I never watched this guy's "_ meets My Little Pony" stuff, but this was recommended on another board, so I decided to check it out. I was surprised that Sailor Moon herself was presented really well, but the jokes come a mile a minute and are consistently super wacky. It makes some sense here with Discord, but still. Also, it's a huge wasted opportunity, by only having Sailor Moon interact with Discord, and never any of the Mane Six. And they were setting up for a "this pony is just like Ami!" from Sailor Moon with a Sailor Mercury gag at the start!

The Discovery Go app got five more EQG CYOA shorts, with four new ones and "Best Trends Forever". I honestly don't know what they're trying to do, given that these were specifically designed to take advantage of YouTube.

People have just now noticed that the Tails of Equestria RPG gives stats to the Mane Six and other characters. Note that the Mane Six are statted as though they were Level 10 characters, and the CMC are Level 1. I don't believe ~~Applejack's high mind score~~ Maud's low body score. Scootaloo having flying but also weak wings is sad.

Oh hey, the Movie songs with visuals are on YouTube now. You know, even though season 7 only had five songs, there were actually a ton of Pony songs this year. So how about we rank them? Song thoughts lightning round: (No ranking because I'm not Watchmojo)

Season 7:
Best Friends: I like it in a so cheesy it's good kind of way. We all know that this is the superior version though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGYRB3N4Yjs
Battle for Sugar Belle: I really like the Feather Bangs parts of the song, Ingram does generic pop music really well. Peter New's singing voice really brings down the Mac singing parts and the song swapping between both of them makes it hard to actually get into the song. I just wish that some of the parts got longer bits.
You're In My Head Like a Catchy Song: Felicia Day does an absolutely fantastic job here and pretty much single-handedly makes the song. It's a good song in its own right but Day takes it to another level. A bit short but it's a pretty catchy song.
Flawless: My pick for the best Season 7 song. Next to the Rainbow Rocks intro I think these are the best visuals for any song the show's had. The message is a bit off from what the actual moral of the episode is but is still pretty good. And I like the music a lot too. Sort of the complete package for me.
Blank Flanks Forever: Really close to a song that I would really like but the lyrics and the awkward video make it really hard to get into it. I want to like this but I don't.

Movie:
Ponies Got the Beat: I never really liked the original. Why does this even exist?
We Got This Together: AKA the cameo song. Of all the songs I feel like this one could reasonably be cut out. Only really exists to introduce each of the Mane 6 and the song is alright but nothing spectacular.
I'm the Friend You Need: The visuals are pretty good here but the actual song is the weakest of the bunch.
Time to Be Awesome: The rough CGI boat is very distracting but the actual 2D stuff looks great. Still love the Rainboom at the end. Song itself is catchy and uplifting. Pretty good overall.
One Small Thing: Super catchy, beautiful visuals. One pretty large thing that I feel goes underappreciated is that it's a major plot moment that really makes the most sense to be done through song. A lot of musicals often have criticisms that the songs are unnecessary but in the story it's supposed to be a big party and it being a song just makes a ton of sense. Unfortunately SOMEBODY had to screw it up Twilight.
Open Up Your Eyes: Definitely up there for top villain songs. The orchestral backing really help it a lot. I'm always a sucker for alternate art styles and the regular stuff looks fantastic too. Emily Blunt does a great job too. Another strong song.
Rainbow: Feels extremely crowbarred into the movie and leaves a bad taste in my mouth because of that. Don't care for the actual song even without that.
Off to See the World: Not poni but I can dig it. Like it a lot more then Rainbow as a standalone song.

Equestria Girls:
It's all trash

Jesus Christ, you lose touch with a show for a couple of months and suddenly half the next season leaks, the show gets renewed, the show gets cancelled and then they plan a new movie to bring the show back again. Didn't expect to be spending the last hour of 2017 trawling through forum posts and discord comments trying to work out what the heck is going on.

Crazy times. Also everyone at Hasbro needs to get off Applejack's case. The more people hate her, the more I like her.

Some people have said you could interpret the song as being directed toward Tempest, and it works in that regard.

I don't think they're really hating Applejack. I don't think most everyone saying she should be removed really hates her. I think it's important to recognize that she's by far the least popular character for a reason, and that if you're doing a reboot that would be a good opportunity to do something about it. If you're trying to do a reboot then "fixing" AJ would be a top priority IMO. If she's too "sacred" or whatever to change then what's the point in even doing a reboot?

