On my phone so I can't respond to your whole list (most of which I agree with), but I disagree about the world being too large. As I was wrapping the game up, I wanted to defog the map, so I decided to ride from Siwa through the western deserts and down to the very south of the map. Like you said, it's pretty much completely empty; no question marks, not even any animals. It does a great job feeling like the endless desert of the Sahara. And then, after 15 minutes of riding through nothing but the occasional hallucination, I stumble upon that gigantic otherworldly tomb at the bottom of the map. And it made it feel special. Cresting yet another dune and seeing this sprawling canyon appear is one of the best moments I've had in the game. You wouldn't get that if they stripped out all the empty places.

Guess I understand from where you are comming from, but that really wasn't the experience that I had with these areas. Maybe it was, because I found that otherwordly tomb 1st and then went into these empty areas expecting to find something else. But maybe it was also, because it felt like filler content that doesn't have any other real purpose. The game has several nice locations, no doubt about it, but these empty (or mostly empty) locations felt unneeded in the end. At least to me.

Just got the game, and I'm Level 3. I can't seem to toggle on the hood? I'm on the Xbox.

Any help?

It's probably locked until a certain mission is over. Would make totally sense, but I'm not sure.

The economy of the game is awful. The weapon upgrade costs are at complete odds with the fact that soldiers drop like 3/4 gold on death. Absurd.

Crafting costs seem fine for materials but gold feels like they want you to spend money, it's so misaligned. Might see if I can edit an ini file to get max gold if possible because I really don't see it affecting game balance all that much.
Yes it is, but you also don't need the money for anything but outfits and mounts if that's your thing.

I'm sorry for all the people who didn't discover the fun of poisoning a body and throwing it at other guards. Ubi should have made the throwing mechanism clearer.

Beat the game.
So.. Aya is Amunet huh. That's pretty cool. And can we please get a modern day game with Layla? She's pretty cool.
I still have so many side quests to do. So many.

I am only 45 minutes in(intro mission, 1 or 2 side quests) so I am obviously extremely early but I am assuming the story actually gets explained sooner rather than later right? I almost feel like a big cut scene or something introducing you to what is going on/what has happened was missing. Literally just thrown in with almost no context..

Yeah, I just assumed that being too close to a poisoned body would poison me as well. It wasn't until I saw a tooltip about how you can put a poisoned body onto a horse and scare the horse into running into an enemy camp or something.

They eventually do explain what exactly happened, but I think it was at least several hours into the story. I did encounter a side quest later on in the game that ties into a minor part of the story, but since they skip a good chunk of the beginning of the story, they straight up have Bayek explain to you why this side quest is important.

Some stuff gets explained, other stuff doesn't. Don't expect a fully coherent, fleshed out narrative or you'll be disappointed. The story and its presentation [or lack thereof] is one of this game's biggest flaws.

Thanks for the responses. New to assassin's creed(and rpgs) in general so it's all a little overwhelming at the moment. I assume I can pretty much do whatever side stuff seems fun and then just do the story when the right level?

I feel the ocd in me will want to complete everything but that'll likely take far too long. Especially when I was wandering around and stuff popped up that wasn't really even on the map(locate 3 treasures in an area).

Definately!

The game is kinda designed around that concept: level up through sidequests untill you've reached the recommended level for a main quest, do the main quest, rinse and repeat. But overall I'd say do what you want, that's what makes this game fun. It doesn't restrict you in any way, nor punish you for exploring. Be warned though that [much] higher leveled enemies will destroy you.

This is kind of my main problem with the game. Assassin's Creed Origins dilutes its own identity by trying to appeal to everyone. There are so many mechanics at play in the combat, that the game never makes it clear which path you're meant to choose or the mechanics at play in those paths. I wish there was a "True Egypt" mode or something, that actually had some sort of motif/tie into the world that they've so meticulously built. Poisoning blades makes sense. Using stealth makes sense. Senu is overpowered, but the idea is at least more interesting and explained than the other versions of Eagle Vision. But things like controlling arrows with my mind and taming animals exist because it's Ubisoft Design, as opposed it making sense in the world.

I also wish the map was a little less forthcoming. I loved that Witcher 3 let you discover the map.

That said, I'm only a few hours in, and goddam this game is beautiful. And there are a few things I think it gets better than Witcher 3. The wildlife and its integration into the world is really beautiful. I love how you can just hang out and eventually something crazy will happen. I watched a few soldiers from afar as they hunted hippos and then swept in to pick up their loot. I love the desert and how huge the world is. It's up there with Red Dead Redemption and Witcher 3 just for its locales alone. I love how natural the parkour feels. Unlike other AC games, I don't feel like I'm in a toybox version of a historical city with clear parkour routes cut into it. I love the attention to detail and the menial jobs that people do all around you.

As for things that could be better, the pacing of the world. That intro really is awful--I have no clue why the devs would hide the protagonist's motivation from the character until hour 3. The voice acting is pretty weak outside of the main characters, and a lot of the dialogue falls into the "NPC giving you quest" structure. The facial animations of the NPCs is pretty poor.

It may sound like I'm being down on the game but it's also the first AC I've given a shit about since II, so as a reboot I'd say it's pretty successful.

I find it funny that you can tell how much effort they put into the quest just by what camera angles they use at the start for each of them.

Whats this Bow that people are pissed that was removed from the game, and have they said anything about it coming back? It was from a side quest and it shot like 3 or 5 arrows at once, and it was held sideways. Dont remember what it was called atm.

