I really like fighting regular enemies but fighting yokai feels like a total crapshoot.

Sometimes my combo drains their stamina and they drop, other times they shrug it off and hit me.

I can't find any real pattern to it and it's really frustrating because I don't feel like I'm doing anything different from what I usually do to stagger them.

Does anyone know what triggers it?

All DLCs are done and reached the last floor in the abyss. My GOTY for sure.
Also want to share my main weapon.

What's the orange colour? Is there a new tier beyond ethereal (which is what I'm guessing AmethystEnd 's equipment is... never went beyond divine +12 or so myself)

Don't think they stack, might just be getting perks for certain buffs.

My GOTY by far and completely makes the souls gameplay seem a step back and basic.

Also only 2 trophys away from platinum, Just get all hot baths and kodamas, Pretty easy.

Kunai ninja build is just so OP lol

Does the kunai build work good on way of the nioh? I intend to clear all missions on that difficulty and its proving hard to do with kingo + aya-komori.

Maybe after 4 playthroughs its time to change my build lol.

No, the orange is the standard color for Ethereals. AmethystEnd is using one of the non-standard color options for item quality. There is nothing beyond Ethereals.
Also what's a grace?
The Graces are basically new sets for Ethereal tier gear that normally don't have them. All weapons and armor belonging to normal sets just remain in that item set, but the ones that don't belong to a set get one of the Graces assigned on them at random.

Yeah it makes WOTN easy if you get the right build, Getting thrown weapon damage 22% on all your armour sets, Then thrown weapon damage X2 on equipment. Also Kunai damage buffs on them, I stuck with Kingo set for the damage from behind buff.

200 dexterity

LW replacing njnjutsu items from iga John piece.

Kunai's stunlock which helps tremendously.

With carnage and weakness it can be a cakewalk.

This game is kicking my ass, Bloodborne was way easier for me.
I went with the Kusarigama as my main and dual sword as my 2nd weapon, focusing on Dexterity and Skill, light armor, around Lv15 now at the 2nd boss (bat/bird lady).
Now I read spear is pretty much easy mode. I want to switch but my stats aren't really built for spear. If I buy the respec book from the blacksmith, I can completely respec everything, right? No real need to start over from scratch?
Any general tips would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Nice! What does CCD KI reduction do for you? Also what is "Nullify Weakening (weapons" and what does it do for you?

Did you get a 9000 attack weapon?

It looks like you are using the new LW CRIT setup.

i found a mission in the first dlc where i could farm amrita from revenants at a huge rate. I hit 295 and they have vanished, whenever I go there, there are no revenants. Is there anywhere else I can level up this way? Im not too great at the game and want to get to around 350 so i can beat the last mission of Way of the Strong and unlock the next tier. Thx

Honestly the fastest way to farm is to go on and beat harder missions.

I kind of lost my interest. I really don't know what I want or how to build. I am in NG+. I am getting modifiers on my armour that is all the same, even on divine. It really has turned into diablo.

Yeah the end game is really diablo and min maxing your gear. It is for people who enjoy that and enjoy the Nioh gameplay and want more.

It is very different from Souls in that way.

CCD Ki Reduction reduces ki use when attacking by that percentage. Nullify Weakening reduces the chance of getting the effect on you that temporarily both disables the weapons specials and reduces the attack power to a fraction. Bosses and the red aura enemies usually cause that effect pretty often, especially in WotW and WotN.

Yes she's pretty difficult, at first. First things first, always let her engage first with you punishing her afterwards. If she attacks you with a 3hit combo, either where she uses her umbrella or her fists and feet. This is when you can punish her. I personally would not engage her if she just uses her 2 hit variants.

After she finishes whirling around is also a time you can punish her. Best way of avoiding this move is running away, don't dodge out of it. In my experience she always hit me when i tried that for this move. Maybe because I was to close to her. As a rule you should always stay min 5 or more feet away from her so you aren't hit with a move that you can't react to. Anyway afterwards you can punish her.

Dodge her para!yzing blast. She always makes a sound before using it, that is your give away to dodge. You have to get the timing right. Trust your ears more than your eyes in this case. She uses this move while standing as well when she's flying. You could also just keep running sideways to avoid it. But remember you have to be running in anticipation of her using it. Otherwise you won't be fast enough to avoid it imo.

While she is airborne, she has three attacks. The paralyzing blast which we already discussed. Her second attack is her throwing knives at you, dodge them. In her third attack she launches towards you. Dodge this one. Afterwards it is punishment time.

She can also launch towards you while on the ground. Just dodge and punish afterwards.

I would only punish her with a 2 or 3 hit combo, don't get greedy.
You could also try to use talismans that give you resistances against paralyzing effects. But you have to invest skill points in order to use them.

You will become familiar with her patterns after a few tries and it becomes much easier.

Finished the game this evening. Was a very enjoyable experience. Most humanoid bosses were amazing. The more monster like ones, not so much. Looking forward to the sequel, if there is one.

P.S. I rocked the red demon set in the end. I looked stylish as fuck. I come from fashion Souls, so looking good is always a priority to anything else :P

I've been stuck on this boss for a while! Getting pretty close, but not quite... FWIW, the spear does help due to its range, but dual swords are equally useful if not better because of their speed. Being in light armour and dodging in and out seems to be important. Kusarigama seems less usable to me here, as there's a small wind-up time before attacks that makes the timing window very short. Anyhow, with the swords and the rest of your build you should be able to do it, but what do I know, haven't beaten it yet!

