Oh you absolutely must. If you like The Return you'll like FWWM I don't doubt.

Incidentally I rewatched FWWM last night for probably the 20th time. I love that movie.
For sure I really want to watch it!
I'm sort of enjoying the stupor The Return has put me in. Can't stop thinking about the rad Twin Peaks ride I've been on.

I severely miss the feeling of not having new episodes each week and having no idea what to expect. And I miss the music each week too.

Fuck it was unbelievable.

The season is enjoyable even knowing where it's going, in fact I would even say some aspects of it improve on rewatch when you know their ultimate pay-off/don't have expectations. But I do really miss having new episodes to watch, and that's a perfect way to word it; more than anything else I think I've experienced, I think starting an episode of Twin Peaks Season 3 and having no idea what to expect was unlike anything I've experienced before. Watching this series live was quite an experience.

Hi everybody. Has anyone here bought the standard slipcase version of season 3 on bluray? How does it look? Can't find any pics or videos.

Found out today that my girlfriend hadn't seen Fire Walk With Me yet, so I made sure we watched that when she was around today as I got her Season 3 for Christmas. She enjoyed it, but completely understood why it would have gotten booed at Cannes by people wanting some answers.

Which extra stuff 'became canon'?

Eh, FWWM is great as is, and if you watch the fan edit first, you're really going to water down how bleak and harrowing that film is supposed to be. The missing pieces have a lot of good stuff in them, but I think they work better as a companion piece that you watch after the movie, rather than the fan edits. Like, I'm down with fan edits where the original movie isn't brilliant, but that's not the case here.

I agree with you on fan edits in general, but FWWM q2 fan edit...putting the missing pieces in the film where they would be...is the best way to watch it.

This is from a guy who very much enjoyed the theatrical release on many viewings...and who rarely promotes such things.

The fact that Lynch agreed to show the missing pieces means he probably wasn't too keen taking them out in the first place, but was probably worried about the reception of the lean cut as it was.

The fan edit is about as close to Season 3 tonally as you will get. The movie is richer with the missing pieces placed back together.

I can't remember if that line was only in the Missing Pieces, but that ended up being a pretty important part of S3, I think.

Hey, I'm a bit late with asking this here, but does the UK version of the season 3 bluray set include subs in any language other than english? I haven't bought mine yet because it technically hasn't released yet over here, and my mother could use the dutch subs if we ever end up watching it again, but I now remembered the season 1 and 2 release was the same everywhere.

If it's really english only as some sites indicate I just hope we get the nicer packaging here when it finally releases...

Got my S3 Blu-ray, and immediately put Ep 8 on to check those visuals and dark black colors.

Looks so much better than it did streaming

Got the season 3 set for Christmas. I wasn't able to watch it when it aired so I marathoned it over the past few nights... I'm going to be mulling over what I just witnessed for a while.

Episode 8 is definitely the standout - it might be my favorite episode of the entire series.

Yeah ep 8 was incredible. It stands as some of the best stuff Lynch has ever filmed.

Is the box set currently available different from the "first-print" one, that had the sliding part that revealed Dougie/Dale? Or is it the same?

I watched the S3 Blu-ray last month. Looks beautiful for the most part, but some minor color banding pops up from time to time (e.g. Part 3) and there are weird digital artifacts in some scenes that I don't think were intentional (e.g. Part 14 woods scene). Still need to check out the special features. The special features seem to be "fly on the wall" kind of stuff, which is better than the usual "talking heads".

The LE with the sliding gimmick has gone out of print in the UK and was quickly replaced with a slipcase edition.

I see, that's unfortunate but the new one looks pretty good still. The first one was also a lot more expensive iirc, so that's a positive. Thanks!

So Lynch, Kyle and Laura Dern had breakfast this morning: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bd1aF60FxjA/

I'm not saying Season 4, but...
I don't think a new season will happen. I'd be willing to bet a movie will happen instead. Lynch said that writing an 18 hour season/movie took him years and it would be a long time before a 4th season.

Along side that, a lot of the actors have been dying recently. If there was to be more, I think a movie with a much shorter runtime and turnaround is more likely.

This makes a bunch of sense actually. If it's a choice between a movie and nothing, I'll gladly take a movie

I honestly feel like Lynch, Frost and the rest of the team are entitled to a long break, even if that means we never see Cooper and Diane again.

Until I saw some of the special features on the blu-ray it hadn't necessarily occurred to me that this was such a monumental undertaking for Lynch. I mean I know it is often joked about but in many ways this really was an 18 hour movie, with all that entails for a writer-director-show runner.

I would so love to have a continuation of the mysteries that opened up in episode 18 and would adore new questions to go with them, but I'm finding myself more and more accepting that as time goes on this really may not happen again.

I can't see how that's much easier/cheaper to manufacture than the original version?

I've accepted the fact that another Twin Peaks production could never happen, but even if it's just a movie, I'm truly fine and glad with what we got.

