I feel like the top level of racing is just too much for me. The last second on the leaderboards requires simply unrealistic setups and driving lines. It feels like everyone is just exploiting the weaknesses in the physics engine to nail down the corners as fast as possible, without any realism.

I admit, I've been taping up my Dual Shock's right stick and letting my car do time trial laps on the oval circuit, just so I can at least reach my daily mile bonus car.
I am just in such a crunch period with work that I have no time at all to play. :(

Also, yay my account got approved!

Made it to S rank in Sportsman rating today. Now I need to move out of D DR rank! Absolutely loving this game, it's an incredible online experience.

These are my feelings too. The game was much better when tunes were locked. The leader boards were about tenths and hundreds of seconds. Now someone knocks 4 seconds off an already fast lap between day one and day two of the track. I learn racing lines, but I don't have time to tune all day and copyin other tunes is always a mixed bag if they clash with your driving style. I think I am going to intentionally drive bad to rank down. DR B and SR S in my region is not fun. I know the three names that will be on pole depending what time I sign in. One guy just stays in for hours, plugging his YouTube channel. There is no motivation to do well in terms of a broader goal. ranking up had made the game marginally worse for me.

Do you need bunch of wins just for jump to SR A rank or honest driving is more important?

Ignore the leaderboards. Look at who you are racing against and the top qualifying times in that group. The top leaderboard times often push track limits to the maximum and are one off laps, there's no way you'd be able to consistently lap at those times in a race situation without racking up penalties because they are right on the edge.

There was one guy in an SR A race that I did earlier and he had a high 1:41s time and qualified first. He crashed out on the second lap and ended up finishing 5th. The next best qualifying times were a couple of high 1:42s times and I started in 4th with a 1:53.2.

Not everyone is doing it, those guys are in the minority and when you face them in race situations its a whole different ball game.

Do you need bunch of wins just for jump to SR A rank or honest driving is more important?

No, just clean racing.

I love the game but jesus...it needs content...badly.
From December 4th 2013 to September 30th 2015 we've had updates from 1.1 to 1.21 and I didn't pay for anything. The list is substantial from car packs to courses and even the course maker (which I thoroughly enjoyed). Peep the link for me info: https://www.gtplanet.net/tag/gt6-updates/

Some lowlife asks for a clean race before the race, but then proceeds to be the one to ram into people after being behind. I can't wait for these people to be filtered out. I need to get into SR A or SR S asap.

SR B felt really good. SR A even better. Haven't made it to S yet. I feel like people just don't give enough space to heading into a corner. They feel as if they need that extra bit ground to make the pass. In reality, if you caught up to a person in front, you can be a bit more patient and make a pass appropriately. I still am guilty of following too close because I always think P1 but I should really just let the race go the way it flows. I don't need P1 to advance every race.

It's possible that we will learn about the DLC plans tomorrow from the Paris Games Week.

I wouldn't get my hopes up but it'd be a nice surprise.

I need more people on my list. Add me Kaze13

Stripper13 I'm pretty certain I raced against you and many others in GT6. Let's race again!

It was a problem in Driveclub but losing SR rating for being bumped from behind and off-track is kinda sucky, I hope they can tweak whatever algorithms are discerning who loses points. Thankfully, the rest of the race was clean and the player who was bumping others ended up losing.

I don't know, i really like the driving, but online has been a frustrating experience so far. Constantly being knocked off the track is starting to get old already.. Also had i known tuning was such a big part i would have never bought the game, right now there's really no reason to join a race if you don't know how to tune your car for the track you're on (if you want to win, that is). And don't have neither the interest nor the time for tuning.

I'm in DR - D, SR - B.

Hmm odd.... I am B and rarely see any bumping anymore. I mean I don't hhave any of the issues you are having at all. It puts me with people similar to my skill and SR, almost all races are really clean, more than any other racing game I have played, except maybe iRacing.

If you're playing to win every race you're doing it wrong. Do you happen to watch F1 at all? I think having that experience to relate to has helped me a lot. There are plenty of teams in F1 that know they can't win but each race they work on racing clean, getting to the finish, and improving their car setup so they can slowly start improving to be able to compete someday.

Since I've taken that approach it has helped me not only get to SR A but I'm also enjoying every race so much more. I'm cautious of everyone in front and behind me. Each pass I make is only if I'm 100% sure it'll work. And if someone behind me looks dangerous I let them go. It was hard at first but its so rewarding to have a clean race where I gained 1 or 2 spots.

It's not just one person though. Most people who have been doing this race for the last few days have been fine tuning their own or other people's tunes. There's not just one tune out there that guarantees success, it's about tuning the car in a way that it suits your driving style. Then there's the fact that you need to learn the track inside out.

There is one race that doesn't allow tunes if you prefer to race identical cars but the other 2 races where tunes are allowed make sense. They are GT3 and GT4 class races where in real life the teams would spend a few days practicing at the track, working with the drivers to get a tune that suits the track sorted out. Then they qualify, then they race. This is supposed to somewhat simulate that experience.

Just a week ago people were complaining that tuning was pointless because you couldn't do it in sport mode and now that it is included we have people complaining that it's "cheating"? It's not cheating, applying somebody else's tune isn't going to make you magically faster, you still need to be very good to get toward the top of the qualifying leaderboards.