I beat her with dual swords in mid stance. Make sure you put on some Archer gear. It's all over that level and can help you from getting paralyzed/poisoned. Also, locking on to her and running around her is a good alternative to trying to time dodges. Take your time and don't get greedy and you'll take her down eventually.

God, the tonfas are amazing. I was worried they'd botch them, but it seems like some of that NG2 spirit lives on over at tecmo despite the staff changes.

Dunno about right now, but GMG regularly emails me 25% off codes for it seemingly all the time. Might sign up for the site just in case they do another code dump during christmas or something.

It was actually rather cool you could get the game at launch there for like $30. If you were like me who didn't buy any of the DLC and had a physical copy you could dump off it was an amazing deal. Easiest copy transfer ever.

Did it! Thanks for the tip, dual swords + mid stance + dancing around did the trick, plus using arrows! I guess the archer garb should have been a bigger hint, given that it has paralysis protection AND extra bow damage AND infinite arrows...

Thanks for the advice, guys. I failed probably around 10 tries, took a break and a shower, watched some youtube videos of this boss fight, then beat her in another 3 or 4 tries with the Kusarigama in mid-stance. I definitely agree with "don't get greedy", it was the same in Soulsborne, I should have learnt my lesson.

Finished it for the 2nd time after i was convinced i would never ever touch it again after beating it for the first time. The gameplay is just too good.

This time i completed every side mission and i have to say that those double boss fights are such bullshit!!!

Here fight 7-8 powerful revenants and once you are done fight Nobunaga and his samurai.I almost quit the game once more. It's these things that make me hate the game sometimes.

I've done both sword and tonfas, and both were awesome. Sword is a little bit cliche for a game like this, but things only become a cliche by being good for so damned long ^_^

Tonfas are stupidly fun to use, remind me a lot of NG2 iteration of them.

As a NG vet you'll have a leg up on people because I think the biggest problem a lot of people have coming into it is they expect the game to play exactly like souls when the game is much more Ninja Gaiden with Diablo trappings. It has some souls stuff layered on top like the respawn mechanic and the stat system, but overall it's not really souls at all nor trying to be. The level design is really similar to NG1, so you'll feel right at home there. The enemy design is pure NG too, with iterative attempts on the same enemy type recontexualized with different moves and flavors as the game progresses. Don't get bogged down in the side missions, they're mostly there to give you a leg up on the main levels if they're thrashing you around too much.

This is great advice. And I'd suggest just playing with whatever weapons you want and decide what you like. It's very easy to respec. What I liked at the start is not what I'm playing with now midway through.

Got to Way of the Wise. It's like playing from the very beginning again - my damage is roughly on par, relatively speaking, to how I first started, and I die in one hit, max 2. Ayyyyyyy. Gotta git gud all over again.

I wish! I've had 2 pieces of Ethereal gear drop, neither of which belong to the same set ayyyy! Yesterday's Twilight mission with Blobman and his amazing watery deathholes wasn't appreciably more difficult than WotD, just took longer. Also had to rein in all the dps greed massively.

Loaded the game up Friday night, finished the first level, feels a lot nicer than it did during the alpha and betas.

Satuday I played a bit more, fell in love with the Odachi.

Yesterday I pretty much went hype mode and got to the 4th or 5th region, sitting at level 80 now. God I love this game.

question: is armor purely RNG or is some of it dictated by the level? i.e. can any piece of armor drop anywhere or are they more "X armor drops in Y areas" and so on?

There was this one awesome armor set in one of the playtests, I think called Veteran armor, looked all battered up, like it's been through hell. Would love to get that hooked up for refashions.

Basically specific enemies drop a lot of specific types of armor. And there are also smithing texts that have a small chance to drop from specific bosses. It is also RNG. The level you are playing at also dictates the level and rarity of the armor that can drop.

Masamune gave me some trouble too. What I did was when he starts using his living weapon, I would just keep my distance and let him exhaust his Ki, and then once his Ki was almost out I would rush in and hit him, letting me then do a finishing blow on him and take off a decent chunk of his heath bar. I kept doing this until basically the end of the fight. Obviously not the fastest way, but once I started using this method it only took me about two attempts to finish him off.

Use tiger running scrolls. Don't get hit and wait for openings when you can get a few hits in safely.

If you want to summon me into your game so that I can smash him in 1-2 hits let me know.

I feel I'm 'brute forcing' my way through this game. I don't know about builds, I don't know how to trigger combos. I just mostly press Square and Triangle and hope for my enemies to fall. Also, I don't know how to upgrade my equipment.
I'm at the Spider-lady boss at the moment and I just can't get through her. I think I should stop playing, watch some builds and upgrading equipment videos and then continue playing the game.

Nioh is very dependent on builds.

There are videos of people doing level 1 no damage defeats of the hardest bosses in the highest difficulties but most people aren't going to do that.

Spending a little time learning about the perk system, and rerolling your gear at the blacksmith can make a massive difference towards making the game a lot easier.

Nioh is really an RPG, it's not a Ninja Gaiden.

In the beginning the main thing to do is look at the stuff that drops for you and equip it. You will do a lot more damage with a higher level weapon, and you will take less damage with higher level armor.

If your still wearing gear you got in region 1 while your in region 3 then you are handicapping yourself.

ERA's GotY votes are open, y'all. Go give Nioh some love. :) Sure, it won't make #1, but it'd be cool if it made at least top 5 or top 10.

Personally I think it'll be my #1. Either that one or Horizon. Decisions, decisions...