BUF posted a Twin Peaks effects reel. Sadly, it's almost entirely a collection of finalized shots from the show, but it does include a few interesting tidbits.

Lynch drew concept art of Fireman's mansion and his golden mind cloud:
The Experiment scene in Part 8 was done in color (she's all fleshy!):

And unrelated, but rad: Justin Weber, a Disney animator, made a short 1930s-style cartoon about a kettle (cue Coophead puns).

i finished the final dossier after lagging to read it for months. wasnt really much of a list of explanations since most of the stuff people suspected turned out true.

however the entire last part with briggs/philip jeffries/judy was nuts

Nuts in what way? I remember those chapters being rather uneventful, save for Frost's trademark ham-fisted attempts to wikify the show's mythology by linking it to pre-existing folklore.

So I don't put too much faith in this, but someone on reddit who claims to have worked on Season 3 in some unknown form claims that a secret 4th season was filmed alongside season 3, acting as a "Missing pieces"-esque "fill in the gaps" season.

Obviously take with a grain of salt, but if it is announced in May, I'd be very surprised.

Lynch and company did their best to hide Piper Laurie from the staff during Season 2 until her character's reveal as Mr. Tojamura. I could totally see him being crazy enough to hide another season entirely from the light until he felt it was time. I just don't think it's going to happen, and i'll be very surprised if this somehow ends up being true.

OH AND! This is the thing because of which I feel like this really should be a thing because it would bring the 253mystery full circle.

Season 2: 2 Season 3B: 3 + B (2) = 5 Season 3: 3
Utp0VW4.gif

There's so many other numbers on the clock that add to ten. 253 was always meant to be 2+3=5. Not to mention the whole thing between the crew calling it "Season 3" and Showtime calling it "The Return" stems from here. Showtime wanted 3B to then be Twin Peaks The Return, Season 2. You see how that looks better for them?

... wait a second, this dude might be onto something.

The reddit post has been removed, anyone know what it said?
Here:

This post might be deleted so I don't want to put in too much detail that ends up going to waste.

Think of the new season as... like imagine the Season 2 opener and how those were Episodes 8a and 8b. Think of the 2018 season as Season 3b, at least in the chronology of how they are meant to be viewed (but not exactly in the chronology of the show. Think Secret History/prequel).

This season acts as a... man, it's hard to explain. I worked on Twin Peaks in a very, very small capacity and I can tell you that the reason Lynch is stressed in the behind-the-scenes is not just because of the show you saw, but because of the show you haven't seen yet (if you even get to, but more on that later)...

The last scene is and will be the What year scene. 3b will be shorter (last I heard it was 9 half-hours) and it will be more of a... fill in the blanks. Of the scenes I knew were shot specifically for 3B, there are more with Steven, and in the Red fucking Room. I was excited to see in the Final Dossier that Steven was rightly mentioned as having gone missing... I also mention this mostly because the additional scenes that Lynch ended up removing from the final "The Return", such as the ones shown in the DVD of the Fireman in the Red Room might definitely end up in the new one.

The reason 3B even exists is because... well, this is the hard part to explain. The reason Showtime keeps saying "the door is always open" and Frost and Lynch say neversaynever is because the deal between Showtime and the creators is a highly unique one. Season 3B has been shot and even "put together" but it won't be given a final shape until the decision is made that Twin Peaks needs more. Particularly, the critical reception AND finance is being measured. If the critics would've called it a mess, Season 3B would have been pulled out to fill in the blanks and do this highly inventive new thing of a surprise season drop. And if it wouldn't have been a financial hit, 3B would've been used to get more subscribers, and more importantly, new merch (there are some scenes that are fucking RIPE for possibilities, particularly more Agent Cooper scenes with a direct "comeback" vibe, triumphant like the "i AM the FBI" one). Though, I can honestly promise you, them being in the "actual" show would have taken away from it.

I'm writing this post only because I myself am not sure of whether 3B will immediately happen or not, given that there doesn't need to seem the need to pull this out. It might still see a release whenever. It IS like The Missing Pieces, except that it forms a narrative of its own, giving us the Richard and Carrie story more context at the start and ending it at a loop.

OH AND! This is the thing because of which I feel like this really should be a thing because it would bring the 253 mystery full circle.

Season 2: 2 Season 3B: 3 + B (2) = 5 Season 3: 3

EDIT: oh and the official announcement is supposed to be in May!!! I have a feeling that even if it doesn't happen then the creators will still come out to say it publicly that there was supposed to be one, so that if interest is generated it can be dug up like The Missing Pieces ten or whatever years from now.

EDIT: definitely not gonna comment on the storyline, because it's all better when it's all subjective.

This isn't the first time this rumour has appeared - wasn't there a photo of something from the set suggesting two seasons being filmed side by side?

That said... it doesn't seem very Lynch, does it? "Better shoot a secret season in case people don't understand the narrative"

This has been the only place where I've read this crazy Season 3b thing, but I guess it says something about us when we don't fall for it like Kojima fans.
