shifts and set rotations you can lose a lot of money and for some I can imagine that all the effort isn't worth it.

I myself only play Magic via prereleases. In general, Limited is great for playing Magic without having to keep a deck up to date, since you make it right then and there. And who knows, maybe this way, you get a decent frame for a deck you'd like to use in Constructed.

On Sunday I posted a really good Twilight sculpture. Here's a timelapse video from the same guy, of him making a Raripunk sculpture. It's from September, but only got posted now on ED for whatever reason.

MLP Holiday Special 2017
While it was entertaining enough, I was dreading the direction this story was going in. As Flim and Flam take advantage of the season to sell Hearth's Warming merchandise super early, Twilight and Applejack grump about how this goes against the spirit of the holiday. I thought for sure it was going to go in a hypocritical "don't be consumeristic on Christmas but also BUY MLP" direction. There were jokes about that latter part, but I figured it was just going to be that. However, once Twilight stops Flim and Flam's plans, everyone actually does call her out for being inconsiderate, and thinking that they were somehow being tricked by Flim and Flam. They even point out that her solution, declaring that all of Flim and Flam's products were free, was a real abuse of her power as a princess. The actual lesson of the story is, "Jesus, just ease up and let people enjoy what they want!"

There's a lot to enjoy from this issue. First of all, it's a pretty rare instance of Twilight and Applejack being the focus characters. I know someone on another board who ships the two, so he should be happy. They're largely there to rain on everyone's parade, but they still get nice moments.

This story confirms that Snowdrop isn't canon, since there isn't a legend about where snow comes from! Flim and Flam take advantage of this absence to market Windy the Windigo, an adorable mascot for the season, who has her own song, and you can help her out by buying her favorite cookies, which shows her just enough kindness to keep the snow soft and friendly.

The art by Brenda Hickey is great, and everyone is wearing festive new outfits, even Flim and Flam. We really need to see the ponies in scarves more, especially Twilight. Biggest shame of the issue is that we didn't get a close up of Fluttershy wearing her cap with bunny ears, or Rarity with her Russian hat. There's also a fun cameo from Fry from Futurama, doing the "take my money" meme.

Holy crap, just noticed that Twilight's dialogue in the first panel could be seen as calling out Snowdrop. Also, kind of considering this (edited) as an avatar.

Silver Quill's review mentions how the Holiday Specials have all been bizarrely cynical compared to most of the normal issues. The first one was about the CMC cyberbullying Sunset Shimmer. The second was satirical, but did heavily rely on the characters being unpleasant in the tales. This is also pretty cynical, and Twilight and Applejack are somewhat unpleasant, but I think it's handled much better than the previous specials, and there's a nice lesson in the end.

I was too distracted by my issues with the moral to really get into the comic. The show establishes Flim and Flam as being complete con artists that sell people junk and the general population gets tricked into buying into it. This is the same kind of stuff they did in Leap of Faith and were going to do in Las Pegasus but in those situations everyone falls for it but this time I guess everyone knew what they were up to but looked like they bought into it instead? The whole first half or so of the comic tries its hardest to portray them as bad guys but then turns around and says that what they were doing was fine because people wanted it? I just feel like it would have worked better if Flim and Flam started it but then others joined in and started making their own holiday-themed stuff to sell as well, so it became a community holiday that everyone contributed to rather then it just being entirely another scam by Flim and Flam. They even hinted at this possibility with the boxmaker saying that he's going to need to make more to keep up with demand only to immediately get quashed by the brothers. IDK probably just looking into things too much.

With "Leap of Faith", the issue was that by advertising a fake miracle cure, they were putting people in danger. This time, they're doing the same thing that department store did when they invented Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It does seem like some characters believed them about Windy, but it's mostly harmless; certainly not worth Twilight interfering in that way.

I know it got last in that Reddit or wherever poll, but "Owl's Well That Ends Well" is hardly a bad episide. Certainly not at the level of the others. It will be neat to see Dusk's Dawn at last, though.

Oh right, I did forget that aspect of the episode somehow. It was sweet seeing motherly Twilight. Personally, I prefer Spike in a little brother role, though.

