That centipede is such a fun boss to fight. Hitting it and breaking off its individual parts is so satisfying.

And then it curls up and starts rolling around and you kind of hate your life for a little bit.

The cartwheel phase isn't too bad really, its just about getting the patterns down and I then found it easy to dodge. Plus Hugo + shield magic = get out of jail free card if you mess up. Only ways I really take damage on the boss now is a misjudged wheel attack or the boss doing a 180 turn and running into me as I hack it to pieces!

Uh, you can light up the mine in Ys 1? I don't mind the dungeon layout, and I can live without a map, but I really hate don't being able to see the full area.

By the way, nice that feeling when you feel like a god crushing enemies to the next second being cornered and feeling by you safety.

Sorry, but you're stuck feeling around in the semi-dark in Ys 1. In the sequel you get something to light up the dank caves, though.

I randomly decided to check NISA's blog to see all of the progress they've done for Ys VIII so far. It seems to be shaping up well so far--at the very least, the voice samples show promise. When the relocalization is finally out it's going to be veeerrrryyyy interesting to see people show comparisons

For the relocalization of Ys VIII, it's just gonna be a patch right? Like, if I buy it or get it for Christmas, I won't be stuck with the old version?

I thought it was already out on PC? Could have sworn...

Edit: oh wow it's not, haha. Well, no matter, I can get it on PS4 (uh, assuming it's 60fps... it is, right?).

GotY voting thread is up. Two Ys games are eligible this year: Ys Seven, and Ys VIII.

I just beat Seven tonight, Hard mode.

... I had to grind because when I first tried the last boss I got decimated (despite destroying
Tia in the first phase rather easily
). Dammit.

Bought Origins

Sucks that the game doesn't have cross save, I would have loved to play on my vita and PS4

Speaking of saving, how do you save in origins?

When you press the attack button to investigate a statue a menu should pop asking if you want to save. If it's not doing that then something is definitely wrong.

Off topic but I didn't know where else to post about this :V
Look I know Falcom were always a generation or two behind everyone else, but what's up with the Mega Drive/SNES-like soundtrack of Dinosaur Resurrection?

Don't get me wrong the music is ace in the Resurrection ver. but I just found it pretty funny that it sounds like something from the 16-bit era of consoles.

So according to this article (google translate so I might be wrong) but early in development Zwei II was a Ys game.

Finally had time to sit down and finish (except for post-game stuff) Ys VIII.

Loved it (even with the warts of a mediocre translation).

Damn, I still haven't finished Ys VIII myself. I stopped right before the second visit to the restored Valley of the Kings I think. I need to finish up Last Recode already and get back into it. Not sure how much further until the end.

I started Ys VIII even if the relocalization isn't out to at least give it a shot to see if it deserves a spot on my GotY list. xD

So far it's OK but... I think I liked Seven and Celceta better? Is this normal? >_> I like some QoL improvements, but there's too much story to my liking, which ruins the pacing, and the treatment of women is pretty puerile. The soundtrack, while still good, doesn't seem as amazing as Seven.

I'm really early into it though so this opinion might be premature. The base-building sounds like it could be fun and I'm glad the map-writing is back.

Ys 8 is such a wonderful game. I think I may replay it with the new translation. Def one of the better rpgs released last year.

Also am I remembering incorrectly or is Laxia's voice sound different in that clip above?

TBH I kind of feel like relocalizing the whole game is kind of a waste of time, I mean, hell, it was slightly better than what Tokyo Xanadu came out as and I don't hear nearly as many people complaining about that (admittedly that's because not nearly as many people bought it...). Even if it will help the overall experience somewhat, I really doubt it'll suddenly make the story or characters actually interesting this time around. Although I suppose it'd at least justify charging full price for the 5+month late Steam release...

It definitely still had a lot of issues, like one scene where an enemy was referred to by 3 different names in the same cutscene, and even a fourth later in the story. There were also a few times where a flashback to an earlier scene would have different text than it did the first time, and a bunch of typos and punctuation errors too.

They re-recorded the entire game, so everything will probably sound at least a little different, even in places where the lines were unchanged.

It's still all the same actors, if that's what you're asking.

Soooo, when does Ys VIII actually "start" ?

Like, I'm enjoying the game. Combat is fun and I am definitely OK with grinding which I've been doing, but there isn't a ton happening yet, despite me having 15-20 hours in the game. Is it just a really slow opening?

I just did the event where you have to protect the castaway village from the "Ancient Beast" before I last stopped playing.

Has NISA confirmed a reléase date for the translation patch?

Has NISA confirmed a reléase date for the translation patch?
Last year they said
I don't want to throw out a hard date then have to backtrack again, but, barring any unforeseen issues, we are currently looking to get this out early next year.

So soon™. Hopefully.

Also, Nisa's blog has the localization updates really inconsistently tagged - some are tagged with Ys VIII, others with Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, and yet others tagged with neither.

That just makes me even more wary of how much of an improvement it'll really be. I was expecting it no sooner than March.

It would have eased my concerns if they could have taken an extra month or two, indeed. I don't blame them for wanting to get this over with, but it shows a bit too much, especially when they announce a release date right before they're calling for beta-testers... Well it's not like I expected them to learn from their past mistakes, but... ya know...

The localization previews look solid so I have no complaints there.

I am however very worried about the PC port. I don't want a Nier Automata situation where a great game is forever buggy.

Well, they're obviously going to show the stuff they feel best about, so it's not truly indicative of anything.

Except Automata is mostly fine, with a few ridiculous issues sprinkled in because Square Enix.

By all accounts, Ys 8 was plain garbage. I'm not expecting much, to be honest.
