Now that we're talking about the dub, as a staunch defender of Xenoblade 2 let's all agree it will never be as bad as Xenoblade 2 due to its rushed localization and poor direction at least :P

I love some of the acting in XB2 but nothing in these trailers is as obnoxious as Rex's bad yells at least. :P

My assumption due having muted the user in question is the old "The PS1 version exists so you can go play that" and how absurd a defense of something calling itself a remake or remaster is due that always being the case. By saying "the original exists go play that" it creates no discussion of the material as the other poster stated "It could be a kirby game" because then people could just go "Don't like it go play the original."

It contributes little to the discussion and doesn't help with assessing the quality of the remake/remaster and how it honors its source material. Much like I can go "Harry Potter is a great film series but it is not a great adaptation" there's more nuance to the topic than "You have the books deal with it."
God Xenoblade 2's was such a disappointkent, some really good voice acting, but the direction just let it down.

Did they record it without any footage? Rex's battle cries were absolutely absymal.

I guess the jump to 3D makes me lose any connection to the secondary characters? I'm watching the trailer going "Am I supposed to know who that is?", because other than the major players, I certainly don't recognize any of the people or situations the team is in! Like, I don't remember parachuting in FF7. Was there parachuting and I just forgot that part? There was a lot of that going through my head. It has been 20+ years so I acknowledge it may just be me!
it has parachuting in the original game, but is towards the end if i'm not mistaken, they modernized the game, so some elements will really look different, but everyone in the trailer is known except for the new soldier

Well, some do. I had an ex that had that same slim figure but massive tits that Tifa here looks to have.

All you guys drooling for Aerith in the pretty dress and naming her best girl will be ashamed of your words and deeds once Tifa shows up wearing her dress.

I feel like the only time "just play the original" is valid as an argument is when the other side goes sincerely full ham like "it desecrates the sanctity of the game and ruins my life!"
Right and I wouldn't ever say that. I'm going to be buying into it and hoping/praying I'm completely off base with all of my assumptions and I can enjoy this game as much as everyone else. But right now all I have is a bunch of recontextualized scenes that change the stakes of things I'm very familiar with and I can't help but be uneasy.

I'm still going to buy part 1 because it's FF7 and I'm a huge fan and I won't miss out on a piece of gaming history, but if the first part is as bad as it could be (I'm actually leaning towards there only being minor complaints from people like me in the long run, but I'm going worst case scenario) it just means I don't buy into the next one and I just accept that you can't capture lightning in a bottle twice.

Stuff is hard with this much nostalgia and bias behind it for sure, which is why I try to focus on the story telling and comparisons and be as objective as possible with the comparisons to the original content as I can.

I hope people see me as just discussing a video game I love on a video game enthusiast board rather than saying this game is going to ruin my life. If not here where else should I talk about it?

Yeah like I love the UK localizations because they give us a break from the normal anime/funimation people, and loved things like Welsh Nia and stuff whereas in Japanese she's the typical cat girl voice, but the directors didn't help the actors at all for that one. But the whole development of that game was clearly...tight to say the least. XB2 is one of my favorite games of all time and yet I can still point out where all the constraints and problems are.

I'm worried this game suffers from pretty standard, i.e. bad, localization. At no point in that trailer did I think I was hearing dialogue from an even semi-competent English writer.

Good lord at the visuals, though. Blows Advent Children out of the water.

I hope Cloud being silent for the whole trailer is because they want to focus on the secondary characters and not because he got mopey again. Need my mosey Cloud.

Are the Turks' actors purposefully over-emphasizing the end of Aerith's name? Going to have to play with J dub E subs. :/

I don't know how much of it is due to the writing and how much of it is due to the voice direction, but I'll take your word for it, Feep.

They are in-game character models.

Here:

Watch the boss fight when it shows the camera change and focus on the boss moving around, the stats, and HUD are still on. I believe they are using in game rendering for their scenes so that it's instant.

The opening couple of shots are CGI, aka when Cloud is on the train. The rest of the trailer is in-game. The game is gonna have CG cutscenes.

There's quite a number of extra during that sequence.

To be clear, I was not taking a snipe on you with that comment. I think a lot of your concern is fair and I actually have quite a number of apprehension too. I'm simply the type that only go full-mode criticism after playing.

One of my most hyped games. Somewhat glad I didn't play the original. This one looks like it will not only be the best experience, but the complete one as well.

Do you even know what CG is? Do you know how most cut-scenes are done now? They use the same engine, sometimes if there are tons of effects yes they pre-render the scene. But a majority of what they showed at E3 and in May of this year was using in-engine scene rendering.

And looking at details on characters like their shoes/shadows in the newest trailer I can tell it's from in-engine rendering. Some might be pre-rendered, but most of what they have shown is in engine scene rendered.

Honestly, I'm fine with the new SOLDIER. In the original, they kinda only use other soldiers as regular enemies, you only can fight some in a map on the Shinra building. I hope they expand upon it.

Listened to the Corneo scene a couple times with headphones on. I'm about 90% sure that it IS Hamill based on the way he ends his line.

There's a chance it's someone doing an impression but I'm pretty damn sure it's Mark.

That's a fair perspective. I've noted every time I get a chance though that I'm happy to be quoted and eat my last meal of Crow if I'm wrong about everything as well. Which I hope has helped a bit. I don't feel like you were sniping, it was just my guilty conscience speaking up :P

Yes the entire game is technically CGI but "CG cutscenes" is a well-known term that refers to super duper high quality cutscenes rendered on expensive supercomputers.

I am aware that the game is going to be mostly comprised of in-game cutscenes. Just like literally every other Final Fantasy. What i'm saying is that it won't be in-game in its entirety, as evidenced by the shots of Cloud on the train. There will be some CGI cutscenes.
