Finished Vol 33. I spent all of Chimera Ants missing the cool Kurapika mafia shit and then they introduce the 14 Princes... don't know how y'all can stand the wait for this series lol
Me too! I looooove the visuals. Dub is so good too.
I never got the love people have for dubs. Yeah its convenient to hear it in your own language, watching Anime Subs only requires sooooo much reading, but I dunno, I feel like the original voices should be heard at least once, and its how it was intended to be viewed. And this isn't just for Anime, any foreign media I consume is always going to be with subs.
Found this video on one of my weekly HxH searches and I think its a pretty succinct breakdown of the character of Alluka and how Togashi deals with gender identity. I felt much the same way after watching the series as the creator of the video but they voiced what I was thinking a lot better.

The Alluka part is interesting and probably right, but i think he is way over analyzing Nanika part. Togashi is just setting it up as an Ai possessing Alluka, thats really it.

I think in regards to how a lot of LGTBQ are treated even by those who support and want to help them it fits pretty well. Togashi may not have been trying to make a statement with these choices but you can easily read into them beyond a surface level.

Also it's interesting that Togashi choose Alluka for the whole gender thing (diference between Killua and family) when Kalluto is literally dressed like a girl and it's never been adressed in any way, i bet most people still think he is a girl.

Just finished Greed Island, baby! Before I go into it, what the flying FUCK, Chimera Ants literally means bug people and a giant Ant Queen? This is gonna get insane, my Anime senses are tingling. But yeah, back to Greed Island, what a wild ride. If I had to sum up my feelings in one image:
I guess this needs to go into spoilers cause people are like me, probably getting into this for the first time.
Togashi, for all intents and purposes has just surpassed Yu Yu Hakusho for me. Or is it David Pro being a far better studio then Pierrot, fully grasping the Manga and its characters? I have no idea, but both Togashi's world and the delivery by David pro are stellar. Greed Island, as a concept is fucking genius first off. Going by the timeframe it was written, this would be the early 2000s correct? So you have a boatload of Shonen manga doing the jump into a virtual reality world thing, with Video Game rules and what not, so when a masterpiece like this decides to do an arc like this, I was at first shocked and dismayed. No way a modern day Da Vinci of a Mangaka would stoop to such derivative levels of mediocrity. Of course not. Fuck you for expecting me to do that you simpletons, of course its in the real world! And on top of that, this madman decided to make Greed Islands for all intents and purposes, a training ground for Gon. So far, the series is like if Blackbeard expected Luffy to Chase One Piece, decided he needed to go through hell for him to get ready, and decided to create the Marines, chase down every fucking pirate in the world, build Marineford for the Marines, and made the Grand Line the way it is up to Marineford just ot train Luffy for the Red Line.
Then you have a wrech thrown in, Genthru. A simple minded fool who just wants to beat this damn game, like everyone else. Except he is a murderous Psychopath. Wow. I never expected Gon to be that committed to fighting, that he would blow his hands off. Add in Bisky, and its very lucky that he even survived. I'll let this slide, because of how cool a fight it was. Lastly, Hisoka, holy shit. This guy is 100% insane, and I love love love that he exists. He just wants to fight Chrollo, but he also knows helping Gon will advance his next rival to new heights. Its like if Toguro decided to take Yusuke to the demon world and train him before their fight in the Tournament. Absolutely bananas. I also have to give it up to David Pro again, for their stellar work. The pacing, the drama, the comedic timing, everything is so meticulously placed that it just works as a whole, and nothing ever feels forced. Combined with a very smooth animation style and a soundtrack that just keeps giving, I can finally understand the praise.
Finally, that gambit to hand Gon over to Kite. Everything is leading up to Gon's training, and I really want to know why that is. Surely it can't just be the Chimera Ants?
I didn't know much about Dragon Ball beyond the Gohan/Goku parallel w/ Gon/Ging, so learning that aspect to his character made Hisoka make so much more sense.
Whoops, Madhouse, yeah. Both are excellent studios, and Madhouse furthers my opinion that its a better work then YYH. Not like Pierrot didn't try their damnest with it and succeed, but if you had 2011 Pierrot try to do the same VS Madhouses work on HxH, it would be no contest.
Volleyball? I thought it was dodgeball. Or something like dodgeball. It was confusing. But yeah, that was extreme, stupid as hell, and I loved it. Gon is slowly getting smarter, and it shows. I can't wait to see what he has done for Scissor and Paper Nen moves, hopefully they are as OP as rock.
Killua is an assassin prodigy child who has lighting aura, how realer can shit get? Jesus.
Also I hate to ask, but. That Hisoka Bath Scene. Gon and Killua's subtle suggestive eye raise, it was because of Hisoka's subtle suggestive raise, right?

