PG&E may cut power to 30 counties in NorCal for 'severe wind event, Alerts sent out at 4am for tomorrow

Our entire neighborhood is out. We got in the car and drove the kid to school and everywhere else in CV is up. It's bizarre.
PG&E has been tweeting that if you still have power in counties that were supposed to be affected, you won't be losing power anymore. Still have power here, so I guess I've been spared.

Yeah, it seems that the winds isn't going to keep moving down, and dissipated, so looks like the outage was just mainly in the north, and then the east areas, and not quite reaching down far enough south.
Good news for those who were in planned outages. :D
8:56 a.m. California prisons affected by shut-offs: California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials said three state prison facilities were affected by the shut-offs, and two more could be affected Thursday. The state prison in Solano and the California Medical Facility were operating on generator power, while Avenal State Prison had a power shut-off Wednesday. Officials began to restore limited power, but some buildings remained without power and the facility's main kitchen was running on a generator.

My works power is out here in Lafayette along with all of downtown it seems. I heard the power came back on for some who are further east of Lafayette though so maybe they are trying to turn some areas back on.

Went home to unplug everything from the walls in case the power surges when it comes back on.
Went to a local cafe to use wifi, but it requries a purchase. I order a coffee and bagel. Their card machine is down - so I say I'll be back with cash.
I go to Safeway which is running on a generator-I purchase water and a charging cable for my phone which I forgot in my other car. I go to pay and Safeway's debit machine isn't working.
I then drive to a working Chase so I can use the ATM machine to get cash.
I drive back to the cafe, order my food and coffee. I then try to login to their wifi and it's not working. "Oh it's down today", they say.
So now I've gone to Dublin and I'm using a place with wifi to work but the connection is slow. I'm stressed out and frustrated. I have to do pickup for the girls later too and there's no cell service at my house.
I am now thinking about getting a generator from Amazon:

probably worth the investment if you live in one of the affected zones, unless you plan on moving anytime soon. Looks like we might be dealing with this one or more times per year going forward until the fixes are in place.
That sucks... Something simple to run around like that, creating a HUGE hassle. Regarding the banks/atms, I was told that banks even in other unaffected areas ARE being impacted, probably due to wherever their servers are located. (Wait, I thought unaffected areas shouldn't worry?)
Hearing from one of our state reps that barring additional unexpected weather conditions, that lake, mendo, trinity, southern Marin, and Sonoma counties will begin power restoration today between 10am-2pm but it can still take a while, and power won't be restored until it's all checked out. Still, after two days of camping in my home, I'd be thrilled if I woke up tomorrow to power throughout the neighborhood.

10:10 a.m. Berkeley tweet still sparking outrage: A firestorm of angry responses continued Thursday morning after the city of Berkeley tweeted that people with power-dependent medical needs should "use your own resources" to get to an unaffected area. Those unable to relocate alone were instructed to call 911, but that hasn't satisfied many people. The city later added that it reached out to medical customers, visited homes and had emergency staff ready to assist. Officials did not immediately respond for comment.
Yeah a looooooooot of unforced errors by local governments during this incident. Given how many meetings, and committees, and cohorts, and trainings, etc.. your local city & county DEMs (Dep. Emergency Mgmt) have regularly, it blows my mind how caught off guard most of them have acted. PGE obviously deserves the lion's share of blame for their vagueness, but that makes it even more important for local agencies to have a clear and consistent message and plan for their communities.
Granted communities in Sonoma & Butte counties have had major incidents in the past two years that they've learned from, but I'm still incredibly impressed with how well managed things seem at the local level where I'm at compared to my neighbors to the south. I'm sure if SF were affected and I was still living there it would be a shitshow to end all shitshows.
Given that this is likely the new normal and to expect it multiple times in given year, I'll be interested to see what kind of renewed political pressure thus brings to bear on PGE at the local and state level.

I was in a supposed to be affected area in San Jose (Alum Rock) and every update they've posted had me really uneasy. But it looks like we're fine.
SCE cutting power to my area 'imminently' due to the wind. Hopefully it doesn't come with the 48 hour timeframe.
Around what area are you in? I know PGE has linemen out inspecting right now in Sonoma county and will slowly bring power back on if they don't run into issues.
No power for a day in the Santa Cruz mountains, just sitting on the porch looking at all the wind that isn't blowing.
Would be a good idea, if what I hear is true and this becomes the new normal. Having these events happen once or twice annually is going to suck.
Humboldt county, we have been with power since 4 am though so i think we're safe