I know, I know. The last half of 2017 was nuts for me, first with starting up a medium-distance relationship and then later with buying my first home. You should see my list of completed games for 2017 compared with 2016, it's a freakin' wasteland.

I'm just have a laugh, really. Though it does bug me that Applejack's head is on the chopping block, despite the fact that her only crime is being down-to-earth and dependable.

I think the bigger problem is that she doesn't do a whole lot right, which leads to not many people really caring much about her. I did a Google Trends search for all of the Mane characters (can only do 5 at a time, Rarity is just a bit below Fluttershy overall) and the results are pretty damning I think:

Doing their average rating (the most popular any of the characters were across the entire year is the 100 rating, which was Rainbow Dash right when the movie was released):

Rainbow Dash: 75
Pinkie Pie: 59
Fluttershy: 51
Twilight Sparkle: 46
Rarity: 44
Applejack: 17

Another thing I think is really interesting though is that despite getting the most focus and development of all of the main characters Twilight is 4th overall and is barely above Rarity in terms of popularity. She's also a princess and has the most esteemed Voice Actor. I feel like that might be an indicator that they might have a lower focus on her in the next series because despite all the attention she's getting she doesn't seem to be all that popular.

And I looked up Sunset, she's around the level of Applejack in terms of popularity. Starlight isn't actually a searchable term (the other ones show up as My Little Pony character but she does not) and her popularity is between a half and third of that of Applejack. And both of the major princesses are more popular then AJ/Sunset.

Also I see no one took up my challenge of finding a more adorable Trixie picture. I'll claim victory for now.

Right there at the top under the Equestria Girls section, and I haven't edited that post.

I think "Coinky-Dink Moment" is pretty cute, and notably demonstrates a lot of dance moves that just couldn't be done with ponies. "My Little Shop of Horrors" is charming for Twilight going into Super Disney Princess mode (despite not being the princess version). But yeah, the others aren't that notable, other than "Monday Blues" basically being a SciSet love song.

Anyway, to cover events since the end of season 7:
A new Equestria Girls online series started! Hasbro meant to upload one episode a week on YouTube, but Discovery decided to release them in chunks on their Discovery Go app, including episodes with 2018 copyrights. Discovery used to also put them on their website, but have since taken them down. The episodes are:
Sunset Shimmer's Fine Line - Sunset gets bored waiting in line to buy a game until her friends join her.
School of Rock - They help make Maud's boring rock presentation more exciting.
Queen of Clubs - Applejack and Dash compete to appear in the most club pictures.
Pinkie Sitting - Pinkie babysits a girl by acting out her book.
The Finals Countdown (Song) - SciTwi tutors the other girls for their final exams.
Overpowered - The girls' geode powers go out of control.
Star Crossed - Using Dailymotion because the YouTube upload is distorted for some reason. SciTwi goes on a date with Timber Spruce and thinks she's messing everything up.
A Little Birdie Told Me - From this point on, the YouTube upload hasn't caught up to the Discovery Go upload, so using Dailymotion. Note that you can watch them for free from their app. Trixie accuses Fluttershy of cheating on her math test via birds.
Display of Affection - Rarity is assigned to design the front display of a major store, and panics.
My Little Shop of Horrors (Song) - SciTwi accidentally waters plants with magic water.
Super Squad Goals - The girls use their powers to stop a thief.

And then there are the Choose Your Own Ending shorts. They were made for YouTube, where you'd be able to select a branching path at the end of a main video. But that makes too much sense, so for each short, Discovery uploaded three videos: the main video combined with just one of the endings. I'll be damned if I'm going to link all of those, so I'll just link to this account. Make sure to watch them in upload order, because there is continuity between them. Again, available for free on the Discovery Go app. And according to the leaked emails, these CYOA shorts apparently weren't supposed to start until March, so it looks like Discovery is acting way out of line. Note that Hasbro accidentally uploaded "Best Trends Forever" on YouTube early but then took it down.