Every once in a while I run into a fic that takes a hard stance in favor of one of the three and it drives me nuts every time because their character dynamic just isn't that simple.

I feel like most of the Spike-focused episodes do a similar job of showing that he's very immature and self-centered. Stuff like Just For Sidekicks and Princess Spike show it as well. The trouble is that since he rarely actually shows these kinds of traits it doesn't feel like it's actually a part of his character and feels like they're just inventing flaws so they can try to teach him a lesson. I still don't like the episode but I feel like Equestria Games does a much better job at having a conflict that actually feels like something that gels with his behavior in most other episodes. Dragon Quest was similar but was ruined by the actual episode being dull.

There will be a 3D reboot film in 2019, followed by a 2D G5 TV series in 2020. There are various slides and even concept art. Sylvee is making a big post about the G5 information we have, so before that, I'll talk about today's RP event.

Tangerine World 2 - The Sleeping Unicorn. This is the next part in the multi-part story. What happened and what we know now below.

Summary
Following the events of Tangerine World 1 - Kangaroos, the girls and Spike go to the Canterlot Library to see if they can find more information. Fluttershy, Pinkie, and Spike go to one room in the library, and find themselves back in Tangerine World. They are locked in a room with a unicorn named Drowsy Moon, who's reading and didn't even notice he's locked in the room. Guards at the door refuse to let the heroes out, thinking they're illusions. After talking with some mice that made their home there, the heroes discover a secret passage. In there, they discover a magical device, and thinking it's the source of Drowsy's drowsiness, they disable it. As it so happens, it was a magic dampening device. Without it, when Drowsy falls asleep, a powerful variant of the Poison Joke that's embedded in his horn activates and makes his magic extremely powerful and uncontrollable. He forms a barrier around himself, flings objects around the room, and twists the passages in the library.

Learning from the panicking guards that his sister, the Royal Guard captain, Cloud Blazer, can wake him up, the heroes go to find her. They use Pinkie's Pinkie Sense to navigate the hallways. Along the way, they encounter illusions created by Drowsy's dreams, made real enough to interact with the real world. They find Cloud and are able to convince her that they're real. They lead her back to Drowsy, and distract some dream creatures while she wakes him up.

Back when the Everfree Forest first went out of control and surged past its old boundaries, Drowsy was caught in that and got the aforementioned Poison Joke variant. They weren't able to remove it, so until they figured out a cure, Cloud had him locked up in part of the library, knowing he wouldn't actually notice anything was wrong as long as he was given books to read. She had a magic dampening device installed that wasn't strong enough to hold back the full power of the curse, but could stop it from fully activating while he slept. This restricted illusions to inside the room, and they weren't strong enough to break out.

It turns out Cloud didn't tell Drowsy about what was going on because she didn't want to upset him, and she didn't have enough trust in him to manage his sleepiness, but she learned that only caused more trouble in the end. They make up, and the heroes find themselves back in their Canterlot, where Twilight is disappointed that she missed everything.

Another bit of notable information is that there is a Princess Moon in Canterlot, no relation to Drowsy. One of her nicknames is The Great Princess.

Setting
Canterlot, or at least the inside of the library, seems largely the same. We know from earlier that Celestia and Luna don't exist, and there aren't any princesses moving the sun and moon. However, there is a Princess Moon. The Captain of the Royal Guard isn't Shining Armor, but rather Cloud Blazer.

There are magic dampening devices.

* Drowsy Moon - A gray unicorn with dark blue hair, glasses, and bags under eyes. A flower bud grows out of his horn. When he's asleep, the flower blooms into a powered up Poison Joke. He's airheaded and doesn't notice what's going on around him, and he prefers to let things work themselves out anyway. Interested in books, but only fiction, which gives him some weird ideas for how things are. All the reading makes him fall asleep easily. Didn't even realize he was imprisoned in the library room, and thought his sister, Cloud Blazer, was being nice by letting him stay in the library for weeks on end.
Likes: Fiction books, being left alone
Dislikes: Having personal space invaded, clowns, giant floating body parts, hats, selfies
Cutie Mark: Book with a moon outside a window
* Mice family - Two older mice, and an older and younger child, living in a tiny house made of books in the library. Shy, but were willing to talk to Fluttershy. Have moved out of Drowsy's library room.
* Cloud Blazer - Captain of the Royal Guard and Drowsy Moon's older sister. Pegasus mare with yellow fur and spiky blue hair. Protective of her brother, but also condescending toward him. She learns to trust him more. Skilled with a spear and a good flyer.

