I always wondered why Rian Johnson named the new girl in Star Wars "Rose" but now I'm convinced it's because she's a space communist, which is hilarious and great.

Nothing helps the poor feed and provide for their families like virtual money that fluctuates wildly in value on a daily basis that no actual nationwide or local business even accepts.

Wouldn't that require making internet service a human right? Don't think Stefan would like that!

So I'm a member of DSA and pretty favorably inclined towards the organization as a whole, but this account is quite the troll

I mean I don't disagree with them, I just care way less about winning the minds of "the average American"

Okay okay "the average American" doesn't exist. There are simply a lot of people who form a lot of the population of the US, in all classes, for whom anti-cop sentiment will always be a vehement point of offense (instead of just a milquetoast defense). We don't need those people

But anti-cop rhetoric isn't something thought-up in the abstract by latte-sipping anarchists it's from the direct experiences that so-called average people have with law enforcement, especially PoC communities.
I mean it comes back to the fundamental problem. The police function as an enforcement arm of white supremacy, and a lot of white people implicitly or explicitly understand that. The police "keep the inner city thugs in line"

Anarcho-Capitalism is a meme right?

All ideologies are memes comrade.

More seriously, the word was originally used to mean any idea that spreads and evolves, like genes. Since then it's come to be broadly understood as specifically something that is a joke and Dawkins has gone off the deep end.

Just saw that he won. I wasn't following. Why did this happen?
Lots of factors i think, center left is more weak in all latin America, insatisfaction with reformism, that was in govermnent for years. Theres also big interests by big companies, that supported the right Wing, i know is cliche to blame US, but also Koch brothers, etc invested hard on think tanks in latin America, that helped attack the left. Big media groups in most latin America is owned by groups of the right Wing, Also its too much of a big coincidence that in most countries leaders or members of the left are being Prosecuted with corruption charges etc
Chile, Brazil, Equador, Argentina, uruguay, Bolivia etc

I feel like the ways that bitcoin is failing are demonstrative of some of my broader concerns about decentralization and vulnerability to systemic exploitative actors but there's nothing coherent yet...I need to think about it more

Eh, bitcoin is not that complicated, to my mind. It's just a speculative commodity bubble, which we have seen often enough. It's made slightly more complicated by all the people insisting that bitcoin is a currency but it's simpler when you understand they are all just deranged or confused.

Episode 9 the establishment of commie Jedi.

The ST era has a lot of interesting potential for political radicalism, which Bloodline touches on but doesn't go into too much detail about. The problem is the franchise runners think the Republic is a good thing that needs to be reinstated instead of another obstacle to freedom.

I am very pleased with Rose at least.

Congress approved the reform

Not surprising. Likewise, the insane tax bill just passed here in the US that makes the most blatantly obvious distribution of wealth towards the rich in years flat out obvious.

I expect the midterms and 2020 election to have a very heavy class element to them now, albeit only to the extent liberals will allow.

I don't. Remember, it's the United States of America. Home of the free, land of the brave.

Well that's why I said to the extent liberals would allow. We'll see a resurgence of 1% vs. 99% populism, because the tax bill and Trump's administration's corruption are such easy targets. They'll seek to overturn the tax law and raise taxes where possible but not do much to fix systemic problems.

If we play our cards right we can dramatically increase access to healthcare, education, and possibly get public infrastructure investments. More transformative change, well, I'm still trying to figure out what I think the path to that is

That comes down to whether they can pull off a DDD victory, whether SCOTUS still has the same balance of power, and if the neoliberal wing is willing to make the jump on some of those things when push comes to shove.

I do think the party is further left now but Democrats have a magic ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

About star wars this IS a translation And adaptation to US context, that i made from an article i liked.

"Resistance and the new generations:

Someone once said that a cultural work, once completed and given to the public, belongs to the latter, anyone can see in it whatever he or she wishes, independently of the original will of the author. Maybe Star Wars is a bit of that.
In times of Trump, alt-right, tax reform, confusion and division of the left, The last Jedi is an extremely optimistic film and a call to confidence in the future. It tells us the story of a Rebel Alliance that suffers one defeat after another. But as Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac character) says in the trailer itself, "We are the spark that will ignite the flame that will destroy the First Order." Despite the defeats, the rebels have full confidence in the future, because they know that their allies are those exploited and oppressed by the First Order from every corner of the galaxy. They know that the phrase "I am a member of the Resistance" can in some cases mean their death, but in others it will guarantee shelter, care and perhaps even a ship. You just need to know to who you must say this.
Incidentally, the phrase about the spark said by Dameron is a clear reference to the famous verse of the Russian poet Alexander Odoevski in his 1828 poem: "From Spark the Flame Will Be Born." This verse was later adopted by Lenin as motto of the revolutionary newspaper Iskra [the spark]. Also in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, the revolutionaries suffered many defeats, but they persevered. And because of this they won.
The last Jedi is also a movie about simple people and about how it is impossible to win without their courage; about how you do not have to be someone special to do special things. The Resistance is not only made up of generals, admirals and skilled pilots. It includes people who maintain the ships and clean the sewers of the space stations. There is no Resistance without these people. The same goes for the First Order. And as Bertolt Brecht put it: "Your tank, general, is a strong car / It destroys a forest, it kills hundreds of men / But it has a defect / It needs a driver."
The last Jedi explains that the most important condition for the victory of the Resistance is its ability to win the hearts and minds of the new generations; that experienced leaders and commanders have enormous value and that one can learn a great deal from them, but that they too can and should be replaced at some point. And it's always better if the old commanders come out voluntarily, lending their support to the young leaders. Young people sometimes err, break discipline, rush, misjudge the conditions of struggle. But they are the future.
Star Wars VIII - The last Jedi teaches us that life is finite and that there is only one place where we can live forever: in the memory of those who will come after us, who will tell us stories and who will rely on our deeds and our example to follow the fight. Because it's the one who gives meaning to our existence. It is It who destroys and builds all things. That unites and separates men and women, social classes, nations. The struggle is the thread that explains all of human history. It's the real life force."

You're probably all up on this info, but the first 6 (out of nearly 200) defendants in the #J20 case were found not guilty by the jury of all 42 charges.
https://www.unicornriot.ninja/2017/jury-finds-six-j20-defendants-not-guilty-on-all-charges/

Anyway, here's a random question: has anyone ever played any video games that successfully portray the 1917 Revolution or the Soviet struggle in WWI or WWII? Or games that depict (non-parody) socialism for that matter?