I'm level 33 and still haven't seen or received any good outfits yet. The weavers barely have any for sale even after I got the perk to make them sell more rare gear.

I found the Naruto bug. Bayeks arms are stuck behind his back.

I've just reached Memphis, it looks like they have a whole industry of mummification, was it really like that?

Apparently the Jackal's Graze was removed from what I can tell googling after your post. I don't use that type of bow very often but I was using that during an elephant fight and it helped. Mostly used the composite bow though.. rapid fire + health on hit was crucial.

Agreed. You can save money by not upgrading weapons often. If a particular weapon gets to be 8+ levels below you, just do a papyrus puzzle to get a special weapon at your level and use that for a while. Phylakes have set drops as well. Also, once you upgrade all your equipment (hidden blade, tool pouch, that stuff), you won't need crafting materials any more, so you can sell all the weapons you get off enemies rather than breaking them down, and they generally fetch a hundred or two.

Had never done a papyrus puzzle and I'm 28 hours in. Now I know, thanks! Was using the Phylakes stuff whenever I was close enough in level to defeat them.

Selling crafting gear helps but, again it's like 4 gold a pop so you barely get a few hundred for doing so and upgrades cost thousands.

Yes it is, but you also don't need the money for anything but outfits and mounts if that's your thing.

Or constantly upgrading your favourite yellow weapon... Which apparently is not how you're meant to play this at all but the drops aren't often enough to keep giving me better gear. It's a super weird loop. Doesn't really hit the obsessive notes of the best loot games as a result.

The Final Fantasy Mission is up!
When Ardyn appears it shows how much better this visual engine is compared to the one in XV. He looks pretty amazing, almost a generational difference with the original.

Layla was pretty much a boring and bland fest with minimum character development, it's beyond me how anyone would want more from her.

God dang it, so I stopped playing a week ago because I was waiting for the Anubis set and I can't even get it because you need to beat the gods 4 times. So I'm going to be one attempt short of the armor until they are up again.

Uhh holy shit. Just finished two tombs....not going to spoil anything but all I can say is: wow. I did get spoiled one of the crazier silica rewards you can get though, so I'm focusing on that at the moment.

Part of that is finishing all the stone circles, which required me to go explore a bunch beyond my level and the zones I've been in (mostly Alexandria and the surrounding areas like Sais). This map is absolutely insane. So many things to do, so many settlements and towns with quests.

Nothing. Look at the map, around the Memphis area (stretching it heh) a weirdly colored quest will appear.

Go do it now tbh
Oh damn, I'll do that as soon as I get home.

Good that it doesn't require lvl 40. Saving stuff for "end game" is something I hate in games like this. I want cool shit along the way while I'm actually playing the game. Not at the end when I've already done everything.

Got the Platinum last night, knocked out the Trials of the Gods + gear, so I think I've just got a handful of sidequests left.

Can't see myself ever doing the Hippodrome races again, though I might mess around with the gladiator stuff some more.

When's the first big DLC drop? January?

Edit: and on that note, how the hell do you get those two swords locked behind "weekly quests" in the Ubisoft Club? Has there ever been any? Was it just week one? Did Mario make me miss them? :(

Is that Final Fantasy mission up forever or is it a limited time thing? I finished AC and moved to Dying Light but if that content is going away I could revisit Egypt for the 15-20 minutes it takes to compete it.

For the trial of the gods I got the outfit and bow this time, before I got the sword, scepter and shield. Is there anything left? Thanks!

To anyone wondering where's FFXV quest, open your map and you'll find it in the bottom-mid of Saqqara Nome. Green diamond shaped icon. Got to say the new map icons are way better than before!

Just finished all the tombs...wow. This game is so great.

I'm actually pretty excited for the next game already. Not something I've been able to say about Assassin's Creed for the past like 8 years. Just hope Origins wasn't a fluke and they can continue to improve the formula.

Finally played and finished all Trials Of The Gods events.

That was very fun, Sekhmet probably my favorite fight out of the three, Anubis the hardest (fk those homing hyena lol), while Sobek have my favorite design, all three have fking amazing design though.

Now I want Ashraf Ismail and his team makes fully fantasy action game not tied to Assassin's Creed, go crazy with the settings lol.

fullscreen

Anyway, I notice the mooks in Sekhmet fight use the outfit we get from one of the sidequests, can we obtain the outfits used by Sobek and Anubis mooks? I want that Crocodile hood....

I hadn't realised the Edward Kenway outfit (aka the greatest AC costume ever) and one of the pre-order exclusive missions had been put up on Ubisoft Club at some point without me noticing it.

With the Trials of the Gods and the FFXV mission done, time for me to put the game away until the exploration mode gets added in. It's a strong contender for my game of the year.

Anubis' homing hyena's are just like Sekhmet Laser Beam. You just outrun them or at least that's how I did it.

I don't know about obtaining Sobek's outfit (fought him like 3 times already and nothing happened), but the Anubis outfit is a reward after you beat all of the bosses at least once and then beat any boss afterwards.

Snagged the Kenway outfit yesterday. I also learned that you actually can't obtain the Chop-Chop and the Harlequin weapons, because those were tied to participating in a drawing contest or something. I hope they unlock them at some point. Pretty interested in the Chop-Chop.

I'll also put the game away after I finished the remaining Arena Events. Hopefully the DLC content will be good enough, but I'll probably still wait for the Season Pass to drop in price first.