At this point just want to say that all of the info from the leaks being discussed here are 100% verified. That does not mean that things can't change (and there's actually a lot of info about changing things) but at this point all the info we have so far is legit. I'll be largely talking about stuff pertaining to the new MLP series, which I will be referring to FiM 2.0 from now on because that is essentially what it's supposed to be according to the people working on it. First up, here's two scenarios they have planned. Scenario one is the current one that will be going forward, and the second is the plan that the guys working on the show are pitching to the higher ups. Big difference is the second 2D movie that they want to make as a finale for the series. This would push back the rest of the schedule one year meaning that the CGI movie wouldn't be competing with Frozen 2 and they would have a full year to continue building the new universe for the show to take place in. Either way Season 9 is definitely the last season and 2.0 is going to be coming out the spring after the CGI prequel movie comes out, which will be either 2019 or 2020. Think it goes without saying by reading the slides that the crew definitely want the second option, as do I.

On to some more finer details. A lot of this has to do with the actual story and characters for the new series so I'm spoiling it just in case. This stuff has the potential to massively change over time so don't freak too hard:

As the 2.0 implies it looks like the new series should largely have a lot of similarities with 1.0. The current idea seems to be to keep all of the Mane 6 largely intact, with the one major exception being Applejack. They're discussing changing the races of some of the mane 6, with the current idea is Fluttershy as a Unicorn, Pinkie as a Pegasus, and Twilight as an Earth Pony, however they're already discussing issues with the setup. Fluttercorn is apparently being fairly well-received and Twilight as an Earth pony is alright, but a lot of people are taking issues with Pinkiesus. Applejack they're dead-set on her not being the "hick" she currently is and are exploring a wide variety of options as to what they're going to end up doing with her. There's discussions of her being a reformee, which wouldn't surprise me given that Sunset and Starlight have both been very well-received overall and have had a lot of interesting plotlines opened up due to their ex-villain status. They're also talking about a name change as well. Below is some concept art as well as an email conversation venting about the 2019 CGI movie deadline as well as talking about directions for the show to go:

My own opinions on that info: From the looks of it each of the 3 races will start off the movie isolated from each other, and the movie will cause them to meet for the first time. They're still figuring out the mechanics of it (will they live in a new world they create together or go back to their original world?) but it sounds like a cool setup, and it opens up the possibility of the characters exploring new worlds featuring other species. It also allows them to start these characters from scratch and gives the crew a fresh slate so they can plan out character arcs in advance rather then them just happening when they do like they had traditionally happened in the show. The biggest example would be Starlight Glimmer's development since her inception, which has been carefully planned out and has overall been done very well. Comparing this to something like Rainbow becoming a Wonderbolt which just slowly happened over several seasons in random episodes and didn't really have any buildup to it aside from the episodes themselves where she reached milestones. With a goal in mind as to where they want to take these characters and a strong direction behind the show (which would be much easier with a reboot) these kinds of things would be a lot easier to pull off since they don't have to worry about contradicting a bunch of presetablished canon to do it.

There's a presentation slide that talks about their plans for the world going forward. Being a big fan of the show's world and lore implications, the idea that they'll be focusing more on those aspects has me excited. The idea of them adding in a "dark side" I'm a bit skeptical on but it looks like they're trying to build a cohesive world that not just the main show but potentially other stories can take place in. It being locked in as a 5 year show would also allow them to have much more control with the story as they know just how long these characters' arcs will have to go on for, whereas with 1.0 they never had much focus long-term up until recently since it was never a priority and most the old guard slowly left over the years. Also with other worlds they could easily have them interact with other Hasbro properties as well as possibly have a 1.0 and 2.0 crossover. (PLEASE)

That's nothing. They have full season 8 episode uploads as well that were released that were missing music and other late-production effects. Around 6 of the episodes were leaked in this way, in addition to all of the descriptions of the season 8 episodes. We'll be posting about that later.

