From BI:

Papa John's controversial CEO and founder is stepping down.

On Thursday, Papa John's announced that founder John Schnatter would step down as CEO. Schnatter will be replaced by the company's current president Steve Ritchie.

Schnatter sparked controversy in November when he slammed NFL leadership over the ongoing national anthem protests.

"Leadership starts at the top, and this is an example of poor leadership," CEO John Schnatter said in a call with investors.

The CEO's statements quickly inspired backlash on the left and support on the right. The white supremacist website The Daily Stormer even posted an article asking whether Papa John's was the "official pizza of the alt right," forcing the company to say it does not want "hate groups" buying the chain's pizza.

Schnatter owns roughly 25% of Papa John's, and will stay on as chairman after stepping down as CEO in January. According to a press release from the company, he will "pursue his personal passion for entrepreneurship, leadership development and education."

Pizza is still trash and he is a trash person who gets $ if you buy the trash pizza.

Hopefully the chain is bankrupt sooner than later.

Kinda shocking, to be honest. Didn't think he'd step down over all that, but it must be impacting their business.

I'd like to imagine someone like that could take a nice, long look at why a literal Nazi website endorsed their pizza chain, but probably will never happen.

PJs is good because they deliver later than anyone else, and they are often the cheapest, but if I have the option I'll order from pretty much anywhere else first. I don't see that changing because they ditched this asshat, but we'll see I guess.

This is good not because he supported trump, but because he was trying to politicize a pizza company

When you have a global brand that delivers food, there's no need to politicize the issue dude. Company's going to have to take the lesson and keep politics out of pizza stuff.

Ugh, so many questions...

1. Why would you bash the NFL for pizza sales? I know of their agreement, but I doubt anyone's gonna say "let's not buy papa" because I don't like what football is doing" in the first place. Those who weren't going to buy pizza to begin with weren't gonna buy, and people who were gonna buy don't just say NOPE.
2. Will he still be living at Princess Peach's castle?

3. If you are having troubled sales, and questionable groups are asking if you are their official pizza, why would you even say anything? You certainly don't want shitty, questionable, and hateful groups affiliating with your company image, but why say something directly against them. Won't that hurt sales even more?
4. Why do people like them so much? Their pan pizza is HORRIBLE.
5. He's still chairman, with a quarter stake in the company... is this a long-term move?

His greatest gift to the world is the cringe videos, like that one with the first online order. It's so good.

There's gotta be sex allegations coming about him right? Can't believe it's just the bungling of the NFL promotion

My Dad met him at a NASCAR race one, and holy crap he said he looked like his skin was made out of plastic that was stretched over a skull way too tight.

His pizzas are trash, but that garlic butter sauce is delicious.

The only sad thing is that the dude is stepping down still rich.

This always surprises me when I read it on here, chain pizza is shit but Papas has always been the freshest compared to the other big chains, especially Dominos.
I used to prefer Papa John's over Domino's until Domino's changed their recipe a few years back.

I've had Papa John's. It's cardboard with cheese. The Giant store brand frozen pizza here is tastier than his. And cheaper.

Anyway, good riddance John. Or should I call you Papa? Mr. John? Doesn't matter.