I assumed so when Bisky started drooling. Man what a weird character. That might be my only issue with the series so far. You got Hisoka with those Pedo vibes, and then you have Bisky who is a 50 year old in a Loli body. I am not acusing Togashi of anything, its just that this show can get uncomfortable.

To be fair is all power related, it just happens that Killua and Gon are kids. The guy has a "hard on" for Chrollo too, he gets sexual release from fighting and killing strong people.
Bisky should have just powered up, that would have gotten Hisoka "full" attention. :P
According to Togashi databook she is stronger than Chrollo and Hisoka.

Sure I get that completely, and its fun to see an actual sexual reaction to fighting instead of the usual machismo schlock shonen usually has. But I guess that's the point, unbridled sexual tension independent of age because of their fighting prowness is definitely something new for me, and I can only assume it gets weirder here on out.
Bisky being stronger then both makes total sense. The way I see it, you have the new generation(Kurapika, Gon, Killua etc) who all are really good at Nen and grow fast because the previous generation are a bunch of dicks(Chrollo, Hisoka, etc), or not the best of a parents(Ging, Silva, etc),meanwhile the Bisky(and I assume Netorero?) generation is way out of everyone's league because of how much time they had to hone their skills. All speculation of course, but its the vibe I'm getting.

Well Bisky is also almost 60 years, in comparison Chrollo and Hisoka are still much younger. Also don't forget that Ging is Top 5 best nen in the world.
Also Netero is way older than Bisky, even a lot older than Zeno.

Right. I was trying to say that each age group is stronger as you get older in terms of experience and what not, but as you go younger the latent power and talent exceeds the older users.

Absolutely, i think Bisky commented on Killua and Gon already being at a level that she only reached in her high 20's.
But not everyone is like that, it just that Gon and Killua have massive potential, Killua is most talented Zoldyck to ever been born.
She did yes. And its not only Gon and Killua, Kurapika has those crazy red eyes, the little brat with Wing could get better later on, and I think if we ever run into other kids they will be as proficient if not more in Nen.

The dodgeball match is great. It's a shame that Bisky didn't get a bigger role though.
Hisoka was great to watch, and the clown pretty much stole the glory right from our heroes!
Obviously, this is the first time we really see the full power of Gon's signature attack and his raw-power. Even Razor was like holy shit, this kid is a monster. Gon can be scary sometimes.
Also, it's great that Togashi showed that potential can manifest in several ways, which was essentially Killua's role in the game. He doesn't have the raw aura/power that his peers have but his skill/talent with Nen is literally Ging 2.0 in the making

Gon is physically stronger and shows a stronger nen (in terms of raw destructive ability), but Killua is probably the better fighter because he prepares for fights, adapts his strategies for different situations, and has Nen abilities that can be used in a variety of ways in a fight. Meanwhile, Gon subscribes to the Goku school of punching them as hard as he can until Gon wins, which works about as often as you'd expect it to.
Okay, assume that is coming up soon. Episode 20 is the last episode of the hunter exam, Gon learns that Killua kills the one guy. Now I believe Gon is looking for Killua.

I occasionally imagine a Genthru vs Killua fight and I envision a fight where Killua doesn't
get his fucking hand blown off
It's always striking when they have Gon and Killua have fights back to back. They DO NOT fight the same way. They both think yes, but my god they do not think the same way.
Holy shit. I might have to write up an impressions post every 5 eps because things just got downright insane. Like, I thought JoJo was up there, but this? Wow. Pink Koala's with guns, giant bug people with guns, and a fucking book reading penguin of all things. Best part is that this all takes place in a peaceful nation that is just a front for the worlds biggest an arms and drugs cartel, that is run by Dio Brando apparently.

Oh shit those giant doors to the Zoldyck estate was their first use of Nen, wasn't it. That's some oda tier planning.
You haven't even hit the crazy shit yet. It's my favorite arc for a reason. The whole arc is just some slow burn downward spiral craziness and I love and hate it for that. It'll suck your soul bruh.
