That was really hard for me.
Didn't play it for half a year and this thing greets me as I enter the DLC area...was this your first try?
I had to relearn when to use the different weapons through fighting this unbelievably fierce robot. :D
I died like 5 times to that damn thing lol. Ultra Hard is no fucking joke. It's not even an easy enemy, I almost died to the one that's in the Tall Neck area.

The thing that makes Ultra Hard really hard is that you can't knock your enemies down so easily. If you play on Very Hard you can almost bet that your enemy goes down after three consecutive melee attacks, which gives you the possibility for a critical hit.
On Ultra Hard you don't have that luxury.

I don't melee that much so I haven't even noticed. I'm more of a traps and ambusher for the most part. Having to learn the new machines with more health is going to be a challenge though.

Melee attacks are pretty OP if you use them right after dodging.
Not so much on Ultra Hard though. :D

Oh, I don't use these balloon traps at all. Didn't use them once until my brother told me that I can use them halfway through the game. :D
I use my bows, tripcaster and slings. That's pretty much it.

I don't use the traps either, I consider the tripcaster stuff as traps. I only really melee Watchers and Scrappers if I'm too close, I think everything else I just try to gain some distance on and try to hit their weak spot. I'm not going to enjoy UH Behemoths when I get to them I'm sure or fucking Rock Breakers.

I was thinking that Horizon is under appreciated game post was funny and kind of a joke. Now I really think Horizon is under appreciated.

Bones are slightly rarer than skins, IIRC. Just keep hunting boars, you'll get them eventually. You just might be having bad luck.

Honestly no idea why people were complaining about the hunting grounds that much. I think they're pretty fun, the only stressful challenge so far was the one with the crab containers. I've yet to do the two hunting grounds in the desert though so maybe those are the annoying ones.

I hope for the next title in the franchise they'll add a secondary weapon wheel, it's annoyingly having to go the the inventory and reassign slots.

If you have harvest arrows, IIRC, that increases the drop chance for that stuff.
Haven't run in to that yet, I'm level 19 and when do I get an upgrade for the regular bow? I'm on very hard and it does pretty much the same damage as it did at level 1 even with 2 modifications.

Where are you? You should be running into upgraded bows soon. Check the vendors in the bigger settlements. Harvest arrows are a part of a different type of bow, that should also be available soon (if not already).

Damage wise, the sharpshot bow does the most damage but is also slower to fire. Personally, I use the upgraded version of the starter bow with all handling modifications (as opposed to damage). This way I can notch 3 arrows extremely quickly and keep firing at enemies. It's lesser damage per shot, but more damage overall since you fire more arrows in general.

You get a better bow. Sharp Shot Bow is honestly the best one for damage, but you have to buy it and it has to be expensive as fuck on Very Hard. Shit's too expensive on Ultra Hard.

For straight ambush I triple notch precision arrows. Takes out Scrappers in one go until I got to the DLC. I have 2 damage mods and one handling in there.

Not an upgrade, it's a different bow altogether.
Yeah that's what I meant. But something different from the precision bows right? Something that uses regular arrows and fire arrows? Because so far the rarest weapons merchants have in stock is the shadow sling.

I was running damage a bit and sharpshot was well but couldn't do it on the DLC on very hard.

The enemies are just too damn fast to notch arrows in combat (and have like 0 downtime). I needed the handling mods so I could boost my damage considerably. Being able to notch 3 arrows and focus fire them in half a second is a god send. I could fire 12-15 arrows in one focus.

It's part of the sharp-shot bow, just uses different ammo (harvest arrows). If I remember correctly, you need at least a blue version of the bow to unlock harvest arrows.

TBH I never used harvest arrows. Animal materials are not hard to get. If you're just after fish, there are plenty in the Nora lands.

I haven't been doing that badly so far. If I'm in that bad of a spot I lay down some trip wires and such, fuck Scorchers though, those have way too much health.

Ok I looked on the wiki and I want the shadow and adept variants of weapons.

Are adept ng+ only? What level do the shadow weapons start popping up to buy?

And I have the forager tree except for the overdrive stuff maxed out and now am going in the stealth tree but maybe I should start focusing on the brave tree... also have aim assist off lol

Adept is NG+ weapons and are super expensive on Ultra Hard, I'll probably never get them. I think better stuff hits the merchants near and at Meridian.

Ok so it's not by level and it's by story progression? I just wish they had them all in stock.
Probably too early to even afford the Shadow stuff anyway. In the beginning it's not that much of a hassle and a lot of the later merchants pretty much sell everything I think. Once you get the gold fast travel pack stuff like that is a minor nuisance.

