I never understood the problem people have with Borderland's humor. Probably because I play it in French so the jokes are "adapted" but I always found it to be funny games, with genuine acting from the french voice actors.

Borderlands The Pre-Sequel might have one of the funniest line I've heard in a long time, where
One of the scientist you have to save on Helios say that his son finally has a girlfriend, then burst out of laugther when his friend ask him if it's for real.

It's not intelligent, it's not deep at all, it's really dumb but the voice acting sells it. That's probably what saves Borderlands for me.

It's the same in the English version for me. The humor itself is dumb, but the voice acting sells it. Mr. Torgue and Tiny Tina in particular are my favorites.

And Borderlands 2 has worse humor and style than Borderlands 1.

So forced and try hard.

Ya it was so bad I actually had to play the game on mute. If that was the dialogue and jokes that made into the game I can't imagine what was cut. The absolute worst humor I have ever experienced in a game. Are there a few chuckles here and there? Perhaps but you will have to listen to tons of trash to get to them. I am very surprised they didn't work harder on the humor for this sequel.

Why the fuck would you have your reviews be based on an early build? Who at 2k and Gearbox thought that shit was a good idea? It's bad enough that they prohibited any outlets outside the US from even getting to review it, but to then have those reviews be of an early build is utterly stupid.

That's actually pretty normal. We tend to get a review guide, letting us know what stuff isn't working during the review period. From the last few reviews.

Control: Mid-review update that actually cleared saves.
Remnant: Full list of pre-launch patch notes.
Gears 5: Noted final graphics drivers were still be prepared.

Generally what's missing is usually something like Photo Mode. Or the servers require set sessions to test multiplayer. But yes, they tend to offer a full list of patch notes noting what's missing or what will be changed.

But most games aren't "done" by launch. What makes you think they're done before? It tends to not work out in developers' favor, like Bloodstained Switch's performance issues. We review what's in front of us, because that's what is likely going to be in the box, if you don't get a massive Day One patch, like Days Gone did.

What's more abnormal is the unique EGS account. I reviewed Control on PC earlier, also on EGS, and that was just a code, so it's not an EGS-specific thing. The last time I remember having unique accounts was probably for Gwent I think, which required a new GOG press account for review.

Do you think it was to inflate user numbers/get people attached to the account? I don't know what else the reason could be

It's honestly a little perplexing. It's Borderlands and it's not like the story really needs such hard control over the number of reviewers. So I have no clue about the decisions 2K made in that respect and can't speak for them.

And it's not about being attached to the account, as we'll have to switch to retail code for launch anyways. (This is also normal. I had to replay the Witcher 3 on retail code after finishing it on a debug system, for example.)

I tend to not talk to other reviewers prior to embargo, because I want my opinion to come in "clean". Multiplayer is probably the place that's hardest, but in the case of B3, we were able to keep it in-house. So I didn't know that folks didn't get code outside of my man Karak, and I assumed he didn't get code because he doesn't sometimes. It wasn't until today that it was a "thing".

I tend to prefer more reviews, because reviews are a viewpoint, and folks need a number of them to really make a purchasing decision.

You kids and your not getting references from the olds.

The "Mommy Dearest" scene in question (not safe for anyone with a positive opinion of Joan Crawford, and distictly uncomfortable viewing for those of us whose parents had a 20th century take on what you could do to your kids, srsly, this triggers me harder than abortion jokes)

Anyone know when this unlocks? Thinking about taking off work Thursday. Will switching my Xbox location to new Zealand work again to unlock it early?

Borderlands humor is just extremely dumb. That's kind of the point, it's not "clever" dumb, it's actually dumb and fully embraces it. Maybe people expect it to be at a higher standard that people feel they're in at their point of life

I really don't see the good in review threads on era. Like, what's the point? Is the discussion really ever about the game? Or any of the actual text in the reviews? They only perpetuate peak "g a m e r s" vitriol aka if you're not 90 you're trash.

I come in here to see what the reviews main pros and cons are and most of this page is about death stranding lol...

Anyways OT: I understand the viewpoint of not enjoying the humor, same as I did with Sunset. I actually really enjoyed BL2s sense of humor.

If it's just a prettier, more refined BL2 in a new set of environments with different guns I'm absolutely okay with it.

The point of review threads is to shit on games and game devs.

I don't care about the humor in borderlands anymore. This is coming from someone who is able to enjoy shallow comedy. I just don't enjoy internet memeing humor. I'm I'll chuckle here and there and groan at most of the writing. I liked borderlands 2 but grew out of writing.

What I am looking forward to in borderlands is the rpg character progression and using weird guns. I think this has that.

As I said before, that the game does not have PhysX is a big mistake. Control has it and it's one of the things that makes it great.

Seeing the reviews I feel the game is not worth full price, will still check some youtube videos but not feeling it after reading some of the more indeep reviews.

borderlands is simply a glimpse into our idiocracy-like future, where republicans overthrow democracy, replacing it with a post-apocalyptic lawless hellscape where life is worthless, corporations run amok stripmining planets and waging extralegal wars, guns are available in vending machines, and people either speak in memes or, unable to cope with this abomination we've wrought, go completely insane and wander the wastelands in a masked frenzy

i mean, look at how we argue about video games

all that aside, i went ahead and preordered. got a few buddies that want to co-op and it's a rare opportunity these days, so looking forward to friday

They don't go into any real detail to explain what works and doesn't work. I'd imagine the written review is more detailed but it broadly brushes over the idea that it's more fun than BL2 except that the bosses hurt the pacing and the main villains aren't villainous enough.

I get this. There was a review for RAD from McCafferey on IGN that was just terrible. It was more of a summary than an actual review.
