Cup of Jones quote, from Kyle on the E3 bets this year: "We have a plan. It's something new and weird, and it won't be just me and Huber."

Meh. Not huge into that. I want classic Kyle/Huber betting specials back.

So weird that Jones mentions in CoJ that they might drop TTE as a goal for June as they focus on E3 and to be transparent, yet Game Sleuth sits there every month without an update.

I love the classic betting specials, but I only want the classic betting special if Kyle and Huber still want to do them. They have done them for a very long time, so I can imagine some fatigue.

I am curious on what it's going to be though and will reserve my judgement for after I have seen what they have come up with.
I'm sure it will be fun.

TTE is on hiatus, Game Sleuth isn't, so that makes sense to me. That said, I do think it's weird to remove TTE from the goals for a while and then possibly put it back, but I generally don't care too much what is set as goals or not, so it doesn't really matter too much.

I honestly don't think it matters a lot and I am not convinced if the goals really drives the patreon. I personally don't think they do. I spend what I currently can/am willing to spend and there are not a lot of goal changes that are going to change that. I can imagine this being different for other people, but I can't see the goals bring in a lot of new people who otherwise weren't interested in being a patron. E3 specific goals (or the specific drive for E3) is something different, I do think those work as we have seen in the past. But that's because some people don't want to spend a monthly amount (or don't like patreon), but are willing to donate once in a while for something like that (and because it's addicting to see that meter go up). Also because they seem to have a generous community in general.

The goal list is just a list to me. I am always happy if they pass it obviously, because I want them to be a successful as possible, but those goals by itself are not going to bring them a 1000 new patrons. More good content, exposure and time will.

ShockorScoff dot com is live and now in Alpha (limited functionality, read-only), so I promise I haven't been yapping in this thread without receipts. Currently it successfully reads from a Google Sheet and can show live data visualization based on submissions, but the Submit section is disabled until all good to go. The Results page is reading from that simple Sheet so the answers are boring. My hope is to have a version ready some time within the next week to have everyone do a test run using a previous year's bets.

Once it's all ready, after submitting your answers, an image will be generated (below is what is currently generated by the site code) along with a link to your submission. You can post the image on Twitter or right here to show off your answers in style. Would you use this generated image and do you like how it looks?

It got me so pumped to hear that. So happy others are still in AND that it'll be weird.

Just watched the latest LiS 2 Spoiler Mode, great stuff still, love having Elyse there.

Huber describing the heist, and Elyse getting all giggly when talking about Sean and Cassidy were both 10/10 lol

Tbh this is kinda meh. I've fallen off KF for a while. I know Jones is hype on them at least.
While I don't really watch KF either, I do remember Huber and Jones at the KF boot at E3 and I do think they did have a good chemistry back then.
I also think it's a good way to get new eyes on EZA. So even though I am not super hyped on it either, I do believe it will probably help getting the EZA name out there. I think it's a good move.

Even though I am not always a super big fan of guests (I do think most of them worked well, eg. I did enjoy the GameXplain Friend Code on one of the previous E3s), it is great to see that the studio is making it easier for them to have guests and collabs as I honestly think it will help EZA grow.

Who knows who else they can get?

Conversely, I've wanted Jones to be on Giant Bomb's nightly E3 shows for several years now.

No shade meant for Jones but I would rather see huber or boss-baby on giant bombs night show. Ian would be great too. Someone to roll in and start throwing around some hottakes and really make an impression.

I don't mean view wise (I personally couldn't care less about youtube views by itself), I mean getting new people to know EZA is always beneficial.
I don't think they should try to be KF or that they "need" KF, but name recognition and new eyes on EZA is a good thing.

Having guests/colleagues on is always a good way to get new people to know EZA, which means new possible patrons (and indeed youtube subs), so it means possible growth.

Can we not? Not only is it dumb but yes, kinda funny is still way bigger then eza. YouTube views are not everything.

How do we know KF is bigger? I don't follow KF but they don't share how much patreon cash they get right? And EZA has more patrons? I know KF has two patterns but I'm assuming there's a a significant amount of peopke who sub to both?

I don't really follow KF so just asking out of curiosity. Not that it matters who is bigger.

This is obviously all anecdotal evidence off the top of my head but reading between the lines it's clear that they are doing quite well.

Kinda funny raised over $100,000 when they had a fundraiser earlier this year. I cant find a source for the number but I remember them saying it multiple times.

They've been to Australia not to mention the multistop meet and great tour spanning the United states, Canada and london they've been doing this year.

Tim gettys was on Forbes 30 under 30 list.

They are hiring, just this year they brought on two new employees. Granted one of them was filling a empty position but still.

They have also loosely mention moving into a bigger studio space, so the hear that eza gets a studio kinda funny is looking into moving into its second office.

They also make a ton of money off ads (via their MCN, Rooster Teeth) and Greg Miller's appearance fees, which he rolls back into the company.