Oh right, the leaks. We talk in the thread about them starting from here. An employee at DHX and/or hacker released tons of emails, and then gave everyone free access to DHX's FTP server, with incomplete versions of season 8 episodes. About 7 episodes were uploaded to file sharing sites before access was shut off. Among the leaked emails were the names and descriptions of every season 8 episode, information about upcoming movies and specials, and most importantly, information about FiM ending and G5. We decided not to talk about the contents of the leaked episodes, but the episode synopses are fine behind spoiler tags (but be careful!). G5, however, we've decided to talk about openly. The actual emails and images aren't allowed to be posted in the thread, but we posted them in the Discord chat in the spoiler section.

In short, FiM will end with season 9. G5 will start with a theatrical CGI movie, followed by a 2D animated series. There are two different schedules for that. In the first, the G5 movie comes in fall 2019, meaning very little time to work on it, and it will compete with Frozen 2. Emails show that they're trying to convince Hasbro to go with a second, less stupid plan, where the fall 2019 movie will instead be a 2D theatrical finale for FiM. The G5 movie will fall 2020 instead.

The leaks include a lot of early concept art for G5 and some email conversations. It's still very early, but it does show the general direction they're exploring. G5 will have season long storylines, a good vs. evil story, and what appears to be a high fantasy feel. It seems the idea is that the different pony races live on different worlds, that cross over for the first time. The main characters will still be the Mane Six, but they're exploring changing their races. Concept art shows unicorn Fluttershy and earth pony Twilight, and an email mentions pegasus Pinkie. According to an email from Meghan McCarthy, the former got a good reception, the second lukewarm, and the last negative.

And speaking of Meghan's email, that's where we learned about their interest in changing Applejack for G5. She mentions that no one wants her to be a "hick" again, and she gives various suggestions about what direction they could go in. This includes the idea of making her a villain turned good, like Sunset Shimmer.

In PonyEra specific news, we've started having an episode stream every Sunday at 12 PM PT (though it's mainly just been me, Sylvee, and Trig), and I've been holding RP events in the chat every Saturday at 2 PM PT. Each is mostly standalone, so feel free to jump in.

Finished reading the SciSet fanfic Fractured Sunlight by Oroboro yesterday. The story was started before Friendship Games, and is about a SciTwi who was close childhood friends with Dougworld Sunset, but lost her on a hiking trip. She blames herself for it, and has suffered massive mental trauma. And then she runs into the Sunset we know.

The premise is a good one, and it's explored well enough at the start. There are some odd moments like the ease with which people accept the interdimensional travel part; SciTwi is stubborn about it, but everyone else basically goes, "Well, stuff happens," and they don't delve too much more into it. It was interesting seeing such a broken Twilight, and how she bonded with the other characters. Well, mainly just Sunset, Rainbow, and Rarity I guess. She slowly eases herself into seeing Sunset as her own person, and opens up to the other girls, as she continues scientifically analyzing them.

And then she decides she wants to fuck Sunset hard. Well, it doesn't quite go like that. First she suddenly realizes Sunset is beautiful. Then a couple chapters later, she's with Sunset in her bedroom (via the other girls "coincidentally" not being able to make it to a meet up) and they kiss and decide to start dating. They're constantly lovey-dovey after that. Then a couple chapter later they're making love. There are a few references to it, but the central premise of the story is largely left behind at this point, and instead we watch their relationship grow during Spring Break. This is pretty standard stuff, and not that interesting. I did find the part where Sunset doesn't find human Twilight particularly attractive, and SciTwi the same with pony Sunset, interesting. It's funny how such a bizarre situation is endemic to the set up Equestria Girls had from the very first movie, with Flash Sentry only showing attraction toward unicorns transformed into girls.

Before this point, the story also emphasized SciTwi's relationship with Rainbow Dash a lot, with her being the one character who actually views her as her own person and not Princess Twilight, and thus realizes she's "kind of a bitch". They get along later, and then this relationship is largely left in the background and doesn't become relevant to the larger story.

The prologue included Dougworld Sunset's father, so I figured he'd play a role in the story, but nope, during the scene where they visit Dougworld Sunset's grave, it's also revealed that her father killed himself. While tragic, this also makes things easy by not having to deal with Dougworld Sunset's family.

Though Sunset mostly wasn't that interesting on her own, I did like how the story explored her temper and tendency to take advantage of peoples' weaknesses. Her hesitation about meeting Celestia again felt real in light of this, and I liked the idea that because she expected to return to Equestria any day now, she didn't put any effort into her school work or figuring out a future as a human.

