I doubt it will be as horror as Bloodborne, but it's just my gut feeling. Not like I care though.

sounds too open ended to really stick with one particular style/motif. but i'm sure once you see it it's like "yuuup, that's a From game"

PDX OR
I imagine there will be some dark, dank, creepy horror areas and some bright, sunny, clean civilized areas. The From formula I would imagine.

Oh and when is this event happening today? I have to admit I'm very excited.

What's the over-under on this being a horrorish take on western fantasy?

You mean just like most of their previous games since Demon's? That game was extremely influenced by King's Field, which was a Japanese developer's take on a Western RPG.

as for balls to the wall "horror" a la Bloodborne i guess that's a question

Most of their more recent games had been heavily horror based (dark fantasy). Demon's even managed to be more oppressive than Bloodborne could dream of.

I hope we see more than just a bullshit teaser like we did for Sekiro for the first time that had people guessing wtf is going on for a year.
Bamco may or may not have invited some Souls streamers to an event. Possible that we'll maybe get some more info out of it if they were shown behind the scenes gameplay but the public reveal is CG only. That's assuming From/Bamco is showing more of the game to press and insiders; could be they are getting the same reveal as up but earlier.

If this end up being a CG trailer the least they can do is beat the Dark Souls II one. That trailer is awesome.

The number one reason why I like horror inspiration in games is because it leads to great enemy design, but Dark Souls isn't as horror oriented as Bloodborne and it has fantastic enemies, so I'm not really worried about that.

Reason why everyone kept asking for horror stuff in Sekiro is because we kept seeing human enemies, or big ass humans at most. But in a fantasy setting, we'll surely get a bunch of weird shit.

I don't care about any of the souls games etc, how are the stories/characters in these games? Seems like an odd combination (George working with a studio that's not good at story telling or characters)

Its not really that odd a combinations at all. FROM games have some of the best Lore and World Building in the industry. The mysteries and prophecies and backstory is very much similar to GRRM's ASOIAF. From excels in that area so it makes sense to have GRRM on to bolster that aspect even further and on the off chance he did a bit more than consulting, Miyazaki and the writing team could get tips for narrative and character interactions. I don't think their storytelling is bad, but it's definitely a more lore focused approach than something like The Witcher.

From and GRRM definitely have similar perspectives on how to tackle dark fantasy, different mediums aside. It's going to be interesting to see how Martin will adapt to the medium though since he's at his best when writing in-depth, complicated character studies and unpredictable plotting in addition to lore and world building. I have no idea how you bring that style of writing to a video game, especially one that's as gameplay-heavy as Fromsoft titles tend to be.

Most def. Which is why I think its more likely they brought him on for the lore and backstory bits because that sort of in depth character exploration would be so so different to what From usually do.

Sooo...Demon's Souls then?
it's miyazaki with GRRM trimmings. i think you know the answer...

I mean seriously horror. After Sekiro being so dull, I want this shit extra spicy.

I want to shit my pants.

The more I think about it, the more excited I am

You see, much as I looooove From's games... I never cared about the stories or the lore. It always kinda bored me, in Dark Souls most of all (only the Sif thing ever resonated with me because, well, animals :3 and some of the Sekiro endings did have "feels", I'll admit). Bloodborne was far better there, but even then, I really didn't play it for the story and the lore was just kinda cool but not "omg I love this", you know?

But I still love those games to death and I don't even hold the "weak" story against them because they are so non-intrusive.

But now... with GRRM being involved... it might be the first time I actually care to dig deep into the lore. That's almost frightening, lol. If it's of at least the same quality as their previous recent entries and the story/lore is engrossing, I fear I will spend unhealthy amounts of time on this game...

From is already super talented with lore and world building though. It's possible this game, being open world and AAA, might be more straightforward than anything else they've done, complete with tons of cutscenes and cinematic presentation. From and GRRM could come up with tons of lore and backstory. Then GRRM writes the main characters and the plot. This of course all depends on how involved the collaboration will be, but the posibilities are enticing.

I feel empty after this trailer. I mean I didn't even expect gameplay or anything, but this was... too short. The wait for more news is going to be painful lol. I must say, though, there was some visually impressive imagery right there. The shots with the arms and that "cracked" person were especially beautiful.
