Really poor art direction. Could be fun and even heart-warning but it looks very generic so far.

art direction is still lackluster but im digging the Weekend At Bernies meets Roadtrip Movie meets Fantasy premise

I dislike the art direction. The body types and faces feel like characters we've seen in animated films fairly recently.

I'm still gonna see it. I wasn't particularly excited for Inside Out and that film made me cry like a baby when I saw it so I'm sure this will hit me hard, too.

It should be noted that the vast majority of Pixar trailers are not very good, especially early trailers

After seeing a Ghibli, every Pixar seems so bland
Are you talking about the company that has used the exact same stock character design templates for almost every film they've ever made across 4 decades?

Now, if you had compared this to something like Spider-Verse I'd agree.

I'm so tired of "white suburban family" but with a twist! animated tropes. I've seen this mom a million times for example. She looks like a blue clone of the mom in Monsters U! Even the lanky lead is just a blue looking Linguini, down to his mannerisms. I mean I'm sure it's going to be entertaining but I expect better of Pixar by now, more specificity. Coco blew me away, but this disappoints me.

So.... Tear jerker ending. The trousers were magic trousers all along, and not sentient. The trousers weren't dad at all. They either find a "recorded message" OR their dad comes back for a very short time to say "I needed you to believe I was with you so you could become a wizard". Or something similar.

I know some think this is just a Dreamworks movie or what not, but this looks like a ton of fun.

Also it's nice having something new and not another remake or sequel

At the start of the trailer, my interest was probably about 4/10.

By the end, I'm at more like an 8.5/10. This seems cool.

Having not seen this movie yet, they really should have cast Jack Black and not Chris Pratt.

I was definitely getting some Jack Black vibes, but it didn't really click until I read your post. You're spot on.

Everyone knows that Ghibli movies are great, but this is a hella lame take.

Two Pixar movies in 2020.

This looks like the mediocre one and Soul will be the good one.

Man, this is gonna be such a tough watch for any kids who've lost a parent.

Kids or adults, that's probably ultimately who this is for; knowing Pixar, I'd bet the half-there parent is a metaphor for the memory and lasting legacy of a parent. Still able to influence your actions and emotions while not being able to directly communicate.

Onward is totes a double meaning in that scenario.

Pixar has a history of mediocre trailers so while it itself wasn't all that good, I'm sure the film will be, even if it isn't top tier stuff. In.
