Game of Thrones finale is rated 4.8/10 on IMDB after 70000+ votes; lower rated than finales for Lost and HIMYM, currently ahead of Dexter finale by .1

So it looks like people are on the whole extremely unhappy with the Game of Thrones finale...

Currently, the finale has a rating of 4.8/10 on IMDB, after more than 70,000 votes. To compare with other divisive finales, Lost's The End has an 8.3/10, while How I Met Your Mother has a 5.5/10, so Game of Thrones' finale has been received worse.

The good news is, Dexter's finale has a 4.7/10 on IMDB, so at the very least Game of Thrones is currently beating that.

I actually enjoyed the finale, and expected its reception to be in the middle of the road as far as Season 8 episodes have gone, so I am a bit taken aback at how much people hate it. But I think burning through all your goodwill with a rushed bunch of final episodes will make people less likely to extend any benefit of the doubt to you.

Fans are good at hyperbole and letting their voice heard through votes so I'm not surprised by this.

See the number of 1 star votes. Between this and the season 8 rewrite petition it's been a shitshow and embarassment. Just don't fucking watch TV then and do something more productive with your time if this is the attittude you're going to have.

People were way too invested in the characters on this one. This was predictable from the beginning and it doesnt picture the actual quality of the episode imo

I haven't even watched Game of Thrones since season 5 and there's no way it's anywhere near as bad as Dexter

It's completely useless to compare, it all comes down to who has the biggest community to spam 1 star. All season 8 episodes have been raided, even episode 1 and 2 retroactively, so there's nothing to learn here except that some people are pissed. The numbers themselves lost their meaning.

It was ridiculously bad I dont understand how some of you are defending it at all

It was not good by any means except the first minutes which had great photography and atmosphere

All in all it was EXTREMELY dumb and ridiculously BORING

.1 Ahead of Dexter finale? Shaking my head. The Dexter finale is at least 5/10 points below GoT's finale.

Just goes to show you how user backlashes don't necessarily translate to some objective measure of quality.

Anytime Dexter is brought up and I remember the finale I laugh.

Game of Thrones wasn't good but it wasn't that comical levels of bad.

GoT also has about 5x more reviews than any of those finales after one day. I'm not sure how fair the comparison is because mass review-bombing/downvoting is significantly more prevalent today than during the era of these other shows.

HIMYM's finale was terrible.


I don't think GoT's finale deserves that low of a score, but I can't really argue with the people disappointed by the squandered potential.

As expected. I enjoyed it for what it was though. Despite the execution being worthy of execution I liked the ending. Everyone got somewhat of a happy ending and all of the remaining Stark children got a happy ending as well.


Looking forward to seeing how the books properly explain how we arrive at the ending we got though. The context and the details that the show left out has me curious.

I wonder how S7 would be rated if people knew this is how S8 was gonna turn out. A lot of the same problems existed then but I think we gave it a pass because we hoped the next season would be better.

If I were to review it I'd give it a 6. Most people who are genuinely unhappy with the quality of the finale (like I am) go straight to 0 though.

People keep calling this "review bombing" and "vocal minority" and so on, guys, the critical reception of the episode is also more or less this bad.

The entire show is about how that Ted guy met his children's mother
S1 he dates Robin, dates her a few times and breaks up a few time with her. They always hang out anyway.
In the penultimate season though, Robin decides to get married to Barney, another friend (NPH)
The whole entire season is about their wedding. Ted meets the mother at the wedding, a whole episode is about letting go of Robin.

Then in the last episode, he meets the mother, there's a montage of them being happy, having children, then he says she died. First twist.
Oh and the Barney and Robin wedding didn't work so they split after a few years. Second twist.
Jump to present day and the kids are like "you should totally fuck aunt Robin". Then he does. Third twist.

The only thing that really matters for shows like this is the engagement. 70,000 people voted. More than all the other shows you mention combined.