Yeah I finally got to carja territory so Now I'm seeing more rank 2 and 3 weapons. The shards aren't a problem it's more some of the rare mats I don't have. Also out of outfit space because I like having one of each outfit, wish the game had a transmogrify thing for them since there's so many and sometimes I'll prefer a lower tier.

You can do it near the main road where the other monsters barely reach you.
finally got it, it was more luck than challenge lol

anyway it's kind of annoying bombs and shock stuff don't explode in water and shock doesn't electrify water and freeze bombs don't freeze water... divinity OS has spoiled me I guess. Just annoying since the gameplay is built solely around the combat and different ammo types and all.

Just started the game. Do you guys recommend I use the DLac gear? Seems like outfit and bow
I used it and it didn't make a huge difference imo. I still found it challenging in the early hours even on normal. Actually I'm still using the armor at level 32 just slotted with rare mods because I'm not sure in which armor I should invest

Just finished the frozen wilds, reaching level 55 by the end of it (starting from a fresh plythrough) and god damn. Well done GG.

First, the main story of the DLC is fantastic with a great emotional payoff in the end.

The side quests were also amazing, introducing some really memorable characters (although there were a bunch of quests that got a bit too repetitive and relied on the same formula too much).

Although the use of voice logs are usually hit or miss, there's one set that was really excellent for me, and reminded me how powerful these tiny bits of audio logs can be (it was almost as good as the ish side story in the Last of Us - but more fun).

It was also great that the side quests had some great gear as payoff.

Also the DLC was quite the challenge from a difficulty standpoint even on normal and even if i was a bit over levelled.

Took me about 13 or 14 hours to finish, including all activities. Now just have to do the post-DLC content after you're done with the main story.

PS bought the Carja Blazon Banuk variant, it's my favorite variant of the Carja Blazon armor.

PPS immediately noticed Emily Rose's voice lol. I couldn't unhear Elena, but it's always a voice I'm super happy to hear.

Loved the DLC, would highly recommend it to vanilla only owners. Horizon was already my GOTY, and this just separated it from the pack even more.

PPPS The Bandit fights are still by far the worst missions in the game, and the human on human combat is still pretty blah. That's still probably one of my biggest gripes in the game.

Ugh, I can't help but feel that the cauldrons suuuuck. Dark, uninspired dungeons with bad collusion boundaries that you get lost in for minutes on end simply because everything looks the same? Yuch.
Atleast I think I've only got two or three left and could finish the hunting grounds today after unlocking the Ravager override. Fighting alongside two Ravagers blasting a Thunderjaw with its disc shooter was awesome :D to top it off it dropped a 40% damage coil

I liked the Cauldrons. :( They were really cool and atmospheric and helped mixing things up.

So what's a good main story point to start Frozen Wilds? Sb mentioned it supports a certain aspect? I just got the Grave Hoard Mission on level 39. Grave hoard starting point is right near the DLC area entrance so is this it?

Really enjoyed the backstory from the holograms btw but feel the story suffers pacing-wise just like in most open world games. I'll need to watch a story recap with all the data points etc taken into consideration after I finish the game, surely somebody made the effort.

I'm so glad I didn't look at trailers to this beyond the initial E3 stuff, the diversity in environments in the base game is much better than I was expecting.

I don't mind inventory limits but this one bugs me because materials only go up to small stacks.

The outfits costing 12000 extra shards and a rare machine heart on Ultra Hard is a terrible decision.

I'm playing through this dlc and this is still an amazing looking game and the combat is great.

However I'm finding I'm just skipping all the cutscenes. I don't really care for any of the characters or the story in the dlc although I loved the plot in the main game. I'm actually skipping everything to get to the actual gameplay which I don't normally do. I don't think any of it such as characters and why you're here is interesting. Anyone else finding the same?

Agreed. I have my resource bag fully upgraded AND the 20% extra skill and I'm still running out of space. Wish the stacks had double the size for some items or they had storage boxes in towns for machine materials.

I'm playing the base game through gamesharing, I wanna buy Frozen Wilds on my account. Will it work like normally or do I need to have the DLC on the same account?

Okay, that cauldron hijacked by the cultists was actually super dope all around. Very well designed with a bunch of nice touches that I won't spoil here. When you got out of the dungeon... so good. Almost made me forget my frustration with the other ones.

Also got four freeze bellows to fight each other to death haha. Love that machine vs machine aspect.