On a side note, I didn't like the cliffhangers. A chapter would end with a single sentence of police being called to a motorcycle crash, and then there would be an author's note where he congratulates himself for being evil. There's no build up to it, and no reaction from the characters until the next chapter. I suppose the issue is that you need to give the reader time to process what's actually happening while reading it, and it's important to know how the characters feel about it to really connect. As is, they just get stapled onto the end of an unrelated section of the chapter.

The story got interesting again when Sunset decides to take SciTwi to Equestria. It still doesn't strongly connect to the starting premise, but it was neat, and given "Mirror Magic", probably more than what the show will do if it ever gets around to it. I especially liked Sunset learning her former classmates didn't resent her, and are willing to be friends with her now. I suppose my interest in this section is largely based on the fact that I haven't read any other fics that have done this, though, since I imagine tons of other stories have explored this same scenario and probably better. I was annoyed that the story jumped over large chunks of this, but I suppose doing that would distract even more from the main premise.

In the last few chapters, the premise comes back, as SciTwi learns about Sunset's desires to return to Equestria, and during their fight about it, Sunset snaps back that SciTwi is applying the life she imagined for human Sunset to their relationship. After a magic induced drug trip where SciTwi sees human Sunset's ghost, and a Celestia-Luna dream conversation between Twilight and Sunset in both of their true forms, they let go of the past and compromise. Sunset will at least stay in the human world for college, and they can figure things out from there. Perhaps a bit too simple, but it was a good resolution.

However, throughout the story, they've mentioned SciTwi's scientific studies a lot, and how she managed to extract the essence of magic from the girls. They talk about if she really wants to go through with publishing her research, and that it and the magical essence could be dangerous. But then after she downs the essence for her drug trip, they don't mention any of this again. The danger of the scientific research is completely irrelevant. It was strange that they abandoned this plot thread.

Overall, the story is interesting at the start, gets dull in the middle when it turns into a pure romance, then gets interesting again toward the end, but not really in the same way as the start.

I also read An Old Fool by Monochromatic. Unusually for her, not only is this not a RariTwi story, but it doesn't even include any of the Mane Six! Instead, it's a short story about Starswirl adjusting to changes in the thousand years he's been gone, as he visits Canterlot Castle for Hearth's Warming. I'd love to see an extended exploration of Starwirl by Mono addressing the ideas brought up here, but as is, it just scratches the surface and doesn't do too much with it, unfortunately. Still, it's a short and decent read.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with your criticisms on Fractured Sunlight, Sigma. I'm a fan of the fic, but its best part is definitely the opening section of the story.

boy that sounds like a really interesting premise I hope it's a serious examination of the psychological implications of parallel universes and doesn't devolve into the world's most generic amateur hour shipfic a third of the way through

By the way, since you mentioned you caught up to The Enchanted Kingdom in the chat, here were my thoughts on the newest two chapters.

Not exactly a happy set of chapters. The first is a flashback to Spike and Cadance getting into an argument about how they're handling the search for Twilight and the others, and the second features Twilight having panic attacks about going through a changed Canterlot and talking to Cadance.

I hadn't really thought about just how frustrating the situation Spike and Cadance found themselves in was. As time passes, people are forgetting what the other princesses look like and even their names, but they can't actually tell people about them because that would curse them with being unable to ever find them. I had forgotten about the red herring earlier in The Enchanted Library about a changeling having replaced Princess Denza. That was actually the case, but it was because Cadance is a ghost and they're acting on her behalf, not anything sinister.

It's kind of weird seeing Spike be so mistrustful of changelings, given Thorax in the show, but that does lead me to think about the frequent use of OCs in this story instead of show characters. If Thorax appeared, the audience would be taken out of the world of the story and go, "Oh, so now this this and this will happen!" A show character introduced after the start carries expectations about how they will be handled, while an original character won't impact the reader in the same way.

Gotta love Mono rubbing things in by having Cadance choose to meet with a pony in person for the first time in a while, and it turns out to be that relative of Applejack who found Twilight, thus giving him the curse.

In chapter 4, while reading it, I did think it overplayed Twilight's nerves a bit, with every step through Canterlot being a herculean effort, but I suppose it does make sense in this context. It's her old home, but every pony she knew there is dead, except for someone who's there because of a lie she was the center of, told because of a mistake she made. It's sad seeing Twilight in this state, having to rely so much emotionally on Rarity and Spike.

