Been a bit out of the loop lately so I had no idea Timespinner is releasing on Switch, I really recommend that one, it's very special. I played it on Vita back in February and my only big complaint was that it was 30FPS (I hope it's not the case on Switch).

The game took me 8 hours and a half to complete, is gorgeous, has a very strong presentation with a unique style and great, great soundtrack and a surprisingly good story. I'm not one to care that much about story in this kind of game but it really impressed me.

From a gameplay perspective I found it a bit easy (though not SOTN easy), but the quests were fun to do and the combat very enjoyable, with an Order of Ecclesia-like system for customizing your individual attacks.

It has multiple (actually meaningful) endings too, so I'm considering double dipping.

Is it 20 euros/dollars worth though?

So what are the odds that Cadence of Hyrule launches during Nintendo's E3 presser?

99%
Here we go!
Whilst it looks like yr standard point and click adventure, it isn't!
Think of it more as a visual novel with interactive elements, gameplay takes it's form in that of a collection of mini games. One of the first 'puzzles' has you quite literally sculpting implants whereby you have to control an implement cutting into 'clay' to match customers' requirements.
The bulk of the gameplay is conversation based, a patron comes into the bar and you have to plug them for info by mixing drinks (kinda like Va11 ha11a). You have to mix a drink that will push their emotions into a certain direction that will get you your desired conversational results. This is done via a screen where you have 4 main spirits and some extras to coerce the customer into talking. Each spirit has a direction on the bottle which when poured, moves the cursor in that direction to an emotion.

It's a really interesting game that unfortunately comes off as more of an experimental tech demo as I felt the story didn't really wrap up at the end.

It's definitely worth a tenner if you enjoy games such as Danganronpa or Phoenix Wright, I.e. visuals novels with a small gameplay element.

Hope that helps!

*edit* it's probably worth mentioning that it did have a small amount of controversy on release as it features a puzzle that 'deadnames' a trans person. However the experience I took away from it was that it was done with no malice, just that the developers didn't really think about the social implications of such actions.

Thanks mate, that really helped and I'm definitely going to grab it now :)

Only thing I saw from glancing at reviews here and there was USGamer mentioning a few small issues

"All of this serves to make Slay the Spire a beautiful fit for Nintendo Switch in particular... assuming you're willing to overlook a few tech problems. On Switch, Slay the Spire will occasionally take a beat to load in cards, or encounters in general. It also crashed on me on two occasions, which appeared to reset the encounter that I was in. All of this happened while I was in handheld mode, so portable players take heed. "

Some people on reddit are complaining about hitches and crashes too. Waiting for some more impressions before I bite.

I just finished SteamWorld Quest recently so I'm ok on card battlers for now. Maybe it'll be on sale before I start craving for a new one again :)

Somewhere. I think.
NA:

  • Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch
    • Slay the Spire – The Slay the Spire game fuses card games and roguelikes to make a dynamic single-player deck-builder. Discover hundreds of cards to add to your deck with each attempt at climbing the Spire. Select cards that work together to efficiently dispatch foes and reach the top. Whenever you embark on a journey up the Spire, the layout differs each time. Choose a risky or safe path, face different enemies, choose different cards, discover different relics and even fight different bosses. Craft a unique deck, encounter bizarre creatures, discover relics of immense power and Slay the Spire!

NIntendolife on the performance of Slay the Spire:

"On the technical side of things, this Switch port runs beautifully in both docked and portable mode and the game's big, bright and colourful cast of characters mean everything looks great and is easily discernible on the handheld screen. There are also no annoyances to report with text being too small; all the information on-screen is easy to parse and clearly laid out. We did encounter a handful of very slight framerate drops from time to time whilst we were shuffling quickly through our cards as a screen-shaking attack was going off, but they were few and far between. "

So minor framerate dips, but nothing on the crashes.

Wonderboy and Virtual Racing! Two games I really want! Finally!

...

The day before Mario Maker 2. >_<

I guess despite how much I love it, I don't really need another version of WB2 Monster Land right now lol, it and Virtua Racing can wait some more.

Why must everything be released in the same week of June? I got Pedro, Wonder Boy, Mario Maker 2, Samurai Shodown (PS4), Judgment, Yakuza 5 (Japanese remaster) and Bloodstained all launching at once. Not sure which ones I'll get (aside from the Yakuza stuff and MM2 of course). Oh well, at least I'm not starved for content! Hopefully Pedro is a great port that runs at 60FPS. It looks fantastic but anything less than a fantastic frame rate will hurt that game for me. So fingers crossed its an excellent port (I've no reason to doubt it will be though).

Meanwhile, I continue to play Gunlord X. Cleared the fourth level which was enormous. I don't think even the largest Turrican levels were quite this large. Nothing really new to add to it, other than it definitely does its inspiration proud, it really is the Turrican game that never was. Its not easy but not too tough either, exploring is well worth it for all the power ups, and is just damn fun to do anyway. Music is brilliant, graphics are gorgeous and large and its silky smooth. Its a must buy if you want a huge platformer/shoot em up to play.

Also started going through Just Shapes and Beats. Its so good. The music and stage design/choreography? is so on point. "Boss" encounters are extremely memorable and fun. I just need a free select on songs now, as the only disappointing thing is not being able to replay a level after finishing it in story mode.

And yeah, gotta say the Switch has totally lived up as my favourite indie platform, taking over from the Vita which did a similar thing last gen. It just feels so nice to play all these games on a handheld, and looking at the upcoming games I won't be stopping anytime soon!

Phantom Doctrine is out on Switch and appears to be showing as $13.39 for me (discount is because I own Hard West, I believe). Are there any impressions or reviews of the Switch version out there? I've come across plenty reviews of the PC version, but can't find anything specifically regarding the Switch version yet.

Is it 20 euros/dollars worth though?
Well that depends on the person really. I bought it for $20USD for Vita and felt satisfied enough with the 8:30 hours I got out of it but YMMV. Then again I consider 20 bucks still within the "cheap" range.

Hell, I bought the soundtrack for half that amount after clearing it because it's too good, haha.

Excited to finally try Slay the Spire when I get home from work! Heard so many great things about the game and can't wait to dig in. Glad to see Virtua Racing finally got a date for the US as well as Pedro - exciting times ahead!

Really having a hard time deciding on whether or not I should pick up Sword of Ditto on the current sale.

Any impressions to guide me would be greatly appreciated.

Finally managed to start the game deleting some games from the switch internal memory ( i need to get an sd card ^^' ).

Looks like creating the save file at the start was the problem, which is weird because I had 130 mb free and the save file is 40 mb ...