Their Patreons before they hid the figures were at around 25-30k each. That was over two years ago and I doubt they've shrank much.

I am unclear why EZA needs to have a mercantile view as to the guests they have in their studio. Sure, everybody wants to expand their audience but that should never be the driving factor. Kinda Funny will be in LA for a few days and I think it would have been disappointing if they hadn't been asked over to the studio. Tim was hugely in to Game Trailers and has always been hugely supportive of EZA. I, for one, will have a big smile on my face seeing him in the EZA studio.

They don't "need" them. However, I think there is potential to grow EZA (even if just a little) through them.

I agree with this take, too. I obviously always want to see EZA grow (sustainably), but it doesn't always have to be about gaining views and patrons.

Is Kinda Funny just gonna be on post shows/podcasts or the live reactions to the conferences as well? I really hope that's not the case. Tim does those fake youtuber overreactions that I can't stand. With the allies you know their excitement is legit but so many other folks drum it up for views.

They're coming on Friday, which is just going to be a big impressions day from what I understand.

Ok great! Thanks for letting me know. Shouldn't be an issue for me personally than if all they're doing is giving impressions. With how many people it takes to see all the games e3 has to offer having some outside perspectives to flesh things out will be fine.

You gotta admit it was great though when he threw his hat and spilled that drink on Andy's laptop, completely ruining it.

Also this. Everyone in the industry is friends with each other. Why not have your friends come over to your new place?

You can't honestly believe the Allies' reactions are not hammed up, even if ever so slightly?

Ben, Huber and Ian in particular all go a little overboard at times.

Yeah you're right It can feel that way sometimes, no argument there. Guess I just meant that it pails in comparison compared to the vast majority of Youtubers, including kinda funny who go way way over the top sometimes.

With the Allies I feel like more often than not it's real genuine emotion. Rather than it being in the back of their minds "gotta play this up for views".

Guess the only group I follow where I feel like they rarely if ever go overboard is maybe Giant Bomb.

The GoT discussion felt a clear example of people having a certain ending in their minds and when that isn't going to happen the show suddenly is bad.

I wished they invited someone with a different opinion. This felt like 1,47 hours of bashing the show because one character took a different turn. Game of Ownes, Screen junkies, Storm of spoilers and many more podcasts al had interesting discussions. This unfortunately wasn't one of them

One character? They made good use of those 1,47 hours bashing on Dany, Jaime, Cersei, Arya, Sandor, Jon, Varys, Euron and Martha! And all for good well-articulated reasons, too.

It's really not that easy to find anyone happy with the turns the episode took. Jones even tried "inviting" other voices by bringing up his friend who wasn't as down on the show, but he didn't have much of a defense to relay, and chat wasn't in a satisfied mood that day, either.

Kinda funny was able to discuss the episode in a proper way, this was no discussion but a roast.

Seems appropriate.

Honestly, I checked out the intro round of the Kinda Funny review for their first impressions and I'm sure the discussion goes deeper than those quick surface level "I enjoyed the cool spectacle" takes, but drop any of those guys or the gal into a debate with Jones and Amanda (Damiani was putting on a brave effort trying to rescue some optimism from his own disappointment) and the pushback would make both of them go in that much harder on the show's faults than if you just let them vent a bit.

Considering we've had reports from the stall of a bathroom while Huber was talking to Brad while being very Huber, and Huber on the Labo video not realising they were recording it and syndroming out over Yakuza 6, I actually doubt he is.

If you haven't met the Allies (particularly Huber)
You might believe it's a bit fake..
I've met Huber and all the 9 (minus Don) 2times.

Trust me, especially with Huber, there is no hamming it up. Doesn't matter if he's on camera or off, the energy and vibe level he exudes and is able to inject others around his with is 100% real and authentic (and the others as well of course!) The only difference is they (I think except for Bloodworth) swear way more off cam;)

Just one more Huber annecdote, my first IRL experience with the Allies was at their very first semi official meet up (the premiere of Kingsglaive October?? 2016??). Next I saw them was at PSX a month or two later. I was just on the show floor roaming with some people I had be-friended while waiting to go in...and suddenly a hand clasps my shoulder, in my surprise I turn and there was Huber!! I said you remember me? And i think he said of course, I never forget a face. Amazing dude!

I am so happy for their success, and am proud to continue to support the Allies!

Yeah, Huber in particular is just a very authentically exuberant personality. Back in the GT days when I was only really watching Final Bosman, the glimpses of Huber from that always had him exuding high energy and good vibes.

Yep.

On the subject of TTE dropping from Patreon, hopefully it will be like Retros..IE it will continue, but only when Ben and company feel they they have the time and energy to do so. I totally understand Ben (and some of the others?) wanting to step away from it for a bit, after all they have essentially been at it since EZA began (with maybe a month or 2 break). I would be quite sad if they really tabled...it for good though.

I can guarantee anyone claiming any of the Allies are faking their reactions has never felt the buzz of being on a live stream during E3 hyped up on caffeine and living the good life.
