Really? I thought the naval combat has been great. I mean, I wasn't too into it in Origins, but in Black Flag?

There are two naval missions in the game (three if you have the deluxe edition). Set the difficulty to easy and breeze through it if it bothers you; they're very brief. Personally, I loved it in Black Flag, so I was pleasantly surprised when it made a return in Origins, although it's been dumbed down to an obnoxious degree (you can win basically every battle by bracing, releasing a counter-volley, and repeating forever; it's like they took the positive changes they made to repetitive combat and said "what if the ship battles were more like this instead?"). You can't even board. What's the point? But man, the water graphics in this make me pine for a proper pirate follow-up to Black Flag (fingers crossed for Skull & Bones).

I finished the story this morning. The actual origins of the creed were incredibly rushed and how they came up with the assassins symbol was silly. But otherwise the game was fantastic and I will enjoy exploring the rest of the map. GOTY hands down for me.

So, I just realized something funny: one of the main reason I like this game so much is that the stealth ai is....horrible. You can get into full combat with a guy right next to his buddy and often he wouldn't even notice anything. Since I tend to suck at stealth, this allows me to quickly get back into stealth mode after fucking up, compared to games with better ai where getting spotted often means a whole area now is after you. More games need bad stealth ai!

Bought it finally today for Xbox One X. :)

Started it and have a little question, there are no specific X Enhanced options are they? It just is Enhanced when I have a X?

Ah come on. Photo upload to a special Ubisoft AC Photo Mode website is cool, but just useless when they are only in jpg. -.-

And If I press A for take photo on Xbox One, I still manually have to make a screenshot right? Cause it doesn't save it automatically it seems.

Killed my first Phylake last night at level 20 and it was extremely satisfying. It was the one in Alexandria and he kept beating the shit out of me when I tried to fight him face to face. I decided to wait and try a ranged approach but I needed a better predator bow. I decided to do Reba's daily quest on the off chance I might get one. The RNG gods were with me and I ended up getting a legendary predator bow with flaming arrows and increased stealth and critical damage! I found where the Phylake was standing around on the street and shot him in the head a bunch of times while hiding on a roof. Once he stopped being on fire he was sort of stunned so I ran over to where he was standing and killed him with an aerial head stab with the hidden blade. This game rules!

Can Senu find tombs and hermit places, or are my only options paying $2 or using a outside guide?

Not too far into the game.

That cold open was fucking awFul. But enjoying how the game plays so far. Are the side quests good in this game?

Is there a difference between the camel and horse? Or is that money just aesthetics. Traveling feels so slow.

The side quests are a mixed bag, a lot of them are pretty basic, but some are pretty great.
Mounts all have the same speed, it's just cosmetic, they speed up a bit when you are traveling outside of towns and cities.

Tombs and hermit locations are just question marks on the map. The former aren't too hard to come across (if you need a hint, and this is sort of a spoiler, look for
questions marks that shimmer gold on the map. Those are tombs that have ancient mechanisms in them
).

Hermit locations are tricky, though. The UI will let you know when you're near one, so just look for a blanket. There's one that's harder than the rest, for sure.

As for LOD questions - it's better. If you look to the far distance or at the ground, you're always going to see pop in, or higher quality models swapping in. It's worse in Alexandria than anywhere else, but that's always been the case, glitch or no glitch. But the whole "stand in front of a statue for ten seconds before the texture loads" thing has largely been resolved.

Don't pay for a map; all of that stuff is available for free online. There are only 5 hermit locations, and they appear as regular question marks, so as you're clearing locations you'll inevitably find them. There are tons of tombs, but again, they all appear as question marks already (and glow a faint gold color as opposed to pure white, although it can be an extremely subtle difference).

I'm honestly surprised at how good the game looks and how well it runs on a base PS4. I haven't encountered any major graphical glitches either. You can tell they took the time to polish this one. It's perhaps not as jaw-droppingly gorgeous as Horizon, but it has better water and the world design is busier, and it's a multiplat, so yeah, a very impressive technical feat (and the art direction is great too).

Really, could have sworn horses felt faster haha. Maybe it's a psychological thing, my mind playing tricks on me.

I just saw a screenshot with a chocobo mount. I need that thing ASAP. xD

Too bad they didn't spend as much effort on the PC version. Last ubisoft game I buy on PC I swear.

Thanks everyone. I had already caught a couple of star circles using the faint glow around a question mark. It's good to know that the other ones are also findable that way. I don't mind having to track them down, I would've just been miffed if I had no choice other than outside websites.

Trust me, I wasn't about to pay them money for that!

So i just go to the Aya: Blade of the Goddess quest, are you locked into that quest if you accept to go to alexandria, the game sort of makes it seem like it's the end, can you go back to the open world after this?

