My Pixel XL has had a number of issues since updating to 8.1 last week

- frequent random reboots
- phone/voice commands working inconsistently ( and sometimes crashing the phone)
- overall working slowly

Has anyone else experienced errors like this? I hate how new updates to even a year old phone causes so many issues!

So these USB-C earbuds finally came today after a month: https://m.ebay.com/itm/100-Original...Type-C-Plug-/272675022684?txnId=1901876239017

Here's the results with multiple Android phones:

Pixel 2 XL: only works when inserted upside down. Still sensitive - can be interrupted with a hairs push

HTC U11: works perfectly, no problems at all

Galaxy S8+: makes the music play 2x faster

OnePlus 5T: doesn't work at all

Pixel XL: works perfectly

USB audio is such a clusterfuck

Interesting. Ordered some anc xiaomi usbc earbuds from gearbest. Curious how well they work.

You need to enable USB OTG to get these to work on some phones.

No issues here. Try a factory reset

Thinking of upgrading from my LG G4 to the Pixel 2. I'm in Canada and not having LTE is killing me a little bit. Is that phone upgrade worth it?

Yeah, I have also some issues with 8.1. Did you use the Developer Previews?

Damn good price.
I've been using the Z Play for the last 2 months and I've been loving its crazy long battery life and surprisingly solid performance (feels smoother than my S7 Edge which I finally sold recently).

Camera is pretty mediocre, lack of notification light was a bummer at first but I got used to that after a few weeks, and the screen doesn't get as bright (or as dim in low light) as the S7, but having a battery life that legitimately lasts me two whole days and for how cheap it is (especially now) it more than makes up for the faults IMO.
It breaks sorting the way it's implemented, wouldn't be a Samsung feature if it didn't break something.
Yeah, it's a great idea in theory, but they needed to put the context keywords AFTER the date/time so it doesn't break the existing sorting.

Lol you're soon going to be returning back up phones for better back up phones...

I saw this deal earlier today. Really great deal actually.
Yep. What's holding me off for now lol.

I honestly don't need another stock Android long battery phone. Pixel 2 xl does that.

I'm waiting for some fire sale deals on the keyone cuz that's more novel. But it's holding it's value.

Pixel 2 here.

Quick question. Anyone know how to be able to select a specific still from a "motion on" photo? On iphone you can use the google motion stills app to do this, but I don't see this feature on my Pixel 2's version of the app. Kind of weird google would provide extra features on iOS.

If google doesn't have an app was hoping there was a third party out there.

Hello all.

I'm heavily considering to upgrade my Pixel phone to Pixel XL 2 in 3 weeks.

is it a good idea? or should I consider another phone?

For comparison, you should at least consider the Note 8 and S8. Depending on where you live you might be able to buy them for cheaper than the XL2. They are both great phones too.

Mkbhd named Note 8 phone of the year, can't disagree, but if you consider price I would say it's the s8.

Doesn't seem so. Also google shit has been better on iOS since the beginning.

I have a sad history with Samsung phones. I dunno how much Android is now better in these phones but my experience with them before wasn't good.

Pixel has served me very well for a year but I have the money to upgrade, and the Pixel XL 2 is looking sexy. I searched around the web a bit and it seems it has screen issues... while the regular doesn't. Sad because I'm not really liking the regular Pixel.

Are the issues fixed already for the non-launch shipments? if not I will just stick with Pixel for while longer.

v30 question regarding quick launching the camera:

Is there a way or any third party app that will assign the center home button to open an app, specifically the camera by double tapping?

I'm moving from the S7 where this was a thing and previously had Xperia phones with a dedicated camera button. Having to make multiple touches on the screen to take a photo isn't ideal especially if I'm listening to music which voids the double tap volume down quick launch ability from the lock screen.

reddit says you can put the camera launch on the floating dock or the always on display?

I need a new phone for my mom. Got her a 5X but its been 18 days that it was sent and is still in the sender's city. Even though it only has 2gb of RAM I decided to get it because its free of bloatware but now that it didn't arrive (Im travelling tomorrow to meet her) I need a plan B.

I can get another 5x from a guy for 160, 32gb. A Huawei 10 Lite for 225 (used as well), a new LG Q6 for 200 (but wtf it doesnt have fingerprint reader?) or a Mate 10 lite for 300 (brand new). Im inclined to get the Mate because the screen is bigger and it just looks more futuristic. I am in Europe btw, cant find used S7 for less than 400 (even though they had new ones for 330 on BF :/ ).

What do you guys think?

Yeah, that seems to be the only option. I don't use the floating dock so I guess l have to keep the camera icon on my left screen which I was trying to avoid.

its so weird that LG still does the power button on fingerprint sensor. no one else does that. also most android phones these days have quick camera launch on double click power button.

He explains clearly that everyone's idea of "budget" is different but the award goes to the phone which offered the most "bang for buck". He also mentioned the Moto G5 Plus for people who wanted a $200 phone and I agree with that too.

I'm still not getting the argument for getting rid of the headphone jack, it works, it's ubiquitous. The manufacturers are all implementing half-baked alternatives that aren't compatible with each other

I picked up a Huawei P10 Lite, been find apart from one really annoying thing: When I'm in the car listening to Spotify via phone's bluetooth, if I make/take a call, when the call ends and the music comes back on, there's is no bass to it at all. Guessing it's just tough shit, but has anyone had this problem before?

I love my 2 XL; screen is fine. Well, I will say the fingerprint sensor is much more sensitive to moisture than my previous Pixel XL and 6P.

You can still get a good trade in for your old Pixel I think.

Makes the internal design easier so they can utilize it better. They're already losing a bit of money by including a more expensive dongle.

I wound up getting the Pixel 2 (not XL). It's so snappy, the battery is lovely, display is a beauty. Made the right choice.

You can technically get better audio too*, and more advanced features given you have a two way data connection.

*of course buying a phone with a better dac also gets you that

Anyone find a loss of quality using the adapter to plug in 3.5mm headphones?

I want to replace my my g5s+ since it has given me a bunch of issues, but the lack of a headphone jack in a bunch of phones is kind of turning me off.

Tbh, the only situation I can think of that I'd need the USB C and 3.5mm is listening to music and charging my phone while driving, because my car doesn't have bluetooth.

I've never noticed any loss of quality, just make sure you don't buy a cheap knockoff adapter from Aliexpress for half a buck and the quality should be the same.

At some point maybe invest in a good pair of wireless headphones, well worth it imo.

Thanks, good to know.

I'd like a pair of wireless headphones at some point, but I did buy a nice pair of audio technica headphones a couple years back which have treated me really well.

Ended up buying a Huawei Mate 9 for my mom. Used it just to set it up and the thing is amazing, great build quality, very good camera (I have a 3T so it was easy to notice the difference), display is bright but not too vivid as Samsung phones... and the battery? HUGE. Fingerprint scanner is snappyI Phone is super fast and responsive and I also liked some of Huawei customization. Just hope she doesn't break it lol.

My wife has a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, that used to have amazing battery life, even years after it was new. But recently it has taken a nose dive. She will charge it to full and without even touching it, by midday she will be down to 15%.

We had the battery replaced, thinking that was the issue, but it doesn't seem to have fixed it at all.

Any other possibilities on what could be causing this? Things to look for?