Still, there were cute moments, including Twilight getting angry at Spike for swearing, and Rarity joking about Twilight kissing Cadance.

Oh, and the part at the beginning of the chapter! So Discord is meeting with Rarity while she's hiding from Twilight, asking her if she changed her mind about something. I suspected before that Rarity has a curse that teleports her around if anyone affiliated with Twilight finds her, and this seems to support it. Definitely curious about what this all means.

I was hoping for a happier reunion, but the chapter ends with them just starting to talk, so hopefully next chapter we get Cadance going, "So anyway, how's your sex life?" like I wanted.

I should probably mention that I haven't gotten around to watching the new EQG shorts. They aren't being discussed in any place I care about, and the images for it on Derpibooru aren't that interesting, so I'm perfectly content waiting. Plus, I'm kind of burned out on EQG shorts.

Just compare how much attention these are getting to the Summertime Shorts. Those were given time to breathe, and thus, a few of them at least got a decent amount of fan art. This just goes to show the weakness of these being released in chunks.

Silver Quill's new review of Friends Forever #16 (Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon) reminded me that I was planning on rereading the comics during the break between seasons 7 and 8. I don't think that's going to happen at this point. That said, this is a cute issue with great art. I was wondering throughout the review why the artist, Jenn Blake, didn't draw any other issues, and then the article reminded me that she has brain cancer. Her initial treatments were funded, but she's still collecting money for follow-ups.

This PMV for Doki Doki Literature Club's ending credits kind of sort of but not really but kind of works, swapping the girls with Big Mac's fan love interests. Note that while it doesn't directly spoil the game, it hints pretty strongly at things.

Part of that is the medium it's being distributed and more importantly the big thing is that EQD isn't linking uploads of it. And yeah there being so much content at once is not helping things either.

I find it really funny that during the hiatus is when we're getting burned out of show content.

Yeah, I was happy the actually bad images didn't appear. When that guy said "can you explain this?" and the image was taking a second to load, I thought for sure the Lyra plushie was coming.

Glad mods closed things way sooner than they would have on GAF, but it was still kind of a shock to see people come out of the woodwork like that. It was worse than the last thread like this on GAF.

For future reference, the thread we're talking about.

I really figured after all this time and on a new place there wouldn't be anymore of the "Pony Cooties" attitude as I like to call it where people just bash it for being sick and disgusting and get REALLY mad when there's harmless crossovers with stuff they really do like because it's tainted and ruined. The one MM EXE fan I kept thinking was maybe just playing the hateful troll for kicks (he even joked about how bitter he was a fan being neglected by Capcom), but I was starting to think he REALLY was losing his cool over a harmless little piece of crossover fanart.

MLP:FiM got an official Japanese dub for the first two seasons, but stopped after that point. Oddly, every Equestria Girls film, TV special, and now the web series has gotten a Japanese dub. If you're interested, one person did subs of the Japanese dub episodes: search for Chocoreichan on Dailymotion. It's actually pretty interesting, and there are some headscratching changes. For example, they cut time out of each episode in order to include... well, you'll see at the end of any episode you watch, before the credits.

One thing to consider is that GAF went through a lot of effort to weed out the GamerGators and such. When ResetEra opened up, everyone was allowed in, including all those guys.

At the very least, the mods are handling this better. On GAF, that thread would have been open for days before a mod would finally decide to step in.

Thanks, looks like it also has the raws, that I will prefer as the idea is more about watching something lighthearted while trying to catch up some Japanese if I'm lucky

I can see that yeah. My big thing is that I usually put a lot of effort into my posts because I don't want to feel like I'm just reiterating something that a bunch of other people have already said. Also from my experience a lot of people typically go for the low hanging fruit when it comes to having debates online. My posts usually get overlooked I feel because people want to go after the ones that are generally poorly constructed and have a lot more things you can attack in them, although that could just be my brief experience on 4chan speaking. Communities are typically more tight-knit and as a whole I get a lot more people actually responding to my posts in those settings then a more free discussion area.

Given his viewpoints expressed in other threads I think it's worth pointing out that not every person that talks like that on the internet is also a Gamergater or a member of the Alt-Right. It would be pretty weird if Alt-righters were trying to disparage us by saying that we're members of the Alt-Right.

