Played and loved DS1 and DS2, never played Demon's Souls or owned a PS3 though. What do you guys recommend doing to enjoy it best? Build a beefy PC to emulate it or get a PS3?

I mean it works surprisingly well on the emulator and has support for higher resolutions, so I would actually recommend that.
Still has a few glitches though. Last time I checked, it wasn't displaying your shield... idk if they have fixed that yet.

Cool, thanks for the reply. I've been wanting for a while to try 100+ Hz gaming anyway so it might be the best choice for me.

Going to do a double shield build in DS2 next. I'm finally starting to run out builds to try at this point lol.

I had a thread on GAF titled "Dark Souls 2 make me like Dark Souls 1 more" or something like that.
That was during my first ever run of the game, the SoftFS version. Now I'm on the more standard opinion of "its lows are very low, but its highs are very high".

It's still such a frustrating game to me because when it is bad, it is really an objectively bad game. But then you get to the "DLC" areas (which aren't quite DLC on the SoftFS version) and you clearly see the problem isn't inherently in the game or any of the systems, just on baffling decisions regarding level design (aka. Why so many enemies? Why the game doesn't allow itself to just be dark souls?).
But then DLC is soooo good. Levels are so creative, nothing feels bullshit-y, bosses are amazing and challeging. And so all that frustration of going through the base game feels rewarded.
But then again, the fact that you spend so much of the game os stuff that just isn't that good is...urgh, so frustrating.

They didn't go into the details in as to what happened, but in the interview they did for the Dark Souls 2 Design Works book revealed that the original director, Tomohiro Shibuya, got kicked off the project halfway through the development of Dark Souls 2 and the guy who replaced him, Yui Tanimura, had to re-purpose practically everything that was released in the final game in 2014 initially. Hell, it's even the first question they answered in the interview (click here).

his meant everything from deciding new roles for characters to finding ways to slot locations into the world map. This unusual development cycle faced us with an entirely different set of problems and looking back on the project as a whole it was at times, arduous. Although I'm confident that none of this will be felt by the players and I'm completely satisfied with the final product.

Nope. Totally felt it. lol

That bladestone talk reminds me when I "tried" to farm Out of Shape ATT UP Bloodtinge weapons on Bloodborne. And I say tried because I never managed to get it drop lol (only got Bloodtinge saling but that sucks).

Just out of interest, are you using the Uchi? My go to weapon for first plays!
That is exactly what I'm using. It's a great weapon. I'm trying to figure out if I should raise the Heide Knight Sword above +3 as well. It's got the bolt effect, which would probably do well for my dex faith build, but it's not exactly doing much to stuff in Iron Keep currently. I'm probably going to do Shaded Woods before I tackle the Keep though. Should I also be using pyro spells? I'm also using Magic Weapon, it's pretty good. I also wonder how good Dark Weapon is as well since I can look at hexes since I have to level up magic and faith.

Ooo, a Souls community thread? We didn't have this back in the day, did we?

Frigid Outskirts though? Although I do agree that the DLC is a step above the main game even if they do feature too many enemies for my personal tastes.

I was expecting the Frigid Outskirts to be so much worse (it's possible the SotFS version was easier than the original?). Instead, I got a level that beautifully simulated being lost in a snowstorm. The main thing I remember from it is getting this rare feeling of "ahh, shelter" whenever I found a building.

The DLC level that I did take issue with, though, was the bonus level filled to the brim with samurai/ninja/can't even remember anymore enemies. That final boss (samurai dude) was fantastic, but man... I ended up putting on a podcast, and just mindlessly killing enemies in repetition until enough stopped respawning that I had a clear path to the boss. In retrospect...that approach might have negatively colored my experience there.

To be fair, I'm rubbish at the weapons and stats side of the Souls. So long as I can use a katana, I've got my Dex build sorted.

STILL working on Scholar of the First Sin. It's taking me forever, but I just can't get enough.

After attempting Frigid Outskirts and hating life, I went back and tried Brume Tower instead. Yes, I'm doing the DLC out of order. That said, Brume Tower is actually a pretty fun area and right up there with Elium Loyce. It reinvigorated my interest in fighting on.

Frigid Outskirts is the only level I refuse to beat in the entire series.
I killed every other boss in the series at least once, minus the optinal boss from DS3 DLC.
My PS3's harddrive was full and something had to go.

Brume Tower is one of my favorite areas in the entire series. I love the way it opens up after you start the furnace.

Hell, I don't even mind the Iron Passage. The gauntlet before Alonne on the other hand...

Ok, so I got back into Bloodborne today, tried the chalice dungeons out and fell back in love with the game. I got through the first two levels in about 15 mins and realised just how far I actually got in the main game. One thing I will say though is that I'm kind of lost where I am and what to do. Yahar'Gul is my target, but my character and weapons need to level up big time if I'm going to survive there.

Already attempted Smelter Demon without success. It isn't even that hard, but when it comes to Souls I just mess up too much, lose endurance, and can't keep the momentum going.

Plus I hate bosses that make you run through a gauntlet of enemies first.

It's weird that back in DS1 I was good enough to take out Ornstein and Smough in a single try but these days I get tripped up by these bosses with easy patterns like Smelter Demon and Lud/Zallen.

I will forever hate the Iron Passage. Nothing can convince me that this place doesn't suck. It's worse than the Frigid Outskirts by far.

With a bow and some patience it's not that bad.

I find the Memory of the Old Iron King worse. You've got a time limit, way too many Alonne Knights aggroing at the same time, and a much more difficult boss.

That's the problem. It's near impossible to speed run through because of the mages that slow you down, so if you die at the boss or anywhere else, you gotta re-take everything down. And the mobs have a lot of health and take forever to whittle down with a bow, like the ghosts with the greatbows and they're immune to poison too. Patience has its limits. The alternative "shortcut" path is too unreliable.

And if you don't have a bow, Gwyn help you. If you're a mage you're even more SOL.

I find the Memory of the Old Iron King worse. You've got a time limit, way too many Alonne Knights aggroing at the same time, and a much more difficult boss.
Is the time limit even real in that one? It never ever expired for me even when I took the time to explore everything, kill every knight, etc.

I hate the Iron Passage but it's definitely easier than the Frigid Outskirts for me. IP is usually a 5-10 attempts run in a playthrough, while the FO is a 10-20 attempts run. I don't even have a problem with Smelter 2.0, while Lud and Zallen are my least fave kitties of all time.

Not talking about Smelter. There are waaaay better bosses fortunately :)

How? Those mages slow you down constantly. I don't think I ever managed to run past everything without taking some damage at least. It's annoying.

Yeah it's annoying but you can still run/walk through the area and roll when you need to. It's 100% possible to not take damage,it's just tricky.

Iron Passage is horrible, at least the other two similar areas are relatively straight forward runs to the boss. Iron Passage is just mean and annoying!

At one point, I could run through Iron Passage and get hit just once. It's tedious but nothing like Frigid Outskirts.

I had to aggro certain groups to make it through or else get hammered. One of my least enjoyable areas

Someone on the other forum made a topic about demon souls coming to switch.
Since someone started posting NSFW pictures the topic derailed but can someone here confirm this or are they just rumors?
