It would hypocritical of the US if they decided to meddle, especially now, given all the hysteria in the country over the recent election.

The US won't intervene simply because there's no real election to intervene in to begin with.

Hah, irony.

What election? It's literally just a coronation for Putin, there is no meaningful democracy in Russia, it's a dictatorship in all but name. Anyone who says otherwise is either hopelessly deluded or a Putin shill.

There would have to be an actual election to meddle in lol. Putin just barred the only actual opposition candidate, otherwise it's diet Putin, Putin concentrate, or communists.

Another irony is that Putin has benefited from US meddling in Russia's democratic process in the past since the US propped up the Yeltsin campaign in 96 and he went on to effectively groom Putin as his successor.

I actually kind of respect Putin for being able to say this with a straight face. I wouldn't be able to deliver that line without cracking up halfway through.

I don't think it's really possible for the US to meddle in the upcoming election in Russia in the same way they did in the US. People here don't really use social media as much or the same way they do in the US. It isn't really seen as an important extension of one's life where video, news and media is consumed daily from it. Political discourse isn't really a thing here either so it's hard to influence a conversation if it isn't happening. FB and twitter aren't popular in Russia either.

The only ones who do use it are the trolls hired by Putin right? :P

Putin was appointed director of the FSB directly by Yeltsin in 1998, and then appointed Prime Minister again by Yeltsin a year later. The actual changeover may not have been entirely on Yeltsin's terms but he was clearly groomed for the position of president.

He was technically appointed by Yeltsin. It was not Yeltsin who selected him, nor pushed him up the political scene. It was the Russian security apparatus (or the "deep state"). He was groomed for president, but not by Yeltsin.

Has anyone actually read the article in the OP?
it has nothing to do with hacking or social networks

Now Trump can really say the US isn't so innocent when it comes to accusing Russia in tampering in our elections.