Checked the thread myself. WTF? It's enough people are still bothered over adults watching a show, but to see them generalize us part of the Alt-Right? I have no idea where people got such a ridiculous idea. It's stuff like this (particularly the guy with the MegaMan.Exe avatar) that makes me hate when people try to evoke thegirl show ghetto!

Just watched that last one myself now. Maud's Japanese voice isn't boring enough. And it's weird that Pinkie keeps addressing her own sister as "Maud Pie".

I was perhaps being too general with "Gamergators", but it's still the case that a lot of people who were banned for good reasons were allowed to come into ResetEra.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the idea that folks won over by Friendship is Magic will want to watch older stuff... or will even follow the franchise into G5 as if they were Doctor Who fans enthusiastic about a reboot. I'm expecting the show to turn back into a pumpkin with G5 and for Hasbro to simply have a show geared solely towards young girls again. Season-long narrative arcs or not, Hasbro franchises (i.e. Transformers) haven't exactly transitioned well.

You can anticipate Rarity day to happening in February. I might want to use that so we have a chance to compete with the Super Bowl for ratings...

I don't know about other people, but we watch G3 for the memes. Last week, we basically started spamming G4 Rarity images when Rainbow Dash said "darling" so that gives you an idea of how we enjoy those episodes.

As for moving on, it probably won't feel as inspired as G4, but I don't think G5 will be an outright regression. If it looked like it was falling back into a "little girls' show" dumpster fire, I think someone in charge would say we gotta try harder.

Their mission statement is basically for them to go in the opposite direction of a purely for little girls show. I feel like the show's lore and setup had a lot of potential to have stories that appealed to all ages and these days you can see that's what they're going for but I can imagine that for a lot of people the first season and the intro it's a massive turn-off. I think there's a lot to be gained with a reboot which I've talked about a lot already but the big things are that t allows them to regress the character development that has happened so they can have more fitting arcs and have a more uniform vision for the show going forward. The team working on it seems to be the same crew that have been working on the recent seasons of the show so i don't think there's anything that would indicate that it would be a massive dip in quality. And I don't really get the point of doing a reboot with the intent of shrinking the show's demographic size.

Shrinking one's target demographic would never be the objective, clearly. Just as it wasn't when they rebooted Beast Wars into Beast Machines. Just theorizing that could be the undesired outcome unless they're able to execute on their vision for G5 without alienating their established audience. That's easier said than done.

I agree that the lore they've established has all the potential in the world but this is the "same crew" that has largely flubbed most if not all of their ambitious story arcs outside of Season 5 due to serious pacing issues where everything magically solves itself in an unearned fashion in the closing moments of a season finale or movie. The strengths of Friendship is Magic have lied predominantly with strong characterizations and interactions showcased most often within slice of life episodic moments occasionally accompanied by some memorable music and songs. Resetting all of that character development to develop it organically within arcs where there will be payoffs sounds great on paper but I'd prefer to either see a different crew tasked with that effort or to see this crew pull it off within the confines of a G4 season before I feel especially confident with what they're aiming for.

If anything it sounds too ambitious... and shrinking a show's demographic is almost inevitable when you have a reboot with a serialized storyline where viewers young and old alike can feel lost if they've missed an episode and can't marathon a whole season in one go on a streaming service like Netflix. I think the loose continuity of Friendship is Magic went a long way towards winning people over in its early seasons when folks could see a pony meme or two on social media, wonder what all the fuss was about, tune in to a random episode and not feel overwhelmed or confused regardless of when they tuned in.

I think G3 is fun for MST3K style viewings. That said, I do think there's more worthwhile in G3 than people like to give it credit for. There are some fun moments, and some songs are alright. That still just means it's at the level where it's good for riffing, though; truly terrible things aren't good for that. The G3 shorts I asked Trig to include were the first three, since last week I suggested doing a "start" stream for the starts of the different MLP series. The first short for G3, and the second and third for G5, since it presents a concept being explored for G5, with the pony races being separated and meeting. In a dumb way.

About Beast Wars -> Machines, remember that first of all, Transformers -> Beast Wars worked. And Beast Machines was a result of a completely different show crew taking over (without even having much knowledge of Beast Wars).