I also thought that the horses where faster, but i timed them and they are the the same, i think the more rapid beat of their hoofs opposed to the camels long strides makes it seem faster.

I think this is a really solid pc port by ubisoft standards, what problems have you had with it?

Just finished the main story in 84h, what an amazing game and I haven't finished every quests or done everything, the game is massive, too much to be honest with you, I'll make a pause and come back later to finish everything, best AC since AC2.

I just got this as a belated Christmas present. I'm only a little ways in, and I had to hit Googleto see if I'd accidentally skipped an opening cutscene or something. I went from "Looking at the Pharaoh" to "GRR ARGH REVENGE" in about thirty seconds. I mean, I like my res as in medias as the next guy, but the transition seemed really abrupt. I trust it'll all get fleshed out later.

It sort of does. Unfortunately the entire game has an issue with story cohesion. Still an incredible game though. It kinda feels like FFXV with how choppy and segmented the story can be. Funnily enough FFXV was my 2016 GOTY and ACO is my 2017 GOTY.

Just finished the story. Didn't really understand much of what was going on but I can't say I was paying full attention to it the entire time. The cutscenes themselves were entertaining enough j guess, but this game didn't really have any notable set pieces. I remember Syndicate having more memorable moments than this.

I'm probably going to complete the Phylake side quest before I start cleaning the map since that armour looks pretty good. Does anyone have a map or guide with all the Phylake locations?

Nah, they make it seem like a point of no return, but it's really just the start of a pretty long (like maybe two hours?) string of missions you commit to. Granted, you gotta finish them before you can get back to the open world, but you'll get there.

I'm really digging this game. I just have two quick questions:

1) I'm getting a lot of equipment I don't need. And what I've been doing is dismantling them for extra crafting resources. Is that the smart thing to do or should I get in the habit of selling what I don't need at shops?

2) I'm really addicted to clearing out all areas in this game but I've run into this weird roadblock. Most enemies I encounter have a shield icon and a level # above their head. But there are these two areas I can't finish. They have enemies not with shields and level #s above their heads but just a red face icon... And they are super strong. What does their icon mean? Am I doing something wrong with these guys?

I found money to be virtually worthless. I completed everything the game has to offer and splashed some cash just twice: once when upgrading a legendary bow to level 40 near the end of the main mission line and again when I had nothing left to do and wanted to upgrade each master skill to level 1 (you can purchase XP tablets from a certain place that unlocks upon completing the campaign).

2) I'm really addicted to clearing out all areas in this game but I've run into this weird roadblock. Most enemies I encounter have a shield icon and a level # above their head. That denotes they're of a much higher level. You're likely to die in no more than a few hits and any damage you do is going to be on the small side. If you open the map screen and zoom out, you'll see the level range of each region.

1) I would reckon that resources is the best use of old gear, at least until your gear is fully upgraded. You should be getting weapons from loot/quest rewards frequently enough that buying isn't necessary.
2) A red, horned helmet is the symbol of the 'phylakes'. These I guess you could think of as roaming zone (mini)bosses. Their levels vary from 20-40, and there is one per zone for several, but not all zones. I wouldn't recommend facing them unless at or above their level (maybe 2 levels below, but more than that will be tough). They show up as their icon on the map, which will also give their name and level. Alternatively, it may just be the icon for 'these enemies are way over your level' (though I think that might be a skull(?)).

Is it normal that dodging is just rolling away from the attack, even if the attack from the opponents flash or should that trigger some animation when I do it at the right time?
That's what I expected but it seems to make no difference if I dodge when the attack flashes or before that.

Money in the game is useless really, only useful for upgrading your legendary gear to your level cap and buying outfits/mounts which are all just cosmetic.

Yep. I basically it has this two purpouses. I'm over 80 hours but i'm looking for money in every angle just to buy all outfits. It's not usesless ins sense of havin too much, but you can do nothing outside of that two activities.

I loved this game. The only thing I wish it did was having the main story missions scale to your level. I would have just liked to run though the story. My time is limited right now. However I can't wait for the next one.

What was the deal with the random Final Fantasy cross-over?

Not that I'm complaining, the sword and shield you get are great, and who hasn't wanted to ride a Chocobo across the Egyptian desert?

Is there a way to tell once you've completed/100%'ed an area of the map?
The game usually notifies you when you've completed everything in an area.

Other than that, just make sure you hit every question mark, and look for the check mark next to the icon on the map to see if you've 100%'d it (if you haven't, it'll usually tell you what you have left to do - treasure left to find, captains and commanders to kill, etc.).

Is the PC version worth getting over the PS4 version? I can snag the PS4 version for $30, while the PC copy will set me back $41.
