I agree completely. There was on user on GAF that used it constantly and i am not sure if it was the posters intention to come off as condescending but it sure felt that way.

No it wasn't that. It was just a case whenever this particular user disagreed he would write a short response with a :) or :D at the end of the response and more often than not it came off as really condescending. I mean at the end of the day who cares no harm done but i just couldn't help but notice it.

:P is way more annoying to me. I've also noticed this specific emoji is used more frequently by people rocking anime avatars, usually when they're defending giant anime titties or dismissing legitimate complaints about weeb culture. Am I generalizing? Possibly! :)

I've only used it once or twice and when I did, I meant it as an honest smile.

Sometimes I put a winkyface at the end of my post to denote that I'm just being cheeky with my sardonic putdowns, with no malicious intent.