Sheesh! This is pretty to see loads of leaks.

'Tis sad to read the show will end at season 9, but shows can't really last forever. And I certainly wouldn't want it to last so much the show will become stale and suffer more seasonal rot, which is a mix feeling I usually have with long runners like the Simpsons.

This generation 5 show will certainly be a tough act to follow, though I hope the writers of FiM continue to stay and transition to the new show. I just hope the animation style becomes impressive.

The fact that the next movie is CG does bother me, though can't judge until I see some preview. Would definitely like to see another follow up to the 2017 film and indeed would like the TV series to wrap things up there.

Still have yet to catch up to season 7, but might get started on binging it soon.

BTW another EQG short is up, and it looks like it's a choose your ending scenario.

One thing I found really interesting about the two proposed schedules is how they really consider Discovery Family to be an albatross around their neck. It looks like they had a ten year deal in place to produce content for Discovery, and it's listed as a positive for scenario 2 that G5 will start after the deal ends. I was wondering why FiM hadn't been shopped around to other networks. That and not having to compete with Frozen 2 makes it seem really likely that they'd go with scenario 2. Unless they're idiots.

I wasn't too keen on the way they were handling G5 under scenario 1, but I like scenario 2 a lot more, especially with FiM getting a 2D theatrical finale. It's still weird as hell that G5 will get a CGI movie and then a 2D animated series, with the intention to have celebrities voice the main characters in the former but not the latter, even if I totally get the marketing reasons.

I really like the general idea that G5 is going for more of an adventure feel with greater focus on story, including season long storylines. The season storylines in FiM always felt like they were trying to force them into a setup that really couldn't support them, with how each episode had to be standalone and tell a moral. Still, I hope they find room for fun slice of life stories.

One thing I find funny is that the page showing some proposed villain designs for G5 includes real life people as inspiration. And among the villain inspirations are Donald Trump's sons.

More spoilery G5 reactions.

I actually like that they're willing to change up the races of the characters. If the premise of the series is that different races are split into different worlds, then it makes a lot of sense for the perspective character, Twilight, to be an earth pony. That way we follow along with her to increasingly fantastical worlds, as opposed to going from unicorn fantasy forest world to earth pony mud world. Fluttershy as a unicorn is a bigger departure for me, so it surprised me to learn from Meghan's email that this was actually a big hit with everyone.

By the way, I'm willing to bet that Twilight doesn't stay an earth pony. She'll be one just long enough that people have to buy both earth pony and alicorn Twilight toys.

Though we joke about how boring and limited Applejack is, it surprised me that the show crew considers it a huge problem too, to the point that they don't want her to have any farming or country aspects in G5.

The premise of the three races being split was actually used in G3. Badly, but they used it there. We haven't seen anything about Spike, but we have seen mentions of dragons in general. It's possible that the ponies will meet Spike for the first time during the movie or show, which would be another thing taken from G3.

It will be really weird for a while, but I think they need to recast everyone for the G5 show. They clearly intend to use these characters for a while, so they need to establish the precedent of changing voice actors each show before it becomes an issue. Plus, this allows them to have 20th Anniversary Specials and hype them up with Tara Strong returning as Twilight, and such.

About season 8, I don't think there's much of a point in saying anything here other than the fact that it exists and episodes have been leaked. Though I will say I love some people on 4chan getting angry about the supposed anti-Trump premise of one story. I hadn't even thought about it like that until I saw those posts. As for how it leaked, apparently mixed in with the original leaked emails regarding FiM ending and G5, there were four username/password pairs for DHX's FTP server. This gave people access to all of their completely up to date episode files. DHX shut down the server, but not before six episodes were put on fire sharing sites.

EDIT: I'm now hearing that the leaker deliberately posted the account info separately from the email leaks, so it wasn't an accident.

Important thing to note on the G5 leak is that they seem to be in the earliest planning stages for something that isn't going to launch until 2020 or 2021. It doesn't even seem like they're at the "show bible" stage yet, and if you look at the G4 bible, things still changed between that and the final product.

The big thing is the race changes. I hope this doesn't happen. It seems like changes for the sake of changes, and I would rather they just create new characters.
