Well I've sold my Panasonic DX902 FALD, and have a 65" B7 coming Thursday.....hope I don't regret it lol.

In a dark room, is isf dark and OLED light at 35, enough luminance? Was hoping to avoid ABL.

Also is active HDR the real deal?

I bought the LG E7, but when I turn my Ps4 on it keeps telling me to change my TV settings because I can go higher in resolution. Apparently right now it's 2K. How do I make it 4K?

If it's the same message I got you need to turn on HDMI deep colour in general settings, I don't think it mentioned resolution though

So I'm pretty sure at this point I'm locked in at a 75" X900E.

Keeping my eye open for deals. Best right now looks to be open box certified at Best Buy for $2,631.

something must not be right, when I stream it seems that most of the screen is dark. the black parts of the screens are black, but it seems a lot of the screen is just blending in to the black. is that how it's supposed to be?

edit: this is me streaming hbo go through Ps4 pro

what's the best way to see if blacks are crushing?

I'm curious too. I put in the Rtings settings and then watched all kinds of footage. With black level set to darker I just increased brightness to see if there's detail in the blacks and indeed there was, quite a lot actually. So I set the black level in the brighter mode and then set my brightness lower until blacks were deep but not crushing any detail...

I'm using the HDMI cable that came with the Ps4 pro, I was told it is 4K

You can check from the PS settings what resolution it's pushing. In the video/audio - output info or something like that.

I also got a prompt when using Pro on the TV and it works fine. I didn't even need to mess with the deep colour HDMI setting at all, in fact I think it's greyed out for me.

You shouldn't be using Rtings settings to be honest. They are fine-tuned for their particular set, in their unique viewing conditions. Messing with 20-point settings will likely cause more harm than good, if you aren't calibrating to the room you are viewing in, and is likely why you are having issues with crushed blacks.

Thanks, I didn't mess with the white balance or gamut as they adviced this in their page. I just turned off all processing except dynamic contrast for HDR and took their basic settings for contrast/brightness/oled light as the starting point.

So I'll just trust my eyes :)

And I played Uncharted: Lost Legacy yesterday... this is the HDR benchmark experience. Even more than something like Stranger Things 2. Like I had to stop every minute of that game because I couldn't believe my eyes. Everyone with a HDR set owes themselves to try it out.

Interesting, might need to give those settings a shot, how does everything look?

I like my settings/picture natural. Yesterday i tried HDR settings with the punisher, which doesnt look very good, but i used colour vibrancy on high which brightens up the picture even more, too much I think.

For motion i currently use custom with 2 and 1. Film Mode high. Makes the picture 25% less bright but hey the TV has some reserves ^_^

I have this GPU, Palit Geforce GTX 1060 6gb gddr5, in my PC next to the TV. HDMI 2.0b, HDCP 2.2

Should I connect it directly to the TV, LG OLED55B7V, for best results or is it ok if it stays connected to the reciever (HDMI 1.4a).

I already have Xbox One X and PS4 Pro connected to the TV and the reciever connected to the ARC HDMI port. If I connect the PC to the TV there wont be any room for any more 4K/HDR tech like Apple TV 4K.
Can I buy a HDMI switch that supports 4K/HDR/DolbyVision/ARC?
If so I should put the same type of tech on each HDMI like Xbox and PS4 so picture settings are relevant for the port?

Okay thanks, I turned it on and now my Ps4 says 3840 x 2160 - 60 Hz, I'm guessing that means now it's in 4K?

How do I know if HDR is turned on?

Look in video output information in the PS4 settings, it should say HDR - 2k/4k supported and HDCP 2.2.

When something starts in HDR there's a symbol pops up on the TV

My LG C7 just arrived. Besides basic calibration stuff, is there anything else I should do when I first power it on? Do I need to "break it in" to ensure the best uniformity or to avoid image retention issues/burn-in down the line?

Do the usual 4 hour break-in and then shut it off and let it do the Pixel Refresher. No one knows if that really helps but it's been find for me so far.

Uncharted: Lost Legacy yesterday... this is the HDR benchmark experience

This is 100% the truth. I played through UC 4 earlier this year after I bought my C7, before LL was out, and there are just a million and one scenes where you just want to stop and look around. The lightning when it's stormy and the way it illuminates various surfaces looks incredble.

It doesn't hurt that there is some sort of absolute black magic going on in UC games from an AA perspective. There is not even the smallest amount of aliasing anywhere in that game, esp on PS4 Pro. ND's work in HDR thus far has been extremely impressive. I'm day one on last of us part 2 for that alone.

Maybe more to the point, I think it's the, if not one of the, definitive HDR experiences right now as an entire package. Right up there with Grand Tour (which can be a bit inconsistent if you really nitpick). Agree though that it's better than 95% of shows I've seen in HDR for certain.

Destiny 2's HDR is fucking superb stuff. Probably my favourite so far...

I totally agree......with the HDR comments. It's unfortunate they can't figure out a solid AA solution on PC, because aliasing is everywhere, even in native 4K.

From a purely HDR perspective, it is undoubtedly the benchmark on PC. First game where you didn't have to screw around in settings to flip HDR on and off in control panel, etc. It just works when the game turns on, and turns off when you close the application. Exactly like it should be.

I didn't like the look of it on mine (B6). Think my issue is I have my Pro running through my Denon receiver and it causes color banding when using pass through, quite severe too. I need to experiment with running it straight to my TV but I don't have an extra optical cable for audio.

It looks incredible on my E6. I said wow as soon as I turned it on.

Yep, that's likely your issue. There should be a lot of pop to the image if it's setup properly. Specifically, D2 does a great job with spectral highlights. In particular, when there are explosions from the various void abilities, esp the warlock's super, there is this explosion of color and brightness that I think looks really neat.

On a separate note, AC Origins got updated yesterday for HDR on PC and that looks fantastic as well.

I had to end up hooking my Oppo 203 direct to the TV for the same reason. I meant to try it back when I first played Horizon as the sky in it was always filled with color banding.

Edit: I don't really need an optical cable for the Pro if I could ever get ARC to work. I had to end up using optical out from the B6 to the receiver for the TV apps.

Hmmmm.... I had the same issue also. It was ultimately because I had the input icon set to PC on my C7. I know if you have a black level mismatch between PS4 and TV, sometimes that will create banding also (and further compounded by the fact that the setting is different if you're using a Pro vs standard PS4).

If you had the issue with your 203 though, it's likely the AVR. I ended up going Anthem this time around because I used to never be able to fully defeat the video processing in Denons (and most AVRs) and would run into those kinds of issues?

How do you like your 203? Mine's still in the box (since October...).

Pretty sure it is the receiver. PQ on the Oppo was pristine as soon as I ran it direct to the B6.

Creeping closer and closer to CES. Any rumors of what we might see there in terms of new TV tech or models?

I really need games to ship with HDR brightness options.

PUBG looks pretty dark on One X, but that game has it's own set of technical issues at the moment on consoles.

Which Denon are you using? I don't notice any banding on mine with passthrough. I was playing Night in the Woods over the weekend and the gradients were smooth as hell.

I think you have to do optical. I think ARC utilizing pass through is limited to 2ch LPCM. I don't think my C7 can do 5.1 out via ARC either if it's used as a pass through function. Different than if the signal originates in the set itself (like any of the streaming apps)

The HDR worked fine on Resident Evil VII PC