I can't really relate because I welcome the inclusion and digging into the tuning menu over the last few days has taught me a lot about how the physics model works in this game and about my preferred driving style. Maybe the solution would be to hav 2 options for each race, one for tuning and one that prevents tuning.

I get that it's more punishing on those who play this more casually but then that's where the driver rating should place you with drivers at a similar skill level with similar qualifying times.

If the game had in-depth tutorials about how tune settings affect the car's performance and how to tune for different types of scenarios, then okay, maybe I'd have a more positive view of it. But right now tuning favors people with lots of time on their hands to tweak and people who have been playing every GT. And I could spend half a day in the tuning menu and still not know if I was making changes that ultimately helped my time. I mean I spent an over an hour last night trying to tune a 458 setup and don't think I really made my lap times any different. I just wasted time moving knobs back and forth. I'm not an expert mechanic and don't know much about the workings of race cars, I just know how to drive them.

I'm not bitter about it, but I think it penalizes players that want to race competitively but don't have a deep history with the series or don't have all day to tweak-and-test, tweak-and-test. There's a sort of elitism in the viewpoint that you're "casual" if you aren't already an expert at it. And that's a continual problem I see with the game's intent -- it wants to take the GT casual audience and shift them to competitive online racing, but it doesn't put in the work to get people to that point. I learned more in watching that cheeseball Skip Barber video you posted than all the license tests in the game.

I think they will continue to have a mix of tuning allowed and tuning restricted races and IMO that's how it should be. Tuning is a part of most real life racing series. As for finding tunes, GTPlanet is a great source for finding tunes quickly and someone earlier posted a link to Praiano's Tunes on YouTube. He makes great tunes that are very drivable. Minkihl seems to be posting fast tunes specific to the Sport races specific to the cars and tracks.

First post here, it feels great!!

Just a heads up for someone on the fence, GIMX works great, in a matter of an hour i finaly made my G27 work again with the PS4, and the game is so much better.

As anyone got some information if there will be time trials like in GT5 and GT6?

Finally got below 2:00 on Nurb GP with the Porsche (did a low 1:59). Did 2 races yesterday and started on 4th and 5th and finished both on 3rd and finally got to S SR!
This races are intense as hell!!
It is like playing iRacing for the first time 4 years ago with the mazdas, that feeling when you nail a lap without errors, keep up with the guy ahead and behind, trying to not fuck up your race and other people's race.

Setting qualifying times and actually racing are two different beasts entirely. I see some asking for PD to allow qualifying with others........I don't think that will end well tbh.

Oh I'm not talking about accidental bumps. I can be guilty of doing that as well. This particular guy I'm talking about bumped me twice, the second time he pretty much flew into me full speed. Obviously no accident. If you can't win the race anymore then why not just focus on your SR rating? That's what I do whenever I fall too far behind. Makes you wonder how that guy got up to SR B in the first place.

Anyway, fortunately these types of racers are rare in GTS so I won't let it ruin my enjoyment. I remember how stuff like that was normal in other online racing games! GTS is good. Really good.

I hate those dive bombers with a passion. Fortunately, I think PD tweaked the penalties because those guys get a sever penalty now. However, I really hate that you, as the bumpee, get the slight ding in SR but also time penalty because you ran off track! Fuck that.

I did have this guy who, when he was well ahead of me (two places up), intentionally slow down to meet me. I thought he was just shaving off some penalty time but he proceeded to sideswipe me off the track. Then, I catch up to him and he braked checked me. I pass him. He bumps me from behind. I ran a clean race prior to that so I was thoroughly confused. I have no idea why he had such a vendetta. Thankfully, I put together a good lap and left him behind. I then messaged him after but never got a response.

I agree. Whenever I feel disappointed about my race where I finish few positions better than I started, I try to force myself to turn PS4 off. It's no use trying to force it.

You should have to set a qualifying time every race if not at least once a day. It only encourages people to find the limits of physic and course limit exploits when one lap can bank you 50 pole positions.

This is exactly my philosophy and I'm really enjoying Sport mode. I'm happy if I raced well and stayed clean, whether that means I gained, maintained, or lost position.

Last night I was in a race where most people were driving clean, and I avoided hitting anyone (this is more stress-inducing than trying to win). A couple people tapped me...I mean barely touched metal to metal...and I still got green sectors. Yet at the end of the race, I got no clean race bonus. This feels really unfair. I tried my very hardest to race cleanly, yet because some people weren't paying attention in a pack of drivers, I got dinged for a minor brush.

Yeah, Driveclub did a lot of things right and stats was one of them. I want detailed stats about how I'm racing so I can see where to improve. I'd also like to see lap times broken down into sector times so I can compare with others and see what part of the track I'm slow on.

One of the in-game achievements track the number of fastest laps in Sport races, but yeah more stats would be welcome.

I'd like to see 1 race be a fixed setup race like iRacing, 1 race be a spec race, and the final race be an open setup race. There's the risk of the fixed setup race being a race dominated by one or two cars, but we're already seeing that with the Gr.4 GT-R on Kyoto.

Or PD could loosen up with the DR/SR matchmaking, e.g. mixed DR fields, S/A SR mixing. I'm B/S DR/SR as well and I recognize many of the drivers in the Kyoto Gr.4 lobbies.

I'm trying to watch race replays from other drivers within GTS (action camera) and cannot figure out a way to turn off the names above the cars. Help, please?