It does seem like a big part of why the attempts at story arcs in FiM didn't work that well is precisely because the episodes had to all be standalone. This is most clearly seen with the key arc in season 4. It's possible that without the restriction, the story arcs will work better. Or not. Hard to say right now. I think they're well aware that the strength of the series lies with the characters. I don't think continuity will be strong enough to make it impossible to start watching in the middle of a season. I expect a level of continuity similar to Gravity Falls at most, and in any case, with Netflix and such, I imagine most people will start from the beginning regardless.

On another note, we had another RP event today, continuing the Tangerine World story.
RP 6 - Tangerine World 3 - Hugs and Highwaymares

Summary
Twilight and Spike accompany Rarity on her dress delivery, on the road from Ponyville to Fillydelphia, when they suddenly find themselves back in Tangerine World. They are greeted by Clementine and Kumquat Salad, the orange farmer children they helped in the first Tangerine World story. Their parents thought they did a good job with the kangaroos, so they were allowed to make an orange delivery on their own, and Clementine decided to take a shortcut filled with highwaymares, thieves of the road. She heard that the legendary thief Cuddlestrike is there, and she wants to meet her, ignoring the fact that she'll steal from her.

The ponies encounter two highwaystallions, who they fight and manage to fend off. Then, to their surprise, Fluttershy comes to check how they're doing. Fluttershy is friendly, but doesn't recognize them, so the ponies realize she's the Fluttershy native to Tangerine World. They are suspicious, and soon notice that their carts are now empty. When she offers to give them a hug, they realize that she is Cuddlestrike and confront her with that. Twilight and Rarity attempt to use magic against her, but woodpeckers peck their horns and stop them. In response, Fluttershy summons a swarm of squirrels and mice. While Twilight and Rarity are distracted, Fluttershy has Rachel the kangaroo swipe Spike, and Fluttershy and the other animals leave. Fluttershy thought Spike was adorable and wanted to keep him.

They follow after them, using a trail of burned leaves left behind by Spike. Thanks to Spike, they find birdseed and a sleeping potion that Fluttershy was carrying. They come to a clearing where Fluttershy is loading her stolen goods onto a cloud, with help from a large flying hippo creature, a phelddagrif. Though this didn't come up during the RP, the plan was for them to use the cloud to carry everything to their base. There were also several squirrels, bunnies, birds, and bees. Rarity tossed the birdseed onto Fluttershy, causing the birds to start pecking her, and Twilight disperses the cloud and puts the phelddagrif to sleep with the sleeping potion. Rachel the kangaroo steps in and expresses confusion about why Fluttershy is fighting with her friends; the kangaroo encountered normal Fluttershy in the first story and thinks this Fluttershy is the same one.

With the tension reduced, everyone is able to calmly talk to Fluttershy. They are surrounded by animals, but Fluttershy decides to have Angel the bunny get them to stand down. Fluttershy decides to return the oranges and dresses, having no desire to fight so hard for them, and not wanting to hurt anyone. She explains that she gives hugs to her victims because hugs are nice, nothing more. She doesn't have to rob anyone, and just does it for the rush.

Suddenly, the ground shakes and the trees start changing. The Everfree Forest has surged forward, taking control of more territory. Angel has disappeared and Fluttershy rushes into the dangerous new area. Clementine and Kumquat head back to their cart, the animals returning their food and leading the way back. Twilight, Rarity, and Spike decide to follow after Fluttershy, both to help her and to figure out just what's going on with the Everfree Forest.

The story will continue next week. The set up will allow the characters to be swapped out as desired. Also not mentioned in the story proper is that Spike has a journal similar to Sunset's, which Twilight will be able to use to keep in contact across dimensions.

Setting
More mentions are made of Princess Moon, and it's implied that she is, indeed, an alicorn. There is some celebration of the Moon Dynasty soon after Hearth's Warming, and it involves oranges for whatever reason.

The road to Fillydelphia is more heavily forested and is preyed upon by highwaymares. And highwaystallions. Just now, the Everfree Forest has surged forward to approach it, but it's still some distance away.

Characters
Returning:
* Clementine - The only child of two orange farmers, Clementine is an outgoing, confrontational, and proud earth pony filly. She is orange with a green mane. In addition to her parents, she lives with her aunt, uncle, and cousin. She's keen on business, and tries to market complicated dishes that cover up the original orange flavor to ponies. Her goal is to run the farm one day. When the heroes encountered her now, she and her cousin were allowed to make an orange delivery to Fillydelpha, but she decided to take a shorter route filled with thieves. Her goal was to either get there quickly or run into the legendary thief Cuddlestrike. Even with the delay getting her oranges back, she managed to do both, so mission accomplished!
Likes: Oranges, getting her way, innovating, Cuddlestrike (maybe Fluttershy now too?)
Hates: Persimmons, keeping things the same for no reason
Cutie Mark: Half-peeled orange cutie mark with bits

* Kumquat Salad - Clementine's cousin, and also an only child, Kumquat is a shy and cautious earth pony colt who tends to just follow his cousin's lead, but nonetheless sometimes mouths off to her. He is orange (different shade) with a gray mane. He's easy going, and in his cooking, prefers to keep things simple and let the ingredients speak for themselves. He hasn't decided what he wants to do yet, and thus is a blank flank. Encountered alongside Clementine.
Likes: Oranges, salads, keeping things safe and predictable
Hates: Changing things for no reason, having to take lead
Cutie Mark: None

* Rachel - A kangaroo carrying a joey in her pouch. I forgot to mention it, but it's still there. She seems nice enough. After meeting Fluttershy during the first story, she ran into Cuddlestrike Fluttershy. That Fluttershy decided to take care of her, and she is now part of her gang of thieves. Unclear if she understands what's going on.

New:
* Dirt Road - A unicorn highwaymare---er, highwaystallion. He is brown with yellow hair, and wears an eyepatch even though he doesn't need one. He has a pirate gimmick, and uses magic to manipulate ropes. Carries a plastic knife to be threatening. Rocky Road is his brother. They came to stake out the road after hearing Cuddlestrike was there, and thought they could get some high value targets before her. After running away from the heroes, he was tied to a tree and robbed by woodland creatures on Fluttershy's orders.

Cutie Mark: Coiled rope

* Rocky Road - An earth pony thief. He is whitish with black spots and brown hair, and wears a pirate hat. He's fairly agile and has a pirate gimmick. Carries a plastic knife to be threatening. Dirt Road is his brother. Left on the side of the road, where he was robbed by squirrels.
Likes: Pirates
Cutie Mark: Knotted rope

* Fluttershy / Cuddlestrike - The Fluttershy native to Tangerine World. Similar in a lot of ways, but she's a famous thrill-seeking thief and also quite flirty. She commands woodland creatures to steal goods without ponies noticing, and likes to leave her victims with a hug, because hugs are nice. Her victims often become smitten with her. Fluttershy has a day job, but steals for fun, which she justifies as helping her animal friends, many of whom had run away from the Everfree Forest. She usually wears a mask, but in her "innocent bystander" routine, she doesn't use it. This backfired due to the heroes knowing her. When exposed, she prefers to distract everyone long enough to get away, and doesn't want to actually fight. When cornered, she's more willing to use force than our Fluttershy, which would have happened if the heroes turned down her compromise. Currently rushing headlong into the Everfree Forest to find Angel the bunny.
Likes: Animals, stealing, flirting
Dislikes: Being told not to steal, interacting with ponies in a way not on her terms (unexpectedly talking to ponies can make her shy), animals in trouble
Cutie Mark: Three butterflies

* Richard the phelddagrif- A male flying hippo, who was helping Fluttershy load stolen goods onto a cloud, and would have pushed the cloud to their base. Phelddagrifs are unusual creatures that like to help the things they are fighting, and are capable of using magic.

* Angel the bunny - Still Fluttershy's favorite animal companion, and largely the same. Currently lost in the Everfree Forest.

The Twilight vs Tempest toy I feel is a must have for fans.

Its huge, really detailed and very well made. Extremely dynamic posing. I love DBZ so I might be biased but I love this toy. The translucent energy blasts look so cool. Twilights wings spread out fully looks awesome. Hasbro really delivered for the older fans or even young ones looking for a collectable over a toy. Thanks Hasbro for making stuff like this instead of just pushing out the brushables non stop.

Id say this is a must buy item.

I really appreciate how Hasbro decided to make these Fan Series figurines. I don't have any non-book merchandise at all, but if I did get any, it would be this. And a cute plushie.
